CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview
Hi VJ Family,

I'd like to be added to the list please!

It helps greatly to see others who are in a similar predicament. My wife and I are finding it harder and harder to get through the days as we get closer to the holidays. Still waiting for our case to be complete!

Thanks,
FF

Agreed! I really don't understand why you didn't get an email... I'm a bit less of a spaz than Lgg, but I would also call and request one, or at least ask why you haven't received it etc. Have you asked your hubby if HE received one? Maybe it got caught in your spam filter or something? (That has happened to me once before with NVC...)

Hi Americana quick question about Dr Seidens office...I still haven't got an interview date, packet 3 was received by the consulate Aug 29 and I called the DOS this morning and they said the usual that I'm eligible but there still clearing up the backlog. Shoudl I wait to get the interview date, which I hope is in Feb, before booking an appointment..Is there anyway their office is too busy that they wouldn't fit me in prior to the interview if I'm scheduled say three weeks prior to the interview. I live in Toronto so getting the docs office is no prob. Thanks for your help. :)

I arrived around 6:50 and saw 2 couples and a little girl there, so I knew must be fellow VJers! Because they knew exactly when and where to start lining up (the side of the door that has security camera) hahaha. Since I am on the same interview date as TorontoGuy and KristinL, I will just write what’s different.

-The officer that let us in to the building was all serious, but the guy at the security screening did smile when he told me to empty all my pockets and I replied that I only have garbage(plastic bag from my breakie) in my pockets. He still put the tray with my garbage through the x-ray machine then helped me throw it out, haha.
-KristinL/TorontoGuy, hapycloud, myself, amberL and this elder couple were the first group to go up to 19th floor. In the elevator, the officer asked us to give him our waiting number, the list and our passport, and keep our paper work to ourselves until get called to the window.
-I kept my x-ray and xpress envelop as is, but later found out that I could’ve folded the xpress envelop in half because that’s what they did to fit it in their file.
-Questions that I was asked at my interview:
• How we met and when was the first time we met in person
• Was it love at first sight? (I answered, not really, hahaha because we only communicated online and even though have seen his picture but still didn’t really know what to expect)
• Where he is from and where I am from originally
• How long has he lived in US
• Where do I plan to live
• How many times has he visit me and how many time have I visit him
• Have I committed any crime
• Am I under any prescription medicine or do any drugs
• Told me that I can’t really go US for just a short visit once my visa is issued, it will be considered as activation of my visa and will need to get married within 90 days. (Guess no more shopping in Buffalo!)

That was it. It is not too bad if you have your entire document prepared and follow their instructions (however weird it is, such as amberL’s experience). Oh and KristinL, Fiona is adorable and she is such a good girl the way I see it, not running around or crying like other kids there.

Like July09Bride said, it has to be very clear. Other than sharpening the photo, make sure you took it with flash light or under very bright condition. I had the same problem, the picture we took under indoor light looked fine on our computer, but DS160 won't accepted it. Took another with flash light eventhough we don't seem to need it and then sharpen the photo a bit and it was fine good.gif

Actually Muffin, California is the fastest service center right now! It seriously took you 8 months to get your NOA2? That's insane. Any idea why that could be the case? It took us a little over 3, that's it.

On the government website they posted that they have received doubled of application during month of July 2008, from the usual 1.2million to 2.4 million blink.gif

REALLY???? Holy cow. And to think, we applied (got our paperwork in) during September 2008. Sheesh.

That's crazy...now that I look at your timeline, you applied after us at the same office but actually got it all done before we did! Geez...we should've send in our application later, instead of got overwhelmed in all those application in July!

Yay!!!

My venue requires their catering and for whatever reason, Mathew doesn't want to do a dinner. So we're just going to serve Hors D'oeuvres.

I would rather have my guests eating actual food, so I'm gonna live out my dream through you on this one!!!! Make me proud! :P

Thanks girl :) My venue also requires I use their caterer thats why Im doing the tasting so early. I told them I wont sign the contract until I taste their menu :P I know Italian sounds oh so boring, but since our event is in the summer, we would at least have really fresh produce and everyone in our families love Italian.

I actually thought about just serving hors d'oeuvres as well -- I think if you had lots of served platters and definitely variety, it would be delicious AND fun -- kind of like a party atmosphere. But most of our guests are a bit older and would want a more traditional setting, so I know I cant do it. Maybe in place of the wedding dinner, you and Matthew can invite your closest family members and friends for dinner!

My hubby and I were supposed to go on a cruise this May but because of the snow, the school year was extended and I cant take the time off.. and Ive already agreed to teach this summer. Anyway we were looking at Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Line. Ive read a whole lot about the two of them and they seem really good. And now, if you book a cruise for May, you can get on a 2 night 3 day one for 209 dollars! Food (except for alcohol) and recreation are included in the price... you just pay for extra excursion when you dock to islands (in this case the Bahamas). Anyway, there are more choices in the summer, but they do get pricier because its in the summer. NCL is especially nice for young couples because they have lots of entertainment functions and they do a more "freestyle" cruise -- no scheduled dining, etc.

Im disappointed we arent going as we've talked about it for months! We're going to Sarasota in Florida instead, so its not so bad... but I do wish we could go cruising :)

Well that sucks..I don't want to void my warranty. It's a lifetime warranty...blargh. >_< So I should probably ask my husband if we could make a trip to San Diego...Thank's for the heads up. I was ignorant to the whole warranty thing.

