Eek! Yeah just for myself, with no medical issues I pay $200/mo, so I just have a nightmare scenario playing around in my head for once I add him on. I've already double checked about the pre-existing condition. What is ironic is that because I hadn't had insurance for a while, I have to wait a year for any preexisting conditions to be covered, yet he will be covered immediately Luckily, if nothing else, he's not pregnant :P

When you're saying you have "private" insurance, do you mean individual or group policy? If former, please tell us the name of such a generous insurance company who would cover a diabetic spouse? Did you tell them he had diabetes and they gave you a quote?? Many insurers just won't issue the policy to a person with diabetes - 'deemed uninsurable".

As to the covering supplies - you need to carefully check your policy "Exclusion & limitation" section, as well as "DME annual limits" ( pump supplies might be treated either as DME, or as regular drugs; insulin almost always is treated like a usual brand name drug ), Also, it's necessary to know what state you are from - some states mandate certain level of coverage for diabetics.

I sincerely feel for you guys. Hopefully, you know what you're doing...

CanadaBaby Dilemma

If the baby is born in Canada, you will need to add 1 person to the I-134 and make enough for 3 people.
Then you need to file CRBA and have an interview for the CRBA to get the babys US citizenship and a US passport.

Heres the link so you can read up on CRBA as a " just in case " http://canada.usemba...rth-abroad.html

The link is for the child born in wedlock. The OP is technically not in wedlock.

So, this link is more appropriate - http://travel.state....nship_5199.html , look for "Birth Abroad Out-of-Wedlock to a U.S. Citizen Father – “New” Section 309(a)"

Canada? re: passport as evidence, but need to renew

do I need the old one for evidence at the interview? We included photo copies of all the pages with the petition. Would these still work at interview (with new copies of recent stamps) Or do I need the old passport in hand.

Quite unlikely the consular officer will be interested in your old passport.

Canadai-130 Canadian Question

Filling out the i-130 with my husband and when filling in the State/Country is writing in "ON, CANADA " or should we print it out and write in "ONTARIO, CANADA " in by hand?

Also, I have to renew my passport fairly soon but we want to get the i-130 out as soon as possible. If we put in my current passport information, will our application be impacted if I get a new passport number when I renew or are we able to adjust this at any point in time?

Thanks!

1. Either way works.

2. There is no impact.

CanadaUS taxes on Canadian EI: can it be included into 2555 exclusion?
Greetings,

I moved to the US last year and had both earned income from Canadian job for the first 8 months, earned income from US job for December and Canadian EI in between ( when I already was a US resident ).

It’s clear that I can exclude earned Canadian income using form 2555, but how I should report my Canadian EI ( what form/line? ) on my US return? I assume since Canada already taxed this income at 25% non-resident rate, I should report this income to IRS but shouldn’t owe any tax on it.

Thanks.

CanadaCanadian Police Certificate
I have an I-130 pending, as does my 2 year old daughter. Is there an age minimum that USCIS will require a police certificate? I know it's an odd question, but I am getting all my papers in order so that I am prepped once our i-130s are approved.

CanadaQuestion about going to America while i-130 is in processing
Like said before, entry into the US is not an issue as long as you can show proof that you do not intend to live there. The I-130 in theory shows your desire to live, not visit, so you might have some real explaining to do.

Personally, I have been across the border twice since starting the process and both times was held up for a few mins having to explain my reasoning for heading over. One of the officers even stamped a 30 day stay limit on my passport, and cautioned me to be back within the 30 day window.

It's a ####### shoot..:but then again, so is everything else in life. :)

Poprocks and sapphiredreams, thank you guys for putting my mind to ease good.gif He just visited last week and it is getting harder and harder to see him go....so was really scared that I did anything to make the process any longer than it is!

And you are so right Hugglebuggles, it seems that all the people that have filed back in Jan. and Feb. have gotten their interview date much quicker than anyone else that filed before and after that.....as for me, I really have to say that we weren't lucky to have to file our I-129 at California, it's the slowest of them all!! Was warned that it can take up to 8 months and it certainly did take that long mad.gif But glad to see that we are all at the final stretch, just have to hang in there somehow...

