Middle East and North AfricaMandatory AP- Jordan
AP is not really that bad, just time comsuming. When our men live in high risk countries it is to be expected. It is just a background check, and depending on how common his name kinda depends on how long it can take, but not always. They have there reasons for AP even if it is a pain in the butt for us. I rather know my fiance/husband was not a bad man. That would be devasting to find out later IMO.

So i have been hearing a lot about AP in Amman...and it is really freaking me out my Fiance's interview is on Monday... so is it true? Is going through AP mandatory in Amman? My fiance is 25... I really hope he doesnt have to go through AP... I will be devastated... seriously.

It could be possible.

That's very interesting. My husband is from Lebanon and we are entering the NVC stage. I wonder if this will be the same case for Lebanon. :innocent:

Because he will submit the forms required when he checks in before the interview and that will give them time to look them over. As with the police clearence and medical and all they come from offical places so they do not have to validate them.

Yea they did I have everything very organized too I might Add... but it doesn't seem odd? how can they confirm the information?

Last time i flew there was Feb of 2010. It was a international airport then. But no flight from Europe flew in direct. So if Air France is flying in there now that would be great. But check to make sure first. I know ur guy said his sis does it all the time. But all that time could be in the very recent last year. And u will find out it still costs more to fly futher into Morocco vrs. Casa. It is the same way in Egypt. It might be cheaper to fly into Casa then purchase a direct flight from the airport there chaper. So check all ur options frist.

I have flown into Ouijda. You still have to go through Casablanca. And it is a extra $400-500extra, hardly worth the price. And on my flight back i could not find any that was more then a 50 min layover to do a plane change. My bags did not make it with me. And it was the worst 50 min plane change ever cuz you have to go through customs and oujida aiport will stamp the passport and they want you to have your passport stamped there in casa and I had to show them where they stamped and it slowed me down. When I got to the terminal the pl had already boarded the plane. I would not choose to do that again. But the stewards from casa to ouijda was cute..lol

P.s. I am orginally from Michigan and have flown out of detroit that was the worst flight to morocco. We was having winter storms..omg so much turbulance. It was like a rollar coaster rid gone wrong, the whole flight.

Goodness! Well, I will check out the south of Oujda then. I am trying to find out about flying to Oujda, especially now that they have an international airport, maybe via Paris next time. I about died coming back the last time - bus to Casa, flight to Lisbon, sleeping in the airport overnight, flight to Newark, sleeping in the airport overnight, flight to Michigan - I smelled pretty bad by the end of that trip :/

I have took the 11 hour train ride from Rabat to Oujida and I have flown into Oujida. But then i did get locked in the women's bathroom stall in Oujda train station too...lol I had to be saved....lol. I spent a lot of time south of oujda, very interesting on that side. And often missed.

Aw, that's nice. I don't think there are a lot from Oujda. It's a long trip from here to there, but it has been the sweetest trip in the world :)

Oh wow your guy is from Ouijda, that brings back memories. Most times the ladies men are from the bigger central cities not the eastern cities. I been in Oujida a lot.

Can you tell me how long it took from when you mailed to when he received? Also, do you know how long Fed Ex will hold mail there in Casablanca. I might do this route, rather than try to send to Oujda, which took about a month the last time.

Does not mater where the post goes to P.O.Box or to there house if it does not clear customs or at least clear the post office from greedy fingers your not going to get it. I have sent many letters and packages to my ex in Morocco. And always they have at the very least open to check them and it is very common for them to take things out of the packages and the person does not recieve all of the things. Which is why I refuse to send anything to Egypt now, it is not any better. They see U.S.A. and they think money. Or at the very least things they can take and sell. Sorry but it happens.

Middle East and North Africaemergency help!!!
I totaly agree. But how does the child get to know his father till he becomes of age? And if the divorce is done through america, that does not mean when the child becomes of age the the courts there will honor this. He will have to have a lot of money with a good lawyer to even get visitation rights to his child, if the divorce occurs in the states. Not like he can go to the states and make a parenting plan. And I think at this point the divorce is not the issue as much as he wants to make sure he has a relationship of some kind with his child and not lose him forever.

The family code in Morocco is based on islamic law and the same goes for Algeria and most other muslim countries. The mother is granted custody of children after divorce and then when they reach the age of reason they are allowed to choose which parent they want to live with. Unless the mother is unfit, and the mother simply not being muslim(which we're not even sure is the case) doesn't make her unfit, then she gets the child...islamically and culturally. Even if we want to look deeper into the islamic laws then if a mom is unfit her muslim family would get custody of the child after her, followed by his family, and lastly him.

I'm not judging him through some American lens. I'm muslim and married to a man from the same culture, religion, and language as the OP for nearly a decade. I'm not saying he shouldn't see his child, but I think a child that small belongs with their mother as long as she is capable.

