CanadaPlanning your life around Montreal

Yes, Montreal means an interminably long wait and all kinds of trials. But once you're there, it's a magical, romantic place, so plan to enjoy the shopping, museums, smoked meat, and wine!

And poutine! Do not forget the POUTINE!! Oh...and St. Viateur bagels and and and The Biodome and Notre Dame Basilica!
And Old Montreal and the Old Port and ohhhhhhhh I miss Montreal SOOOOOOOO much! I lived there all of my life....

I do honestly understand everyone's disppointment with the Montreal Consulate though, and yes, they are over-worked because the wait times there weren't always as long as they are now.
Keep the faith, peeps! (L)

It's gotta be a regional rather than a Canadian thing then, because I'm from Montreal and have never heard of a "gift-opening get-together thing". lol
Far as I know, bride and groom opened their gifts at their leisure.

CanadaThe Canuck Clearinghouse Thread

Sorry for the confusion.......I had explained it more in the other thread. My concern...if I get the medical done in Montreal, they told me that the results would be ready in 2 days. Therefore, I can get tick off everything on my checklist and send it in. Then make the medical appt. a few days before the Interview. Just wondering if any body else out there got their medical done the same week as their Interview date. Both the Montreal Consulate and the Doctor's office in Montreal confirmed this. Wouldn't want to anything to jeopardize Bruce and I getting together (L) (like late medical results...............Thanks.............{{{{{HUGS}}}}}

Marie when I had my K-1 interview almost 3 years ago, I actually had my medical on the very same day. It appears that things have changed since then but because of my experience, I'd tend to believe that you will indeed get your result in the 2 days they say.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionNeed to file seperate I-751 for wife and each child?

If the AOS was approved within 90 days of your wife they can be included on the same I-751. Otherwise, they will need to file three I-751s and pay three fees.

If your child received conditional resident status within 90 days of when you did, then your child may be included in your application to remove the conditions on permanent residence. Your child must file a separate application if your child received conditional resident status more than 90 days after you did.

Oooh THAT'S good to hear! I was thinking I'd have to pay for 2 fees for my daughter and I!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionVermont is on the move again....

I got my NOA and biometrics this morning. The biometrics didn't ask for any pictures to take with me so who knows if they'll send me out to get some

Anyway, hope it starts moving for others too!

Glad to hear this! Since I'll be sending in my I-751 at the beginning of December too.
By the way, didn't you send passport pics in with your application to lift conditions, anyway?
And when we had biometrics done for our AOS, they took our photo with a computer and digital thingy (as well as the fingerprints...
I'm assuming it'll be the same again, no? :)

I should get mine soon then too (sent to VSC on 10/29).

Question though. How long until your biometrics appointment? Do they give it to you or do you use InfoPass to schedule. Reason I ask is because my husband is about to leave (Nov. 1) for 6 weeks overseas for work. It's not something he can delay. Anyone have any experience with rescheduling?

Melissa

Hey Melissa! (L)

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWhen to Expect NOA1?
Ok, does anyone know exactly when this fee change came into effect?
I sent off my I-751 the beginning of this month. I sent it "return receipt requested" and that came back to me last week telling me that the director of services for the Vermont Service Center accepted my documents on Dec. 7th, 2006.
I sent only a 205$ check for the processing fee but my check still has not been cashed. (which has worried me a bit)
I'm guessing that those who sent their I-751 before the change came into effect will not be asked for further fees but the question is: What exactly is that date?

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion$275 fee check has been cashed by USCIS 12/29/06

As you probably know, I sent my package on 12/19/06 to Vermont with a check for $275.00
I was expecting it back, given other's experience, but they cashed it on 12/29/06.
I don't have the NOA yet, though.

It certainly IS confusing!

Even more so for me - add the fact that my I-751 was received on Dec. 7th by VSC and they haven't cashed my check yet?!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionTrouble sending out NOA?
I called the hotline today to see what was up with my NOA not being sent to me (VSC received my I-751 on Dec. 7th). She took my and my daughter's A numbers and verified address and tel. no. and gave me a confirmation number. I was told the proverbial "If you haven't heard anything in 30 days, then call us back with the confirmation number". Well 30 days from now will just leave 2 weeks before my green card expires and I can't allow that to happen...so I'll make an InfoPass appointment as well as a back-up to get a stamp in my passport so I don't have to worry about stopping work.

Oh this is just great.
I guess I now know why I haven't yet received my NOA despite VSC having received my I-751 forms at the beginning of December.
Guess this means taking the morning off of work on Monday to call VSC myself as well so i'm sure to get a NOA before my green card expires in less than a month and a half...
Damn USCIS, man, if it isn't one thing it's another....

Thanks for the heads up, doctorvtec!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWhat's Next

It is two months since the day I sent the whole package to Vermont Center. They promptly cashed out my personal check, but I still haven't heard anything from the Office (i.e. no receipt number or anything). What am I supposed to do next since my wife GC will be expired in the next 15-17 days? Does any one have any suggestions for me? Thank you very much.

