CanadaTransfer from Montreal to Vancouver?
Ok, thank you! Yeah, I'm definitely feeling the same way... but I do think it's too late to fire her. We paid $500 for this:

Kinda depressing.

CanadaTransfer from Montreal to Vancouver?
Thank you so much!! I will be emailing my atty to find out what she will do to fix this... I hope that our case will automatically go to Vancouver, even if I wrote Montreal on our petition...

CanadaTransfer from Montreal to Vancouver?
I believe that she knows a lot about US immigration... before I hired her, I asked for the emails of her previous clients, and I got nothing but awesome reviews of her. If I were to do this over, I wouldnt have hired an attorney, but there is not much we can do now... I just hope she doesn't slow us down...

Can I call the CSC and ask them?

CanadaTransfer from Montreal to Vancouver?
My fiancé lives in Vancouver, but our attorney told us that we should send our petition to Montreal. Will my fiancé have to fly to Montreal for his interview? We really cannot afford this...

Our petition is at the California Service Center, so what would it take to get it changed to Vancouver?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

CanadaHint of advice before you move about TB testing
QUOTE (PfcsBaby @ May 29 2008, 11:50 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Well I just got back from taking my 4 year old son for his return visit from seeing the civil surgeon. I had to get him a TB skin test done in order to get his AOS case finished. As of April 1st, 2008 all children from age 2 and up are required to have the TB test done. Would have been nice to know this earlier. Anyways, we ended up paying $250 for the test. I couldn't believe how much it was for something so simple. I'm not sure if thats the going rate here, but if you can get the test done for your children before you move to the USA from Canada and they haven't had the test done yet, I highly reccomend you doing so. If I could of had the test done back in Canada, my doctor wouldn't have charged me anything. I just wanted to give a heads up to those with small kids.

Mary

That is ridiculous!! I went to the health dept in my home town (not using insurance or anything) and paid $10 for a TB test...

I don't know what magic that doctor did...

CanadaMigrating to a Mac?
I have a MacBook and my fiancé has a MacBook Pro. We both love ours. He is an apple certified technician, and has always been Mac, but I switched from PC a little over a year ago, and would never go back!

Depending on what you use the computer for... I think a MacBook is good for most users, unless you are going to use your computer for work- then go for a MacBook Pro!

CanadaG-325A
Yes, print all four copies. Each copy goes to a different location. In the bottom left hand corner, the pages are numbered so they know which goes where.

QUOTE (minnew @ Nov 19 2008, 10:23 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hey everyone! I am working on getting my G-325A form completed and it took me over an hour just to complete it. Due to college, spending some summers in Canada, I have had many addresses and employers in the past 5 years. I did one supplemental sheet for employers and one for addresses as there was not enough room on the G-325A. My question is, the G-325A duplicates itself four times, do I have to print off and sign 4 duplicate sheets for each category? It sounds like the common sense thing to do, but I am just looking to see what others have done or would do in my situtation as the instructions do not state. Thanks guys!

CanadaNot Eligible for EI
My husband has applied for EI, and just got a call today from someone. She stated that he was not eligible for work until he recieves his EAD. Is this true? I remember people talking about recieving EI without their EAD. What do we have to do to get around this and get approved?

CanadaHow do you call your Canadian?
I have a question... I use Skype to call my fiance in Canada, but I want to find some way to have unlimited minutes to call him on my cell phone.

I have Cintular, and I'm willing to pay a monthly fee.. but I don't know if this is possible. I don't want to pay the 19 cents a minute bull-sh*t.

Does anyone have this with their cell phone provider?

Thank you

CanadaWorking for Canadian Company
QUOTE (Krikit @ Sep 18 2008, 10:23 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I did it, and so did a lot of others. It's not illegal. Though you'll find many on VJ who will argue the point. Some feel they are experts in things which they have no expertise or background in. Suffice it to say they are wrong and don't even bother arguing the point.

The EAD only authorizes work for an American employer. The US has no jurisdiction for authorizing employment for a Canadian-based company. Just make sure the Canadian company knows he's a non-resident so he gets taxed appropriately, then claim that income in both your US and Canadian tax return. Easy peasy.

