CanadaReview: Medical @ Dr. Seiden's Toronto - Sept 26, 2011
My appointment at Dr. Seiden's was on September 26, 2011 at 7am. I received my interview date for Montreal on September 14th and left a voice mail with Dr. Seiden's office requesting an appointment. The secretary called me back the next day and was very nice on the phone.

Vaccination Records:
Before getting into how the actual appointment went I should mention that several weeks prior to the appointment was quite stressful as I realized that I did not have the necessary records for my vaccinations. I went to my family doctor way back in February 2011 with the list of required vaccinations and she told me that "everything was up-to-date". Although I had had a tetanus booster in 2004 she gave me another one in February 2011 anyways. When I was organizing my records a few weeks ago to make sure that I had everything I checked on Dr. Seiden's website again and noticed that I needed to have proof of my childhood tetanus shots along with boosters every 10 years. Since my pediatrician retired years ago I was unable to get these records. I panicked and went back to my current family doctor and she assured me again that the shots I had were sufficient. I wanted to be sure so I called Dr. Seiden's office again to verify. The secretary asked me how old I am and I told her that I'm 33. She said that I need to show that I've had three tetanus shots or else get a titer test done. Running out of time I went back to my family physician who told me that they don't do titer tests for tetanus. I left her office and went straight to a walk-in clinic to see if they would do the test for me. There I met with another doctor who also told me that they don't do titer tests for tetanus. When I explained why I needed it and showed him the print out from Dr. Seiden's website, he agreed to write a requisition for me and told me that it would take 2-3 weeks to get the results. This is because the blood work needs to go to Public Health in Calgary. **What I have learned from this is that even if your doctor thinks that you have all the required vaccinations, double-check with Dr. Seiden's website and secretary but also leave enough time in advance so you aren't rushing like I was**

I knew at this point that I wouldn't have enough time to wait for the titer test results but I did the test anyways and was hoping that the results would come back in 2 weeks. I then looked online for the Public Health Records phone number to see if they might have my childhood records. After being transferred several times I ended up with the Public Health Unit of Toronto. I spoke with a very nice lady on the phone and she told me that under the North York archives they had my childhood health records. I was ecstatic and drove down to Coxwell to pick up the records in person that same day. Sure enough they had records dating back to when I was just born up until I turned 18. She did tell me on the phone that it's "hit or miss" but I guess I got lucky. So for those of you that don't have your childhood records I recommend calling your Public Health Unit. It has been exactly 3 weeks since I took that titer test and I still haven't received the results yet.

Medical Exam:
I got to Dr. Seiden's office at 6am. The secretary told me on the phone that the office opens at 7am but that she opens the doors at around 6:30am. I was the first in line and about 5 minutes later there were 3 more people after me. We waited outside the office for a few minutes and then the secretary let us file into the waiting area by 6:10am. She asked that each of us get our interview letters ready for her.

The secretary called me into her office first and asked for:
--3 passport photos (I only needed 2 because I am pregnant and did not need to do the x-ray)
--passport
--cash
--immunization records

She asked me to sign a few waivers and then showed me into one of the examining rooms. I waited there for about 20 minutes and then another nurse entered the room and led me to a different room where she took my blood. She gave me a baby needle and it was painless. This nurse led me back into the first examining room.

About 10 minutes later another nurse came in and weighed me and took my height, blood pressure and pulse. She asked me to take off all of my clothes and put on their paper gown. I quickly changed and then waited there in my paper gown for another 15 minutes.

Next, a female doctor and nurse came into the room. The doctor went over my medical history and asked if I had any operations and went through a list of questions (stroke, heart disease etc.). She checked over my immunization records and said I had everything in order. She left and the other nurse continued to check my eyes, reflexes and feet. She also checked my breathing and did a breast exam. She also measured my stomach which I am assuming was because I am pregnant?

After that she said I was free to go and I got changed and was the first out of the office by 7:45am.

Overall everyone was friendly but I would say quite rushed. As long as you have your documents in order it's very easy.

