OH YIPEE!! YESSSSS
So happy for you Kim and Russ. So no drama at the interview? Finally a stage of this process moved fast for you.

Today is a happy day for me too. I got gasoline so went back to get my cats that I left in north Houston. When I got home, I had lights...what a relief. I live near a school and I think they are trying to get the schools back up, so we must be on the same lines. The fridge is getting cold, but it's empty because I had to throw everything out. I watched TV news. Walmart and Target opened today. Shipleys opened and I got my first cup of coffee in days. Loved it! My town is slowly coming back to life. Life is good and it feels so great to be getting back to normal. Now I can focus on Nick's arrival and our upcoming wedding. WOW.

First laptop dead, but Nick left 2 here. Yay. I have all AOS filled out. Now I just need Nick to arrive and a wedding. (well some electricity, a hot meal, hot shower, and high speed internet would be nice too) Will have to wait for the marriage to be recorded with the county and them mail certificate to us. he arrives in 2 wks. Wedding in less than 3 wks. Wow I hope they get our power back before then or I will be a smelly bride. Oh well. LOL.Still 1.5 million without power, but half million restored and Canadians on the way to assist. I am living off bean dip, peanut butter crackers, nasty cold vienna sausages, straight tuna, and cookies. Hmmm...why did my stomach start getting weird rumbly gurgles today? Must save power for the Kim report midnight Tues. Go Russ!

Looking at this, Kiev is getting much slower at processing...could very well be a backlog you are part of. It's a dramatic shift since summer.

Desenchantee--Yes DHL is that fast. You can track it every step of the way. Going to paste it in here, but the columns will squash up, so try to decipher it.

2:51 pm Shipment picked up Portsmouth, NH

Yours is either misplaced OR perhaps they are behind in processing so they just leave the deliveries unopened until they are ready to process them. Kinda like our boxes on the shelf in Vermont. That seems like a reasonable answer. You can call the DOS and ask them what info they have. They will know if it's logged in to the system in Kiev. Did you get a letter from NVC (hardcopy) saying your file had been forwarded to Kiev? You should have had that by now.

how do you check if the package/group of packages has left NVC for a consulate? I read the instructions somewhere but couldnt make them work sad.gif
I know I wont need it for a while, but hey!!! I am still educating myself smile.gif

Do you mean how do you track DHL. Here is an explanation I gave before

QUOTE
My package left NVC on 08 May 2008. This is what I did on the site http://track.dhl-usa...?nav=TrackByRef

In the "reference" box, I put EXP 07 MAY 2008A (notice that's the day before they said it left) If the day before is a weekend then go back to the previous Friday.
They must generate their reference and do the packing the day before pick-up because EXP 08 MAY...didn't work.

Below in the "shipment pick up date range" I put May 8 2008 to May 8 2008 (I wanted to see things leaving NVC on only May 8) If you put in a range of dates, you see some in transit, some being delivered, and you want to zero in on only the ones departing on the date NVC said yours left and no others.

Then click the red arrow that says "track"

There were three pages of shipments, so be sure and click "next" which indicates if there are more pages.

I noticed that there were 67 shipments leaving NVC on May 8, but each was to a different country (no duplicates) which tells me that they combine petitions going to the same Embassy. Looking at details on some shipments, the London package was 3 pounds and Manila was 40 pounds, so there must have been many petitions from Manila going together. You see how many pounds a shipment is by clicking on the red number of that shipment. Once you figure out which one you think is your number, then you can track it by number and see it's progress every step of the way. That would be under "track by number" instead of "track by reference."

For the one I looked at for desenchantee, he said it left on Aug 18, which was a Monday so went back to Friday, Aug 15 and entered EXP 15 AUG 2008A then put the date range Aug 18 to Aug 18.

They will deliver to any address you put on the paper. They will release it to another person, if you leave id like a driver's license or credit card with your name on it. You can pay for before 8 am delivery, or 10am, or noon I believe if you want to narrow down the time.

The Embassy will have you leave the passport and pay the courier if you are going to be approved in a few days. If the medical is a few weeks after, they might not keep your passport that long. Or if they see there are more name checks that will take several weeks, they won't keep the passport. In that case they say they will notify you when to send the passport back to London via Sms courier. So you call courier and schedule a pickup of the passport from you. I guess you pay a fee to get it to London and also another to deliver it back to you at that time.

Yeah we left both blank and put in that same phrase. It does make sense to me what he was telling me. How long did it take for your visa to be delivered, if you don't mind me asking?

It took a week, but there were a few problems.

