PhilippinesThe irony...
I was really shocked at how many filipinos dont swim when i visited there. I was swimming all around out in the deep blue water, checkin out all the badass coral and fish. They have such an awesome world of wonder right out their backyards, but dont seem to take advantage! I think maybe not wanting to get real dark skinned keeps them from going into the water and sun for long periods, so they never spend enough time in it to learn.
Hopefully my love will learn quickly and learn to enjoy it as much as we do! And anyway, the dark skin is rather sexy to me!

Living in Texas it is a necessity to know how to swim as it gets so darn hot here! Also, i want to teach her to wakeboard when she gets here....so how many of you pinay's can swim? And to the ones that learned once they got here, was it easy for you to learn? Im just curious...thanx yall! smile.gif

I thank American women for taking care of the kids even as she has a career just as demanding as her husband.

I thank American women for taking care of the kids after divorcing even as she has a career just as demanding as her ex-husband.

I'm ashamed of American men who say "I want custody of my kids" on the way out the front door only to return to pick up the kids every other weekend. (I advocate joint custody, 1 week with mom and 1 week with dad and no support payments... gives mom a life... gives the kids a real dad.)

I'm ashamed of America men who leave their first family only to start a second family and then fall short with time and financial support because of the second family.

Okay, some American men might jump on me for they didn't do this or haven't done it yet (way to go!!!). I think the statistics concerning this issue are in my favor, however.

There is a lot of negative that could be said about both American men and American women - the above negative is what disturbs me the most about America men or any other man in the world. Even in the face of divorce, kids that you created should always be primary in one's life, put above everything else for they are our future. Kids need more than every other weekend from their father.

Again, thanks to American women and women all over the world for taking care of our children.

I honestly have known more women that have run out on their children than men. Either that or wreck the family through cheating....i know it happens with men too, but thats just my 2 cents.

I did not seek a Filipina for a servant. I sought one for a best-friend and lover. Someone who had my back at all times. Someone who i could trust.
It just so happens that finding those qualities in a woman is easier in the Philippines.
How i love her!

QUOTE (nick-maricel @ Jan 8 2009, 03:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
homesick and being alone:
whew!!... i just finished reading this topic and all the replies, there's so much about it. Well, Everybody who came here in the US gets homesick, it's natural and I think even if you've been here for how many years already, you will still feel it, it's just a matter of how you handle it and also with the help of your husband. It was really a big adjustment for me, I'm a very outgoing person, never sleeps, always out, having fun and working in the morning and work even on weekends, always busy - it's like I don't own my time - and my husband knew me that way from the start) I remember how I sad I was last nov and dec (I arrived here Oct 2008), I don't have friends here in my area, I was crying every now and then, pitied myself of just always staying at home and doing nothing. I didn't know that I hurt him for that, I became so insensitive while he, is trying his hard to make me happy even if he's tired from work and always busy, I forgot to appreciate the things he did for me because I was busy of crying and feeling miserable, I forgot that I should be grateful that finally after waiting for the visa and all that, we're together now. Everybody is right, it's really hard at first, but you have all the time now, I always call my family in PI, I get myself busy, I offered to do all the AOS stuff instead of hiring a lawyer again and since my husband is always busy, I never stop on searching friends on my area on the internet, never stop smiling and saying hi to people that looks like Filipino who Ive seen at the mall, resto and store, I'm proud that because of my husband, I know now how to cook, I re-decorated our house and plan to do some re-paintings and renovations, uh! I've got so much stuff on my "to do list now" I don't even know what to start sa dami tongue_ss.gif but I'm so much happier now and I discovered that there's a lot of Pinays here in my area, I'm now making friends with them biggrin.gif

working or plain housewife:
it's still your life and have the right to be treated as a woman and as a human, for me, being married doesn't give each other the right to own the other, it's two lives sharing together. it's also a matter of having a good communication. don't be afraid to express how you feel since we are in a liberated country. my husband asked me what do i want to do and I said I want to work and drive, I dont want to always rely on him whenever I want to buy something for myself, for him or for our house. And try to think of it, even if you are in the PI and let's say you have a Pinoy husband instead of a foreigner, you will still work, do the household chores and take care of the house and the kids, and much worse, your Pinoy husband will just cheat on you and will not appreciate you and sometimes they don't have jobs but still manage to go out with friends and drink (ooppss! I'm not referring to all guys in PI ha, hehe) My husband always tells me how much I make him happy and how much he appreciates me even if I don't make him lunch (it's hard for me to wake up early hehe..) I said sorry for that and he said it's ok, he's been doing that eversince and it's just easy to make and besides I'm doing all the other household chores. If your husband wants you to just stay at home but you want to work, try to tell him that you want to try and should not be worried because you will still take care of the house and him and still be a good wife. If you can't handle it properly then stop working, it's your choice. It's also your choice and it's in your hands of how your husband will treat you. WORKING OR JUST BEING A PLAIN HOUSEWIFE IS EVERY COUPLE'S CHOICE AND IT DEPENDS ON EVERY COUPLE'S SITUATIONS, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO DO WITH WHERE YOU CAME FROM.

