Trying to navigate this maze and could use some help, encouragement, advice, etc. wacko.gif

I submitted our application to Texas in late June and received canceled check in July. Some questions...

1. I never received a hard copy (is that the NOA1?), but called the customer service folks and they told me how to find the receipt number on the canceled check, which I did. Shows it was received JULY 2nd and sent to CSC for processing. I still never have received hard copies of anything in the mail -- will I need anything or is the ability to track progress online enough?

2. Is there anything we should be doing while we wait for notification of approval of the application?

3. Beginning with the end in mind ... with a JULY 2nd receipt date and clean records for both myself and my fiancee (we met July 2006 and I've been there 7 times) when would you guess she'll finally receive her Visa?

Thanks from this Texas rookie.

Good luck to all.

Texas, please add your timeline to your signature so it will give us a better understanding of where you are. As for waiting for the hard copy of the NOA1, you should call the USCIS to find out since you have the Case #. If you see my timeline; it took them 2 and 1/2 mons to get it to me. I wouldn't worry too much about the NOA1...it's the NOA2 is what you should really be concerned with. This one is the one that counts most.

Consider it done; signature added -- many thanks. And congratulations on the NOA2. That's awesome!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGetting the visa
Does the 90 days of having ot be married start when she enters the US? Also I'm curious as to how people did this, 90 days is a short time to plan the wedding. Did a majority have the ceremony too or just go to the Justice of the Peace?

My fiancee and I are applying for a visa, K1 Visa. Say she gets the visa in the mail and she can now legal move here. So is there a time limit from when she gets it that she has to be in the states by? or can she stay in Canada for like a month or two before moving here.

For what I have seen once your case gets to the consulate of your fiancé´s country they will send her a package with all the instructions. There it specifies what they need to bring/send to the consulate, and all the paperwork that have to be done before the interview.

Im trying to fill out the form typing coz i think its better than writing its clearer and neater to do.but i cant fit some of the info in the box where you put the answer.how can i fit the information in the box so i can just print it out.is there a way to download the form in a fillable version?

To my knowledge, the boxes don't expand based on the info you're trying to write. I completed the form online, except for some address info that would not fit in the provided spaces. Then I printed it without an issue. If something won't fit in a box, you can attach a piece of paper with the question# and write the answer. In the box, write "See attachment #". That should give you plenty of space to write clearly.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPrevious Marriage Discussion
QUOTE (HarryandAlena @ May 19 2008, 02:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
The time is drawing near for Alena's interview. We have delayed because she is finishing her degree at the university. After five hard years of her hard work I can wait for her for another month. My situation is this. I was married to a Russian woman once before. I brought her into the USA back in 1999 and we were married for almost 5 years. The subject has never came up with Alena and I did not volunteer the information. One time I tried to start a conversation regarding previous relationships and she wanted nothing to do with it so I have left it alone. I was planning on telling her all about it in April when we had a trip planned for the Dominican Republic but at the last minute I had to cancel because of work problems. I just feel like it is not a subject you bring up on the telephone.

My question is this. Is this going to come up in her interview and will it be a problem if she does not know anything about it?

Thanks in advance for the advice

Harry

Yes, it will come up at the Interview. Part of this process is that you prove that you are free to marry. That means you'd need to show/supply a Divorce decree as part of the package you submitted. If I were a betting man, I'd bet that the Consulate will ask her about her knowledge of a previous marriage to someone whoalso had a K-1 Visa.

I would make 100% sure she knew BEFORE the interview, BEFORE she comes to the US, BEFORE you are married. DOn't do anything to cause her to have doubts! Once you lose the trust, it is hard as heck to earn it back. Be open with her. Give her the chance to understand, to digest the information and to let you know her feelings BEFORE you take things to the next level!

But i am worried because my I-194 will expired On October 4. Can this be okay even if i'm late? what do you think in your own opinion? blink.gif

Get married in your city at the City Hall by the Justice of the Peace. You've spent a lot of time getting a K-1. Don't waste 90 days in the US and have your Visa expire before you marry! You are cutting it very close. Get married today!