**A note on Parking - I read some previous reviews about parking in a P parking lot on the side street for $5. I drove to this lot but found out that it was closed (probably because I was there at 6am). I read reviews about some people getting their cars towed because they were parking on Front St. during rush hour. This is because there are signs on the North side of Front St prohibiting standing or parking from 7am - 9am. You can however park on the South side of Front St. I parked for free since I was there so early and meter parking does not begin until 8am. So you CAN park on the South side of Front St.

I hope this review helps and I want to thank all of you who have posted reviews. All of the reviews that I have read have helped me tremendously. Good luck to everyone!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOriginal Documents required for CR1 Interview already mailed to NVC

So, you have never done EP? Like sending scanned i864, ds-261 (instead of ds-3032), scanned supporting docs for ds-260 to NVC instead of?

Hi! What does EP stand for? We mailed our I-864 by post I didn't know that you could scan it and send it online. All of our supporting civil documents were also sent by registered mail to NVC. I completed the DS-260 online.

Your filing status isn't filled out may want to do that so you can get better answers but for CR1 visas the NVC sends the packet with the originals to the embassy for the interview and you get the originals back that day.

Thanks! I didn't know how to fill out my status but I just filled it out now. Thanks for the tip.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOriginal Documents required for CR1 Interview already mailed to NVC
Hi everyone, I just joined VisaJourney today and am finding all of your posts extremely helpful. Our case was completed August 31, 2011 and we are now waiting to find out when we can schedule an interview with the Montreal Consulate. Everyone is saying that we need to bring original documents to the interview but I am wondering how to do this if we mailed our original documents to the NVC already?

We were asked to mail original civil documents (marriage certificate, police certificate etc) to the NVC and my husband mailed his original I-864 months ago. I was told to fill out the DS-260 online.

Does the NVC mail these documents back to us before the interview?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresExpedited Interview Montreal Consulate?

It took approximately 6 weeks from the time I received an instruction package to the date I received my notice of interview. My interview was scheduled for Sept 2nd, just short of a month after the notification.

So if you were to follow a similar timeline as I was fortunate to get, it is going to be extremely close to your due date.

Best of luck.

Thanks for your reply and the reply above. I have been reading about instruction packages and packet 3 and packet 4 and I'm confused. I haven't received any packages or packets in the mail I have only received instructions from the NVC via email. The last email I received from NVC stated that my case was completed and that I should wait for an interview date. Was the instruction package you are referring to packet 3?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresExpedited Interview Montreal Consulate?
Hello everyone, my case was completed August 31, 2011 and I am waiting to find out about my interview at the Consulate in Montreal. I'm living in Toronto and my husband is working in Maryland.

Does anyone know approximately how long it takes to find out when my interview date will be scheduled? Does the NVC schedule the interview or do I schedule the interview on the Consulate's website? I am 6.5 months pregnant and fear that I will only be able to safely travel for another 2 months. This will be our first child and we were hoping that we could be together for our son's birth. Any advice on how the interview scheduling process works and how it might be expedited would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMontreal Consulate Interviews - October 2011

NVC schedules spousal interviews. You are talking about K-1 people booking interviews.

You will need to keep in contact with NVC to find out or just wait till they contact you. Its advised that you keep in contact with them though as it seems to get better results.

Thanks for answering, that clarifies things. I was getting really confused.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMontreal Consulate Interviews - October 2011
Hi all, can anyone explain the interview scheduling process for the Montreal Consulate?

I've read in other threads that beneficiaries receive an email (packet 4?) from the Consulate and then are able to schedule their own interview dates. Is this correct or does the NVC assign specific interview dates? Or does the Montreal Consulate assign specific interview dates?

Good luck and I hope we all get October interviews!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMontreal Interview Dates?

Called NVC today and was told that we are waiting for an interview date. Interviews are being scheduled this week apparently.

Has anyone obtained an October interview in Montreal recently?

Please let us know as we are so anxious and excited. Praying we don't have to wait until November!

