PhilippinesAll Pinays in Texas...
QUOTE (rockhouse @ Jun 25 2009, 02:44 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hey gals, my finacee will be living here with me in Texas when she arrives from Cebu. I was wondering how all of you Filipinas that live in Texas like it.
Does the weather seem ok, have you spent a brutal Texas summer here yet? We don't really get much snow, and the winters are generally mild, so you may not feel too cold here. Tank tops and flip flops are the norm here for 9 months out of the year.
We have beaches here, not as nice as PI, but beaches none the less. We have many lakes and rivers, and because the weather is so warm here there is alot of water-sports to get involved in, (wakeboard, wakeskate, ski, swim, boating, etc.).
There are lot's of good fishing spots, so we have a good variety of fresh seafood.
The Spanish influence can be seen and felt through town's names, the food, people's last names, etc.
There are lot's of Hispanics here, so the black hair/eyes, and brown skin doesn't stand out at all.
All in all i think Texas is a great cross-over from the PI.....am i right ladies?
Salamat Yall!

I have lived in the Austin area for more then 15 years. It is a great place and there are many Filipinos in the area, in fact I
had two working for me at one point in time in the computer field. The Filipinos seem to adjust well to any environment.

But, I think they will not know they are moving to a great place... As, it is often stated, "I was not born in Texas. But, I got here as soon as I could". Texans have a pride for the State that you will not see elsewhere.

My Wife is a Registered Nurse and should be here in September as our case just finished at the NVC...

Any other Filipino Nurses,, that are making the transition to Texas,,, with a K1 K2 or IR/CR1?

PhilippinesPlane Ticket
QUOTE (DouglasFiel @ Dec 2 2009, 10:02 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Take a look at www.sidestep.com (it checks multiple sites for you)... and use dates flexible to check fares for plus/minus three days. It can make a several hundred dollar difference just flying a day earlier/later.

Also, be careful when checking fares,,, if you are checking several search engines,,, it will appear that the fares are going up. It is because, each site will temporarily reserve the seats,,, and the supply/demand rules may make the next search return higher fares... If this is the case, wait 20-30 mins before trying again.

Once you find the fares you want,,, book directly with the airline... This way if you have an issue,,, it will be easier to resolve.

Regards,

FYI... I checked for a flight date of 12/13... I used www.sidestep.com and another site I have looked at before www.bing.com/travel.

www.bing.com/travel put together a much better fare,,, combining Cathay Pacific and United Airlines... MNL to AUS for $740.. great price.

Good Hunting,

hi there! i just want to ask if we could bring and used either GLOBE/SMART sim and activated it as a roaming sim? if we already in the US? any idea?

If it is a pre-paid plan. Possibly if they have an agreement with a US Carrier. Would most likely be cheaper to get a sim card from T-Mobile for about $10
and then do pre-paid card $100... Will cost you 10 cents per minute... And the minutes are good for a year.

PhilippinesCR1 visa processing

Hello my fellow vjiers,

I just want to ask cause im wondering if what happens already to my processing of CR1 visa. isnt it still valid even thou your petitioner was already died ? even i have already the NOA1. I can still go to US? cause its been 4months since we filed my petition and until now i didnt get yet any feedback from our lawyer who work with our papers.

Please help me. God bless

The law changed last October... I believe the answer is YES... You can still immigrate.

Please read...

http://www.uscis.gov...00045f3d6a1RCRD

A paragraph from that link.

Pending Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative

As of October 28, 2009, any pending Form I-130 that was filed on a widow(er)’s behalf prior to the citizen spouse’s death will automatically convert to a widow(er)’s Form I-360, Petition for Amerasian, Widow(er), or Special Immigrant, so long as, on the date of the citizen spouse’s death, they qualified as an immediate relative under the INA and the FY2010 DHS Appropriations Act. Additionally, any Form I-130 that has been the subject of litigation in any Federal court on the issue of the effect of the petitioner’s death is reopened for a new decision as of December 2, 2009, the date of issuance of the USCIS implementing directive. USCIS will identify those cases that are the subject of litigation that was pending on October 28, 2009. Once a case is identified, USCIS will notify the widow(er) in writing that their Form I-130 has been reopened and adjudicated as a Form I-360, Petition for Amerasian, Widow(er), or Special Immigrant. Eligibility for classification as an immediate relative ceases if the widow(er) remarries.

