US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview Cost - Montreal
I know I've read this someplace, but can't find the info now. How much does the interview cost in Montreal? It's in American currency I believe.

Any assistance is appreciated!!!

Thanks

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDONE.....just waiting for the VISA to arrive
After a year the K1 VISA process is done. I had my interview on Tuesday and am just waiting for the VISA to arrive.

Words of wisdom?!?

Be patient.
Read everything top to bottom, backwards and forwards.
Be organized.
If you're not sure ASK!!! Call directly to whomever it is you need to ask. Don't rely on second hand information!!!

Visajourney has been an immense help. Some of the info can be a little outdated, but things change so fast sometimes it's hard to keep up. The consulate reviews came in EXTREMELY handy. I went to the US consulate in Montreal, Canada. I followed one of the reviews to the tee. Everyone else didn't have a clue where to go, what door or window, etc.

Can anyone tell me how to do a consular review? I've tried to click on the link while I've been logged in and it tells me I have to be registered!?!

One word of warning. When I got to the consulate, all my paperwork in hand and proud of it, I found out the DS-156 form I had was the wrong one!!! I was supposed to do it online. The online form produces a barcode on the form. The ones the consulate sent me in my packet don't have the barcode. Unfortunately, they didn't send me the little supplemental page that informed me that I HAD to use the online forms. I was told to proceed with the interview process and either go to an internet cafe and fill out the forms, or go home and mail them. I went to internet cafe around the corner. I was given a pass to get back into the consulate, since they took my passport. Everyone was really good about everything.

Take care and best of luck to everyone!!!

ps....it's really not all that bad....it just takes a long time!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCurrent Status and other questions!!!
I applied for Adjustment of Status, Green Card and Advanced Parole. I received the AP and Green Card. I'm uncertain about a couple of things.

1. What is my current status?
2. My green card has an expiry date of one year. I have to apply to extend it 90 days before the expiry?
3. I can travel outside the US with the AP, but I've seen people state that the Green Card will allow travel. My Green Card states "not valid for reentry to the US". Does that change at some time?
4. Is there anything else to do until the interview?
5. We rent an apartment. They would NOT put me on the lease agreement because I'm not a US citizen. Is there some legal (USCIS) information I can show them that will tell them it's ok to put my name on the lease?

Sorry for the lengthy list, but I want to make sure that things go smoothly from here on in. We've had our share of delays, but it was amazing to finally get the Green Card.

Thank you for any assistance.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTransfer Notice - I'm confused!!!!!!!
After filing and expecting the NOA2 by the end of June, I was delighted to get another I-797C in the mail this morning....until I opened it. They have transfered my case to California, even though I live in Wisconsin and the official USCIS site STILL says I should send the I-129F to Nebraska....which is what I did.

This link shows there have been changes to where applications are supposed to be mailed

USCIS.GOV FORMS AND FEES

And it states

"NOTE: Effective 4/01/06, the filing addresses for Forms I-129, I-140, I-485, I-539, I-765, and I-907 will change. Address information will be available from each document’s Forms Entry Page, linked below. "

But when I follow the link to the I-129F form USCIS.GOV I-129F FORM....it states clearly on the form that if you live in Wisconsin it gets mailed to Nebraska!!!!!

So they've had the case since early April and they couldn't have sent this through a little faster??? I know they have a lot of cases and files to review but really!!! That's 2 months wasted time for the file to be sitting on someone's desk only to be transferred to another office.

I just had to complain somewhere, because I know it won't help to contact them and complain. It may only get the file sent back to Nebraska to start all over again.....AGAIN!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 received
I checked the USCIS website this morning to find that "this case has been approved". We received an RFE on July 3 and approval on August 12. It's moving in the right direction and hopefully will have an interview before the end of the year.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview Date - FINALLY!!!
I called the consulate in Montreal at the end of January. They said there were some delays but I should be getting my interview around the end of Feb or early March. I didn't receive a letter, so I called again today. I was on hold forever, but when they look at my info, she asks if I can come earlier, as she has a cancellation. I tell her I have loose ends to take care of, how soon is she talking about? March 15. That's two weeks. I would have jumped at the chance, but it wasn't going to work out for me. So I had to settle for April 10. She booked the date over the phone. Obviously my application had been approved. But if I knew I could have called and got an earlier 'cancelled' date, I would have been on the phone more often.

Oh well. I've got the date and am delighted. It was a long process, but it DOES happen.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFormer Wedding Certificate needed???
I'm putting together my interview package, and the DS-156K shows a list of items needed to go in the package. One of the items it lists is marriage certificate. Do I need to include a marriage certificate for a marriage that I have a divorce decree for? Or is the divorce decree sufficient?

Thanks for any assistance!