I called the NVC today as well hoping and praying for an October interview date. The NVC operator said that they have not been scheduled yet and that the NVC is waiting to hear what the capacity is for October from the Montreal Consulate. The operator that I spoke with today said that they should have the schedule next week.

Good luck and I hope we all get October interviews!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIssued CR1 instead of IR1

Hi all,

I just received my passport and brown envelope (it's really yellow!) and noticed my visa in the passport states CR1. At the time of my interview we had been married 2 years and the Consular Officer said I would be given an IR1.

Now, I understand that when I enter the US I have to point out we have in fact been married for 2 years to get the 10 year stamp in my passport. Has anyone out there been successful in doing this??

I also understand if we aren't successful in solving this problem at the POE we can complete an I-90. We would like to avoid any more paperwork!!

Thanks!

Hi, I realize you posted this several years ago but I was wondering what happened? I received my interview date by email yesterday and it says CR1 instead of IR1. I will mention it to the Consular Officer but I was wondering if you had success at the POE or if you had to fill out more paperwork once you entered the US.

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsThe BIG Interview in Montreal!!!!!!!!!
Hi Everybody I just wanted to put up a post for all that might be a little stressed out over their upcoming interview in Montreal and pay it forward for all of the help that everyones wonderful posts have helped me. Lol..........good thing I wasn't stressed right??????? Right...........lol.

But truthfully it was one of THE easiest things I have ever been through!!!! The thing is that most of us compare this to the horrors that so many of us have been through with the CBO's at the Canadian Airports(Particulary Pearson) don't we????? I know I did!!! But when speaking with my lawyer one week prior to my interview he reminded me that these are Consulate people that will interview you and not Custom Officers........two different breeds trust me!!!

All of which resulted in just ordinary people really that look at your stuff more logistically than anything else and that the interview isn't really about you in particular but about the relationship that you and your fiancee have.

So with all that being said, this is what to expect!!!!!

The doors opened up about 7:30 AM so be there about 7ish to get as far up front as you can get. Your door pass is your interview letter that came with your package. One of the security guards looks at it and then asks you to step inside and wait at the top of 4 stairs in front of a line. Then one of the guards inside another set of tinted doors opens it up and tells you to come in and to give him your Passport and empty your pockets into a tray and to put your documents into another tray. And then you go thru a scanner just like at the airport. Oh and by the way if you have a remote on your car key they will take it and give you a claim check # to pick it up after!!! Lol.......wouldn't want to blow the place up right?????

If all is in order with your Passport then they give you back all of your stuff and give you a designated letter of the alphabet to take with you and ask you to go down a flight of stairs to the basement and you will sit in one of the chairs beside a Passport photo booth. Then two officers come and ask letters A-E to come onto an elevator and you all go up to the 19th floor whereupon you see a whole bunch of numbered cashiers windows and you just have a seat anywhere.

Then you will hear a loudspeaker call your letter and the booth you go to. Lol..........then this is where the real fun starts!!!!

Then gentleman who will take your info is very friendly but if I have to give THE most important advise it would be to memorize where the pertinant documents(Birth Cert., Police record, photos etc.) are in your package for he just LOVED the fact that I instantly gave him what he asked for one by one. When he is done asking you for your documents he tells you to have a seat out in the waiting room and you will be called soon. If they like what you have presented them then you are called to give left and right hand fingerprints and thumbprints then you are given a slip of paper to take to a cashier and give your $131 fee. She will give you a receipt which you will keep to give to the interviewer. I had to wait about 1/2 hour after payment before my name was called so don't panic with the wait..........all is well or you would not have gotten this far trust me.

Then I got the magic call to go to Room 7.......lol. It is just a cashiers window like all the rest but in a small room with a closed door. The woman who interviewed me was just THE friendliest person who greeted me with a BIG smile so just relax and be yourself.......lol, hopefully that is naturally nice and friendly?????? She scans one of your thumbs to prove that you are who was thumbprinted before......wouldn't want a ringer right??? Then she asks you to raise your right hand and swear to the truth the whole truth etc.

