K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsChange of address for Petitioner, almost to NOA2

Hi guys
So as you can see, like many other fine VSC folks, I'm still waiting for the elusive NOA2, but I am moving on Saturday of this week. How do I deal with the change of address? We are so close to NOA2, do I just let it get bounced back after I move and just rely on the email that may or may not come? Will mailing a letter at this point help? Will it even get to my file?

Thanks for any advice.

Unfortunate timing. I've known many who put in change of address that didn't prevent NOAs or even greencards from going to the wrong address. Mail from USCIS won't be forwarded. You won't be slowed down from the process because you should get the email to know it's approved, then calling NVC will let you know how it's going there. However, you will 100% want to get that NOA2 document because a photocopy of it goes in with your Adjustment of Status application. If you don't get it because it was returned as non-deliverable you'll have to chase it down and try to get them to send again. Keep on top of it so you have it for AOS. Call the USCIS number now and explain the situation and ask what they suggest at this last minute change.

If it doesn't get changed, you won't get the letter from NVC saying your petition has been forwarded to London. You won't need that letter for anything. You can get the info about your LND number they assign over the phone.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJust been approved after six long months...advice needed

Hello all,

First of all, it's great to see so many people helping others with their guidance and advice on this forum. Bravo.

Finally, after six long months, our I-129F petition was approved today. At this point we don't want to wait a second longer than is necessary to be together again, so I'd like to ask what can I do to make the rest of this process go as fast as possible. I have read about case numbers, arranging the medical, forms for the embassy etc, but it would be good to get a kind of fool-proof checklist to help with all this. FYI, I (the beneficiary) am from the UK.

Many thanks in advance!

This UK list and thread will help you http://www.visajourn...terview-thread/
Each consulate is different so best to get London info now. The police certificate link changed but is corrected farther down that page. You won't need as much as the VJ guide states. There's really no reason to have a copy of the whole I-129F packet. You only need a new letter of intent if you let the petition expire before sending in your forms. You can read that in the London letter that has been posted in the thread.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNo NOA2 at 217 days or 7 months and 4 days!

I am getting so frustrated waiting for VSC to approve us. We got an RFE over something stupid, and now this wait seems totally endless. In the beginning of this process I thought we would get it so quick... an uncomplicated visa, we're the same age, no previous marriages, no kids, he's from the UK, never any legal trouble for either of us... and yet, here we are waiting for this never ending process to come to an end. It is to the point of making me really, really angry. I know I'm just venting, but still, every once in a while you have to. Anyone else past the 7 month mark? Sometimes, I feel like this process is taking a toll on us at this point. So mad...

I bet it gets approved this week. Meanwhile have you read this thread? Lots you could be doing so you dont delay yourself by not being prepared. http://www.visajourn...terview-thread/

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsGetting ready for the interview at UK embassy

Can anyone tell me what they were required to show at their interview? Is a birth certicate necessary? I couldn't see it mentioned on the embassy's list of docs to take. Thanks.

It's the second item on the list, and even has a link for more detailed info. The list is here http://london.usemba..._documents.html

Note: That is the UK person's birth certificate. The only thing from the US fiancé is the I-134 affidavit of support packet.

PS---you might want to change your timeline to Vermont or California Service Center. it will give you a truer prediction of when you might expect petition approval. You mailed to the the Texas Lockbox, but the Texas Service Center will not handle your case. Lockbox and Service Center are not the same thing.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsIs a male engagement ring likely to be an issue?

Thank you Nich-Nick for further clarification on what London will or won't do specifically. However, with my examples, I was generally speaking on being consistent and not hiding something (no matter the location). I apologize if I was speaking out of turn, but I hope my thoughts on the subject would still be useful to the OP and the rest of us since it currently appears in the K-1 Forum and not the UK Regional Forum.

I was really addressing the OP and supplementing my earlier post that it should not be a worry. I would have quoted you if I thought you had spoken out of turn. Everybody's thoughts are useful.

I would like to advise all the K1s that once you've learned how to file an I-129F in this forum, you should find your regional forum (if any) and see what you can learn about your consulate. Start preparing while you wait. Asking a question about a London interview in the K1 forum will not necessarily get a London answer. When I was new here, I never scrolled down past the top forum (K1) so I think there are others who may have as many problems as I did finding my way. Reading the reviews from your embassy will also give you clues of how it is in your country. Consulate procedures are very different from place to place so I try to find the London folks and offer my experience of studying London procedures for 4 years.

I see you also have the Houston office. We didn't have an adjustment of status interview, but they were quite efficient last month at the citizenship interview. Very little waiting around. Good luck to you on a speedy process. (F)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsIs a male engagement ring likely to be an issue?
London will not be concerned with jewelry. They will not be trying to catch you out. They will also not look at (or file) any photos (with or without rings) or chats or emails or anything about your relationahip. Zero. Zip. They will be concerned about your proper birth certificate, police certificate, and adequate Affidavit of Support.