Tuesday: Interview. Computers were down at Embassy so CO said something like provisional approval because I can't do the final check until the computers are up, but go pay courier. Courier said our computers are down and wrote out a receipt and the reference number was basically the date. Something like 20080729A...don't remember but it wasn't enough numbers. (Question: Did you get a computerized or just sloppy hand writing receipt?)

Friday: Thought we would have a text msg by then. None. Called DOS who told me it said he was a no-show at interview. Geeez! I told her we both were there. She said she could look in another place. AHA! Your visa was approved and printed on Thurs. The courier should have picked it up Thursday.

Monday: Still no text so called SMS. Your reference number doesn't have enough digits. Tip: if you should need to call SMS, press whatever the menu says for "schedule a pickup". That's the only way I got a person. Ok, that person finds it and says it's on the truck and out for delivery. Called back around 5:45 and asked is it still coming? Oh the truck broke down at lunchtime so his afternoon deliveries aren't being delivered. I complained nicely that I had spent 10 hours inside the house so not to miss the driver and did I have to spend 10 more on Tuesday? Call back at 8am and we will give you a 1 hour window.

Tuesday: Still no text, but given 3:00-4:00 pm window. Went shopping. He finally came near 5pm I think. Needless to say, I called them a bunch and did learn that they can call the driver and ask where he is and will call you back and tell you.

SMS stands for Secure Mail Sucks.

I truly hope yours comes with no hitches. I have no idea why we never got a text message. Maybe because the courier computers were down, it just never got put in the system. Maybe two days to approve and print the visa was longer because of the computers. It only had to come from London to Oxford...hour and a half maybe?

Interesting about the I-134. Just a month ago, the one I filled out was not questioned at all. I didn't check either box of "Intend" or "Do not intend". Also put N/A (K1 Visa for permanent residence) like the sample. I don't quite follow what you did. Did you leave both blank too?

Hi April Rockers~~

I have learned new stuff today that may interest some of you because I was checking out AOS info. It seems that Tuberculin Skin Testing is part of the new medical requirements. You K1 people don't have to get another medical when adjusting status. They use the one in your brown envelope you got as part of the visa process. That's why this info applies to you. One would think having an x-ray for TB would take care of that diagnostic tool. But this Q&A is on the USCIS website.

Q: When did the new TB requirements become effective?
The new TB testing and treatment requirements became effective on May 1, 2008. However, CDC allowed a 30 day grace period. Therefore, any medical exam that takes place on or after June 1, 2008 must be performed in accordance with the new TB testing requirements. (Alas...Nick's was June 3 and London did not do any TB skin test)

Q: Will USCIS accept Form I-693 if the civil surgeon performed a chest x-ray without the TST?
No, the civil surgeon must administer the TST, unless one of the exceptions listed in the Technical Instructions applies. If the civil surgeon performs a chest x-ray without giving the applicant the TST, the reason for omitting the TST must be noted on Form I-693.

Ok, so I'm not too worried about that because if AOS gets held up with a RFE because he needs it, at least he's here in the US waiting with me so who cares?

But what else in interesting about this is this little chart I'm going to try to post as a picture.

So if your medical was after Aug. 1 (lots of you)
  • Your medical must be on the newly revised (June 5 '08) edition of the form.
  • You must meet those new TB requirements (skin test)
  • You must have all the newly added vaccines if age appropriate. HPV is one of the new ones. Most are N/A to adults.
If your medical was in June or July (Nick)
  • Your medical can be on forms with either of two dates (UK was ok on that)
  • You must meet those new TB requirements (UK didn't do)
  • You do NOT have to have the new vaccines--HPV!!
If your medical was before June 1
  • no new form
  • no TB skin test
  • NO NEW VACCINES
So that's basically saying if you got a medical prior to Aug 1, you do not have to get HPV. Huh? Think about the posts that have been going on for months about HPV and this chart is indicating that it's okay not to have it if the K1 medical was before Aug 1.??!? Sheeesh!
The new vaccines are: HPV, Rotovirus, Hepatitis A, Zoster, meningococcal and most of those don't apply to people over 18, so don't get into a panic. All the new ones were on the UK's packet 3 list months ago and probably all other countries as well.

This is indeed a screwed up process we are going through. We are caught in that little gap of medicals in June/July.
It's the TB Debate of Summer '08. rofl.gif Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Ok, get back to your rockin' and rollin'~~~~~~~~ kicking.gif

Steph--
You know what I would do? I would print the checklist from the P3 scans I gave you. Fill it in and mail it along with your DS forms. I know they are not going to bat an eye at that. There is nothing you get in P3, except a cover letter that tells you your LND case number, that is specific to you. If you already know that, then you're set. You do not send their cover letter back to them. Nothing official with your name on it goes back except things you have filled out yourself.

