K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsFebruary Filer approved at Texas

Ive read on here that you can get your case number before it reaches the embassy in london or is that for something else? We are trying to get the rest of the process completed as soon as possible as im pretty much ready to leave.

Why don't you dive into this thread which was written for UK K1s like yourself http://www.visajourn...complete-guide/

It gives more detail than the bits and snatches of info you will get in replies. The first post is a list of things to do now. There is a bad link in the first post to your document list. Try this when you want to see the documents for interview list http://london.usemba..._documents.html

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportswhat happens after NOA2 ??

once i have sent off my forms and booked my medical is it true that i wont get an interview date until they recieve my medical report?

I guess you didn't look at this link which has been given twice already http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

The answer is very plainly written with Please note: written in red before it. Take some time to study the instructions London gives you since you've got until Tuesday before you can do anything. There's a lot of information about the medical linked from that page too.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportswhat happens after NOA2 ??

Hi there

Mine was sent to the US EMBASSY in london on the 12th April. So do i have to actually download the forms myself? if so am i able to do that now and send them off to london even though im yet to recieve a letter off them? I have my police certificate already. Also am i able to book my medical now, again even though yet again im yet to here from embassy in london? Im just thinking i may as well get ahead of the game in anyway possible.

Any help and advice on this would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Nathan & Jordan

Gather, fill out, get your I-134 mailed from the US, book your medical, but don't send anything to London until they know about you, ie receive your file and log in your case. They don't log in your case instantly the day it arrives.

And read the UK forum on VJ for better London specific information.

So do i have to actually download the forms myself?

we just got approved today and i know it will be sent to NVC..how long does that take? can i please get a detailed response on what will happen next?and what we need to do?thank you.

You don't have to call NVC. They will mail the petitioner confirmation that your case went to London and it will have the new LND case number.

London's packet 3 isn't a packet. It's letter saying to get your instructions and forms from their website.

Everything you need to know starts there if you will take the initiative to read everything in the left, center and right columns plus follow all the links to read more information.

Start filling out the forms and getting all the documents needed. Order your police certificste asap.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportschange of address for the beneficiary

Okay, I've looked and I know I can call thembut is there any other option? My fiancé has moved (he lives in england) & when I go to the change of address tool online, it has states and zip codes and says something about him residing in the US. But he's not in the US yet. I know I need to change his address for after we get the NOA2. If I have to call them, I willbut I'd rather not (I hate the phone). Am I looking at something wrong? If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Julie--

A change of address isn't vital for him. From the K1 London guide--

Your case arrives in London. The embassy will send the beneficiary a letter of instruction. Its not a packet, but just a letter that essentially says We have your approved petition from the NVC and we're ready for you to begin submitting your forms and have your medical. The letter has a link to the embassy website where you will find forms and instructions.

(This next part is for you Julie because he won't get a letter. But he doesn't need the actual letter for anything. He just needs to Know London has his file)

Shortcut for those who cant wait for their letter: If you have obtained your LND number, you can enter it in the CEAC Visa Status Check site,. Choose immigrant in the drop down. Include the letters LND with your number. The important thing here is to forget the text at the bottom about scheduling interviews or anything like that the Embassy does that for you once you've sent everything in. There are two main statuses at this point:
In Transit This one means your case is on its way from the NVC to London.
Ready This one means London has your casefile and is waiting to receive something needed to progress your case. You may begin submitting forms and booking the medical.

He will fill out his DS-160 with the new address and that is where his interview letter will go. He will also sign up for the courier delivery of his visa putting any address he wishes. They will not use the address from the petition.