And true to what I was told, all of the questions were about Deb and myself.........how did you meet; have you set a date yet; what are our common interests; do I have job possibilities, etc....... Lol............all was so informal that I thought she was going to offer me a Starbucks Caffe Latte!!!!!

Then at the end she asked me for the magic signature at the bottom of my DS-156K and then gave me the
BIG congratulations and then explained what I need to do after this stage(AOS and EAD).

So after all of this rambling I just wanted to say relax and be natural BUT.........have your document act together like never before for I was told that if you don't then they aren't quite as nice............lol.

Oh and just a side note??? Don't forget to write down the tracking # of your XpressPost so you can track your Visa. I forgot but sent an E-mail to the consulate....... Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov......and they not only responded within the hour but gave me my tracking # AND my visa will be here this Friday........4 days after the interview!!!!

So I hope no one has fallen asleep during my novel here, lol, but hopefully this sets a lot of minds at ease in prep for that magic day in Montreal.

Oh and.......don't forget about that bottle of Red for celebration right?????

CanadaHas any one ever gone back to Canada?
We're in the middle of the process right now.

I posted to your other thread about needing income to sponsor your spouse. I forget the exact wording, but it's something like, you don't have to prove that you have sufficient income, but they ask you about it anyway - I sure don't want to be denied just because we didn't have that taken care of, so I'm applying for work from New Jersey.

also, think about whether your spouse will file from here or in Canada. Here seems to take less time and the spouse can travel back and forth across the border. If the spouse applies from inside Canada, they may be denied reentry into Canada and have to start all over again. Plus, it takes longer.

One thing I'd suggest is that you get your citizenship done before you move, because if you get to Canada and want to move back here, you will have to go through US immigration all over again. Check my timeline - it's about 6 months through Newark.

Lots to think about!

Hi,
We just started the process too.

The biggest hurdle is going to be proving that I can support my US hubbie. It's hard to get a job in Canada while I'm still in the US, but I need a job in Canada before I can afford to live there.

Yea but a Cr-1 means we need to be married first and that would have to be outside of the states. Sorry I tried to get that damn visa journey thing going but i already have my interview date in August. So basically the consensus is I need a co-sponsor. I might have a co-sponsor but she is already sponsoring her husband for a green card ( they got married in february) this going to be an issue ? I know you need to make a certain amount per household member but does this mean I would add to that household ? or is she still at the 2 person in a household mark ? meaning do i make it 3. I hope that's not confusing. thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it

It seems odd they would deny someone just because the petitioner was a former student and has a job that a a few months old I mean technically we have everything they asked for seeing as they don't ask that you be at your job for more than 6 months prior to petitioning or anything like that, and only ask for previous tax returns or a reason why you don't have them.
feanorMale02011-05-23 10:48:00
Canadaevidence of support
ughhh really they wouldn't approve it ? On the site it says if you can't show tax returns you need an explanation and it also says they need a letter from your employer which would obviously state that my fiancee works there and ( if she is under salary) plans to work there for at least the year.
feanorMale02011-05-23 10:24:00

True. The lack of tax returns is because she was a student and didn't hold a job. She didn't need to pay for school because her mom worked at this school long enough where she got tuition free. So she just got out of school a few weeks ago.

Yea well I mean it really is all down to the wire with us and has been the whole time,I think the poverty line for places outside of Hawaii and if your not in the military is a little over $18,000 ( I can't remember the link with the poverty numbers) so technically a job that pays $12 at 40 hours a week is enough.

CanadaWouldn't it be nice...
Wouldn't it be nice if we were older
Then we wouldn't have to wait so long
And wouldn't it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong

You know its gonna make it that much better
When we can say goodnight and stay together

Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through

Happy times together we've been spending
I wish that every kiss was neverending
Wouldn't it be nice

Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray it might come true
Baby then there wouldn't be a single thing we couldn't do
We could be married
And then we'd be happy

Wouldn't it be nice

You know it seems the more we talk about it
It only makes it worse to live without it
But lets talk about it
Wouldn't it be nice

Good night my baby
Sleep tight my baby
