K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNVC FOLLOW UP

If i call NVC what information will they ask from me to know that my case is already with them? is it my case number from USCIS?

Yes like A&B Mentioned you will need
Your WAC # or USCIS Case number,
Name and DOB of both of you
And other information like email to verify other info to confirm your identity.

Once you identity is confirmed you will ask for the Case Number so you can set your interview appointment .....
it will begin with MNL for the Philippines and your priority date (usually the date they received your documents on the original file)

Then you will have your fiance go to a BPI branch and pay the MRV VISA APPLICATION or interview fee. She will need the case number, and her passport. Then they will give her a receipt and you can set your interview about 24hrs later.

Also, just for information. I received my number just about a week after I got my email and text of my NOA2 approval by calling the NVC. Do not wait for the paperwork from them. We had the appointment scheduled and she had her medical done before I received the letter.

if i call NVC to follow up if they receive my NOA2 from uscis, what information will they ask to me.. i want to call and follow up my noa2 if they receive already..

They will ask all the questions the previous poster said, you then need to ask for your MNL case number and you priority date. That is what you will need to pay for your appointment. :)

LOL. Yes your results may vary  But that's what this thread is for.

On a separate note I now have a list of things that may ease the transition for your loved one when he/she arrives here:

1) Rice Cooker - this is a must. I bought one at Sears for $30 that is working great so far (Mekong Plaza, my closest Asian Grocery Store, wanted $100+).

Same here. Bought ours at Walmart since they wanted over $100 USD at the local Asian market.

2) "Thai Keyboard Stickers with White Lettering on Transparent Background" found on Amazon.com for $5.77 with shipping sold by 4KEYBOARD. This will turn any standard computer keyboard into a Thai keyboard

3) Download the free Thai language pack for Windows XP/Vista (this allows you to switch between Roman and Thai language on the computer by clicking on an arrow on the far right side of your Start Bar in Windows). Unfortunately, if you have Windows 7 you have to upgrade to Windows Ultimate in order to download/install any language packs.

4) Thai Satellite for Thai News/Soap Operas (I mentioned the specifics in an earlier thread and there are alternatives to a satellite dish).

5) "Bidet BB-50: Hand-held bidet with room temperature water and adjustable pressure" offered from Amazon for $45.50 with shipping. This is the popular "Bum Gun" found everywhere in Thailand. It comes with all the necessary hardware to go between the water hookup and your toilet's tank and mounts on the wall. This one has held up well so far for me.

I laughed so hard when I read this one. My wife told me I would hook one of these up ASAP when we got back but so far I have managed to avoid doing this. Explained to her what an errant shot of water does to sheetrock. Did not really go into details that bathrooms had water resistant sheetrock though.

6) Some kind of clothes drying rack or setup some clothes lines. Mimi is not a fan of clothes drying machines (I don't think they're popular in Thailand but someone can correct me if I'm wrong). My socks and underwear are OK in the dryer but for the more delicate stuff she prefers the old fashioned method.
Told my wife that the homeowners does not allow this (they don't outside) but asked her the other day why she doesn't handwash her undies anymore and dry them and she just laughed. So apparently my wife does not care about not being "HISO" so both my dryer and dishwasher get used. LOL

I'm sure there is something I'm forgetting but I think that covers the important stuff. Obviously you don't HAVE to buy this stuff but I think it will make for a much easier transition for your significant other.

Mike

I know this is a K1 forum but it seems like the place where all of us "Thai" people hang out. Just for general knowledge, wife entered Houston Sept. 25th, received SSN 9 days later, and today (22nd) received her Green Card. Thought that was pretty quick for government business after the long protracted wait of the initial visa.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSawasdee 4 (Thai K-1s in 2010)

I know some of this info has been mentioned before but I thought I would post anyway for those who have recently married or will soon. I wanted to have Thai TV available in my home so I did some research. Not so much for Mimi because she can understand most American TV (they do talk too fast sometimes but if I turn on English subtitles she'll be OK), but for my visiting soon to be Mother-In-Law since she speaks very little English. I tried a few web sites but even with a high speed internet connection the streams were horrible (they paused every five seconds).

