Well, turns out the people whom my future mother in law invited are coming dry.gif
I told her that if they pay for the dinner, the show, the car and the hotel for themselves they can come. We thought that'd be a stretch and would make them not come.
Well, that certainly wasn't the case.
*sigh*

Oh well. Can't win all the wars.

Girl, it just shows that they are happy for you and your hunny! tongue.gif

My friends threw me a bachelorette party. Because I dont drink, we just went to a wings place, and went to Demetres for desserts and ended the night karaoke-ing. I was surprised at how much fun I had tongue.gif

And because I have several sets of friends and its just tooooo muuuuuch work integrating friend-sets, we were only 5 in my party. Then my other sub-set of friends just took me out to dinner!

Ashen, glad you had a rocking time!

You guys are all right... I know. I'm feeling guilty feeling this way, though, and I don't know why.

And I don't want to gripe. I don't. But I've let go of so much that I've wanted when it came to a wedding for the sake of this process. I have always, always wanted to get married in a Church. However, Ben and I discussed it when we started talking about weddings, and due to our families and our own belief systems, we decided against it. And because of our reasons, I was totally fine with it. So then it came down to a small wedding, just close family... well, my family won't come. Half of his won't come. (All for various reasons.) So now it's a "screw it, let's do it our way and be done with it, move on." And that's fine.. but, though that's my attitude towards the whole process, I don't want it to be that towards the wedding itself.

But I'm just venting now, and I shouldn't be.

The beach wedding idea is nice... though Ben and I aren't really beachy people. I wanted to replicate that idea with the garden theme. I will probably take you up on those samples, though. My mom keeps telling me if I don't think our officiant will say something I like, that I could always write something and give it to him. But honestly, I wouldn't know where to start.

Part of the problem, I know, is that I have no idea whatsoever about our officiant. Our blessing in finding someone we knew is also our curse... because now I have to worry about offending someone the family knows, etc.

Ashen, I say you and I meet halfway between Cali and Florida, throw a double wedding and be done. Yes? tongue.gif Haha.

And Scooter, that dress is absolutely adorable.

Sam, try botanical gardens. When the hubby and I were in Montreal, we thought of going to their botanical garden and so I checked their website -- they will let people in to take wedding photos and maybe if its such a small party, to get married too. Also, I know this is silly but ever thought of going to Disney? At least for photos, they have beautiful gardens.

I agree! In the end, you and Ben are the only ones marrying, you are the two walking down the aisle, the two going through the journey of married life. You should celebrate your marriage the way you want to! And as long as you dont go into debt getting married or something, then why not do what you want?

He did say he would return our deposit, I told Varba to go and pick it up himself.

*comfort* Sorry to hear that sad.gif You guys should ask for compensation for it, bec hes had your deposit for some time now and that has grown interest or something.

Thank you everyone! When I have time, Ill put some pics up to share.

I completely agree about making the day memorable. We dont want to spend a fortune even for the 2011 ceremony, but we wanted to make sure we had a great time at our wedding (last Wed) and will have a great time for the next one. And most importantly, try to make it "your own", cause it is YOUR day. I wore a blue dress to the event because I thought I looked nicer in it tongue.gif And the dress I wore was made of traditional Filipino materials and was on sale for 30 bucks hehehe. We went to the local grill in spite of my husband's mom's objections -- she wanted to go to a more upscale restaurant, but my husband and I have very fond memories of the grill/bar so we had our "wedding dinner" there.

Im really sorry to hear that poprocks sad.gif Im glad that the guy realized what a mistake it was to marry her!

Anyhow, to those who are having their weddings in the next few days/months/years to come, congratulations! I hope that your day is magical and memorable!!!

The hunny and I just got married last Wednesday!

It's hands down one of the best memories I will ever have in my life.

I picked my engagement ring -- actually found one I liked online, sent the link to my husband and he bought it. It is a 1/2 carat, three stone ring with tiny diamonds flanking the big stones. I chose a wedding band that matches the ring, so it has several small stones on half of the band. My rings were pretty expensive, but I really want a nice ring and am really happy with it.

My husband though just wanted a 20 dollar stainless steel ring tongue.gif *shrug* Its what he wants, he was super happy with it and he loves it. I kind of wanted him to buy a more expensive ring but he said he'd rather spend the money elsewhere, and I said, "whatever you want honey". And he is really happy with it.