Meanwhile you can do the address change or whatever. If you're not in a hurry, then wait a few more weeks for another packet, but I seriously would use the scans with not one moment's hesitation. The scans print better than they look on screen. And London P3 is messy, poor photocopy quality. It's not like you're sending in something crappy when they sent a fine laser printer checklist. They don't. It's messy and crooked on the page.

I'm not much on taking risks unless I think the odds are mucho heavily in my favor, so I wouldn't give you this opinion unless I was real confident that it would be A-OK.

When you send in P3, include a cover letter itemizing what you are sending, then add a paragraph saying please note my new address is _____. That's just another way of making sure they get told your address one more time.

When I say "you" above. I mean Gareth.

Steph--Looking at your timeline, I would guess that P3 could arrive anytime now so probably too late for address change to be effective to re-route the P3. You should put the new address on everything you are mailing to the embassy. They will be sending out your appointment letter and you want it to go to the sister's house. Also the SMS courier will need the address where the visa/passport is to be delivered and signed for, but you fill that out after the interview. DOS can tell you if P3 has been mailed and P4 too and when your visa is printed.

I've got a question about the medical... Yesterday I spoke on the phone with Giovanni (of La_Giovanni fame), who had just had both medical and interview, and he told me that the doctors at the Istituto Varelli in Naples had told him diseases such as measles, varicella or rubella can come back later in life. I have NEVER heard anything like that in my life, and I'm surely not going to get useless vaccines injected into my body when I have already had those diseases. As I said in an earlier post, I intend getting a titer test in order to show that I don't need anything but a tetanus shot. I don't know if he was told so because he's younger than me (31 to my 47)... What kind of advice can you give me?

I've heard of people who had polio having symptoms return decades later. I was interested in that when it was news because I had polio when I was 2 years old, but with no lasting effects.
I think the requirement for immigration is having certain immunizations or having the disease. Yes, maybe things could come back but odd things can always happen that aren't the norm. I don't think the US expects everyone to get immunized all over again. You don't have to have the immunization completed until you apply for AOS, so if you don't like what Dr. Italia tells you, then deal with the shots in the US. Some people say having the entire immunization finished and recorded makes it easier for AOS, but if it's a matter of somebody in Italy wanting to give you shots you don't feel you need, then make a choice on which route you feel like taking.

This is a 24 page document from the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) which gives some very good detail about the immigration requirements. Maybe you can find some answers there. CDC is the agency that determines the immunization rules for immigrants.

How should I arrange cards/letters - super silly OCD driven #######. Will VFS take this or will he take it in with him...

I don't know what they do in India. I've read Filapinas say they take scrapbooks to the embassy, then it won't fit under the glass for the person to look at. I personally stuck a couple of things on computer paper...boarding passes for 2 trips since initial petition, some ticket stubs from Les Mis in London and two photos of us together, and maybe the train tickets to London, and another letter of intent to marry. Then I put those papers in one of those flexible clear report covers with the clippy edge to "bind" it. It wasn't much stuff, but just something. I was in England when he was getting his embassy stuff together, so I just dug through my purse and pulled out junk from that trip. It didn't take 10 minutes. Of course, London didn't ask to see that. I would suggest you read all the reviews from New Dehli and see what people say they took and if it was looked at so you know the general practice at that Embassy. You get good info from doing that. If you find things like, "they told me we didn't show enough evidence." That tells you to load up. But they might say, "I took 3 scrapbooks and they didn't look at them." You might consider the flexible binder if they have a small slot put the docs through.

Howdy April,

I did some quick homework for Milo. This should have some helpful information..it's straight from the New Delhi Embassy website.
http://newdelhi.usem...ivdocforms.html

It has links to police certificate, medical, the forms, and what they call k1 Packet 4 which has instructions. Something different I noticed for New Delhi (from the Packet 4 instruction page) is that 10-15 days prior to the interview, the forms should be submitted to the nearest VFS office and the courier fee paid. Then it lists all the documents and the order they should be organized. I don't know what a VFS office is, but I assume somebody living in India will understand that. There is a link to VFS offices, but that link takes you to lots of information of how to pay the fees and make appointments. Mumbai rules seem to be slightly different and are noted. From there you can find the link to the actual VFS office locations.