Thank you Krikit. That is what I understood. I'm glad someone knows what they are talking about good.gif

QUOTE (fwaguy @ Sep 18 2008, 09:48 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Is the or could the Canadian company also be considered a US employer? Do they have US based operations and regular US based employees?

No. They do not have US based operations, they are only Canadian.

I do not understand why this would be a problem, because he is working for a CANADIAN company, not an American company....

CanadaWorking for Canadian Company
My fiancé's company (that he works for currently) wants him to work remotely (through his computer) when he moves to the U.S.

Is this legal? He would still claim taxes, but just be doing basically the same job, but in the states.

yep, I'm with you on that... if it had no impact on anyone else, then I would say go ahead and call your congressman as soon as you want... but as it probably does, even in the relatively minor way that Brian describes above, then I think waiting is the only right way to go about things

The part responsible for things taking impact on others or not, is not the petitioner asking for better service. It could never be! but the government dept. responsible for such job.

QUOTE (StillThePrettiest @ Dec 22 2007, 05:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
and as for 'accepting things like a mule' - how broadly can this be applied? would you say that illegal immigrants are simply those who have decided not to 'accept everything like a mule' and are just taking action to improve their life? they may well be, but that doesn't make it right either
(and no, I'm not saying the two things are equal, just using an example that we'll all identify with wink.gif )

Me as a person who believe and trying to do things legally, do not believe and do not support illegals or their ideals.
So NO IT CAN NOT APPLIED that broadly. ever.
Since like you said the two things are not equal, it can't even be compared.... someone asking for a legal service and fighting for better service to an illegal. It doesn't even make sense to me.

I believe that someone should have to pass a 4th grade language exam before they immigrate to the U.S. But that obviously didn't stop you.

You cannot force your beliefs on someone else. Moosestang did the right thing, CONGRATULATIONS! good.gif

These people are not illegal immigrants... they are doing things the LEGAL way, and should be treated as so.

Moosestang should not be given ####### because he found a way for his application to be processed.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWork on K1 Visa?
So I am new to the forum... have been doing a LOT of online research, but have a few questions:

-When my fiance's K1 is approved, and he goes to the POE, will he be given an EAD? I have heard both yes and no, and am confused.

-He lives in Vancouver BC, but we have been told that the only consulate that deals with K1 visas in in Montreal, QC. Does this mean he will have to fly to go to his interview? wacko.gif

Basically, I am going to school, so for him to move to the U.S... and not be able to work is not really possible. I do not understand why everything has to be so difficult, and why they allow you to immigrate, but won't allow you to be an active member of society!? helpsmilie.gif

Thanks in advance!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSetting a marriage date whilst waiting for the visa
QUOTE (davidr1534 @ Jan 23 2008, 06:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi folks,
I hope that everyone is having a good (and not too frustrating) visa experience. I was hoping for some guidance, wisdom and experience. Myself and my fiancee are planning on sending off the I-129F and all the supporting stuff by the end of January. We want to set the date of our marriage before we get approved, so family and friends can book the time off work and get flights. We are thinking of November, but do people think this is too risky in terms of getting the visa by then? 6-8 months is the timeframe I have heard, which would take us up to the end of September for getting the visa. Just to fill people in on the situation, I am British, and there are no obvious difficulties (no divorces or the like) but as we have not used a lawyer there is always the possibility we have missed something somewhere! All advice appreciated.
Thanks, David

We have set a wedding date (August 2nd, 2008), but if his visa has not come through by that time, we will just have the ceremony, and technically get married at a courthouse later. My immediate family will know what is going on, but the majority of the guests will think that we are really getting married. That way, we can have the wedding day, and still be able to have time to plan ahead!

This is the best solution that we have found to this dilemma.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresmy fiance was laid off :C visits help! whats in the border computer?
My fiancé who is Canadian came to visit a couple of weeks ago, and was stopped at the border. He told the border guard that he was going to visit his girlfriend, but when the border guard checked his trunk and found some of our wedding invitations, he was told to go inside. He said it seemed like they knew that he was in the process of a K1 visa, but just wanted to make sure that he had no intentions to immigrate early. The border guards seemed happy that he was doing it the 'legal' way, and sent him on his way.

Basically, I would just assume that they know everything, and have your fiancé bring any and all evidence he can to the border to prove that he has no intention of immigrating.