Anyway, we just did a normal circuit court wedding but it was really beautiful. The judge was soooo nice, she let all 16 of my guests and photgrapher enter, even though fire regulations stipulated that we can only let 12 guests in. We were married under a nice, white arc with flowers on it. Both my husband and I teared up while exchanging our vows.

After the event, my mother-in-law threw us a beautiful appetizer/champagne toast. She and my father-in-law ordered us a very beautiful two-tiered cake and had h'ordereves. Shortly before dinner, we had our "toast" and everyone in the room (except the future WIL) said something super nice to us.

My mom then took us all to the restaurant where my husband and I had our first date for dinner. By that time, both he and I were ready to pass out because of exhaustion, but we had a wonderful time.

A few weeks before marrying (and interviewing!), we booked a room at Aloft for our wedding night. We paid about 80 dollars for the evening, which I think was pretty decent for the hotel -- the hotel was spectacular. It was soooo awesome. Anyway, Im glad we did that because that was the first time we really had "couple" time since the "wedding week".

And tomorrow, my mom and MIL are throwing us a reception. I believe over 60 of our family members are coming. Im really excited.

My husband and I are both very fortunate to have very supportive families. We couldn't have afforded to pay for any of the "mini celebrations" for this week. We had originally just planned to go to the court house and go to dinner. I'm really glad that our families stepped in, because I will always look back to this day/week and remember all the love and happiness that embraced us on the day we got married. To this day, the fact that Ive been married hasnt sunk in yet (I HAVE only been married for 2 days hahahaha), but I wont forget the things that happened to commemorate this event.

Anyway Ive only had time to skim through the past threads, so I dont really know what the current "topic" is. But if you and your fiance have the opportunity to really celebrate this event, do so, even if its simple as going to dinner after or getting a hotel room for the night. I thought that we would save the celebration for 2011, when we'll have our ceremonial event then. But we wont be married in Aug of 2011 because we would have been married in 2009. And I am sooo happy we celebrated the day we made things official the way we did!!! smile.gif

Oh, it feels weird saying "husband" when in the past few months, Ive been writing about him as the "fiance"...

Oh yeah, so if I sound a bit wonky, Ive been operating on 6 hours of sleep since Wed... tongue.gif

I just gotta say...I'm glad that some folks find 60 to be a fairly big crowd. I had about 60 at my wedding and it felt big to me too. Mind you, my mother-in-law's side is Italian, so that made up a large chunk of that number. All those Marios and Marcos...

Haha I agree. My fiance's family is Italian by heritage and the 45 people coming are just from his side, and are just the brother and sister + spouses + kids of his parents. No Marios and Marcos though...

We've both agreed that we will just invite family members for both the civil and ceremonial nuptials as that would essentially be 80 guests already. But who knows -- a lot of my friends from both the Philippines and Canada are hinting that they want to attend the ceremonial event in 2011, so maybe we would reconsider our numbers.

I am getting married next Wednesday! I am so excited.

I hope that all my bad luck for this month has been used up by the Canada Post experience, and that everything else will be smooth sailing for POE and all the "marital plans", next week.

I just found out that an aunt and her family from NC are driving for the event, and that our photographer can make it for the court house ceremony. And my entire family is coming -- which was a huge surprise as it would be the middle of the school week and both my siblings are in school.

Our plan is to do the court house event, have champagne/appetizers at my future mum-in-law's house and dinner at the restaurant where my fiance and I had our first date.

Then my mum, grandma, aunt and future MIL are teaming up to throw us a wedding ceremony on Saturday... and apparently the guest list is now up to 60. My hunny and I are just planning to show up... I think it's just best to leave all the planning to them laughing.gif

I believe between the wedding event, ceremony and Thanksgiving at both our sides, I will be doing a lot of eating. I should start looking for my stretchy pants!

I'm doing it for my family anyway, I could honestly care less about a ceremony.

I didnt think I would be excited as I never thought Id marry, ever. But now I am getting married and Im actually really excited -- for both the legal and ceremonial events. I was looking at centerpieces and dresses, etc., and my sorority sister is doing our photos for a super awesome deal. Ooohh the wedding thread! I never noticed this before tongue.gif

Me and the hunny are having our wedding ceremony in Aug 13 2011 -- yeah it a long time away from now but that date is a Saturday and also our 6th year anniversary laughing.gif The future WIL (witch-in-law) was supposed to get married this November, but when she heard about "our significant" date, she decided to change it to June so she can also marry on their "anniversary" too. wacko.gif Some people just have no originality.