Also from the Q & A..

Questions & Answers

Q. If my U.S. citizen spouse has passed away, and I do not have a petition pending with USCIS, how do I obtain status as a widow(er)?

A. If your U.S. citizen spouse died on or after October 28, 2009, you will have two years from the date of the citizen spouse’s death to file a Form I-360 petition. If your U.S. citizen spouse died before October 28, 2009, and you did not have a Form I-130 pending on October 28, 2009, you have until October 28, 2011, to file a Form I-360, Petition for Amerasian, Widow(er), or Special Immigrant for you and your unmarried minor children

Q. As a widow(er) of a U.S. citizen, am I required to submit a Form I-864, Affidavit of Support?

A. No. Under the INA, a widow(er) of a citizen and his or her accompanying children are not required to submit Form I-864, Affidavit of Support.

Also, keep in mind,, there may be fee waivers available,,, and,,, ability to collect Social Security once you migrate.

PhilippinesCFO - Manila, forms to bring???
Cause the Phillipines,,, wants to make sure the parents know what their daughter is up to. Joking,,, kinda...

Make sure you have two things the Notarized parental consent to marry,, and a letter from the parents permitting their daughter
to travel abroad with the purpose to marry.

Even though we were married,,, we had to provide both of these items.

PhilippinesNCLEX while on AOS for Pinay on K1

Hello everyone! I'm Aes..... I assume there have been a lot of pinay nurses who are already in the US now. My questions are:

1. Can I apply and take the NCLEX while I am on my AOS?
2. Can a pinay nurse, without the NCLEX yet, be able to get a job, even if not as a nurse yet, but somehow related to healthcare?
3. I do not have clinical experience yet since I just graduated last year, and I have been attending to my mom who is sick while on the process of our K1 petition, will I be able to get a job easily? Or hospitals do really require experience from the Philippines?

Thank you for all of you who would be kind to respond to my questions. We are still on the process of our K1, since I had scars in my lungs, reason that I had to undergo the sputum examinations and wait for 8 long weeks (when in fact sputum culture would only take 3-4 days). Yeah it is bitter that I had to undergo this, considering during the whole medical process, no patient history taking was done. If they did, they would have known why I have scars ( I had them since the first time I had my x-ray and TB was already ruled out).

Right now, while waiting for the results come Feb of this year, I want to prepare myself on the what-to-do's to practice my profession in the US, so as to help my fiance in building our lives and dreams together.

Thank you for taking time to read my post. HappyNew Year!

Need to check with the State Board of Nursing for the requirements.

If you are from Texas... The answer is yes. Even a SSN is not needed to start the paperwork.

Need to...

1. Validate her credentials.. We used www.eres.com in California. Takes about a month or so. (Need to have her transcripts send directly from the PI University)
++ Maybe $325
2. Validate her RN License if licensed in PI. Needs to be sent to ERES and/or Texas BON.
3. Register with NCLEX
++ $200
4. Send Application to Texas BON
++ $139
5. Submit Fingerprints to Texas BON
++ Maybe $15
6. Texas BON -- Gives ATT (Authorization to Test to Pearson Vue)
7. Schedule and Take NCLEX Test
8. If she passes,, in Texas she will need 120 hours of Clinicals and 120 hours of Foreign Nurse education and take the Texas
Jurisprudence test to get her RN License.
9. If she fails,,, she can resubmit the Texas Application $139 and re-register for the NCLEX $200... And re-take the test in 50 days.

Note: Several states... you need to go through the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS)... http://www.cgfns.org/
which adds a bit more money and additional testing before you can take the NCLEX.

Also, Texas does not require english testing for students that attend Nursing Education in english and text books in english.

We are in the middle of this process in Texas. I am planning to relocate to the midwest,,, but, will get her licensed in Texas because of
the additional hurdles required (CGFNS) for the mid-west states of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.