I ended up buying a fixed dish satellite system from Galaxy-Marketing.com for $218.65 with shipping. I paid a local satellite guy $150 to install it so I'm out about $370 but it's all free-to-air broadcasting so there is no monthly bill. They have about seven Thai stations, mostly American produced but Thai speaking broadcasts, on the Galaxy 19 satellite. One of the channels is TGN which is the exact same broadcast as in Thailand (I called her while watching a cooking show to verify it was the same). I noticed there is a new station called "Lakorn Thai" which means it is a station dedicated to broadcasting Thai Soap Operas - it's sure to make Mimi's mom happy...LOL.

I know that there is an argument to be made for total English immersion upon arrival but I think that your significant other would really appreciate having some connection to Thailand in their new home - even if just for Thai news. I know how much I appreciated just being able to watch a little BBC or any English news broadcast while I was in Thailand.

Mike

Sounds as if the author is a bitter woman from what I can take with her sarcastic tones and snide remarks. I can't really see 15% of marriages as she says. She does sound very bitter for some reason in this article.

i am glad that Teaw is settling in her new environment in terms of myself i am a nervous wreck my fiancee Gif is supposed to have her visa interview this thursday sept 30th i am very worried of the unknown factor,i would have really wanted to be there with her getting her ready but my sister passed away unexpectedly last thursday so it has truley been a tough week for me.For all those who have gone through getting their visa approved for the loved ones can i ask you all if there is a place were Gif can leave her cellphone cos i know they dont allow yhem inside the embassy i really wanted to know the result of her interview as soon as she is done cos i know i wont be able to sleep all night worrying. The other silly question i would like to ask is that will customs allow us to bring in some spices from Thailand or they wont allow them just want to prepare ahead of time.

We just went through POE at Houston Saturday, she brought in some homemade chili powder and they never asked about it and I of course did not mention it. I have tried to explain you can get the same here in Houston but to no avail. I took her yesterday to buy food and she was amazed that the same things are sold here. Needless to say, I left market with grocery basket full of fish sauce, oyster sauce, etc....She is happy now. Walmart is on the agenda today. :help: :help: :help:

Kinda funny. It's getting chilly in Texas.

Wife walked outside this morning and almost had a stroke. She has a parka on as we speak in the house and I am sweating since my Air con is not longer under my control.

What happened? Everyone is so QUIET in this thread now!! All the honeys in the USA so nobody is writing? LOL!! Teaw has discovered the Science Fiction channel (SYFY) and has been watching that all weekend now.
We will do the deed this Friday and then see about applying for her SSI card.

I've been too busy preparing my house so a woman can live in it!! We got home last night finally and all is well in Texas. Only bought 2 car loads of Asian spices and food today to stock the house. :bonk: All I had in here when I left was Beer.

Well, Teaw and I are finally back in North Carolina after our aborted stay in Thailand due to my father's death, flying back to NC and then the next morning out to Calif for the funeral and to help my mom
get some stuff straightened out. My daughter was a champ and took care of all the funeral stuff for my mom so she didn't have to do it. But flights delayed coming home tonight (Sat) through Chicago so we got
back a little later than we had hoped. Now after meeting my family by what I call baptism by fire she can settle in now and get used to the US.

Sorry to hear about your father and your loss but congrats on getting both of you back home. I can't wait till next Saturday when we are finally back in Texas.

They haven't been in the practice of issuing visas "the next day" for quite some time. I seem to remember others waiting around for a week for their passports, and we waited 4 days for ours over a year ago.

