Canada	Canada tax info	I called CRA yesterday. They reported that I DO NOT have to report the EI income or federal tax on my tax return. Also, since I don't have any US income, and 90%+ of my income is from Canadian sources I don't have to prorate my exemptions. I left July 3 2005. From what others have said, I don't need to, and by the size of my calculated deduction, I don't want to Also, about the partial 217, besides writing it on the form and adding in my payments/taxes for EI, what else do I have to do? btw, thanks alleycat for the form for the CPP overpayment, it saves me $40. They have a relatively cheap insurance, $30-50 I believe, that if you purchase and they make mistakes on your US income tax they will cover the costs. Canada	4 Chrissake what else. The H&R Block guy HAS NO CLUE	We just took our file away from a very relieved H&R block staffer. She had no clue, and now hubby knows almost as much as I, and either one, far more than she She kept saying she'd call us back and never did. She told us information that I KNEW was wrong, said she'd called a few people. Doesn't help if they're all H&R block staff!!!! They suck and can't do much more than fill out the online forms. I was just going to visit though. fwiw, While we were in Montreal for my interview, there was a guy there who got married while waiting for the K-1 to be processed. But you have to persevere on the phone to talk to a supervisor who knows what to do. Canada	bank account in US	2 issues: bank account and credit To answer your question, I was able to become a joint account holder with my now husband, 6 months before moving here - did it while visiting. It helped me open my own account shortly after getting here. Credit has been difficult to establish. I CANNOT get a car loan. IT SUCKS!!! I got a secured credit card last fall - I put up the full amount of my credit card limit. However, that record won't hit my credit records for 8-12 months. Do WHATEVER you can to get credit early. I wish I'd gotten an American Express card in Canada based on my Canadian salary. Of course I'm assuming it could have been transferred over. Canada	Grrr...	edit: Also be prepared for a difference in using flour. Apparently Canadian flour is harder milled than US...meaning if you make something like bread, you have to use bread flour in the US (whereas in Canada you can get away with just using all-purpose) The flour is different? I went for my 12 week ultrasound and let me tell u the tech. was pressing down on my belly and moving around the wand everywhich way. I was just looking at her facial expressions the whole time. After about 5-10 min she told me to empty my bladder. I was almost in tears. I asked her "why, cant u see the baby" She says yes I see a BIG baby an its not cooperating!" I was relieved and DWL. So I go to empty my bladder and after abt 2 min after i came back and lie back down, she show me the baby on the screen! The baby was BIG compared to the one I had at eight weeks. And he/she was waving. I was in tears. Everything is okay with babe so far as for me I still have nausea!!! I have my family BBQ tomorow.