I will have a better idea on when the legal wedding is when I get the passport/visa thing... it definitely will be this year. But right now, my mum and the MIL are planning a reception for this year's nuptial... All of a sudden, our original plan of just going to the nearest courthouse ourselves (MD does not require witnesses too), has now morphed into having 12 guests coming to the courthouse with us, a wedding cake, a pig roast, fondue and 60 people coming the Saturday of when we decide to get married for the "reception" tongue.gif AND Im not even in the planning committee laughing.gif

Wow, so you can interview for no other reason than everyone who immigrates to that particular state gets slapped with an interview...? That is crazy. I thought they would at least consider a particular factor that is common across the board among everyone who interviews.

When most of our batch came over, a lot were just getting transferred... so I thought oh maybe they are changing the interview process as most already interviewed in Montreal/Vancouver, so maybe they don't require an interview anymore. Then I thought it was a co-sponsor thing, but now, meh its a location thing? :P

Anyway good luck folks! I know everyone will do great :)

We didn't have a co-sponsor. But I fully expected us to have an interview - I couldn't find anyone in Florida who had been transferred to CSC, and everyone at VSC gets one. Woohoo. Heh.

Thanks for the hug, though. I'm sure we'll do fine, it's just the weight of importance that's now scaring me.

Oh that is interesting! Rhiann mentioned the same thing with applicants coming from California -- I wonder if there ARE people out there who did not interview from CA or FL?

Well, just focus on the end goal! And I know (you know too) that you will rock the interview!

Ugh, I'm nervous about Tuesday.

I haven't been nervous at all since I got the date. Honestly, I've had my paperwork prepared for a long while now, have added the few things I've needed to as we went along and got closer to it. I don't see how I can be more prepared than I am; I've only been here four months. And yet, I'm nervous.

I pretty much avoid the AOS forums, and I really don't feel like panicking myself now with the random questions I know I'll find therein. How much of a joke is this interview, considering we just had one less than six months ago?

Oh Sam, you will be fine *bearhug* You and Ben have nothing to hide, are legitimately married, followed all the rules. There is really no reason for them to deny you. I understand why you would feel nervous because this is a major interview, but you just have to remind yourself that you've followed all the immigration rules and that it is an interview for formality.

I am curious though to see what is the common denominator among all the couples that have an AOS interview. I suspect its having a co-sponsor, as our batch basically entered the US within a month or two from each other, and filed for AOS in the last few months. Yet some got approval without an interview and others need an interview. If I am right, then maybe they just want to make sure that someone will support you ("alien" spouse) for the length of your conditional stay and nothing more.

Anyway

Ashen -- first off sorry about all the troubles with the AOS.

TimandJoyce -- do you get money transferred in an American account from Canada? Maybe thats why they approved your case. But if the money stays in Canada, I dont know how that would work as income...? Anyway I dont know enough of the topic to say anything, but Ashen, I would suggest to do an individual post about this because not everyone checks the AOS forum and they might have advice on your situation...?

I would definitely send an I-693. I think everyone who didnt have one got an RFE... There is a thread in the AOS forum about all the CS in different states that will do transcription for a small cost. If they cannot be reached, perhaps ask if you can fax them your information and if they can do the transcription that way. The CS I spoke to told me that I did not need to see the doctor to get my transcription.

I think for the varicella, you only need the first shot. The CS I saw for my transcription tried to get me to undergo the same shot, and she said that she only needs to administer one to sign off on the I-693. I fought her tooth and nail of course as Ive had chicken pox as a child... Usually one shot is enough, they just do series so your body remembers the pathogens you were in contact with.

Good luck!

Ashen, I gotta go to work soon but I will write a longer post later. However, I want to give you a big virtual hug with all the hoops you and your hubby are jumping through now. I would say with the I-693 -- I believe Rhiann didnt submit one and if she gets an RFE, you might get it too. It seems like they are stricter now... I think for chickenpox you just need the first shot, at least that was what the CS from Bethesda told me.

On other news, got my approval letter notice from the USCIS e-alerts! Woohoo, finally somewhat legal! :)

Kimbear I think I know what it is!

Some people dont apply for EAD with the I-485... sometimes people apply for the I-485 then apply for EAD after. If you are applying for EAD after your the GC, then you have to show that you applied for a GC because you just cannot be granted an EAD without any legitimate reason (ie. need to be a lawful PR, or from work, or from K1/K3, etc.).

Since youre applying at the same time, it shouldnt be a problem :)
