US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSome Q's on the Green Card
QUOTE (milimelo @ Jun 9 2009, 10:36 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Visa is activated at entering the US through POE - as such is good for a year as a temporary green card until the real GC arrives approximately a month later.

The issuing authority is USCIS. www.uscis.gov

No way to speed to the process of issuing the GC - simply use the stamped visa that is your temp GC. if you need to travel or to prove you can work.

thank you for your answer. my husbands family is planning a cruise in August and strangely enough the cruise guy told them that Mexico needs the actual GC to let me in... they won't recognize the stamp blink.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSome Q's on the Green Card
Hey guys, I had a couple of questions:

- When does the alien spouse get the Green Card? I've heard he/she should get it in a month or so, but is it a month after passing the Interview or a month after the POE? Also, is there anyway one can speed up the process of getting the Green Card? And the last one: Who issues the Green Card?

Thanks in advance for your help! smile.gif

hi everyone! first, i just wanted to say that i wish i had known about this website sooner!! its so helpful and informative thanks to all you guys sharing your experiences. ive been reading for the past few days and learned a lot of stuff i had no idea before.
ok, now on to my question. my husband received the NOA2 on Feb 26th. and i was just wondering about the 'NVC journey'. on average, how long does this process last until you get the interview date appointed? ive been trying to figure it out by looking at the timelines but its kinda confusing. in some cases it lasts 3 months, some others 7 months and for others its only a matter of days. maybe it is a dumb question...if it is, im sorry innocent.gif thank you.

It could take a feww weeks to several months at NVC for Ds,3032, Ds 230 and I-864. All depends whether u will have RFE/AP or not. After the case is completed, it also depends on the capacity of that the embassy could hold interview that months.
some could get right away in sme month, some takes more than 5 months.

just Have patience and gather all documents u'll need for NVC.

I apologize for the ignorance, but what is RFE/AP? And also, is it better if we call the NVC from time to time to ask if they got our application and stuff like that - as I've read some people do - or should we just let them do their own thing?
And one last question: at this point in our process, according to your experiences is the worst part behind us or the worst is yet to come?

RFE = Request for evidence (if they need more info) or you made a mistake on a form.

AP = Additional processing - more security checks (FBI/State)

I would not call NVC unless your past the projected time listed on your NOA2. Can you imagine if the thousands of people doing this just "called" time to to time?

They are very skilled in this process and usually handle it in a timely manner. Only worry if your past the average time.

Hmmm - seems most people have issues at the interview/medical. I'm sure if you do a search here, you can see the posts. (also, when you find a post, say about denial for medical, it will list "like" posts below so you can read more).

Good luck!

Thank you so much for clearing this up for me and for the advice. Good luck to you too!

the speed at which you can get through the NVC portion depends alot on you and how prepared you are for the steps. on this site at the top you will see the WIKI link. there are shortcuts to making the NVC portion very fast. the key is to be prepared for the next step before it comes. The first thing you need to do is get your NVC case number and then call NVC to see if your DS-3032 has been generated. Once it is don't wait for NVC to send the hard copy to you, send it via E-mail using the temp plate in the shortcuts.

Thank you very much for your advice! Greatly appreciate it!

So you can be in AP even after your case is complete?? I thought that happened (if it was gonna happen) only while you were at NVC...not after the interview.... and why wouldn't they tell you before?? this is so messed up....

A chimpanzee can get a NOA2 - "case complete" as you have phrased it.

It's at the consulate where things can go differently.

NOA2 and case complete at NVC are two different things

Doesn't change the facts.

All you are doing before you get to the consulates is pushing papers.

pushing papers? i wouldn't say so...

Maybe I am wrong, however I think I am correct after reading lots of comments over the past 2 weeks. I have also noticed that ppl whose case were completed before May 15, 2009 are now getting verbal notices form NVC's operator. My case was completed May 21, '09 and was told to call next week (June 8-16) for interview date. You can respond if my information is correct or incorrect. kicking.gif

I sure hope you're right!!
My case was completed May 14th and also have predicted my interview to be in July according to VJ timelines. So yeah...I think your observation is right smile.gif Good Luck!

Wow, I can't believe this...I had never even heard about this dowry business until now, but I gotta say it's really messed up!
Marriage is an act of love, a sacred union of two people becoming one...out of LOVE, not a lousy transaction!!! And don't tell me "it's tradition, respect it"... not all traditions are good. and this one is revolting!
I am really sorry Shanti for what has happened to you. I don't have any advice for you because you were already given great advice by more experienced members. All I wanted to say is that I think you are doing a brave but smart thing by choosing to not go through with your marriage. I wish you the best of luck! I hope you succeed and have the life you deserve!

Greetings from Albania!