Good luck. It's a big homework assignment.

Milo and Jer. Did you look up above in the blue menu bar under the people pictures? It says Embassy Info. Find your country's Embassy and read the info. Most countries have a good write up about the particulars of their requirements.

For Thailand there is an active group posting in a thread SAWASDEE 2, The New VJ Thailand K-1 Thread in the K-1Fiance Visa Process & Procedures General Discussion. (The parent thread of this one). You might could get some good tips there. There is also a lovely lady posting under 'Thai Family' who could answer questions too. She's a mom, who took on the job of helping her son and Thai daughter-in-law sort through the requirments because her son was busy enrolled in school or overseas maybe. She's kind of a Mama Nich for Thailand and has learned alot about the Thai process. Find her posts or PM her.

Now everybody get their homework done, so you can graduate with honors. good.gif

Thanks so much! You've been a great help to me. smile.gif I guess I was confused because this is on the DS-156K form:

So I thought he had to attach originals of all that stuff with the forms. But if you guys didn't do that and ya'll have Visa in hand...then I'm good. smile.gif I'll go by what you said in your post. He can make copies I'm sure, even though he's not as big of a computer junkie as I am. smile.gif

And if you don't mind sending the cover letter, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks again for all your help!

That's a form that's for every country in the world. Each Embassy sorta has their own way of organizing things. London gives their instructions in P3, which you have, and it tells what to mail and what to bring to the interview. You just go down the checklist and check it off. We also marked N/A and crossed out things we didn't need, like military service, court records on that checklist just to let them know we read it and it didn't apply. Some countries have you bring all the DS forms to the interview. They all vary a little. So you have to zero in on your country when you get to this point. But dont forget the appointment letter.

Oh, I'm so glad you're not freaking out anymore. It's going to be so anti-climatic that you're going to come back and post after the interview, "Is that all there is?" Cover letter sent to hotmail.

Ok I've been looking over documents and I'm sorta freaking out.

It says he needs to have evidence of support for the interview AND he has to send in evidence of support as well...with the four forms he has to fill out. I only sent with him one copy of the evidence. I didn't know this until now. Will copies be ok to send in with the forms or should I send him another original? Thanks!!

And also the forms require evidence of engagement. Is that just the evidence of our ongoing relationship...or does he need like a receipt for a ring or something...cause we don't have that! My mom gave him her diamond reset in white gold to give to me (which I thought was soo sweet and a total surprise to me!) Thanks for your help guys! I just wanna do it all right the first time.

Stephanie

Stephanie--- Recent successful experience with London speaking here--->Mama Nich. No stressing needed. London is easy.

He DOES NOT have to provide any of his financial evidence if you are providing I-134 alone or with a co-sponsor. NO, NO, NO. Page nine list four types of evidence of your income and says pick two or any others that will prove your point.

NO proof of engagement to London. We have no ring or plans to ever get one. We passed. It's not in London's P3.

NO proof of an ongoing relationship is asked for at the interview.

You don't have to send more copies of your support evidence. It's a COPY. Can't he find a Xerox machine in the UK like at work, school, the library, Staples? He just makes a copy of what you sent. It's not two originals.

Mail in to Embassy:
  • The four DS forms as outlined on the first page of P3. Pay attention to what is says to send two of and what it says to not sign. It's on the page.
  • The IV15 checklist (it's four pages) if you have everything on it. The checklist is his way of saying, "I've got all this stuff and I'm ready to interview."
Mail the four DS forms immediately. You can mail the checklist later, but sending everything together is most efficient. Include a cover letter. I can send you mine to modify if you have Word. Change the names and good to go.

Take in hand to interview:
  • The appointment letter they mail him. It's the ticket in the door.
  • His passport
  • His original birth certificate. Must show parent's names. (and a copy so they can keep the copy and give his original back)
  • Originals of any divorce decree if he is divorced (and a copy so they can give original back)
  • ACPO police certificate (and a copy)
  • Court or military records if he has any (and a copy)
  • I-134 from you which is notarized plus at least two forms of evidence of your income. (and a copy) We provided 2007 tax return and letter of employment.
  • 2 US sized passport photos. The third they mention is really for the medical. Only two for the embassy appointment.
Click my timeline over on the left and way at the bottom if you want to read our interview experience play by play. Very detailed and probably too long. Don't stress. It's not as hard as it seems.

