OMFG OMFG NOVEMBER 20TH!!!11!1!!11 NOVEMBER 20TH!!! omfg

Heeeey, we're interview buddies!

YAY!!! biggrin.gif

omg, why did i find this out at work!?!?? I'm going to vomit/pee my pants/get in trouble/have a heart attack

Me 3! We're inteview buddies too! November 20th is my sister's birthday and it's the day that New Moon comes out in theatres and it's my interview date! An awesome day!

I am trying to get someone to watch my kids so I can come to Canada to be with him. /crosses fingers

Haha, I definitely forgot that New Moon was coming out that day... Woo.

I definitely surprised Ben... Called him after work and I told him that I couldn't visit for Thanksgiving... that HE had to come to see ME before that for our interview! Yay.

There are a ton of us for the 20th. Pretty neat.

Called for my medical... They scheduled it for 7am... and I was so blinded by the fact that I had my interview that I didn't think about the four hour drive ahead of that... So I've called and left a message to see if I can possibly get one later in the day, haha.

Congrats to everyone scheduled! And definitely crossing fingers for those of you still waiting.

Hmm are you doing a medical in downtown TO? I think they only schedule medicals for 2 or 3 hours every day or something. Its really a VERY fast procedure, but expect to wait so much the entire thing might take 45 minutes. As far as I know, there are no pm appointments.

If youre doing yours downtown TO, I can help you figure out parking, etc.

Please don't make Varba bring out the kittens -- it digresses rapidly from there!

LOL!!!

Yeah Arabella, dont cry anymore! You will ruin your make up and have rudolph nose all day long tongue.gif

I think you also dont need to activate your K1 visa right away -- in fact there is someone who posted in either this forum or the main consulate forum about it. Might be tricky but worth a consideration!

If you are in the Toronto area, I will buy you coffee to celebrate your date!!!!! In fact, anyone in TO, KnJ and I are going to meet a local Tims and toast timbits in celebration biggrin.gif

AND its likely a response out of shock!!!!!

I just called and we have an appointment date too- November 20th at 8:00am.

I called me fiance and you would think he'd be excited but he wants me to post-pone the interview because we changed our wedding date to April 29th, and so obviously he can't activate his VISA until February 1st. He says he doesn't want to go that long without seeing me so he'd rather put off the interview.

I am crying right now . . .

If you do that, you could actually lose about 3 or 4 months for your interview. You very well could go back to the bottom. In fact, I believe that in order to change your date you need a "valid" reason, not just "I don't like the date."

As for seeing him, the USC can still go to Canada. . . . . . . unsure.gif

I don't know what to do. I told him I couldn't talk to him anymore and hung up the phone. Since March we had been planning a New Year's Day wedding, and then we went with April 29th because it seemed like we wouldn't get an interview until 2010.

I don't even know who to call to try and re-schedule.

If he's game, you could always have the "legal" wedding sooner, and the "ceremony" wedding in April. Just a thought!

Yeah! You just need to legally show you got married and have the real wedding in April smile.gif

Also, maybe hes also in shock... I find men can be silly (sorry you all men tongue.gif) and not really respond the way we want them to respond when we give them big news like this!!!! The fiance's grand response to "WE HAVE AN INTERVIEW DATE!!!!!" is, "Ok" tongue.gif

My advice is just to maybe not discuss it today and give you and him time to think. Im sure he will come around!!! I am happy for you to have an interview date and I really hope you guys will be able to work things out smile.gif

On the serious side, if there are people who are planning to go to Montreal via public transit (Via, megabus, bus), lemme know. I really hope you're right. In any case, there is one of four things going on here:
  • Montreal mass-scheduled everyone through a certain date, which would be win.
  • Montreal scheduled dutchmatt due to pressure from his congressperson, which means everyone start your letter writing!
  • Montreal just scheduled him randomly out of order because they're mean and/or incompetent like that.
  • Montreal didn't schedule him and we're going to have another Peachey / Varba situation, and still have no idea what's going on inside that scary building in Quebec.
Really hoping it's not one of those last two.

By the way, I'm totally setting my cell phone to record when I talk to the Department of State tomorrow.

I really hope its the first case. I kept having random dreams about a K1 appointment all night/morning long and finally at 6:30 today, I got up and parked my #### in front of my computer, waiting for 8:30. Gosh, Im so nervous about calling and just cant help but be so hopefully and if its another disappointment, Im gonna have a really bad week.

As I already said congrats in your other post. And yeah Im really jealous and curious... well Im trying to be civil here innocent.gif and also hopeful.

So yes I hope that what everyone is speculating is correct and that we were all given dates because if not... I will just burst into tears and cry my entire day tomorrow. And at this point I dont even care if my interview is later in the year or early next year, as long as I have a frigging date and plan my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! crying.gif

AND it IS possible that having contacted your congressman might have helped. I mentioned in an earlier post that a family friend's fiancee received her interview a week after he (the petitioner) called his senator. If thats the case, the hunny has some major calling to do...

Yes I updated, musi, and jeremy timelines as I am super excited.

HEY YOU!!
I will be the little chick with the wide awake son standing outside the consulate at 630am :P see you there

Hi Canadiandggal! I just self-booked my appointment, same day as you. :)

The online scheduling dealie actually states that you have an appointment time, and not to show up at the consulate any earlier than 20 minutes before that time. The times I could choose from were 8am, 8:30am, 9am.

So, yay! No waiting outside in inclement weather.

It might possibly be for CR/IRs as well. My husband called DoS today (we're doing DCF), they told him the same message - p4 has been sent, but no interview date set. He asked if it's the DIY scheduling, she seemed to confirm that.