Congrats to everyone.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSawasdee 4 (Thai K-1s in 2010)

Hi everyone, just a quick update. Five just finished her interview. I don't have all the details yet but everything went well. The person who interviewed Five said that they needed to talk/check with the US embassy in Malaysia before giving her the visa. They told her to come back next Tuesday. Five studied in Malaysia for 4 years and brought her police clearance certificate. I really don't know why they need to check the embassy there. Does anyone have any ideas why or what they want from there? I guess it's 50% good news. She was told everything was very good and that she should have her visa next week, but it's still not 100% done.
Five told me they asked a lot about our religions.

Anyway, good news I guess, unless something goes horribly wrong with Malaysia, which should not.

Wish I had some words of wisdom for you on that one but not quite sure about why they would speak to the embassy there. Also, I am wondering about the religions as well?? That is very odd for them to ask to me but maybe I don't know the entire story. They really zoomed in on my previous marriages and made sure my wife knew and kept asking her whey she would marry someone that has been married before. I thought it was strange but maybe not.

Also, does anyone know why they are taking a week to issue the visa rather than next day like they used to? Is this normal now at BKK??

@AdamW
Congratulations.

I took Audy to the Embassy at about 6:10 am. She went in at 06:34. She finished at 11:15. PASSED!!!

She said there were three K-1s including her and two CR-1s which one might have been AdamW's wife. We had copied my passport entrance visa stamp and two used boarding passes to get to Bangkok this trip. The woman interview definitely asked Audy about my being there, why, how long I would stay and so on. I think it helped but according to Audy she had no real problem even though the interview was long.

I am very proud of Audy because she managed to pull off the entire interview in English. I think she did a great job.

Since there have not been any postings at all from Jordi, (gbagbo), I am afraid he and "Five" did not make it to their interview today, the 14th in Thailand.

Congratulations!!! Just one quick question, when did they tell her to come back to pick up visa with passport?

I don't even have a car at this point. (Long story that needs to be told over a beer) I work 1000 feet from where I live and the wife (Nok) goes shopping with her Thai friend. She still has the Thai mentality though. She thinks the US govt. just gives us free unlimited money.

You'll see. Have fun with that one. Also lock down the PPV channels. That last bill was a shocker.

I'm so glad you said that about the free money. I have accused her and her family of thinking all farang have money trees in the backyard. I'm serious too, the mentality of Thais and money blows me away. Thanks for the advice of PPV. Any more shocks to put on the calendar and radar??

The first time I took my wife out of Thailand, I took her to Singapore. I had meetings all day for 3 days. She just sat in the hotel room. On the 3rd day I told her to go do/buy something. I got back to the hotel, and she was pi$$ed. She bought a shirt for 75 SGD, and then when she got back to the hotel and the tag said "Made in Thailand" I still crack up about that.

I tell you man, it has been a fun year watching her and how all this unfolds and doing all this stuff with her. Look, don't know if you ride Harleys or not but if you do, PM me. Sounds like we'll fit in. Got some big rallys up your way and north of you we'll be attending.

Been to Jakarta a few times. Was worried about shacking up there with the religious thing. They had them in the hotel bar though. Also, the money had like 6 zeros after it. Could never figure out the exchange rate there. I think I paid 10k for a beer at the airport.

If you ever go to KL, check out Beaches. I love going to Singapore and KL and talking to those girls. The minute I speak Thai to them they walk away. It's hilarious!

Yeah, I carry around a wad of money that could choke a chipper down and it is only about $200 USD. It is cheap here and funny you say about speaking Thai. 2 wks ago a barfly asked where my wife was, I said Thailand and she almost slapped me. I guess they know they can't break out the SE Asian charm and I'm not married to a cuckoo in the States and it takes the wind out of them. Also, my wife came down here last month and we stayed in Bali, everyone sales girl there would talk to her in native tongue till my wife told them she was Thai and they would not talk anymore. English, Bahasa, NOTHING, acted like she had offended them or something. I thought it was hilarious because the wife would get angry as well.

Yeah I should find a hobby. I used to travel Asia weekly. Now I go to my cubicle at Verizon 5 days a week here in Texas. They're building light rail outside my window every day. So that's a fun wake up every morning. I'm still a little shocked I don't have to show my passport at work, since I'm the only one speaking English there.

sigh.. Wife is happy though.

