K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCopy of Passport Stamp for RFE
In response to my recent RFE, I'm sending a copy of my passport admittance stamp from Saskatoon, where I flew to meet my fiance for the second time in August. The letter indicated to me that just the identification page and the page with the stamp were sufficient, but does anyone know whether it is more advantageous to copy the entire passport, as one might for proof of citizenship? The letter wasn't entirely clear on the point, so I'm making a bit of an inference.

Thoughts?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat kind of photos for evidence?
I thought it might be useful (for someone) if I noted here that I received an RFE for more evidence substantiating our meeting. According to the letter I recieved, USCIS would prefer "film-dated photographs of the petitioner and the beneficiary together. NOTE: USCIS will accept non-dated photos if dated photos are not available."

Note that I did send photos of us together in my original packet. ;) I'll just send more this time, I suppose.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRFE received :(
I think the short form is the small identification card-sized one. It has only the person's name, date of birth, and place of birth, and not much else. The long form has more information, like the parents' names. I think it's the parents' names that the USCIS is looking for. There's also a birth registration, which has more information still, including stuff about how many children the mother has had previously, the time of birth, etc. That works, too. Like I said, the important part, from what I've read, is the parents' names.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRFE received :(
The waiting for the RFE is the worst. I spent a week and a half waiting for the snail mail letter, and wracking my brain about what we might've forgotten.

It turns out they wanted more proof that we'd met in person in the last two years. I'd sent a fair amount of proof already, but there you have it. That was a bit of a hassle, but I sent back my RFE packet today.

Yeah, I'm starting to think the CSC mail room is on vacation. They still haven't sent me any notice of having received my packet.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDeclaration of how you met in person in the last two years.
Yes, only the petitioner is required to sign the statement.

Also, note that the burden falls upon you to prove that you've met in the two years prior to the petition. A copy of your passport stamp, if you traveled abroad, is generally considered primary evidence; boarding passes are only secondary evidence which support your primary evidence.

I got RFE'd for that.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTravelling within the US
As long as you don't leave the country, you should have no problems. From what you wrote, it sounds as though you're still in the country legally. The only time you should require a visa is when you're actually entering the country. Any other time, you'd just be using your passport as photo ID.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
It's about time!! The RFE is processed, and we've got our NOA2.

I know how hard it is to read these notes when you're still waiting for yours to go through... please accept all my best wishes for speedy processing for everyone else.

Best,
Rachel

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresfeel like losing all hope
I really feel for you! It was so hard to come to VJ while I was waiting for my RFE, which extended my own process a month beyond what it should have been, and while I was always happy for the people who had gotten their NOA2s so speedily, there was always a pang of envy and a sense that the waiting would never end. It's not much comfort for you right now, I know, but the waiting will end. Take heart and keep your hope.

Because it's being forwarded on to CSC (at least, I think they still are), it takes a while longer. Try to be patient -- it's a skill that will serve you well in the coming months.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIt seems a little late for administrative review
I've already posted my review of the Vancouver consulate here, but I wanted to post as well, not to freak anyone out, but to make those of you planning for your interviews aware.

My fiance's (very common) name apparently had a hit on the U.S. criminal database when the Vancouver CO's were processing the case. This is the sort of thing that you'd expect to have happen back at the service center stage of the process, but we didn't have any problem at all at that stage of the game. Instead, he had to be fingerprinted the afternoon of the interview, at 3pm, and his fingerprints were sent off for processing to verify that he wasn't the same person as the name hit. The first consulate officer said the processing would take two weeks, but the one who took the prints said it'd take two to three weeks. Administrative review, after the interview. Ugh.

In the stories I've read on VJ, I've never heard of this happening (or at least, not in Vancouver), which is why I wanted to make you aware of it. We had scheduled his flight to the U.S. for June 20th, exactly three weeks after the interview. We figured that'd be more than enough time to fax anything we might've forgotten, but our paperwork was fine and we definitely didn't forsee this particular complication. Now we're cutting it close enough to stress me out again, and if his visa doesn't arrive by the 20th, I'll probably have to buy him a new ticket.

So consider this the voice of experience: don't make plans too close to the interview date. You never know what could happen.

Best of luck to all,
Rachel

Scott's K1 visa was issued Wednesday and put in the mail (Canada Post XpressMail) yesterday (Thursday). It should (we hope? Pleasepleaseplease!) get to Saskatoon by Monday. Which is good, since his flight here is on Tuesday morning.

I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm praying it's not the train...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProcess for getting married before K-1 process is finished??
You'd need to withdraw your K1 petition and file for a K3. Obviously, each of us have different circumstances, but most people won't recommend this. The K3 process is less straightforward, as I understand it, and it'll take easily another 6 months to complete.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGot married at city Hall Today

Congratulations on your wedding.