QUOTE (chikita @ Sep 12 2008, 09:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi all,
When I visit this year my fiance I traveled my a foreign passport because I was not a US citizen yet. However, this month I will travel with an Amerian pasport, so my question is, for proof of meeting within 2 years, do I need to sen copies of both passports?
The foreign passport has over 4 stamps and the american will have only one for that visit. I know these visists are important and want to show them all, so I guess I need to copy only the biographical pages of both plus the stamps showing the entries and exits, right? or Do I need to photocopy both passports including empty pages, wouldn't that be too much?
Thanks

You can send copies of both. If you're worried USCIS won't understand, you should attach a short explanation. Actually, I did not include any Passport stamps, as they don't prove that you met your partner. I included a few dated photos together, a hotel receipt/itenerary with both our names. Everything went well. I did not get an RFE to provide more evidence.

My fiance lives with his mom but then they sold their 2 houses few months ago and are now living separately for the mean time. My fiance lives with his friend and his mother lives with her friend too while waiting for the new house to be built. It won't be done before my interview for sure. And now, he's not working since just few months ago. And he is looking for a new job. Now, this is confusing me. Are these going to be a problem now? The way I see it is yes, but I do really need your opinions and ideas, please!

Thank you so much.

The Visa process is about you and your Fiance. USCIS could care less who lives where and with whom, unless it makes your Fiance or a co-sponsor are unable to support you via I-134 standards. Is someone co-sponsoring for you? And why isn't your fiance worried about this? I think you have worried yourself into believing there's a problem here. Seems normal enough to me. I'd stop worrying.

-sigh- i went to the bank today to pay the visa application fee of $131 and it was validated on one of my ds 157 forms. Then I just noticed it when i got home that there's a wrong spelling on my fiance's last name... his last name is Boutell and i accidentally put Boutelll ... 3 L's. Maybe my hands were shaky or the keyboard was too sensitive... I don't know. Would that be a problem? What should i do about this? Should i just erase this or i need to pay the visa application fee again?

Thank you so much... I'm worried.

Make the correction. DS-157 is a simple fill in the blank form. No barcode is generated from the information you entered. I'd just correct the spelling of the name.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 question
So my fiance got our NOA2 in the mail. good.gif It said something quite curious. It said the petition had been forwarded to the consulate here in Bermuda. I thought they went to the NVC first. Is it typical for them to say they've sent it to the consulate/embassy even though petitions head to the NVC first or do you think they actually sent it directly to the consulate?

I didn't think that you needed to be finished the entire course of vaccinations before immigrating on a K-1. I thought you just had to be done by the time you file for AOS. My instructions with package 3 actually say that the medical has to be completed except vaccinations.

Can someone clarify?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPolice Clearance from another country
I've got to get a police report from Canada too. I've decided to fly up there next weekend and have my fingerprints done electronically. That way the RCMP run them within 72 hours and the report should arrive in 2 - 3 weeks. They'll only send the report to a US or Canadian address if you go the electrontic route so I'm having them sent to my fiance in the US. You just have to fill out a form allowing them to release the report to someone besdies the applicant.

Thankfully getting a Bermudian police report is hassle free. You just take ID to any police station and fill out a form.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAnything I can do?
Hi Lisa,

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother. I was in a very similiar situation last year. I moved back to Bermuda (from Canada) to care for my mother. She had stage 4 colon cancer. My fiance's support was one of the main things that kept me sane during that time. He's the US citizen in our case. He was able to visit often under the VWP and thankfully spend some time getting to know my Mom before she passed away. When he wasn't able to be here, we spent time every day playing WoW together and talking over vent.

I've no idea if USCIS will expedite your case but it can't hurt to try. In the meantime, I hope Tim can take advantage of the VWP and come visit you.

If you ever need to vent to someone, feel free to PM me. I've got some insight into what you are going through.

You're in my prayers,
Catherine

So I have some questions about that...

My fiance and I hired a lawyer for the K1 and they sent our application on Oct 2nd. It was received by CVC on the 3rd. But since, we didn't get the NOA1 in the mail yet. Apparently my fiance (the US citizen) and the lawyer should receive a hard copy in the mail. Of course the woman who is taking care of us in the lawyer's office is on vacation for a week now sad.gif so we won't have news for a week maybe.

I want to check online our application online but we don't have our case number yet.
So do you think it is ok to register with USCIS online if we're filing through a lawyer?
If yes, can I register without the case number? I mean will they find us in their database with our name?

Thanks!

