Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Why are there no procedures for extending I-129F's and Medical Exams with Waivers?
What Tokyo said is all stated on their website...

The approved petition I-129 is valid for four months. In order to qualify for a K visa, you must apply for your visa before the end of this four months period. If you need more than four months to finalize your visa application, your petition must be extended for an additional four months. (The validity of the petition is noted in the Notice of Approval I-797 sent by USCIS to the US citizen petitioner or to the attorney assigned.)

In case you need to extend your petition, please ask your fiancé(e) to send a signed and dated letter, address to the “U.S. Consul" of the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo or U.S. Consulate in Naha by fax (Tokyo: 03-3224-5929 Naha: 098-876-4243) which reaffirms his/her interest in bringing you to the U.S. and request an extension of the validity of your petition for an additional four months. In the letter, your fiancé(e) must also include a reason why he/she would like an extension. As soon as we received this letter, we will normally extend the validity of your petition by four months.

Medical examinations conducted in connection with immigrant visa applications have a maximum validity of six months and must be valid when you enter the U.S. The consular officer shall limit the visa’s validity to a period of validity of the medical examination. If the alien cannot arrive in the United States within six months of the date of the medical examination, the alien must repeat the examination.

United Kingdomthe visa is on the way...now what?
Once he lands on the US soil, he needs to go to the citizen/returning resident line at the US immigration.
Then hand his passport and the do-not-open envelope to a CBP officer.
He will get his finger prints and facial picture taken and the officer will process papers in the envelope.

Congratulations and good luck!

At the immigration you need to provide your passport, the brown envelope and the custom form to the CBP officer.
I went to the citizens/returning residents line, and the only question I got was "So are you immigrating?"
Nothing more was asked/said, and papers were processed in a separate for 15 minutes or so.
That's it. Nothing special. It was so easy.

Does anyone know what the fee is at the consulate in Hong Kong? Visa fees for K3? I can't seem to find it on the website. Thanks.

It looks as if it is US$400/HK$3200 across the board for all family sponsored visas (including K-3) which is more than I would have expected.

http://hongkong.usco..._checklist.html

Fee for K3 at the interview is $131.
$400 is for CR1/IR1.

We have moon cakes in Japan as well!
They are of course originally from China, but were changed in a Japanese way.
No egg yolk inside and tastes a little different.

How is the interview in Tokyo? Do the interviewers speak Japanese? My fiance speaks very little English, will that be a problem?

As far as I know, they will ask your fiance which language (English or Japanese) she prefers at the beginning of the interview.
There wouldn't be any problem.
Good luck!

Asia: East and PacificInterviews at Tokyo Embassy???
I believe you checked the calender for I-130 petition.

Once NVC processing is done, they will inform your fiancee an interview date.
If the date is inconvenient for her, she can request an alternative date from the bottom of this page
http://tokyo.usembas...viewcheck2.html

Interviews are conducted only on Monday mornings. If Monday is a holiday, interviews for the week will be on Tuesday morning.

QUOTE (HelloMiffy @ May 12 2009, 11:49 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi all,
I have another question on changing or not changing my family name on Koseki. Is it OK if passport (Japanese registered) name is, for example, "Hanako Yamada (Smith)" and my green card's name is "Hanako Yamada Smith"? I wonder if anyone had any issues when you travelled in and out of the US by having two different names.
- Miffy

As long as you put in parenthesis your married name on your passport, you wouldn't have any problem.
A friend of mine who's done the same thing travelled back and forth between the US and Japan many times, but never had a problem.

An engagement party is not required, but it will be a strong bona fide evidence of your relationship especially when the party is expected in your culture.

Interesting... That gave me an idea: perhaps I could write $0.00 on my I-864 and include a footnote that says something to the effect of, "Please see my included federal tax return to see my foriegn-earned income before adjustment for US tax excemption."

I guess that will work perfectly!
Even it won't, I've got the impression you can correct information on the form at the embassy counter because a couple in front of me (at the petition) seemed to be making some changes on their forms.

BTW, I am moving back to the US in July as well smile.gif
I really wish a good luck!

#2: We listed only Japanese source of income on our I-864 at the time of the I-130 petition. The CO said a joint sponsor's income is good enough to meet the financial requirement.

So, on your I-864 you did NOT fill out the section on assets at all?
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks!

Yeah, we didn't fill out the section at all. We had savings both in the US and Japan, but thought it doesn't have any significant effect since the amount didn't meet the requirement (3 times the poverty line or something like that.)

Asia: East and PacificShipping Company Reccommendation from Japan?
I've got a quote from Economove Japan and Shipmates Worldwide Moving before.
I am not sure their services are good, but it was definitely cheaper than major companies like Kuroneko Yamato.
Reading posts in gaijinpot.com, those two seem to be good though.

We ended up using the Japan Post for two reasons.
1) Everything we ship fits in cardboard boxes.
2) We have to go pick up boxes from a port, that's 4 hours away from our place if we choose the moving company.
We could use their port-to-door service, but it was over our budget :-(