My hubby bought my ring in Maryland, and I wore it in Canada for a while. He asked the jeweller what happens to the warranty since Ill still be in Canada for a year and therefore cannot get the 6 month inspection routine. They said that they will honor the warranty as long as I get it inspected at any reputable jeweller and that the inspection is "put on paper". So maybe that will work for you.... OOOR you can call to see if they have a sister company at your place and get the warranty inspection continued there.

Rhiann, I think at the end of all, the price of the ring doesnt matter, but the fact that our SO's made sure we have one does. My husband is the most frugal specie in the world... he eats packed lunch every single day and refuses to let go of his dying vehicular junk just cause he doesnt think its economical to buy another car when his still works. But he knows I wanted bling, and even though he thinks just buying some regular band is good enough, he got me one that I would love and at the same time, one that did not jeopardize our finances. My BIL makes twice more than my hubby makes but he refused to buy the future WIL any rock at all. And I think he's willing to buy her a wedding band but his budget would be 500 bucks max!

I love my rings and I dont think my hubby paid a lot for them -- my engagement ring was this 1/2 carat princess cut stone (it is one of those three-stone rings) on a white gold band. My wedding band matches the tiny stones surrounding the biggest stone of the engagement ring. He got them at a local jeweller and I think the hubby paid just a little over 1k for both!

His ring, however, was 20 bucks. Stainless steel and plain. That's what he wanted! :P

And Bern, I think you should be able to get your ring cleaned at the jeweller you bought it from, and if its a chain, from any store of the chain?

Hi guys! I was wondering if any of you used a wedding gown website to purchase your dress. I am definitely hitting the local boutiques for dresses, but I want to keep my dress/gown really reasonable and have been thinking of looking online. I already had a dress in mind (which I planned to order online) but found several terrible reviews on the site. Thanks :)

lol Peachey -- did they return the envelopes or did you find out at the post office?

Thanks lilac -- Ill look for it at the bookstore.

So the bridal show was a super success yesterday! Found some awesome and inexpensive center piece ideas, found three prospective cake places (I ate SO MUCH cake I almost passed out). One of the cake vendors I got a piece of cake from was this super delicious pink cake with champagne in it. It was sooo good. The vendor, however, is located in PA and ordering from them would be $$$.

I also made a decision about our venue -- after consulting the hubby on this, we are going to get re-married at the College of Notre Dame. Apparently they open their chapel and their banquet hall for weddings. After the show, the MIL and I drove to the school and went in the chapel. Its soooo beautiful and sooo quaint. And I can actually get married with a service and all, which is awesome! Both the chapel and the reception were reasonable though we would have to use their caterers for the event.

Having seen several catering services at the show, I realized that to get your event catered and order the china and the silver, the linen, tables and the chairs, can be quite expensive too. And since the college has a very reasonable service per head (and it includes everything), I thought it wasnt a bad deal at all. So I am scheduling a tasting this week and hopefully will make reservations with them.

The best part was there were drawings for door prizes for each vendor station. I won two! One for a bed and breakfast at the local Sheraton and 50 bucks off the chapel rental at the college :P Good deal!

My MIL and I are attending the Baltimore Bridal Show today!!! I am sooo excited. I hope to find caterers, tables, linens and DJ's at the show, so I can plan a budget for the wedding. So far, I have a photographer, have a possible venue, made a decision about my invitations, making my save the dates, made a decision about my centerpieces and also have been considering an online wedding gown. My ceremonial event is not til 2011 and its a looong time from now, but I really want to be as prudent with the cost as possible, so Im hoping making early plans will cut some cost down.

Huggles: My husband is 6'2 and according to the last doctor I visited, I am 4'11.

We drive each other crazy about where to put things in the house. He LOVES to put things up high as he does not like objects cluttering on tables and lower shelves, whereas I have everything where I can reach them, so I dont need a step stool to grab anything!

Of course, we drive each other crazy in other ways too ;)

My photographer sent me a little surprise today! She had finally finished sorting through the my wedding photos from November and posted quite a bit on Facebook. I am sooo impressed at how the photos turned out.

Since the hubby and I want to be prudent on our 2011 wedding expense, I hired a former sorority sister to do my photos. She is a Math wizard/physicist by day, and an amateur photographer by night -- or during her free time. As I will be her first official client, she gave me a very generous package that included my 2009 civil ceremony and engagement photos (to come!). Of course, I was apprehensive that I would have mediocre pictures, but whatever, I wasn't planning on getting a photographer originally. But she is wonderful and I am just soo happy and lucky! I swear, this girl has made me 10x skinnier than I really look :P

Anyway, I just wanted to share some of my favorite photos from my wedding -- these were taken at my in-laws' front yard, right before our champagne toast.

I luck out on this....I was a member of our choir for 6 years in high school, and I'm a member of the church - our choir wouldn't accept payment if I TRIED! Oh, and my aunt's the choir director  The choir is singing three songs - "The Lord's Prayer" (lighting the unity candle), "Love Is" (during the seating of the mothers), and "In the Hands of the Lord" (right after we're both at the altar). They've already distributed programs - and tissue boxes - for the choir loft, and the entire choir will be joining us at the rehersal and rehersal dinner tomorrow!

I think at this point everything is done (except our house being clean, but we're working on that), except decorating the hall tomorrow!

Today is my last day at work as a "single" lady :)

Oh, and we picked up our rings the other night! Preeeeettttttty!

I love the wedding bands! Anyway, best wishes for your wedding ScooterMac! I am sooooooo excited for you. I hope that the day turns out beautifully and that you have the most fun you can ever have! Dont forget to post pictures :)

I told her that if they pay for the dinner, the show, the car and the hotel for themselves they can come. We thought that'd be a stretch and would make them not come.
Well, that certainly wasn't the case.