Hey Laure.f! smile.gif

I'm a new member just like you, but I can help you with your question. smile.gif I was asking the same questions as you a few months ago. We have a lawyer, too. Listen, they will get the NOA1 before you do, but once they receive it they should update you immediately. (Our lawyer did.) Anyway, once they receive the NOA1, it will contain a case number that was assigned to your case. Go to the USCIS website and click on the link that says "Case Status On-line". It will direct you to a page where you can check the status of your file. Existing users can log-on and new users (like yourself) can register and create a new profile. It will ask you to type in your case number so make sure you have it handy. wink.gif When you are creating your new profile, make sure to check the box to sign up for free "e-mail updates". USCIS will automatically send you an update through your e-mail when there is a change or update made to your status. All I can tell you is to BE PATIENT... we got our NOA1 on August 18th and still haven't heard a thing. At this point, all we can do is WAIT until we hear something. It's all in God's hands now. Just be patient, be strong, and hang in there. We will all get through this eventually. We just gotta have faith. smile.gif I know exactly how you feel and I assure you, you're NOT alone. There are THOUSANDS of people just like us out there WAITING. You & I are lucky it's just been a few months for both of us. Some of these poor VJ couples have been waiting for years to be together. sad.gif Please keep them in your prayers. We ALL need it! Well, I hope I was able to help. If you have any questions or need someone to talk to I'm here. May God bless you and your fiance with a life filled with happiness & love. smile.gif Good luck with everything! smile.gif

We're not.... we just wanted a little help understanding some of the information provided here on VJ. We know that the information and estimates that are provided are not always accurate, but they help you get a better picture of where things stand based on the information gathered from the other users. I know that they take the dates of other users and compare them to approval rates and that's how they come up with the timelines (estimations anyway).. I know they are not set in stone or anything like that. Just wondered what they meant by all that. Thank you soooooooo much for your help, Laura+Tom. Okay, I wanted to know if any of you can help us understand the timeline that was given to us here on VJ. Here's what ours says in the comments section:

"Based on timeline data, your I-129f may be adjudicated between December 11, 2008 and December 26, 2008."

What does that mean exactly? Does that mean we should expect a NOA2 somewhere around that date OR does that mean our case should be finalized by then? What I did was go to the Skype website, then Account --> Login --> Calls & SMS where it also keeps a log of all calls made in the past 6 months. Then printed those webpages.

Does it only do that if you pay for calls? We do free laptop to laptop calls and I have no call history when I log in.

No, we call each other ALL THE TIME for free & ALL of our calls are automatically saved. Look under history... it shows you call history & chat history. You don't have to be a paying member. star_smile.gif When you sign into Skype, a window opens up where you can see your friend lists, chat, & make calls. When this small window opens, click on the tab that says history. Once you have found it, you can choose what you want to view where it says "all events". There it can show your call history, chat logs, voice mails, transferred files, SMS, etc. Click on whatever list you wish to view. Then once you have the list you want, click on the "Prnt Scrn" (print screen) button on your keyboard or laptop & you can take screen shots of whatever you like & paste it on Paint or Word. Our call history is VERY LONG, so I have to take multiple shots. I hope this helps. smile.gif Let me know if you need any help. smile.gif

Hey Mohamed & Trina, smile.gif

We're filing through Egypt, too. Even though we aren't anywhere near our interview (still awaiting NOA2 sad.gif )... I'm still going to make a trip back to go with him. I know how you feel... all stressed because you have to save money for your life together so you can be prepared when he gets here, BUT THEN AT THE SAME TIME you know you NEED to make another trip back. Honestly smile.gif, I DESPERATELY WANT to go back & I'm just waiting to get approved (NOA2) that way once we get our interview date, I'll book a ticket immediately. biggrin.gif I'm tight on cash too, but I just can't stand being without him. PLUS, the interview is the BIGGEST part of our journey & I cannot stand to let him be there alone without me. Even if they don't let me in, I'm going to be waiting right there by his side. smile.gif I've heard that they are REALLY tough in Cairo because of the high fraud rates, so I'm guessing it's best to be there with him EVEN THOUGH we have TONS of proof that we have a bonafide relationship. Anyway, this is something that you and your fiance need to decide on TOGETHER. Talk about your options and what's best in your situation. Either way, you're in my prayers. I'm sure you all will be just fine. It's just us who sometimes OVER-STRESS ourselves because we want everything to be perfect and go as smoothly as possible. I don't blame you because I'm EXACTLY the same way. smile.gif He's the love of my life & I want nothing more than to be by his side for the rest of our lives. smile.gif Good luck in your interview. good.gif May God bless you both & grant you a smooth & speedy approval. wink.gif Please let me know how it goes so I can join in & celebrate with 'ya! wink.gif

i hope she recognizes me.. lol.. rofl.gif

please provide comments on surviving a long distance relationship.. helpsmilie.gif it should be helpful for everyone.