Issued within 12 months of the interview date. You don't have to wait until after Christmas. Think about getting your immunizations now so you don't rush it all in after the NOA2. See this list of things to get in place. http://www.visajourn...complete-guide/

The London link to documents for interview is broken. This should be correct http://www.visajourn...complete-guide/
Scroll to fourth paragraph to find the list. You'll find the police certificate answer there too.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWaiting for k1 visa during this US Visa glitch

I thought k1 visa was a immigrant visa? Ok I've emailed the embassy through that link you've posted. Thankyou for that'll is there anything else I can do? I hope to god that the wait isn't too long!!!
As long as I'm there for August 29th I will be fine.

A K1 London who interviewed on the 16th in London has notification from DX that his visa will be delivered tomorrow, the 1st.

So that is 15 calendar days with the computer glitch in play. There is a thread in the UK forum of those affected and waiting on status changes and courier notification. (London interviews)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsK1 Visa - Change of Interview Location

Hi all,

I have recently had my K1 approved and asked to proceed with the medical and await the interview. I asked to have my interview in London, UK. However since its taken so long for the visa application to be processed, I have had to move to Qatar for work. I called up the Embassy in London and asked if they could transfer my case to Qatar, they said no... and advised me to start the process all over again ! I also sent a form to USCIS along with $400 to change the interview location, and they advised me that it will take 7 months to process, by which time the 4 months will be expired to complete the process.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any advice ?

Yes, I have known people to switch consulates because of having to leave the UK. They didn't file anything with USCIS or pay a fee. I don't even understand what you did or why so can't comment on that.

Calling the embassy in London-- there isn't a good way to speak to the IV Unit by phone. If you got somebody on the phone, it could have been the wrong visa section (tourist, student, etc) and that process is totally different. Many K1s have gotten completely wrong answers by calling. Use the visa contact form to communicate about your case. http://london.usemba...tact_form.html. Ask again how to transfer.

Some people make arrangements with new embassy by showing they reside there and have an approved petition in London. The new embassy agrees to process your case and they make the request for the file to be sent from London.

Also wondering how long you need to keep working since you could have the visa soon if you processed in London. Do you have your UK police certificate, shot records, birth certificate, etc with you already?

Whatever the reasons, the two denials have no carryover to deny a K1. That will be judged on if you qualify. London does not even want to see your "tons of picture together, hotel receipts, train tickets, plane tickets..." at the interview.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhere to pay $265 MRV fee?

Hi guys,

I finally have an appointment at the embassy after having my medical and everything! But how on earth do i pay the MRV fee? (I think thats what its called) It is now $265 and is non-refundable. I understand this fee pays for the actual visa. I have paid for a courier but have met no options to pay this fee. Can someone help?!

This explains the step by step in the London K1 guide http://www.visajourn...uide/?p=6741239

If you get out of order, the system used to be unforgiving and you couldn't go back through it to pay. Don't know if they worked that out or not.

Is it possible you went in the non-immigrant part instead of Immigrant which processes the K1 visas?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsinterview soon

I just got home today to find my interview is this Wednesday. I feel so under prepared. I have my police certificates the afadavit of support. My fiances tax returns etc for that. My birth certificate. Passport. American size photo. I've paid for the visa. I think I'm all set.

Guys how did you cope with the nerves I've literally been in tears reading this letter and thinking everything we have been through. Sorry about the poor structure of my topic I'm just all over the place right now

You got 2 days notice?!?! Crazy.

Sounds like you are well prepared to interview but overwhelmed with the excitement. Don't worry about the actual interview. Everybody seems to panic, then they post how it went and say "I don't know what I was so worried about"? But nobody believes a hundred people who say London is easy, so no way to calm you really. By next week you can be the one saying "calm down because it's s-o-o-o easy". :P

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsLondon Consulate - Military Expedite (No responses)
They won't give you any date until the results of the medical arrive. Maybe next week when they get that, they will respond.

Good luck getting her travel document (AP) and biometric appointment expedited so she can leave the US. I don't know if there are military exceptions, so that's why I asked. I don't keep up with at part of VJ.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsLondon Consulate - Military Expedite (No responses)

I've emailed them three times (once per week), and gotten absolutely NO response to a military expedite request. Called the consulate phone number, and upon actually getting a live person, they continuously defaulted to "Email is the only way to contact the embassy." Well, email isn't working at all.
 .

