My packet 3 was delivered this morning in Montreal!! At 713am, I guess they work early! I will email them some time to confirm delivery. When should I do that? Some time next week?

Wait 2 weeks because it takes them roughly that long to process it into their system.

I found a picture of the entrance off google image search--It's a double-door with the address number overhead (1155) and the US Consular seal (bald eagle).

Does anyone think going before 7am is worth it? I am staying on the same block as the consulate so I can go as early as necessary.

Can anyone who has already been to the interview clarify something for me:

How does the line actually form outside the consulate building?

From my understanding the entrance is on the south side off Rue-St.Alexandre (not Blvd Renee Levesque) and there should be some clear signage indicating the consulate. But is there a clear place to start a line? I assume that I'll be among the first people there between 6:30-6:45, so I won't have the benefit of joining a line unless someone even more hardcore is waiting there first.

One more week to go!

Hey poprocks,

Regarding the packets and interview timing:
I submitted my packet 3 (DS-230 part 1 and document checklist, contents may vary since I'm applying for K-1) in mid-December and have my interview on March 19th. That is a 3 month turn-around, with the actual notice of appointment (called packet 4) arriving around the 2-month mark. Packet 4 has the interview appointment letter along with instruction sheets about security screening and XpressPost prepaid mailers (again, contents may vary but they'll all have the interview appointment). If you sent the checklist (and any other required documents) by the end of this week, you should probably get your interview in late May or early June.

Regarding the medical results:
Did you go to Toronto or Montreal? In Toronto the results are ready in 2 days for pickup. If you chose the mailing option, they'll courier the results to your home. I'd image that would tack on at least a few extra days. So if the doctor is waiting for an immunization result in 2 weeks, you should have the results in 2 weeks + 4-5 days...

Today's tidbit of information:

I asked Montreal if my sponsor can use the new I-134 Affidavit of Support form (found here) and they said it is accepted.

So just a heads up to anyone who has an interview coming up and/or working on their I-134's... go download the new one and you won't have to get it notarized.

Today's tidbit of information: I was wondering how the heck I'd carry the chest x-ray to Montreal (it ain't exactly a convenient form factor) so I emailed the consulate to find out if it was necessary.

Here is their response:
QUOTE
Unless there are any TB issues which the doctor discussed with you, you do not have to bring the X-ray, when your visa is issued then you should bring them to the US and give them to your personal doctor.

I found out today that there is a new edition of the I-134 (Affidavit of Support) released in October 2008 that no longer requires notarization.

The old edition with notarization is still valid according to the USCIS website for the I-134. I didn't know about the new edition so I had my Fiancee's Dad (co-sponsor) fill out and notarize the old one over the holidays. I'm going to have my Fiancee use the new version just so we don't have to go through the hassle of getting to the notary. Hopefully there won't be any problem mixing the editions...

Did anyone who recently went for an interview (or is waiting for one) use the new version?

I had problems with pkg 3 and took a long time submitting it, but my case hasn't been touched since mid September. It seems that people who sent in pkg 3 just before or after me are getting interview dates for next month. I'm seriously hoping I'll be in the next batch!!

If I want to call, do I call MTL or DoS (1-202-663-1225) and do they have a holiday today like we do in Ontario? helpsmilie.gif

Have you confirmed with MTL if they have received your packet 3 documents (DS-230 part 1, DS-160, Document Checklist)? You can do that via email.

Once you have confirmed that MTL has your packet 3 docs and that you are in the waiting list for interviews, you can start contacting DOS to see if you have an interview -- with that phone number (202 663 1225).

That's the order that I did it in.

I'm jealous - Having a Wednesday date kind of sucks, although I think we're just going to extend the weekend from Sat-Wed - I was just hoping for only having to take 1-2 days off work and not use all my vacation, but I guess 3 days isn't so bad either.

I don't mind using up my vacation days cause I can't cash them out anyway and I want to make sure I use my yearly allowance before I quit.

Another good thing about this time of year is that the hotels are dirt cheap -- I found a bunch on Expedia that were downtown for around $90 a night.

Congrats! Did just press 1 and 0? I tried that and keep getting a message saying that their office is closed.

That's interesting that you subtracted your taxes do they as for a net amount rather than a gross amount - or they don't specify? ...

