I get the "oh, you guys will never last"

I feel like saying "why is it ok for you to tell me my marriage is doomed to fail? What if I told you that"

I think that couples, who go through this process and face the difficulties brought upon by these delays, are more likely to stay married happily since they will come to appreciate the times together by remembering the times spent apart...at least in most cases.

good.gif I agree!!
already worked hard together and conquered difficulties together thru Visa Journey.
if our relationship is weak, we never came to this point. smile.gif

QUOTE (e-migra @ Oct 29 2008, 11:47 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi!

It's SO funny (or not... wacko.gif ): everybody thinks that my husband and I are divorcing!!! Anytime I meet someone I know there's the exact same dialogue:

Person: "Hi! Aren't you at the States? What about your husband? How long are you staying in Portugal?"

Me: "No... He's in the States... I don't know, maybe 1 month, maybe 2, maybe 3..."

Person: "Ah..."

I see that look in everybody's face: "They are divorcing, I knew it! They're not even living together anymore! devil.gif "

It's hilarious!!!!! Does it happen to you too?

GOOD LUCK!

e-migra

It's very annoying.
I cannot believe they can be so lacking in delicacy. mad.gif

I just got visa and I haven't got that yet, but my husband
who is waiting for me in the States is often asked when
I am moving into the States. I have to take care of not
only packing but also my parent who is in hospital, etc...

Everyone has different situation. I often wonder why
they just don't mind their own business.
and we don't have to explain everything to them but they
get suspicious.

If someone tells me that kind of thing, I will just think,
oh, they are not happy about themselves and looking
for someone who is not happy so they feel better.

I had my interview on Nov 4. I paid delbros but did not text them coz I lost my cp a day before the interview. So I used the online Shipment Tracking service to check status of my visa delivery. I type in MNL2008****01, but nothing comes out. Im not sure if its working.

Anyhoo, I got my visa just now and i am just so happy. Thank you all for the information i got from here. We all get so paranoid at times thinking about what will turn out of our visa application but nothing beats being ready and armed when the interview comes.

Goodluck to everyone!!

the staff received my medical doc in a huge sealed envelope.
she opened, took a look at them, returned me Xray in the

she said, you cleared w medical ck.
please take this Xray with you when you go to the States.

Hope you don't mind me asking a question...
The passport photos you took to the interview - are these in addition to the two you sent in with DS-230?

Domo arigatooooo!!

That's right.
I turned in additional 2 passport size picture of myself
@ US embassy in Tokyo just before my interview.
Although, I had already sent them my passport size pictures
with DS-230 a few months ago...

I thought I didn't have to at first. I had extra picts so
I just turned them in without asking them. Maybe you can
ask them if you really need to. If you have to turn picts in addition
you can still take picts @ the machine inside embassy.

>I already filed most of doc, so I just put my picts, passport,
>ExPack* and med doc + Xray.

never took that many passport picts before.
I had to take one for medical check!

so basically, those 2 pictures, the last 2 pictures you turn in,
will be on your VISA.
I recommend you to have pictures ready so you have less things
to worry about. just my opinion... happy.gif

Thank you so much for getting back to me so promptly! My case is for my mom, 67-year old Japanese woman, doesn't speak a word of English! Anyway, you and your husband's posts are full of excellent information, I am so glad that you've decided to share them with us all.

Wishing you many, many happy days ahead!

Michiko

Thank you so much.

oh, how gutsy your mother is!!

I forgot putting this info...

They will also give you a small ziplock kinda plastic bag.
You need to prepare two passport size picture, on back of
those pictures, you need to write your name in full in
capital letters, and put them into the bag.

At the beginning of my interview, I was asked if I could
understand English, I said ... uh..yes.
I just wonder what if I said nop...
But they never said, understanding English is necessary condition
so, I think there is nothing for you to worry about.
I saw some Japanese people in their 60-70s in the waiting room.
I should've talked to them...