The contact form is the best way. Use reason "immigrant visa not covered by website". If you didn't use the form, then try it. http://london.usemba...ntact_form.html That is really the only way to get an answer. Be sure and tell them the date of the medical and that her other forms are in. Tell them she is able to accept a cancellation and attend on short notice. They could email and say to attend in two days.

What is the plan when you leave? Does she stay in the US until she completes AOS?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI-797, NOA2

Hi,

So we we're approved on the 15th and I received the hard copy of the NOA2 and I just wanted to confirm from people's past experiences that the Valid from/to box is the time frame the beneficiary has to initially enter the country? Also if that is the case is there any way to file for an extension or would it require restarting the entire process? I just want to make sure I have all the options on table to make the best moves possible I guess.

Thank you ll for your time who read/respond!

The approved petition is valid for 4 months. You need to only have your visa interview by expiration . If you can't have it by then LONDON asks for you to bring a new letter of intent from the US person to the interview. Not a problem at all. People are going to reply that it gets extended automatically. Maybe true at some embassies, but London does tell you to bring a new letter to revalidate the petition. Follow what London says.

Your visa will be valid for 6 months from the date of your medical exam. You have to enter the US before the visa expires.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsIs our wedding date safe?
It should be fine. It's not illegal to enter on VWP while a petition or visa is pending, anymore than any person going to Disneyland. They don't even know what's pending on the airport CBP computers. They can ask for proof that he has strong ties to the UK as an assurance he's not going to stay and try to adjust status on a tourist entry. Proof of job, lease, bills, bank account, and a return ticket are frequently mentioned in that regard. It would be best for him to not close out his UK life before then so he has some ties to show. Often they don't even ask. It depends on how often and how long he's visited before too---like if a person stayed 90 days, went home 3 weeks and came back saying they intended to stay 90 days again. That would draw more questioning. If he brought 3 suitcases full of winter clothing and it was inspected, that wouldn't look like a person going on summer holiday for a few weeks. And he should answer any direct questions but he doesn't have to volunteer his whole life story. May your profile "Friends Only".

If the timing looks like a visa interview conflicts with his trip, he can ask for a later date. If they schedule him one on August 1, he can ask for a sooner date or for any cancellation that opens up. They often do that. This is the kind of chatter you'll pick up in the UK forum that may come in handy when you're in that spot so start following that forum now http://www.visajourn...united-kingdom/

If you have a celebration that looks like a wedding, best for him to not carry bride/groom looking photos or either of you making them your facebook profile pic. Yes, they can look you up on facebook to check you out. I've heard stories of people denied when they entered with their K1 visa because they had wedding photos and were told a K1 visa wasn't appropriate because they were already married. Small things can trip you up so think it through.

If you post in the UK forum, I'll give you my list of what you can be doing while you wait on the petition approval.
Nich-NickNot TellingUnited Kingdom2011-12-10 15:25:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsIs our wedding date safe?
You can't really plan based on other people's timelines because~~

  • You might get a Request for Evidence (RFE) for a mistake or something missing that delays it.
  • The timelines for petition, NVC, and embassy can change. (Example: People in Aug/Sept were averaging 75 days (CSC) for petition approval. In Dec the chart is showing 138 days. What would an additional 50 day swing do to your timeline? London averages have swung between 50 and 100 days.)
  • People from other countries will tell you their timeline and each embassy has a totally different procedure and varies with how long they take.
  • Some people may have been more prepared with their embassy forms and had everything in order to move on it the day they got the okay from London. Others didn't plan ahead and spent a month or more getting their ducks in a row for the visa application procedure.
  • People get to the interview and find out they didn't have the right birth certificate or police report, or their passport was expiring too soon, or it had been washed and not acceptable, or the were put in additional security processing because they weren't born in the UK. So the visa isn't issued the next day and you fix what was wrong or wait out the AP.
  • Every application is as different as the people filing them