I'm pretty sure the DS-160 asks for your gross (pre-tax) income. I checked my copy of the form and that's what I used.

CanadaHotel Reviews Montreal
QUOTE (T.O_2_FL @ Feb 20 2008, 06:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We stayed at Hotel XIX which was a 15-20 minute walk even in the snow storm they had....we were very happy with our room. Boutique hotel in Old Montreal with many restaurants within walking distance.

Less than $115/night booked online via hotels.com

I have to say...whenever I travel for business, I always look up my destination in www.tripadvisor.com......

I stayed at the Sheraton on Rene-Leveques. Normally it is very expensive but my sister and I got a double room for 109.00 per night. I'm guessing the room was cheap because i did tons of searching on the internet for deals AND it was the off season for Montreal. This hotel is very close to the consulate and we really enjoyed it particularly because it was so cold outside. We utilized the gym, pool, and hot tub which was a really nice bonus.
I was going to stay at the old hat Centre Ville but the Sheraton was like the same price so why the hell not!!!

My review (from the perspective of someone on the receiving end)

It's been said again and again that the interview is the easiest part of the visa journey and after being through the experience yesterday, I can attest to the truth of that statement; there's really nothing to worry about as long as you do as your told and perform like a robot. I saw some other folks (not from VJ) on the verge of a nervous breakdown and I completely understand how the mind can put a person there - most of you know how helpless I felt a month ago thinking about every horrible scenario that could happen. Strangely enough, after 8 months of paranoia and worrying, I was the calmest I've ever been throughout the whole process. We had done everything we were supposed to do - there was nothing left to do but go through the motions of the interview.... Kristin mentioned here that she was nervous, however, I think it was due to the fact that she wanted to leave the x-rays back at the hotel since most VJ'ers say they don't need it for the interview. When we got to the elevator with our little check-list, it read "separate your x-ray report from your x-ray", which implied that they would ask for it. Well, that document was inside the brown envelope back at the hotel!!! Nonetheless, they never asked for it at the booth nor did they want the x-ray. However, I would still suggest you bring your x-rays regardless what other VJer say. DON'T TAKE CHANCES! Should you have any medical history worth questioning or further investigation, it is the consuls right to ask for the x-ray. The doctor wouldn't have given it to you if there wasn't a remote chance you'd have to submit it for whatever arbitrary reason.

As long as your paper work is perfect order and you answer their questions like a robot (bleep, bloop, bloop) you will not have a problem. From my perspective, I don't think my interviewer was nice, rather, he was neutral. He barely talked to me as he conversed with Kristin the whole time. His tone of voice was different with me then her; to her, he was like an old comrade - to me, he was direct, straight, and to the point. It made me feel "less than" but don't forget what they say, "having a K1 visa is a privilege - not a right" - that was a perfect demonstration of that concept. The lady who did my paper filing was fairly decent; she greeted me with a smile. All she did was fire off commands and paper ID forms and I shot them back through the booth at her quick and fast. The guards at the door were straight up typical security officers: no smiles, commanding, linear, "do this - do that" etc... All in all, nothing was warm and friendly about the interview, it was a cold and bureaucratic environment. I don't think being a warm fuzzy care-bear is part of their mandate so my suggestion is not to expect that. Just do as your told and you'll be fine.

On my way out, I made sure to smile and thank the guard to remind him that even security guards can show their humanity. I think he cracked a smile too...

I'd like to hear AmberL's story in more detail as it sounds like she had more of a bad experience with someone there.

Hi everyone

I have returned from my absenteeism on VJ! I really needed to take a break from all the obsessing on the interview and enjoy the time I had to bond more with my future family in Asheville as well as getting used to the massive culture shock of pick-up truck hillbillies and organic hippies living together in peacefull harmony (for real!)

It's been one hell of a long rough ride. Here it is July already and we filed back in October '08 - it seems like a lifetime ago. So much has evolved and changed since October and now we're about 4 days off from the end-mark. I told Kristin, she has every right to jump and down and say " I told you so!!" because I've been so dang paranoid about the interview. Truth is - this visa will used for 2 days (after waiting 8 months for it) as we will get married emmediatly after crosisng the border to begin the AOS process. My poor frail mom is alone living in Toronto and I can't dilly-dally on the Adanved Parole.