However, I know that engagement rings for guys are fairly uncommon, so should I wear it to the interview/medical? Are they going to assume its a wedding ring?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsGetting Worried Now!

I know I should probably relax but it just concerned me that it still wasn't added and the USCIS couldn't find it either :(

Somebody just failed to enter it. Think of this scenario....the worker issuing your Receipt (NOA1) had a co-worker say "let's go to lunch". So he left for lunch without putting your number in the computer for online case status. When he got back, he thought he was done with you and closed your paper folder and put it in the out box. He forgot a step. It doesn't mean you have no active case, but only a careless worker. It may never get fixed or maybe you can scream and shout at somebody until they manually go in and enter your number.

When my husband's greencard got approved (Adjustment of Status from K1) the adjudicator was supposed to update online status to approval. He didn't and we received no notification or online change to approved. My husband got a greencard surprise in the mail is how we knew it was approved. Over a year later we got the approval email. I guess somebody was doing some clean up of old cases not approved and realized it was actually already approved and they changed the status. Maybe the next time there is movement in your case, the worker looking at your paper file will realize it never got entered by the previous worker and will fix it. I'm just guessing that's what happens when the case status eventually turns up a month or more later.

Ours is not showing up for the ROC either, guess they are behind, at least we have numbers.

Big dog--- the NOA number for ROC never works. When you get the biometrics letter, there will be a new case number on it that works.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsThis cant be happening

The july threads are dead because most have received their noa2s, I check igors and see petitions a month after ours being approved. My fiance calls and gets denied service requests, even when others with less waiting got given one... Whats the deal? The call center guy said that we shouldn't trust vj and other visa forum dates for approval since its such a small sample size, well 8 of the last 15 approvals posted have been august... Small sample size or not, it shows they are working on later petitions, especially since only one of the 15 was dated before ours...

I check the last digits and the cases surrounding ours are all either approved or rfe. Did we get put in a box that got lost?

Why wont they give us a service request?

Have you started reading this thread? It will give you something to do besides fret. Lots of London info what what to prepare now.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJuly CSC filers still waiting

It seems like a lot of July and now August filers are getting their NOA2s, but most of them appear to have filed through VSC. I really haven't seen many July CSC filers mention that they've received their NOA2. I wanted to get an idea of how many people out there who filed in July through CSC are still waiting.

I'm a July 20th filer, NOA1 July 24th, and am still waiting. It'd be nice to know if there are a few others out there in a similar position.

According to Igor's list--

66 CSC VJ members from July have been approved
54 CSC VJ members have not been approved

At VSC, it's 96 approved and 49 not for July NOA1s

Find the numbers and dates here http://www.visajourn...filers.php?cfl=

And why don't you fill out your timeline to contribute to the statistics.. Make it 55 not approved. Your timeline is here http://www.visajourn...e.php?id=153371

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsK1 Approved @ interview - asked for DS-230 Part II ?!?

Approved at London Embassy interview today!!

A big thank you to everyone here who has taken the time to help others. I certainly wouldn't have managed to get this far without the fantastic advice given by the members on this site.

One heart stopping moment to note:

The lady taking my documents asked for Part II of the DS-230 form. When I replied that it wasn't needed for a K1 visa I received a look that only can be described as withering. She slapped the first page onto the glass partition and told me to read the first paragraph where it says 'This part, together with Part II, constitutes the complete Application for Immigrant Visa.'
Thankfully, she let me fill in the form there and then.

That's crazy because you are getting a non-immigrant visa. I've never heard of a K1 having to do that. I think she was mistaken.

Tell me, was it at Window 1, a short Asian lady with a soft voice?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsUSCIS Update 19 March 2013

Oh yes, I have seen those, but always seem to stumble upon them accidentally, never quite sure exactly where they are :)

From what I've seen it's really been pretty tough the past few months or so on everyone. It had just recently started to swing the other way for VSC and am hoping for CSC to do the same, but both of them need to kick it up another notch or two and get ahead of the game.

Find the graphs:

Menu bar- "Immigration Timelines". Click
New page, left column- "K1 Visa Timelines [Stats] [Trends]". Click Trends

Terrible waits. Ours only took 50 days at VSC and I thought that was the longest wait in my life. It's the excitement of a big life change plus the total lack of controlling it that makes you a bit crazy. It's like your parents saying you will get the most fabulous Christmas present, but not telling you when Christmas is and if you make any mistakes, Christmas will be delayed. AAarrrghhhh! :dead:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsTime Frame: NOA2 to NOA3??