Does anyone know if the interview date is determined base on what you have put down for expected travel date on DS160? Because I think I made a booboo crying.gif We are applying for K1 visa and waiting for interview from Montreal since April 27, 2009, I know the average waiting time is about 2.5-4 months at the moment...but but but I have put down December as my expected time of travel! I did that so that I can have a few months making concrete plans for moving and wedding. So my question is that does that mean they will more likely to give me an interview date at later date like October?? I start to worry now because I have noticed a few people have put down a request for an interview date that would suit their travel plan and are getting it.....Please share what you have put down for your expected date of travel and when was your interview date to see if it does make a difference...am really kicking myself now crying.gif

CanadaHotel Reviews Montreal
I just came back from staying at Hotel le Dauphne and can highly recommend the place. I paid $132/night. The Consulate is a 5-minute walk, Metro station Victoria Square 5 minutes and Old Montreal 10 minutes. The room was very spacious and clean, there was a computer in the room with free Internet access, flat screen TV with DVD player, free bottled water and included breakfast. It was a simple spread which included Montreal bagels (Fairmont), toast, three types of breakfast cereal, yogurt, boiled eggs, baked beans, apples, bananas, juice, coffee and tea. The bathroom is modern with a great shower. What more can you ask for! As a solo female traveller, I felt very safe there. To access your floor, you have to insert your key card in the elevator. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

CanadaDHL Registry Nr

You need the confirmation page with your DHL location and reference number for your interview. If not, you're not allowed inside.

This isn't given with the interview letter. You have to sign up yourself on the CSC website. Follow the instructions here: http://usvisa-info.c...ier_information (click the fourth option).

Thanks Saylin. Here's what I have on my CSC appointment confirmation printout " You have successfully scheduled an appointment bla bla bla...and then

in the 1st section - Appointment information - there's a Confirmation Nr : Can Mo 06 03 13 08 00 XXXXXXXXX
in the 2nd section - Applicant Details - my name and then Reference ID:XXXXXXXX
in the 4th section - Loomis Information - Loomis Branch : Burlington

As you said (click the 4th option) Register for Courier services - when I clicked there it changed to "cancel appointment" which scared the #$%& out of me.

CanadaDHL Registry Nr
Can anyone clarify about DHL Registry nr. Are you supposed to have this number before you go for your Interview or is this number assigned by consulate/DHL automatically after your interview to send your passports/documents.
I do not have any DHL registry number on my interview appointment letter. Some people who've been to their interviews in Montreal mention that they check your DHL registry nr before they let you in and that people have been turned
away who did not have them.
The appointment confirmation letter that I have is a print out from the VIS official website - there is no barcode or anything there, just a confirmation nr. and at the end the Loomis branch name.

CanadaIn AP for 7 months. Can I visit my wife? Pls help

Hi,

I had my interview in Montreal in Sept. 2012.I am in AP for the past 7 months. I am a Canadian citizen with pakistani background. My wife is a US citizen. Am i allowed to visit her in US? How long can i stay with her? I heard i can stay in US for six months being a Canadian. Not sure how long AP is going to take plus i lost my job recently and wife wants me to live with her for a while.

Also can anyone tell me how much longer it could take for them to finish AP? i know it varies based on individual circumstances but any rough idea?. DOS doesnt give much info and involving Senator didnt help much either. my interview was literally 10 minutes and they only asked basic questions..nothing unusual. i am confused and frustrated.. Life is on hold. pls help. Thank you so much.

Hi
Did Montreal tell you at the interview that you are in AP or did you get an email later on stating that you are in AP. How long after the interview did they let you know that you are in AP? Did you also get a "welcome" letter?
We were given the "Welcome to USA" letter at the interview, but as we did not have our Canadian Passport with us (we have dual citizenship) they told us to send our Canadian passports for visa. We send them our passports about a month ago and have not heard anything from Montreal.

CanadaADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING - 5 MONTHS

I am a Canadian citizen and my wife is a US citizen. I had my CR-1 Immigrant visa interview at Montreal consulate in September 2012. My interview was 10 minutes long and the interviewing officer asked me basic questions about our relationship etc. Once the interview was done, he handed me a welcome letter and told me I should get my visa within 4 to 5 days.
Instead, I received a letter from the embassy in mail saying that my case has been put into administrative processing. It has been five months but no update. I involved congressman but they couldn't do much. their response is "the case is still undergoing administrative processing".
They told me my case is documentarily complete and didnt ask for any further documentation.
Can someone tell me why the case is in AP and how much longer it can take? Is this normal..This is really frustrating.
Also I was born in Pakistan...not sure if this has anything to do with this. Please help.

How about contacting the Montreal consulate directly and ask them - the case officer is the only one in a position to tell you. I have contacted Montreal many times when I was not sure how to proceed, and they always helped.
I don't think it has anything to do with where you were born. Clear your mind from suspicions. I can only imagine that they are conducting the usual investigations in your home country to satisfy any discrepancies.
You have mentioned that "Once the interview was done, he handed me a welcome letter and told me I should get my visa within 4 to 5 days" - did they keep your passport for visa ?
As far as involving congressman, senators etc. are concerned, I wouldn't even bother going that way.....

What time is your interview on the 25th? I'm at 8 am and just booked my hotel room at the Le Square Phillips Hotel and Suites for $177.32 on expedia

Same time! (that is, if the interview actually went through...still waiting on confirmation emails :/ CSC site says it's scheduled though)
Can we book our medical checks now? Or do we need to have a more official appointment letter?

CanadaBooking an interview at Montreal…

Hi satchmo,

This is very helpful, thank you. Do you know if it matters if under “trip purpose” I should use Permanently Immigrate to the United States (Fiance – K1/K2) or Ready to schedule. Just want to make sure I get one quick! :)

For everyone who would like to exchange email or text, please pm for deets.

My routine is to check the Fiance(e) one first, then the Ready to Schedule, and both have been unavailable since I started looking on Feb 17th.

moemac59, where it is now saying "There are no available appointments at this time" is said "Next Available appointment is 38 Day(s)"

EDIT: I've attached my proof, haha. I wish I had just booked at that time (this screen cap was taken on Jan. 27) but I hadn't received Packet 4 yet and was worried it would mess things up, somehow. I also didn't know there was such a scarcity of appointments. The thing that slays me, is they could at least say 100 days, or 3 years, something ANYTHING instead of just nothing. It's very discouraging to just come up against the brick wall of "None".

Montreal is hopeless. :( I have been trying for two weeks straight and nothing. Has anyone been able to find a date recently, just to give me hope? I’m starting to believe that “There are no available appointments at this time.” will never change from my screen. Thanks guys.

Not that it means anything, but I had logged on on January 27th and appointments were available 38 days from that date. So I'd like to think another batch will open up in the next two weeks (but that's just my hopeful math, haha).

I completely understand your frustration (L) And on top of it, it's just a poorly designed system! Bureaucracy, go figure

CanadaBooking an interview at Montreal…

Nothing is assured in the immigration process. It'd be nice if it was. One Canadian VJ member just got out of advanced processing which was nearly 3 months long... That is, she went to the interview, got approved and had to wait 3 months for her visa to be printed and mailed back to her.

It's best to either plan your wedding far, far in advance or not plan it at all until your visa is in your hand. Until then your wedding date is a moving target. I know this sounds harsh but it's true, there is potential for delays at every step throughout the process, including after the interview. I wouldn't trust a lawyer who gave you a hard and fast date because no such thing exists.

We were working off the assumption the lawyer was an expert in her field of work...how silly of us, haha. Haven't been impressed with her assistance (or lack thereof!) at all, which seems to be a common theme for immigration lawyers around here. Hindsight is 20/20 of course, but I suspect I could have used Google as a better resource :/

While I am disappointed with the wait, I'm not too worried, because worst case scenario we have a lovely expensive party with our friends where I happen to wear a white dress and get a lot of attention, and then get legally married whenever the darn visa DOES come in.

Some people have waited as long as 2 months before they got an interview.

This is the most disheartening/maddening thing I've ever heard :(
We filed in July and received Packet 4 two weeks ago. Planned the wedding for May because the lawyer ASSURED us everything would be completed by January...guess not.

I'm glad I found this community, because I've been feeling very low about the whole thing. Thanks for taking the time to write out your experiences everyone :) And happy waiting!