I'm excited to meet the people from this forum on July 8th! b]Anyone up for a pleasant celebratory group lunch on the 8th?[/b] It's the "Canadian" thing to do afterall, eh!?

Hubby is supposed to mail back our checklist to Montreal today. We did the DS 160 online over the weekend and it was a big pain with a lot of glitches. I hope they fix that thing! His medical is in Montreal on June 19th.

Mine had glitches too. When I printed the photo with barcode page, it only saved/printed half a page. Thank god I saved it as a PDF before it glitched because I had Acrobat PRO. ;-p

What happened to your page?

REPOSTED with EDIT

Thank you everyone for kind words. They are reassuring to know that I am not alone and that there is more to this thread than dates, times, paper work, and poutine. :-)

My post was a little vague. Of coarse, demoralized or not, I will put my papers together as best I can before the interview - but I think what some of you said about me feeling "victimized" is most correct. I have felt victimized since day 1 when I first glanced at the immigration websites for the U.S and saw how daunting and overwhelming it was. I am an A+ University student who could blast through an exam with flying colours yet I tremble everytime I see another immigration form - is that defeated or what?!?! I thought I could be smart enough to calculate the timelines and promise myself that second week of June would be our idealized wedding date at our magical music festival - I was wrong. So yes, I feel victimized by not being able to work, waiting forever and loosing our wedding date, and of course giving up my health care so I can sell a kidney to pay pay for my heart transplant one day (a figure of speech). If we had it any other way, we'd live in Canada but my step-daughter is court mandated to see her bio-dad every other weekend and so I chose to come here to the U.S. I'd sacrifice just about anything for both of them because I love them so much. Every time I see someone have a good interview, it makes me feel reassured. Is it true what others have said? Is the interview really the easiest part of the K1?

At least my wild flowers are sprouting in the front yard...... :-)

(My timeline does not work and the admins haven't replied to my requests to fix it)

And yeah, I've never been to Montreal and I really am looking forward to having real poutine.....

SeekerSharer: Some words of encouragement are greatly welcomed regarding the interview. I'm living in paranoia that the more I bond with my step daughter and future wife that I'll be ripped out of their life for some unknown reason at the interview. My papers are disorganized still and I have no strength to organize them because I'm completely demoralized at how long it has taken to receive an interview date. We were supposed to get married this weekend at the annual music festival we met at last two years ago (which is this weekend). Instead, we've lost out on that and will likely get married in some ghetto hillbilly courthouse whenever Montreal decides to put their poutine down and sort the P3 files.

Crossing the border this time was the hardest ever. I almost didn't make it when the POE guy said "I don't think I can let you in based on what you're telling me". It was our NOA2 that made a little sunshine in his day because he saw we were good little sheeple who follow the rules and have good intent! Phew! I'm so grateful to be with my family and let the interview date sort itself out. Now we can bite our nails together and drive down here alllllll over again in a few weeks! :-)

Advice to anyone trying to cross with a pending K1 - BRING YOUR PAPERS!!!

Well, today's Tuesday and I plan on calling in a few hours. I'll update this forum tonight with the progress!!

Wow! What a day of posts! Just to clarify, I always call on Tuesdays for both myself and Kristin! :-)

And Amber, consider this: even though someone else got their P4 out of order, it means 'the pile' is being sorted again. All of us should get a P4 very soon. As for calling the DOS, I am with you 100%. I find them to be extremely rude on the phone and they like to hang up on you too after giving one words answers which are always "NO!" and "NOTHING YET!". This is what makes me wonder if they can see a call log of how many times we all call.

Kristin and her little girl are up in Toronto visiting right now. I'm going back with them on Sunday to the US to wait out the interview date!

Goodnight Everyone!

Update re: new June 22 interview couple. I looked at the timelines this morning and saw how fast these people have been pushed through the system. It just goes to show that the requests made by the members on this thread for earlier interview dates were completely ignored and have no bearing on what actually happens... A completely unfair system

I'm still going to hold out for a June interview date. You never know, the consulate may still take into consideration our early June wedding date and call us in. Anything is possible. Until then, I am going down to the U.S. on Sunday to wait out the rest of this nightmare. I think Montreal is long overdue for a new round of interviews and I think they have plenty of space in June.....