With all that said, you can minimize your time (after petition approval) by being extremely knowledgeable about what comes next, especially in London. You will learn alot from the UK regional forum. There's alot more UK experience over there. Start reading the posts and learning the tips and tricks or learn from the mistakes people make. My opinion is once you've learned how to file a fiance petition, then bail out of the K1 forum and start learning from the experiences of people going through your embassy or those who have already done it. The petition is generic, but the visa part is very country specific.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsDesperate!!

Today has been 1 month and 4 days since I rcvd the NOA1 and I am going crazy thinking how much longer this will take because I´ve seen ppl taking up to a year.... I hope this process won´t take much longer. =(

Your timeline says "Based on timeline data, your I129f may be adjudicated between July 26, 2012 and August 4, 2012". Then there's National visa Center and London embassy. So he could get the visa 2-3 months after early August. However looking at his photo, I am wondering if he was born in the UK, as well as his parents. If he is middle eastern, Pakistani, or Indian especially with a common name like Muhammad then he will most likely have additional processing after the visa interview. That can take weeks to many months with no way to speed it up. You might want to read the posts from this couple http://www.visajourn...ive-processing/ They are waiting for a decision since an October interview.

I am very desperate now thinking what should I do whether I can move or simply just continue working and waiting for any reply for them.

It would be helpful for you to continue working as you have to prove you earn enough for them to grant him a visa and later prove it again for his greencard. I guess I don't understand why you want to quit working. Did I miss something?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsInterview question for London Embassy

Hi All,
Have a quick question for anyone who has had an interview in London for K-1 visa. Has anyone had them look at the I-134 sponsorship information or pay slips very closley there? I have heard they do not look at that very hard there and consider it as something dealt with at the AOS stage. I just wonder because we do not have a sponsor and my (USC) income from my 2011 tax return isn't enough but my income this year will be enough. This is causing some stress and want to know if anyone has had any issues with it.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is one of the main things they look at. But if you've got an adequate income, London won't discuss it at all. I have known people to be sent to find another sponsor. If your pay slips show enough, they don't hold you to last year's tax return income.

I think that people on VJ (and maybe elsewhere) are led to believe the rules of the I-864 apply to the I-134. Not really. There is nothing in the law that says anything more than the officer must believe you won't become a public charge in those few months before you get settled in, a greencard, and a job. People are approved on 100% of the poverty guidelines, with or without a tax return, or by using the immigrant's savings. So in that sense, maybe London goes with that flow while other consulates might make a huge deal of it and get out thier calculators.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMarriage options, and the "when do you plan to get married" question

If I rock up to the K-1 interview and, later, the PoE and tell them we don't have a date yet, will it negatively affect our chances of getting approved?

Not at all. They are mainly wanting to know you understand you have 90 days once you use the visa. At a London interview it's more like chatting with somebody you just met...."so--when's the big day?" Acceptable answers are--as a soon as I get this visa; next month; we haven't decided yet; or an exact date. It's just a little conversation.

Has anyone got any advice on the idea of having a small 'legal' wedding first, then a bigger ceremony later, both in terms of personal experience, as well as how it looks during the whole process — AoS, etc? We don't want anyone to think that we just had a shotgun marriage or something.

A legal marriage with a certificate is all USCIS cares about. A "wedding" is optional, meaning the dresses, invites, theme, cake, etc.,

You need to read this thread now and ask your interview preparation questions in that thread. London 2012- K1s from NOA2 to interview thread Let's organize the info/questions into one place Knowing what K1s do in Manila or Toronto or Juarez won't help you in London. Each is different.

I sent all visa forms to embassy, paid visa fee over the phone. Printed reciept and read that i have to sign acknowledgement of recpt and send it back to embassy along with all forms. I have already sent my forms, what shall i do now? Any advice pls.