As far as experience, once she gets the RN License she will be competing for a job like everyone else,,, except she will have a BSN whereas
most USA grads are only 2 years grads,, So, she should be a preferential hire.

I assume you are applying for a fiancee visa... May take 6 to 9 months... Change her name in the PI (Cheaper and Easier),,, will be expensive and almost impossible to change the name with the Immigration paperwork involved... Or just leave the name as is... The immigration process is not easy or cheap.

Better start reading, reading, reading and asking lots of questions... Start with the following link.. Look at K-1 visa.

PhilippinesCheapest "One Way" ticket
Out on the net looking at http://www.upgradetravelbetter.com... they have an article "Disaggregating fare aggregators 2009: Which airfare comparison sites are the best?"

Their analysis...

So which aggregator came out on top in 2009? Here’s the summary, with site-by-site reviews thereafter…

Overall best bet: TripAdvisor Flights. Low fares, good features, a solid performer overall. It took them a while to join the game, but it’s a strong product with a small but important edge over its closest competitor, Kayak.

Tried TripAdvisor.com for a Wednesday in February... Returned a flight for $715... MNL-OMA.

Just another one to check out.

PhilippinesCheapest "One Way" ticket

It seems like when I check Philippine Airline's website for Cebu to LAX, SFO or LAS that they are charging an arm and a leg (approx 1,000 dollars) for a one way flight. That's ridiculous considering I can manage to fly from Omaha to Cebu and back for 300 dollars more then that.
Where is the best place to look for one way flights from Cebu to the USA? She needs to be able to fly into Omaha as well.

I am in Sioux City,,,

Try www.sidestep.com or www.bing.com...

I usually use sidestep and do,, plus or minus 3 days. jan 20th is $830 for Continental Airlines MNL-OMA (That is what we used).
Guam and Hawaii are good points of entry. Low volume. With Continental it seems you can get short notice tickets for about
the same price. And you can book online from here.

Note: Do NOT use a Filipino travel agency unless you can pay with a credit card. Too many scammers out there. If possible book
directly with the airline.

Note: The advise about flying from Cebu to Manila is good advice, Most airlines do not have routes that include Cebu. Again,
let her book the ticket locally with PAL or Cebu Pacific, Should be less then $50. We flew from Dipolog via PAL for about $45.

Philippinespassport with visa wait times question.
She passed otherwise no Air21.... We interviewed in Manila (August) and received Air21 visa/passport delivery on Wednesday (In metro Manila)...
Air21 sent text message on Tuesday stating they would deliver on Wednesday.

So, basically the delivery depends mostly on when the Passport/Visa is available to Air21. I think should be less then 7 days in Metro Manila.

Philippinesif you are shopping online for airline tickets, read this
This is because,,, all of the airlines have a specific number of seats for sale at the lower price point... As you use different search engines to look for flights,,, Those seats are pulled from inventory for 20-30 minutes,,, In case you buy them. Otherwise the search engine fares would not be valid for purchase. After a prefefined time limit. They will be back available at the previous price.

Moral of the story, go ahead and search,, but, if prices start to creep up,, wait 30 mins or so and then purchase. I have heard of others buying tickets at inflated prices because of this,,, and then checking again a few hours after the purchase and the fares dropping back down.

I book maybe 20 t0 30 flights a year,, and I see this pricing model repeated over and over.

PhilippinesBooking plane tickets for your fiance
We Purchased directly w/Continental.

There is a travel tax for Filipino Citizens of 1620p... Booth in the main lobby. You will also have to pay a 750p terminal
fee once you head toward the gate and before you pass thru immigration. I purchased the ticket via credit card and she
had no problem at the airport.

Baggage... Should be able to check 2 bags each weighing a maximum of 23kg without excess baggage charges. I did see
another counter for shipping extra bags for less in the main airport lobby. We were fine with the luggage.

Note: Other have suggested that she have a photocopy of your credit card used for the purchase...

Also, other then the POE in the USA... She should be able to pass through any connecting airports (Ie. China) without issue
since she will never actually go through their immigration. She will only be in the transfering passenger portion of the airport.