Try working in Singapore for a year, meet wife, wife live with me in Singapore, marry, then tell wife week after marriage have to go back to USA to work. Got through that hurdle by flying back and forth to BKK every 2 weeks. I work an 14 on and 14 off schedule. NOW, 2 months before she gets visa, tell wife have to come back to SE Asia (Indonesia)and work again for next year while she sits in USA alone!! Imagine the conspiracy theories of the farang when that was told to the Thai family.

You could get in through the US citizen services section... show up to ask a question about adding passport pages or something.

I don't think it matters much either way, though. I didn't go either. Ann handled everything herself and I didn't see her until she showed up in the US (after stopping in Kuwait on the way over...)

I'm with you on that one. It is probably best she handle it as I am sure with my "BOSS" mentality (as she calls it) would make matters worse. I'm just so close here in Indonesia though and the wait it killing me.

They wouldn't let you in to the interview anyway. Kind of ironic when they want to prove a relationship.

You would be stuck outside trying to find a Beer Singha.

You know what else I found ironic? When I went to the BKK embassy to get my letter stating that I was free to marry, they let her in with no questions asked and she and I freely walked around inside the embassy to the citizen's service room with no questions. Now, that we are married they won't even let me "CITIZEN" into my own embassy!!!!!!!!!!!! How ironic is that??? Games that the government play.

By the way, I prefer Chang!!

Sorry to hear the bad news Tom. My condolences to you and the entire famly. It will be alot for you and Teaw to deal with. Both of your Ex-wives will be at the services?

It is Sunday night. We had a small, quiet and somber meal. Nerves affecting both of us. Audy is checking her list twice, make that about 17 times. Off to bed early, then up very early. I am going to wait for her somewhere outside the Embassy. I am not sure if it will help, but I will be there.

Good luck all.

Good luck to you guys. I wish I could be there as well with my wife but currently sitting on an oil rig in Indonesia with a knot in my stomach worried about it but don't really know why, no complications but still can't help but think.

Hi AdamW. Yes, udy is nervous and driving me nuts. She also is reading usvisa4thai. She has been looking for another K-1 that will be at the interview on the 13th.

I do not know about CR-1's. Actually, K Visas should not have to pay anything at the Embassy either. The visa application is paid for in advance at the Thai post office. The only exception is when they have a fee increase like they did in June. Then if you already paid the lower fee and interview after the new fee effective date, you did have to pay the difference at the Embassy. Otherwise, the US Embassy Bangkok does not like to collect money for anything.

Good luck all.

LOL, well, I am on Skype right now as I am writing this and she is going crazy looking at papers, picking out clothes to wear, etc..... Good luck to you guys and I"m sure all of us will be fine. It is Saturday night here and she is leaving to go stay in hotel tomorrow so she is freaking out tonight. I'm sure another panic attack will be had tomorrow night as well.

You might give her a copy of the I-864. Do you owe the IRS any money? If so, that's gonna be an issue. I got burned that way.

Just make sure you have lots of photos. They put alot of credit to photos. Not sure why. I had bills with both our names at the same address in Bangkok since I lived there, plus 6 or 7 photos, and that wasn't good enough. So go crazy with the camera if you haven't already.

No money owed to IRS, I filled out the 864EZ form. We have tons of photos along with bills as well, I work in the oilfield so I have been living there as well for the last year. My 14 yr old son has been to visit and we have tons of photos of that and also me with all of her family. I guess I will tell her to print out some more. She is concerned that she will have to pay more money when she gets there and is getting that info from thaivisa forums. I can't seem to convince her that she does not need again at the Thai post.

You might be able to guess. It's just a good idea because people use that data when they first file to get an idea of when the next step in the process will be.

The website uses that data to draw these graphs:

http://www.visajourn...r1cr1historical

Also, you can do specific timeline searches here:

http://www.visajourn.../filterlist.php

It's not just for the visa, but also Adjustment of Status, Removing conditions, Citizenship etc.