Thanks

Sign the receipt and take to the interview to show at the door and again to the document person you see before the interviewer.

PS. This is the kind of question you should ask in the UK forum because it's specific to an interview in London.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsQuestion regarding NOA2/London Embassy

.

We would like to know whether the two months that is given as the average time between NOA2 and the interview can be reduced depending on how organized the beneficiary is with returning forms, etc.

There's things you can be doing right now to reduce your time. See the first post in this UK FORUM thread http://www.visajourn...terview-thread/ then keep reading the whole thread for many tips. The police certificate link has changed and I can't edit the post but a correction is given later in the thread.

July/August is probably ambitious given you don't have petition approval yet, but you could get your London ducks in a row and be ready.

Go easy Nich- Nick... Did you take the the time to notice my EDIT and deferral to LeftCoastLady's comments? BTW, I was born in the USA...

I mean nothing against you and apologize if it sounded that way. I sincerely think that it is his/her decision and what seems comfortable to make them at ease going to the interview. There is alot on VJ that covers very strict consulates and makes people very nervous. I have experienced the consulate in London myself and have read everybody else's experiences in London for 4 years, so just offer that as an answer to the initial question. There is absolutely no reason to print Skype logs for London. They will not read them or file them. The time it takes to print all that is better spent reading every word and link on the London website so not miss the things that will hang one up.

Examples of things people mess up the most:
  • Not having the long form birth certificate.
  • Not having the proper police certificate from other countries if needed, like Australia for example, which has to be a version based on fingerprints taken at specific police departments in the UK
  • Not having an acceptable Affidavit of Support.
  • Not getting documentation of an offense if the police certificate says "no live trace" which means the conviction or caution may have been expunged but there is still a record on the books.
  • Showing up with a passport that has gone through the washer, or had suntan lotion spilled on it, or is about to expire.

I have all other evidence ready like tickets, photos, boarding passes, reciepts etc and all other supporting docs. Printing chat was the last step but was not sure how many i should print.
Thanks for your advise friends.

None of the above will be needed. Have you reviewed what London says to bring to the interview? Does it say any of those items? But you never know, you might be the first person ever in London.
We can only offer you our years of London experience or you can go with what a person from China says. It's after all, your interview and your choice.

Safe travels and wishes for sunshine on your big day.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsChange of address for Petitioner, almost to NOA2

Thanks SO MUCH for your advice. I know it's going to be a pain, but not moving is not an option, so I'll starting chasing it ASAP. Thanks again!

Be sure and use the words "I never received my approval notice because you didn't get my address changed". If you just say "I need a replacement", well that costs around $350. Make it their fault. Do call the number to report the change and tell them you have a pending case.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsChange of address for Petitioner, almost to NOA2

Hi guys
So as you can see, like many other fine VSC folks, I'm still waiting for the elusive NOA2, but I am moving on Saturday of this week. How do I deal with the change of address? We are so close to NOA2, do I just let it get bounced back after I move and just rely on the email that may or may not come? Will mailing a letter at this point help? Will it even get to my file?

Thanks for any advice.

Unfortunate timing. I've known many who put in change of address that didn't prevent NOAs or even greencards from going to the wrong address. Mail from USCIS won't be forwarded. You won't be slowed down from the process because you should get the email to know it's approved, then calling NVC will let you know how it's going there. However, you will 100% want to get that NOA2 document because a photocopy of it goes in with your Adjustment of Status application. If you don't get it because it was returned as non-deliverable you'll have to chase it down and try to get them to send again. Keep on top of it so you have it for AOS. Call the USCIS number now and explain the situation and ask what they suggest at this last minute change.

If it doesn't get changed, you won't get the letter from NVC saying your petition has been forwarded to London. You won't need that letter for anything. You can get the info about your LND number they assign over the phone.