You might want to just apply for AOS. My wife got the EAD three weeks before AOS interview and approval. You could save a few bucks.

Congratulations on your wedding!

As someone whose AOS process dragged on far longer than we ever would have expected, let me just offer that applying for EAD is a kind of insurance that will allow both of you to work while you're waiting. If you get quick approval, you can think of it as an expedited processing fee, but unless you're equipped to live on one salary for an extended period of time, I strongly suggest you apply for an EAD.

Best wishes. :)

When we file the I-129F form, do we have to send in the financial information too? Do we only send the I-134A form for finantial support when we file for the K-1 visa??? \
Thanks!!!

The I-134A form comes later; it doesn't need to be sent with the I-129F form. It'll be needed for the consulate interview.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe RFE Master List

Not at all. I was asking basically if you sent any record of purchase of the ticket. Also did you print anything out showing the itinerary. Just trying to offer up some suggestions.

I sent all of that the first time, but I definitely plan to send it all again. I can't imagine how anyone, looking at the evidence I sent with my original packet, wouldn't draw the conclusion that yes, we really met in person. But I've got a few more receipts I'll send along from my time in Saskatchewan, and my passport entry stamps and so forth, so I'll be adding those, as well.

Thanks! I appreciate your thoughts.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe RFE Master List
We finally got our RFE in the mail.

They've asked us for more primary or secondary evidence that we've met in person in the two years prior to our filing for the NOA1. (That is a bit of a stickler, as I had been planning to send evidence of the two meetings we've had in the meantime, but that isn't valid information. Only the two years prior to December 7, 2005 count.)

I sent copies of the boarding passes and airline tickets and receipts that we used as we flew back and forth, as well as pictures of us together, along with the original packet.

For my RFE, I'm planning to send those boarding passes and tickets (again), the same pictures I sent before, as well as copies of my passport and some receipts from my trip to Saskatoon to see my fiance. Also, I'm asking my family and friends to write quick notes attesting that they met my fiance when he was visiting me. They didn't ask specifically for that kind of information, but it seems like it might be helpful as corroborating evidence.

Can anyone suggest anything else I might send? I stayed with my fiance, and we didn't use much public transportation, so it's not like I've got hotel receipts or train tickets I can send them.

Thanks!
Rachel

QUOTE (RDDIXON @ Jul 10 2009, 11:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Unless you live in the boonies, there are Filipino or Asian grocery stores or markets so it really isn't a big deal. She can make her own Filipino food if she isn't happy with whatever else is available. It is really that simple. She doesn't have to eat anything other than Filipino food, really.

"Texas hill country" - maybe you do live in the boonies. smile.gif Guess you have to take a trip to the city and stock up.

Thanks for the blatantly obvious information that doesn't even answer my question.

PhilippinesQuestion for Filipina's in USA, regarding the food...
Hi all,
I was curious about how the Filipina's that are now living in the USA feel about the food here.
There are lot's of different types of food, from fast-food to Italian and Mexican.
How do you ladies find the food compared to back home? My Fiancee thinks maybe her palate won't be adjusted to the food here, and she won't really care for it. I keep telling her that there's no way she won't like a chicken or beef fajita plate, or a good 'ol texas cheeseburger, or maybe a slab of good lasagna.
Fast-food is pretty much the same everywhere, but how do yall like the real restaurant foods?
Lemme know ladies.....thanks.

We were early March filers so maybe the March filers are gonna get some action finally!!!

WOOOOHOOOOO!

Time for her to take the medical at SLEC. Best to do it ASAP in case she has to do a 8 week sputum test! LOTS of TB in PI and lots of people getting their visas delayed because of the sputum test.
My wife did her medical 1 1/2 months early.
She only needs the NOA2, MNL number. passport, 3 PP pictures, 2 ballpens, water and some snacks. Don't go when in her period.
Have her make copies of her passport as she won't get it back until after her interview. May need it for CFO. She will need the PP number to fill out DS forms naman.

Thanks for the info! smile.gif Time to get busy!

My fiancee recently talked with an acquaintance who is a K3 filer and who told her that she took the CFO seminar BEFORE the interview. I thought the CFO had to be taken AFTER the interview.
Can someone let me know when the CFO can be done, because if my fiancee can take it before the interview, that would help speed things up.

I had my wife do St. Lukes a 1 1/2 early using the NOA2. Make sure your pinay makes a copy of her Passport as SLEC takes it and she won't get it back until after her interview. She may need it for CFO or something.

Umm, so she will need her passport for the medical, and they will keep it there when she is done and send it to the embassy? So you are saying to make a copy of the passport, (1 or 2 pages), so she will have atleast a copy of the passport for if she returns home before the interview, for the CFO?

Yeah she "may" need the passport at CFO. She'll need the PP number for the DS forms also.