Great! More paperwork for the pile while I continue to wait! :-)

So here's a personal question: how many other here have broken nerves and extreme anxiety from the amount of time it's taking to get an interview date? Isn't is nice to know that countries like Cambodia have faster processing times than Canada? This whole visa process has consumed me.... I'm drowning....

I will try to visit my significant other in June so I can forget this interview date altogether. I have a letter from mom, employer, bank statement, Canada Post change of address confirmation, and our K1 papers to show Mr. Grumpy pants Border Guard . I hope it's enough....

Kristin is actually referring to the DS-156 - not the 156k. Do we still need to prepare a DS-156? The packet 3 never asks for it except in tiny little print on one of the other DS forms at the top.

I will still be calling on Fridays until someone hears anything. Ruby and I dont have similar timelines so I dont think it matters that we both call on the same day.

No problem. Kristin and I will call Thursdays!

Alright! Here's the list for the next while until we start getting interview dates! Whether or not we get a date, let's keep each other updated on YES or NO for each of the days we've volunteered to call the DOS.

HAPYCLOUD: MONDAY
TORONTO GUY: TUESDAY
SPARKY&ME: WEDNESDAY
KRISTINL: THURSDAY
RUBY_MTL: FRIDAY

Next weekend I'm going to go visit the love of my life until the stupid interview gets scheduled. I'm sick of waiting for this B.S. to finish. Nonetheless, I will still call on the day I said I would and report back to the forum.

I'm sorry for missing your name AmberL! Do you think you could call Thursdays then? Both Kristin and I are the same file. This way, all of us will be calling DOS once per week. Let us know if you are able and willing for Thursdays....

Thanks everyone for answering the roll call. Here is a list of who I can visibly see in this thread still waiting for their packet 4/interview date.

PERSON(S) WAITING + DATE PACKET 3 LOGGED IN:

Sparky&Me: April 7th (?)
amberL: April 9th
Toronto Guy and KristinL: April 27th
hapycloud: April 28th
ruby_mtl: May 1st

It is my suspicion that since Montreal doles out interviews in batches, the moment one of us gets an interview date from the DOS, it is likely we will all get an interview date at the same time.

Since there are five of us, would anyone be interested in picking a day of the week to call the DOS so it'll be like each of us calling everyday without making ourselves appear crazy-obessed to the DOS? They do, after all, log each time we call! :-/ Or, would you all just like to stick together and report to each other the moment you do get an interview?

From the looks of it April 7th to May 15th is a long time to go without scheduling interviews.....

If I missed anyone, speak now and I'll add you to the list!

Currently I am calling on Mondays in the afternoon. So I can continue doing that no problem...as of Monday May 5, 2009 I did not have an interview date. This ofcourse I figured because I think they will give them out on Friday May 29th LOL smile.gif

I will let you all know if I hear anything next Monday smile.gif

I am crazy obsessed by the way, but trying not to appear so smile.gif I just constantly check VJ instead of harassing the DOS!!! wacko.gif

I can do Tuesday's at 4:30pm!! So we got hapycloud doing Mondays, Toronto Guy calling on Tuesdays....anyone else?

Btw: I called yesterday afternoon and there was still nothing....

Im sure they get lots of e-mails every day from people asking to have the soonest possible interview date, because well we are all in the same boat but, maybe I am just miserable because I am like one of 3 I think September VSC fillers who havent had an interview yet, but I am getting off topic... I feel like now I should request an earlier interview date because I dont want to get a later date than everyone else that sent in their p3 after me because those people have asked for the earliest date possible even though we all got the piece of paper in our p3s that estimated 4-6 months for an interview. I wish things worked first come, first serve ><

I think they will schedule all of us very soon. If you haven't received an interview after your packet 3 was logged way back from April 9th, then they are seriously overdue to do a new round of interview dates. Our wedding was planned around an annual music festival of less than 100 people who know and love us and were really excited to see us married. At this point, it's highly unlikely. I suppose now we'll have to have an "off the highway wedding' in a courthouse. We never, ever, though it would drag on like this.