Well Nick loves it here and says it's more laid back, friendly, and easy going than where he is in the UK. I guess you Yankees in Boston and NY are a different lifestyle. You know, we're all country bumpkins here in Texas. rofl.gif We talk slower too, often making a one syllable word into two syllables. hahaha. Example: Kim would be Kee-um. Ok, I exaggerate, that would be in Georgia and Mississippi--the Deep South.

Luis will catch up to speed. What a change....NY, Suzy, twins!!!! Hang on to your hat Luis. You are in for one wild ride.

Oh and I was wondering is there PDFs of the paperwork that comes in Packet three here by any chance? I wanna have what he has in front of me so we can "fill them out together" ya know? And so we can make sure he doesn't miss anything. Thanks!!

Stephanie

Stephanie--I have the whole London Packet 3 scanned and it's the April 08 version. It includes medical info and form too. I have to "share" it with you using an email address...preferable a hotmail, msn or windows live mail account. Otherwise they may make you sign up or something. It's on MSN Sky drive. If you want it, PM me with an email. The 4 forms he will fill out are online.

London was not interested in my bank statements. The 2007 tax return and letter from employer was all they wanted from me.

I don't think the hardcopy of the NOA2 is needed for the interview, unless it's a quirky thing at a particular embassy. It is needed for the AOS is my understanding.

And 1 more question,
why do people post" i make 71,000 a year ,should i get a sponcer"

I think they haven't read any of the guides, FAQs, VJ Wiki, Embassy Info, or government websites. Lots of people are just randomly skipping through the forums picking up bits and pieces of conversations. So they see people talking about income and ask if theirs is enough. It's possible they don't even know there is a formula to go by.

Kim, any clue why your approval is taking so long?? wacko.gif

Well her petition reads like an exciting romance thriller and the adjudicator took it home and it's on his bedside table. He can't bear to part with it yet.

Hi April. VSC stats are a little boring today. How can we wake them up.??? headbonk.gif Hey VSC...get with it!

Ok quick question! May have already been answered numerous times...sorry!

How do I find out if the Consulate received our case? What number do I call for the Embassy in London?

Thanks!!

Why do you guys think that is?

I think it made it to the mail room and hasn't been sorted and taken to the proper floor. Tomorrow.....

Or on a cruise for single women who love their cats too much....
rofl.gif
Is somebody talking about me again??? Nope, because the cruise part doesn't fit.

KIM!!! I dreamed about you last night. Good sign, eh? Slumber vibes~~~ for you. It was one of those wacko, all over the place dreams. Being with Nick in some city, maybe San Antonio, riding a bicycle through a scary part of town looking for Nick. Watching a parade. Then going to a party at your house. Russ was there and we chatted but he couldn't get out of the lawn chair. There were lots of people. You were floating around talking to everybody. Each time I saw you, I told you "I've just gotta hug you." Then I woke up because Nick called from the UK. I was very groggy with a headache. Guess I drank too much at your party.

Good luck and DO IT this week. Get that darn NOA2.

Gaura--You seriously DO NOT have to notarize the evidence like tax forms, bank statements, letters. The only thing that is notarized is your signature on the back page of the I-134. I was in the London Embassy 10 days ago and they did not question any documents and did not even look at bank statements.

Here is the rundown on Igor's list going into the week of August 11...
(at least up to my spot at 65, sorry to be so selfish)

#2 repeat, subtract 1

#5 approved already, subtract 2

#22 very sad...pregnant, broke up, she is withdrawing petition crying.gif ,subtract 3

#23 a duplicate..approved in June so take off another

#28 didn't indicate service center in profile, is posting in CSC forum, I think it's a CSC case, subtract 4

#42 duplicate, subtract 5

#44 "Russ & Kim", pornography related delays

#48 Gaura & Nitai, already approved, subtract 6

#50 Suzy & Luis, VSC awaiting nude photos of Peruvian supermodel "Luis"

#56 Want to know what slows things down? Professional petitioners maybe? This person wonders if he'll have any trouble...applied for K1 in 2006, approved but he was unhappy with product on delivery and returned to sender. Applied for same person Jan 2007 had interview appt in June, canceled 2 weeks before interview because he had decided to "date" someone else blink.gif Apparently the product quality had not improved in the intervening 6 months! Now applying for her a third time! My my, what will happen this time?! Anyone else who has been through this situation please run over and tell him what to expect! headbonk.gif

Joe, I just loved your other post. You rock! I've had similar experiences having been an elementary school teacher. It is really a special gift to get that feedback many, many years later. We all touch lives when do the simplest things, and often never even know it.

Your neck gets tired fast when you hang "failure" around it. <-----Love that! good.gif