I apologize. I will try to go and look this up. In the meantime, can you give guidance on my question, I have read that some people bring new I864 to the interview? According to her packet, all necessary documents have been received except for medical. I have been sort of confused at other postings at what they brought to interview. She has all the evidence compiled and is bringing it.

Congratulations Mike and Mimi.

Audy interviews Monday, Sep 13. I am here in Bangkok helping Audy put together all her papers, checking everything, practicing questions, etc... I just told Audy about Mimi's interview. Thanks for a synopsis of the questions.

Good luck on the next steps in your lives together.

Looks like my wife and your fiance' will be there together on the 13th. Is Audy nervous as my wife is?? LOL I was just there for a month getting her ready but had to come back to Indonesia to work so she is going alone. Also, I know K1 is different than CR1 but all I can see from the Packet 4 that she needs to bring is her medical and passport. Is this correct if anyone can tell me?? Thanks.

Hi OP I have the same problem as your fiance...I also never used that name on my birth cert but i have also that annotation below that it is already corrected...I am on my 4th month waiting of my noa2..hope this would not be a problem in my interview...

Hello po! :) So I'm guessing your BC was not included in the original petition packet? I'm thinking of sending it in now to hopefully avoid problems later...I hope all goes well for you! :)

Yeah you will need to include it. He will need to submit a birth cert when he goes for the K1 visa interview at the consulate and you don't want to get caught up in issues over the name differences then.

Yeah, I had thought that we might run into that problem later on for the interview, so I was thinking about going ahead and sending it with my initial petition. Thank you! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresName change

1) The name that you need to use when filling out the forms, is the exact name as it shows on his legal documents (passport/BC)

2) Yes, you will have to put that other name even if he never went by it.

Yes, always add supporting evidence of what you are submitting; so sending a copy of the BC with the name change will be the way to go. Posted Image

Thank you! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresName change
Hello everyone! My fiance (from the Philippines) and I are trying to get everything together for our K-1 petition. I've read through the guides and everything, but I just had a few questions.

1) My fiance had his first name on his birth certificate officially changed in 2009. However, he has always used this 2nd name since he was little...he never once used the name on his original birth certificate. The guide does not mention sending in a copy of the fiance's BC, but I'm wondering if I should since it's a name change. The guide states to show proof of legal name change if using a name other than what's shown on relevant documents. The only actual document with his original first name is his original BC.

2) On the G-325A, would he need to put his original BC name in the space for "All other names used" (even though he's never actually used that name)?

Also, on his BC, it now shows on the side something that says "Pursuant to the decision rendered by ___ dated ___, the child's first name is hereby changed from ___ to ___." If we do need to send a copy of his BC (either now or for interview later), will that statement do, or does he need an actual court order paper?

Thank you in advance for any advice you could give us! :)

I'm trying to get our documents ready to file our I-129F petition. I've read the guides, and it shows on there 1 passport-style photo per person (petitioner & beneficiary). However, I've read quite a few posts that mentioned they sent 2 passport-style photos each. I'm just wondering if there is a reason I should send 2 photos each. Thanks in advance! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresStill waiting for my NOA2 are they usually 5 months to the date?
I sent my I129F on October 2011.I waited few days and nothing so I called them and let them know about it and finally I received NOA1 weeks later. Then I received a RFE and answered couple days later. They said they would let me know in less than 60 days. I waited 61 days and I began calling. They said there was nothing I could do but wait 60 more days (that was said on another letter). I was so disapointed and upset but finally last friday on June 15 I got the NOA2 :). Dont give up it might take longer than others but there is always hope.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA 2 now what..
Hi everyone and thanks for your help. I called NVC (National Visa Center) and they had my case # ready :) Now I know how important it is to call and be proactive. That is the way to go unless you not in a hurry to reunite with your love. Later I will call Manila and go from there.
Again thanks everyone and thanks VJ.