Even Passengers passing through the USA to get to other international destinations,,, do not have to have a USA Visa.

PhilippinesSomething wrong with my fiance's visa
If it were me,,, I would just use the visa as is... There should be nothing to cause concern at the POE... If they ask just be honest,,, you filed the address change. But, I doubt they will even ask. The airline did not give my wife boarding passes to the final destination... Only part way... And I had her fly into an airport that was 900 miles away from our home address... They never questioned it.

My thoughts are... 1. Your fiancee would have to go back to Manila... 2. Not sure they would change the VISA address based upon her statement... 3. May cause a delay...

Regarding airline ticket name,,, You might want to call the airline and talk to a supervisor if needed... They can re-issue the ticket,, for a name change,,, as it needs to match the passport... I checked with the airline I use,, American, they said,, as long as it all American Airlines flights they can do it immediately, If it involves another airline as well,,, it will take a bit of time as they need to request the name change through the secondary airline,,, but, once that is complete. The ticket will be re-issued in the married name.

PhilippinesCooking in the US?
You need to think of the PI like the USA.. I grew up in Iowa and you can't find grits and collared greens and stuff like that common in the South... So,, even thought there are basic Filipino foods that are common to all Filipinos.. Some are local. My wife is from Zamboanga by the ocean. She has been here 6 months,,, and we can get several fish and leafy vegetables that she likes here,,, but, even though we have large Asian food stores here with maybe a dozen different fish, a full butcher section and large section of vegetables, fruits, etc,,, Still can't get Manila Mangos, New Coconut, etc... But, she does not complain,,, just knows what she is missing,,

Bottom Line Your Mileage Will Vary, no matter where you go in this world,,, something will be missing. I suspect.. She would give up Filipino food, if she could have her mother here.

? Completed and unsigned form DS-230, Part 2
? Four Passport-sized photographs of the beneficiary
? NSO - Certified birth certificate of the beneficiary

? Original Certified NBI police certificate(s) /local police clearances of the beneficiary

? NSO - Certified birth certificate of the beneficiary
? NSO - Certified marriage certificate of the beneficiary and the petitioner
? Original Certified NBI police certificate(s) /local police clearances of the beneficiary
? Photocopy of the biographic data page of the beneficiary's passport

Also,,,

We had a copy of all documents (for the interview) sent in support of the I-130 and NVC processing.

Although all documentation sent should be in the packet the Manila Consulate receives... Better to have

Note: You are still a citizen of the Philippines, you will need all visa's normally required by a Filipino to travel to the mentioned countries. However, having US Resident status will enable you to get a visa much easier.

PhilippinesTiming on Medical, Interview, and CFO
Medical takes two days,,, they will sent results and her passport to the embassy. That is why people are saying 5 days.

Although it is possible to attend the CFO before she gets the visa... Most usually wait until they have visa in hand.

99.9% probability she will not be able to get her visa and passport back directly from the consulate... I was there for
5 days, attended the interview,,, and still they would not give it to us.. She flew back one day after I left.

Therefore, if she is still in a Manila hotel might take 3 days,, Let say interview Monday, Air21 gets the passport/visa
on Tuesday and delivers Wednesday.

CFO can take a whole day... If you do it early,,, Will still need to go back and get the stamp after you receive the visa.

Ours...

Medical Mon/Tue week one
Interview Mon week two
Visa Received Wed week two
CFO Thu Week two
Travel to USA Mon Week three

im also told that she doesnt need parental consent or anything to get married although the us embassy websites say that.....she is 20,21 in september.and my father and a friend plan on going to the phils at the sametime as i unless i get the money to go sooner.....but from filipinos im best friends with here in the states and other people i know told me she doesnt not even need to let her parents know that she is getting married let alone getting consent.also how much is a cheap church wedding?i know that sounds bad.but we wont have many people there and she isnt worried now about what is all at the wedding but the fact we will get married.

She needs a parent consent. That is one of the requirement to file for the marriage contract. I was 22 when i married my husband last year.
I even need a parents written permission to travel when i got my stamp for the CFO.