I would be extremely grateful if anyone could give us an idea of how long it takes from the time your NOA2 is received until you get your interview date or NOA3? My fiance and I will be working through the USA embassy in LONDON. I know it differs depending upon the country, so anyone that can tell us about their experience with that process and London-- we would be very appreciative! This process is driving me insane, and any insight into the timing would be great. THANKS!

About 2.5 - 3 months is pretty standard from NOA2 to attending the interview. There is a UK forum where you can find lots of K1 experiences and tips, especially in this thread http://www.visajourn...terview-thread/

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAre K Visas considered ones labeled K-1, K-3 visas etc.?

Was doing research and it states that K-Visas are exempt from the $165 Immigrant Fee. I was wondering if this is true with any one's experience?

K1 is a NON-immigrant visa. The new immigrant visa fee is paid before the greencard will be issued. A K visa holder doesn't get a greencard upon arrival like those with immigrant visas. You will apply gor the GC after arrival and marriage and pay $1070 for that.

Yes, and shipping your things over, marriage license...it goes on and on. I kept a spreadsheet of everything immigration related that we spent from start to US citizenship. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsYAY! NOA2!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to both of you!!

. At the same time get an affidavit of support and all supportive documents notarized and sent to you from your fiance, as well as a new letter of intent to marry from him, also notarized as these take a while to get and send.

What exactly does it mean by getting them notorised?  That keeps cropping up but notorised by whom?

Brits: you do NOT need to notarized anything unless you stall around and don't bother to apply for your visa in London. The letter says IF you let your petition expire (4 months) then a new notarized letter of intent from the USC needs to be submitted to revalidate the expired petition. Otherwise you do not need a new letter of intent from either of you. As eager as you are, I don't think you will stall around and not bother to get on with the London part.

I'm a little confused and could use some help.
My fiancé and I just received our NOA2 last Friday (yay!). But now I'm unsure of what happens next. The hardcopy of our NOA2 was not very helpful. From doing some reading on this site I know that our case is being sent to the NVC. I know that the will give us a new case number and invoice number. How do I know what my new case is? Do they send a letter or do I have to call them everyday? How long can I expect this process to take?

They send a letter to the USC with the new case number and say the case has been sent to the embassy. By the time the letter comes, it will probably already be in London. Here's two threads that will be useful to you for your London specific process. It is different from other consulates.

My fiance has sent the 129f petition to the Dallas address thats stated on the USCIS website. When looking at processing times it states that the Texas center does not deal with this form?? Do all forms go to this office and then get assigned to a different center or have we got the wrong address?? Its just a little confusing?? Cheers

The Texas Lockbox is not the same as Texas Service Center. A lockbox is a central "mailroom" where contractors open the package, organize it into a folder, deposit the check and prepare the file to go to a service center for processing.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMy experience so far and visiting for 3 weeks during processing time I need reassurance please...
By my calculation, not knowing the exact Sept 2012 entry date, it seems that you have spent 62%-65% of your time in the US. That would often be considered excessive use of visa waiver privileges. They warned you on your last visit. It's noted in your record. You don't have strong ties to home. (Sorry, they are pretty weak.) It doesn't matter if you were in Hawaii, LA, Chicago, or Arizona...you were in the United States more than you were in your home country. The odds are not in your favor, but it's ALL up to the officer on duty to decide. If you are lovely and convincing, you may be welcomed in. Or if Mr. Grumpy is on duty, you may go back to the UK. There are no specific black and white rules. All you can do is try.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsdo i really need a copy of the entire 1-29f package

On this link here.http://www.visajourn...content/k1guide it says once we get our NOa 2 my fiance needs to send me a copy of the petion to prove we filled for it.surely they already have proof of this? If anything wouldn't a copy of the noa 1 receipt be enough?

If you need it as a study guide so you can learn your fiance's name, where he lives and works, and how you met, it might be useful. London will 1000% not need it at the interview.

If you are interviewing in LONDON, he should send--

1) I-134 and two proofs of income. Choose any TWO. Examples:

-Latest tax return/W2 or tax transcript
-Employment letter
-Pay slips
-Pension/retirement letter
-Social Security retirement yearly statement
-Financial statements of savings/investments if using assets to qualify
-Anything else that clearly shows income

2) If you let your petition expire (4 months after NOA2) and don't do anything toward applying for the visa or getting the medical, THEN they will want a notarized letter of intent to revalidate the expired petition. If you proceed in a timely manner and don't let the petition expire, then no new letter of intent is needed.

That's it from the US citizen

London does NOT need your I-129F, NOA2, USC birth certificate, originals of evidence submitted, chat logs, receipts, cards, love letters, photo albums, scrapbooks, phone bills....

Slightly annoyed that after waiting this long we still have to wait a bit longer. Can't imagine what we forgot to include or didn't send enough of. Oh well, guess we will know soon.