I would suggest that your wife call the USCIS hotline first thing in the morning and inform them that VSC hasn't sent you a NOA yet. They will inform VSC and put a match under their butt hopefully. I'm in the same boat - VSC got my package on Dec. 7th and I've heard nothing since. So I called USCIS yesterday.

I would ALSO suggest, seeing as your wife's green card will expire very soon that you ALSO make an InfoPass appointment so that they can stamp your wife's passport with an extension on her green card...
Mine expires on March 7th and if I still havent heard from VSC when it's 3 weeks before expiring, then I'll be making an InfoPass appointment myself.
Good luck!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionNo receipt after two months

IN the mailbox, Marilyn, as many have posted. I made a little card with the names of all the mail that can be delivered to my address and taped it inside the box.
Ask your mail carrier for a card from their office as well. There is an official thingie you can fill in to say whose mail may be delivered to your box.

But of course, since you won't believe a word I say, why do I bother? ;)

Thanks, sparks. I'll save my typing too, then.

ok sorry... I had just seen people mention that the name was needed on the box....

thanks for the info...

I believe the name is needed on the box in rural areas only (e.g. where the houses are very far apart from each other and outside city limits). In urban/suburban areas, you only need the number.

Kinda like where I live up in these har Blue Ridge Mountinz, Marilyn...lol.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 my first notice from VA!
Nope, as I said I sent just the one check so it looks like I'm getting screwed around again by USCIS.
I had to get a senator involved when I applied for my AP and EAD way back when....never received it after like 7 months!

Anyway, thank you for your reply....lol...wish I was you.

Hi
they received my papers on the 24th,
and today I got the receipt they cashed the money...
Actually I sent one fee 275 , the new fee.

one single western union money order...and the receipt was for both biometrics and application..I noticed one fee had a " manual receipt" words by it...

so I don't know ...maybe when people send two different checks, they have to process two receipts, and god knows where each one comes from...

so now, basically I am on waiting mode...for the biometrics...

Monica

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionIdiots.

So, we bought a house about a month ago, and we filled out and submitted the AR-11 and the change of address online. But you can't do an electronic I-865 yet, so I filled that out (on the computer, it's a PDF) and printed it and sent it. Today I got the NOA.

It has the wrong address. I live at 12345 Summer Ave. The NOA lists the address as (and was sent to) 12345 Summit Ave.

Now, lest you think this is a problem with my handwriting, the form was *typed*. Obviously someone was reading it and entering the data and read the name wrong, or else someone else was reading it out loud and the person entering the data mis-heard.

Obviously my town doesn't *have* a 12345 Summit Ave, because I did get my NOA. So the question is: do I re-do the I-865 or leave it be?

The NOA does say to notify in writing if the address is wrong.

I'd send them a notice in writing...just to be sure, ya know?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionReceipt Notice and NOA1
Erekose, the wait time for NOA 1 is SO varied from person to person, unfortunately (especially when dealing with the VSC), so it's hard to say. There are some who wait a week or two and then there are others like me who waited almost 2 MONTHS.
I'm not sure, but I seem to remember that USCIS prefers not to send any correspondence to a P.O. Box, they'd rather your house address if you have one...
Good Luck in your new home!

They only took one index finger print at my biometrics. I do get carded a lot but I'm sure they knew my real age....

Hehe :hehe:

Yeah but you went to an ASC in St. Albans or thereabouts for your biometrics, right? I can understand inconsistency from state to state as to how they do biometrics...but Scott and I both went to the very same ASC. And just within a month of each other to boot...lol.

Meh, this is USCIS we're talking about after all, eh? They don't know the meaning of the word "consistent".

Just for the record, I had my biometrics done today at the Alexandria, Virginia ASC. The prints and photo.
All went fine despite my worries. But....Scott...
what made YOU so special that they only took your one index print, huh?
They took all ten of my prints just as pixie had done and just as everyone who was there at the ASC had done as far as I could see.
With one exception - my daughter had only her one index print taken...as did all the other minors who were there...
Are you sure they have your age right?

I guess all I can do is try my best to take care of my hands for the next few days at least, hard as that may be.
And then hope for the best when I go for the biometrics. Wouldn't you know it, I got a damn cut on my thumb yesterday too - but at least it's on the top where I don't have fingerprints....lol.
I'll let you know how it goes on Friday.

I've been to that Alexandria office before - when I went for biometrics for my AOS almost 2 years ago. But my husband was allowed to come in with me then...you mean he isn't allowed to now? My daughter will be allowed of course as she is a permanent resident as well and is lifting conditions too, so she has to have biometrics done.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWondering about fingerprinting....
My daughter and I have our biometrics appointment this Friday the 16th.
I'm a maid at a 5-star inn so my hands are very hard-worked/rough/dry/calloused/cracked from all the cleaners I use and from plain hard work.
I try my best to keep them moisturized with lotion etc. but it's not always easy. And working with rubber gloves on makes my job quite difficult at times.
I'm afraid that I might get turned away because my fingerprints can't be taken properly or something like that, ya know?
It's a 2 hour drive each way to the ASC and I'd hate like hell to go all that way only to be sent back home again.
Think I'm worrying for nothing and/or having any suggestions?