Try to realize that you're not the only, it's not the end of the world, it's just the beginning of everything, new chapter of our lives. just take one step at a time and be patient. we're all the same whether we have a very sweet and expressive husbands or not, we all feel homesick. But thanks to the internet and telephone and to VJ of course.. good.gif

Cheer up! Be an independent woman/wife! wink.gif

Great reply! good.gif

PhilippinesI MISS MY LIFE
Anyone who marries someone just to come to America deserves to be unhappy. Anyone who marries without first discussing important issues such as future children or employment, is an idiot.
I think if both people are on the same page mentally with regards to all the important future issues, then with a little hard work and faith, all will be well.
I do believe though that if you are a young energetic filipina, and your man is a much older, lethargic couch potato, then unhappiness is inevitable.
And to the idiot calling the southern states, "whitetrash", it seems to me that a filipina would feel much more at home here wearing flip-flops, spaghetti strap t-shirts and being around other dark skinned people, like mexicans.
I guarantee that a filipina would feel WAY more at home in Texas than Massachusetts....you sir are an idiot.

That story is straight-up retarded. She's a ####### with some serious spiritual issues, and he's a nutless dumbass that deserves all the heartache that he's willing to put up with.......some people make me sick.
People forget that God is STILL the God of the Old Testament. We are under a new covenant through Christ, but God's judgement will fall heavily on those who know what is detestable, yet still practice it.

PhilippinesAbortion Question
QUOTE (Conan @ Feb 21 2009, 11:20 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
QUOTE (B&Gie @ Feb 21 2009, 09:25 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I asked somewhat the same question about a month ago. I'll summarize what I've been able to find out.

They may be able to tell if she has had an abortion/miscarriage from the exam. I'm not sure if they can always tell but they can at least some of the time. It also depends on the doctor. Some don't even check, while others are religious zealots who feel it is their duty to find and punish the wicked. They can't tell if it is a miscarriage or an abortion. However any pregnant woman in the Philippines who looses a pregnancy is supposed to report it and get a certificate of fetal death. I have trouble imagining enforcement is strict especially if the abortion is early like in your case, but that is technically the law. Abortion is illegal there. However I don't think think they are generally in the habit of prosecuting, and I don't know that you can do jail time for it or have it go on your criminal record.

Many(most?) women don't admit to their abortion in the interview. If you get caught in that lie then you're finished, but if you're a half decent liar the chances of getting caught are slim. Some women have admitted it and ultimately been denied. They get labeled as mentally unstable and are permanently blacklisted. Other women have admitted it and had no trouble. If you admit to an abortion that is a red flag and requires mandatory psychiatric screening. the doctor can't deny you. It's the psychiatrist who makes that decision. The abortion by itself SHOULD NOT be grounds for rejection. If it is fairly justifiable abortion and you are mentally healthy then you SHOULD be OK. An abortion by a well educated girl at 20something with a steady boyfriend who had an accident can just tell the truth and she should be OK. On the other hand, an Angles city hooker who has had 2 or 3 abortions by age 20 had better be one heck of a good liar, cause that's her only chance. If you're somewhere in the middle, well then who knows?

So basically it's a really thorny problem. How "respectable" is your girl? How much do you trust your random doctor and shrink to be fair and liberal like they are technically supposed to be? Do you trust your government when it tells you to trust said doctors/shrinks? Do you trust your luck that day? Is your girl a good liar? Is she cool under interrogation? There is no good completely safe answer. You could be fine or get burned either way.

So as long as she never admits it she is fine? She can say it was a miscarriage and never waiver on that? She wants to tell the truth but I am afraid they will never let us be together so we are worried about risking that. I am suggesting to her that she says she had a miscarriage if asked. They can never prove it was an abortion. There is no way to tell for sure is there? It sucks to lie but I don't even want to take the chance that we might not be together. This is a very hard one.