To both of you from the UK. Are either of you divorced? It's happened a number of times that the UK (England mostly) divorce decree is rejected for not having a judge's signature. USCIS doesn't always know in the UK there is no signature on the decree absolute. If that's your RFE, PM me if I dont see your update or post about it and I can tell you how to fix it.

Skip proof of engagement. London doesn't care. I'm sure you included a few couple photos in your I-129F. They will see you in those.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsDS230 filing in help AND evidence info DS156/157

Hi guys,

I have a quick question relating to filing in the DS230, the part about where you have lived (Q30) you don't have to write down the address it self do you? or just the town/country right? and as I've lived in London all my life does this mean I have to put down London for City/Town and Province as I believe London doesn't have Province exactly.

It doesn't say "address" in column one. It says cIty or town. Your answer is London. England does not have provinces. Somebody in Canada would list their province. This is a world-wide form and not personalized to the UK. Some people might put Oxfordshire or Yorkshire there, even though they are counties. For you a perfectly acceptable way to answer is--
London......N/A......United Kingdom.
Or even London......(no province)......United Kingdom

Also, all previous visits to the US, how detailed does it have to be? I have been a total of 14 times in the last 9 years varying from 5 days to almost the whole 3months.
If those who have filled it in can give me a bit of a heads up that would be much appreciated.

You are going to have to write "See additional sheet". Then you will list 14 visits exactly as they have formatted for you.
mm/yyyy. It's as detailed as that the month and year. If it was one destination then write something like Houston, TX. Or If you toured write Florida, Georgia, Alabama. Or even abbreviate the states like NY, NJ, MA, PA if it won't fit. Just do the best you can. With an extra piece of paper, you won't be limited by box size. If it was 5 days your answer might look like--
05/2013 to 05/2013 - Denver, CO. - VWP - None

Also, DS156 requires evidence of engagement to fiance, will engagement cards from friends, pics of both our engagement parties (one in UK one in US) and, if I can get, receipt from the jewellers he had his great grandmothers ring resized for my tiny little fingers be enough? But I don't have to send these off with the forms right just take originals and photocopies of them with me perhaps to the interview?

Any advice will be great thanks!

For a LONDON interview you mail nothing it says on form DS-156 with the form. They only want forms mailed in. And London will not want to see "engagement cards from friends, pics of both our engagement parties (one in UK one in US) and, if I can get, receipt from the jewellers he had his great grandmothers ring resized for my tiny little fingers". They list what you bring to interview here http://london.usemba..._documents.html Documentary proof of engagement or relationship will not be needed.

And if you haven't found this thread yet, I think it would help you to start at the beginning http://www.visajourn...terview-thread/
Ask your London questions in the UK forum so you don't get confused by processes at other consulateS. Each does it differently.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWe got approved! Now next stage?

OK I just read that the A number is different to the case number. How can I get a hold of my case number if I have the I-797 notice?

Your alien number (A-number) is found first on the NOA2 above your name and starts with "A". That is the I797 notice of approval.

Your USCIS case number Is on NOA1 and NOA2 and starts with "WAC" for California Service Center. The W is for "western". Vermont is E for "eastern".

Your Dept of State case number is created at the NVC and will start with "LND" for London. I already told you where you get it about 6 posts back. Find that because i'm not going to type it all again.

Also, maybe I'm just being a bit stupid or just confused after everything I've read, but do you get your case number only once you've sent off the DS230 pt1, DS156, DS156K and DS157 and the DS2001? OR do you need your case number, which is sent from the NVC and the letter they send you before you send all those off? I have all the documentation I need to move forward and I can pretty much send all this off as soon as I land in the UK next week from the US.

I try to keep my London answers in the UK forum, but you are getting a little off track here.

When your petition is approved, then you are leaving USCIS. The NVC marks your entry to the Dept of State (DOS) which is the government agency over the embassy and is responsible for visas. The NVC is located in the US and assigns new DOS case numbers. If you would read again the K1 London thread, this post http://www.visajourn...read/?p=5137390 tells you to not send anything to the embassy before your file is received and logged in by London. They have a method to notify you they are ready for your forms. Knowing your LND number has nothing to do with sending forms. Having your LND number is a ploy by the medical people to keep you from jumping the gun and booking before the proper step in the process. It shows you have finished USCIS and the NVC handoff stage.

Who knows your LND number?
The NVC who generates it and will notify the petitioner by letter or also give it over the phone.

The embassy in London once they get the file. They will notify the beneficiary in a letter saying you are now cleared to send your visa applications. It costs per minute to talk to them and they give poor info.

The DOS who has everything from NVC and every embassy on their computers. They will give it over the phone.

Try reading this post again http://www.visajourn...read/?p=5137390