I just tried poking around the website, but ran into a few bugs, couldn't try scheduling.

But yay! Possibly good news. :)

Direct Consular Filing (DCF) is the unofficial term for filing an I-130 petition via a Consulate overseas and is available for those couples whose USC spouse is residing outside of the US with their non-US spouse. The majority of us had spouses currently residing in the US so DCF was not an option for us. We had to file our I-130 through USCIS, wait for that approval (NOA2) then send all of our paperwork into NVC, wait for that to be completed and then wait for an interview to be scheduled in Montreal. A different process from DCF.

Further to what OBX has said,

Everyone applying to immigrate from Canada has to go through the Montreal consulate, except for people applying for a fiancé/e visa (K-1), those are split between Montreal and Vancouver, depending on your province of residence.

US citizens residing (legally) abroad have the opportunity to do as you did, and file directly to their local consulate - for the first part of the process. That is, your I-130 petition. Once you have approval for that, then you send your application for an immigrant visa, this is the DS-230. Again, you will be sending yours directly to the Montreal consulate, not to the National Visa Center. The day you send back your DS-230 is roughly comparable to the 'Case Complete at NVC' date for the regular filers (if you are looking at the IR-1 Timeline to Interview' thread.

This whole process is supposed to be the easiest, fastest way to sponsor your spouse, however something appears to have happened in Montreal to severely impact not just DCF, but pretty much everybody's interview dates. Although it differs significantly, DCF filers worldwide are having interviews as quickly as 11 days after they submit their application, whereas some of the people on our thread have been waiting as long as 130-160 days.

Hi guys,

This is a great thread. But it does leave my head scratching a bit. I feel a bit stupid but i'm just wondering what these acronyms represent:
NOA2
RFE

As well, i'm just curious how you would know the date of when your application is done at the NVC. I haven't gotten to that stage yet, so maybe it's obvious, but with the process i've encountered so far, it seems like you usually know very little about the status of your application.

I'm in the process of sending in the DS-230 form along with the checklist. The checklist says you need to have the I-864 form ready but it doesn't say you need to send it in, yet it appears that a lot of people are sending their I-864 form around the same time they send in their DS-230 form. Should I be sending in the two forms at the same time?

Finally, according to this thread, people are getting interviews pretty quickly at the Montreal consulate, yet people in this thread seem to be having a lot of trouble. I'm trying to figure out what the difference may be. There seems to be more steps in this thread, perhaps the people in the other thread are missing something. Anyone have any idea?

Thanks in advance,

- Sam

You are filing DCF, there are far fewer steps involved (no waiting for I-130 approval from USCIS, no sending documents to NVC, etc.) As such, you don't need to be familiar with terms like NOA2 (which is the I-130 approval). The I-864 you mark off on the checklist that you mail in, then bring the actual form to your interview.

As for wait times, the DCF thread is comprised of people waiting for interview dates scheduled by the consulate itself, whereas the people who file the regular way get their interviews scheduled by NVC, hence the reasonably regular (if still painfully slow) scheduling spurts. The only thing we are 'missing' is having someone at Montreal actually pick up our paperwork and slot us into an available timeslot.

Just wondering if everyone gets interview notices by email... We are filing DCF and I was under the impression that we had to wait for a letter in the mail.... Man, getting so excited already! Seeing those August dates is a blessing! Hope we get our date soon too!

Yeah, with DCF we are waiting for a hard copy letter from Montreal with a(n) (eventual) date. Sadly, no email. You can try calling DoS to see if anything's been scheduled, they would probably know about it before you get your paper.

If there's dust being blown, I wouldn't mind being downwind! :) Called today, still no date.

Still no date. Sigh.

Kind of frustrating how DCF applications seem to be trapped in some black hole in the consulate. Getting a tad frustrated that there is not even an avenue for recourse, nobody to contact, etc.

Supposed to be visiting US for a wedding in 2 weeks, was hoping to at least have an interview date to present to CBP so they let me through.

I also called today (against my better judgment), and was told another of the wonderful fluctuating stories - she said they schedule in the first part of each month, and that May scheduling has all been done (the login date of my DS-230 was too late to qualify for the previous round of dates). She said they won't schedule again until the beginning of June, most likely for July dates, specifically "you need a month's notice, there's a lot of stuff to get done in that time". Anyways, take it how you will.

I also (in my impatience) forgot to ask about how things get scheduled - as I filed DCF, my interview isn't scheduled by NVC but by the consulate, so will Montreal stick to that schedule? I feel very confused. And impotent. :P

Yup. From their timeline:

Your I-130 was approved in 17 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 53 days from your I-130 NOA1 date.

53 days from NOA1 to interview is unheard of...

I saw OP mentioned in a post on another thread about border patrol asking to see his MIL ID, so I presume it might have been some sort of expedited process for military.

1. If the interview is in April, what do we do about income tax filings, will he (USC) need to file and then I bring that to the interview?

You're probably best to file as soon as possible (the *deadline* for filing is Apr 15, but your husband can do it well before then), so you can have it with you.

Sounds like she might be K filer...just out of curiosity I called NVC's AVR to see what is would say about my case and to my surprise the message changed from 'Your case was completed on....Please allow up to 8 weeks for further instructions" to "Your case was completed and forwarded to consulate general in MTL on..." So I just checked DHL reference for that date and found out something interesting...whereas other consulates get 1lbs-2lbs packages, MTL gets packages that are 5-6lbs almost on a daily basis...that kinda shows that they do keep themselves busy...