Also give me some ideas as what should i do after i getout from the airport and see her again.. i dont know what will i do when i see her.. :-) kicking.gif

As for helping with the long distance thing, the best thing me and my fiance ever did to help us get through it is to each buy a webcam. failing that then at least a instant messenger. time differences can always be tricky but you just have to work around it. Something fun to try that can make you feel closer to her if you have either webcams or instant messenger is to watch/listen to the same movie/tv show/album at the same time.

hope this helps.

good luck

I'm sorry, but you cannot do this. You BOTH must be FREE TO MARRY when you submit the petition. There's no other way around it... sorry.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPrevious Marriage Discussion
What is the current status of your petition now?Did you any letter from Nationa Visa Center?

There's a question on your petition about the previous marriages, if you answered that yes, you may needed the court decision on that matter cause that's one of the supporting documents your fiance will be needed on her interview .You don't need to tell the whole story to your fiance about your past marriage, just tell her that it may come up on her interview that's why your telling it.I'm sure the relationship you built with fiance won't make her mad if you discuss about your past marriage.

The Consul didn't ask me about it but I have a complete documents to show.

Goodluck and God Bless..

PS: Tell your fiance to look straight in the eyes of the Consul Officer. I know she is smart girl on how to do it..

Do they deny K1 petitions or just the one where you are doing the interview to apply for a visa?

case to case basis.. you have to prove that the relationship is genuine and your fiance can support you or you won't be a public charge when you get to US..make sure you have enough documents to support on this application..goodluck!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresproof of an ongoing relationship
QUOTE (nmh @ Sep 14 2008, 10:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi. I've sent my I-129F 4 months ago to the CSC. I told my fiance that we will need to have proof of an ongoing relationship such as e-mails. She has not sent any e-mails during this time, for me I got tired of sending without a response. We have only used IM 3 times and the last time was almost 2 months ago. When I do call I always use a phone card so no phone bill. As far as I can tell she will not use e-mails and has not made a great effort for us to chat online. [b]For some reason she does not comprehend the importance to show proof of an ongoing relationship or even her required paperwork for the interview though I have asked her many times to look at the required paperwork to understand what she will need. The only thing she knows she needs is a police clearance from two countries Korea and now UAE. She is a citizen of the Philippines. She has not gotten this police clearance as well. My question is this, if we have very little proof of an ongoing relationshop how might this affect the interview at the embassy? Thank you.

about the embassy, its case to case basis. you have to prove that the relationship is bonafide.the card u used can help too. about the highlighted in your message, I'm just wondering about ur fiance, it seems she is not doing some extra effort for this application, im sorry bout if your fiance won't cooperate the usem has the reason to deny your application. have you made ur travel to Phils?the tickets, hotel receipts, pictures can be a big help to prove it..since you just submitted it two months ago, you guys can still have time to accumulate those supporting documents. goodluck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMaking a cover letter for proof of meeting and relationship
QUOTE (mikeandjoana @ Sep 11 2008, 11:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi, have any of you out there had to create a separate cover letter for your evidence of proof of meeting and having a relationship. I have so much stuff from my 2 trips, it's overwhelming me and I'm having some serious difficulty putting this together. I have boarding passes from both trips, my stamped passports, both itinireries, hotel receipts from both trips, luggage tags, emails, letters, plane tickets together, 5x7 photos, etc.

We met on match.com and I mentioned that in the first sentence of how we met. Is that a problem?

Hi I can give you some guidelines how to make your cover letter:

1. where did you met her?
2. when the chat started?
3. when the serious relationship started?
4. what made this thing to you?did you have sleepless night?sounds corny but it will help.
5. when did you plan for your trip, how was it?meeting the families, the place, the feeling while you're with her.
6. mention the phone bill that you never had before.
7. if you send money, why you did that?
8. the feeling when you get back to US.
9. the future plans if K1 visa granted.
plus if there is engagement already, why you did that?

having these in your letter make sure you have corresponding supporting documents like pictures, reciepts of money order, phobe bills, airline tickets, luggage stubs, hotel receipts, etc etc..and make sure your fiance can answer with confidence incase it will ask during the interview.. you will be approve 100%.

goodluck..