Say big hello to your mother aka gutsy woman! star_smile.gif

There is room with about 75 chairs facing torward
the interview counter,
5 chairs X 5 lows X three, and some more by the wall.

There is Photo Machine for those who forgot bringing
passport picts. costs 1,000yen, get pict taken wait for
30 sec, you have picts!
They have a few pict cutter there.

Those two passport size picts you turn in, are used
for VISA pict, so make sure you like your pict! content.gif

I didn't have to show them any though I had
some picts and phone bills ready.
I could slide the huge envelope including X-ray,
but I don't think you can slide a thick photo album.

Actually there is no such thing,,, I mean,
you just stand at counter and talk with embassy staff thru
glass with microphone which is already set there,
like currency exchange booth!?

There are 10 counters, and 6 of them
were open at 8:30am and later they had 8 open.

There is a small space at counter where you can
slide doc, and it is about 3cm high and 25cm wide.

[Interview Day] EXPACK

No matter what doc you've already filed,
I think every applicant is required to bring Expack500.

It is self-stamped (stamp is printed) envelope, 500yen.
It has tracking number and treated as registered mail.

DO NOT peel off the sticker with tracking #,
it is for Sender-US embassy, not yours.

WRITE DOWN the tracking # so you can check how soon
you'll get your passport back. (with VISA)

Tokyo, Japan / NOV 04, 2008

7:40
left my place. (Ebisu, Shibuyaku, Tokyo)

8:00
got off from a cab @ 3 blocks away from US embassy.
usually within a radius of about 500 meters from
US embassy is kinda restriction area. Japanese policemen
are standing at every corner and ask you for your ID and
purpose of going there.

8:05
called Ling Ling.

8:15
arrived @ US embassy, showed my ID and got in a line for
security check.
got a basket, put ALL electric devices in it.
cellphone, music player...

8:17
There were 6 people in front of me. there is a small room
for security check and saw a few people were already being
checked.

8:20
Went thru security check point w no problem.
Went to a reception desk, they had my name and gave me
a form and clear case to file doc.
Noticed my interview is for CR-1.
Got my paging number. #207. I think the first person got #200
or #201.

8:25
Got a chair, filled out the form. My name, address, phone number,
address / phone number in the US. The form also tells us to place
documents in order. #1 : 2x passport picts, #2: passport.........
I already filed most of doc, so I just put my picts, passport,
ExPack* and med doc + Xray.
Xray and med were in a huge envelope so actually I could not put
that in the clear file... It's about 12"x12", so I had it in my record vinyl
bag, perfect size.

8:30
First 5 numbers got called.
There were five counters and 4 of them were closed at that point.

8:40
My number got called.
Went to counter #4 and the staff (Japanese) made sure I had all the
doc I needed.
At first, she could not find the doc I already fined @ NVC.
My husband already confirmed and gave the date and person's name
who signed. Oct 17 by DHL arrived @ US embassy in Tokyo.,,
She asked her boss and took my doc from a drawer. (whew...)
She told me to go back and wait.

8:48
Went to counter #3 and got my fingerprints scanned by American staff.
All ten fingers. Then took seat again.

9:25
Went to counter #8 for INTERVIEW!
An American staff (lady in her 40s I suppose) asked me some questions
like Ling Ling wrote the other day.
didn't have to show them proof of relationship...
She smiled and said congratulations, and gave me a sheet of paper.
I didn't understand at first but she said congratulations so oh I'm getting
visa!

10:00
Went back to security and pick up my phone and such, and left.
Called Ling Ling - hubbiE on the way to metro station.
I was excited without knowing or something and took wrong street...
Arrived at station and took metro going back to my place.
I noticed, that paper, both sides printed she handed it to me this side up,
Portuguese and Spanish... flipped over then I found English and Japanese!
and it says...
"You have completed the interview portion of your application and visa has been approved."
I had big smile on my face. good.gif