Exterminate a baby, then back it up with a lie. Good start to a meaningful relationship.

Seeing as how we just filed, and my fiancee's interview will be months away, will the CO want to see more than just the last 3 years tax returns? Will they want to see more recent proof of income at the time of the interview, or will the returns suffice?

I am afraid that if i get laid-off between now and then, and then they want to see paystubs that are like 2 weeks old, we will be screwed.

I am self-employed, so as far as i understand it, the last 3 tax returns are good, but if the interview is say 6 months after your LAST return, do they just assume you are still employed at the same place?

Please if someone could clarify this....thanks.

If you are self-employed, they will want to see three years worth of returns. I am self-employed, and that was all I provided for my fiancee. She was interviewed in August.

Otherwise, your most recent return should be sufficient. If you are close to the minimum, they may want to see three years worth. You should provide an employer letter, showing you current annual salary, and prospects for advancement and continued employment. Copies of your last 2 months paystubs should seal the deal.

So if there is say, like 6 months between the last return and the interview, they wont require more recent proof of employment?

Paycheck stubs and employer letter. You might get by with just the employer lettter, if it is reasonably current.

Thanks.

I have used the search function but get so many conflicting answers.
I sent the K1 visa pack about a week or so ago. Today i received the first and only thing from the Vermont Center.
It is labeled "I-797C, Notice of Action"
Then in the spreadsheet part it says "Notice Type: Receipt Notice"

Is this what is referred to as the "NOA 1"?
Also there is a "Reciept Number" on this thing. Is that my case number?
I know these questions are old as dirt, but i am not sure what this is.....thanks alot.

PhilippinesLetter of Consent needed?
Search function didnt give me much info. My fiancee is in Cebu. Her B-day is 2/25/89, she is 20 yrs old.
I have already filed the I-129 about 3 weeks ago. I have read that a "Letter of Consent" is needed at some point of the visa process, because of her age. What does this letter entail, who signs it, does it get notarized, when is it needed?
I was told by another 20 year old Filipina that she did not even give a letter of consent, and was never asked about it and got her visa with no problems.
Someone please let me know whats up...thanks.

PhilippinesOne Solitary Life
The spirituality of the Filipinos is obviously of greater importance to them than to the people of European descent. Most westerners take a more analytical/scientific view on things. I am a Christian, but not by blind faith. My faith is based on history, reason, science and life experience.
To all those that find it hard to harmonize obvious scientific truths with the scriptures, i recommend authors such as Gerald L. Schroeder, Ph.D.
With Einstein's relativity came the ability for the creation story to be plausible.
Archeology of recent years has also shed light on biblical truths. People who do not take the time to research the case of Christ for themselves tend to lump all believers into "moronic creationists", but in truth, great atheists turned Christian such as C.S. Lewis, Lee Stroebel, G.K. Chesterton, etc. have shown that intellectuals as well as "simple" people can be called by God, and answer.
A good start for the unbeliever would be "The Case for Christianity", by Lewis. It's a short, basic book that is a great work of Christian apologetics.
Although those who have an emotional distaste for Christianity will probably argue from an altruism/moral relativism perspective.
Anyway, i agree that too many people have turned from their Creator....i am just glad that my perfect little Filipina is a Christian too.

Don't necessarily think think it is beneficial to her for you to be around during the interview. If it's the first time for her to be in Manila on her medical. I suggest you go with her at that time as she would need someone to talk to during the whole painful wait.

The interview is not as bad. smile.gif And again, when the medical gets done early, you can always call the embassy and ask if they can reschedule your interview to an earlier date.

P.S. When this happens, make sure you inform St. Lukes of your intention to reschedule if possible and they will either give you her passport for her to personally bring it to the embassy.

PM me if you need me to explain it better. I am from Cebu too that's why I was so desperate to do the medical and interview all in one go.

She was nervous about flying to manila alone, (she's never been out of Cebu). I can only be there once, either for the interview, or the medical. She wanted me with her for her first trip to Manila so shes not alone, but me being there for the interview on her second trip is more beneficial than me being there with her for the medical....isn't it???

We're thinkin somewhere near Moal Boal. We like it there, nice and peaceful. Bohol is cool, but the beaches are overrated IMO. Bantayan's beaches are way sweeter.

PhilippinesQuestion about returning to the PI after marriage...
So 2 years? Wow. I wasn't aware we would have to wait so long. That kinda sucks.
Thanks.