Middle East and North Africaemergency help!!!
Ok I will try to explain this the best I can. I assume she is living in the states right now with your son. Their is 3 ways to do this, only 2 are kinda easy. The first way is she may suggest that you go to the american consulant and sign a paper on divorce. And all that says is yes you want a divorce and her lawyer collects that paper and it happens (but you may not get any rights to your son). The second way is she comes to morocco and hires a lawyer there and you go through the process there, which gives you a advantage. But I assume she will not do that if she lives and works in the states as that would be time comusing. The third option is a international divorce and that will be expensive and I am not sure she realizes that. And can take a long time. You have the right to your son, so talk to a lawyer there that has knowledge on international laws. That is the best advise i can give you on that. And if anyone else knows something i don't feel free to add to it.i had a friend that went through a international divorce so that is why I know some of the steps. Hope this helps.

Middle East and North AfricaEgypt - Pregnant - Should She Tell Him?
What I meant is that when we got married less then a year ago. It was made very clear to me that if he said no I could not leave then I could not. But then I was also married in Egypt, not america. And no i did not say that i was not free to travel per the contract I said that it say it is a contract and he has a lot of control by it. If it did not come across like that it is what i meant. But since she is planning her trip back and she is unsure as to how he would react i think keeping it to her self till she feels she is safe would be best IMO. As you see she has not replied this subject since it has been brought back fresh. So I am sure she has reached her decision. And that is the most important part.

So, it was written into your marriage contract that you were not free to travel? Is that what you're saying because mine says nothing of it.

Whatever.

What matters here is that you insist her husband can detain her. Color me silly, but I wouldn't take legal advice from a translator. I would, and have, listened carefully to every bit of advice the U.S. Embassy in Cairo had to offer.

SHE IS FREE TO LEAVE.

Cute camel picture! Oh my gosh Nancy I am sooooo jealous! Of course when it's May and we're done with school and you guys go into June I guess it will all balance out. :P Batta what earthquake scare?? Are you guys ok there? Was it in Chicago? Oh I hope Baj and her fiance are ok. I'm sure they will be but man, it seems like when it rains it pours!

Another busy day today and another late meeting. Tomorrow though we are going to the roller coasters! I LOVE teaching physics for this reason. We're going to go play and apply what we learned this term and everyone else has to stay at school. :innocent: Everyone have a great day!

Well actually we wont be having to makeup any days. We have 13 days built into our schedule for snow days. So far this year we have only used 8 so unless we have more than 5 of the snow days remaining we wont have to make anything up.

Whats going on with ur case these days? Have you gotten the NOA2 yet?

Middle East and North AfricaMajic Jack

You mean the loophole of deceiving magic jack by inputting a local US number and using that one in Morocco? More than just a loophole, it is fraud and deception. Maybe cheaters will get HUGE bill from magic jack for all the past free minutes....Good luck with it.

Who wouldnt get through a loophole to be able to call internationally at a cheaper price? No huge bills whatsoever. My dad is in Egypt right now and has Magic Jack to call my mom daily and it has saved them so much money and enabled them to stay in touch more often.

My dad called us earlier today from Magic Jack so I dont think the problem is in all countries. Sometimes if the internet connection is weak it can cause it to not work. Have you tried to go to the Magic Jack website and troubleshoot it? Hope you get it up and running again very soon.

Norie, I also live in TN. Where in TN are you? I agree with you on there not being many options as far as foreigners here in TN. But there are actually quite a few single Arabs where I live. Maybe if you dont live too far from here we could meet up. PM anytime you want and we can discuss it further. I am also married to someone from Egypt, which is the consulate you were asking about. He got here about 4 months ago. His AP in Egypt was about 2 and 1/2 months. Almost everyone out of Egypt gets AP but some have gotten lucky and gotten in the visa in one to two weeks. Hope to hear from you soon!!

This post is for sharing stories for people with similar experiences, not for ugly comments or advice. I also never mentioned being surprised as this has been going on for more than three years. Thanks for you opinion.

I completely agree Meghan. I dont really see what the point was of writing that. She is looking for similar stories and ideas on maybe how to improve this situation. Meghan, I think what you are doing is amazing and Allah will reward you. You will even be rewarded more for temptations that are put in front of you. Take care and hope you get some useful ideas and advice.

Hi MENA peeps. I see there is a lot of good news these days. So glad to hear that everyone is doing well. I try to get on at least once a week to catch up on everything but between working full-time, being in school for my PhD and the pregnancy.........life is busy. Cant wait til xmas break so that I will have a break from work and classes. Betsy, that's awesome about your husband getting his teaching certificate to teach Arabic. Are there many K-12 schools that offer Arabic? I saw that you mentioned something about ESL. I actually teach ESL for K-5 and he would have to get a separate certification to be able to teach it or he could just add it on to his current teaching license.

I am so excited about Black Friday. I know that might seem strange to some but I love shopping and the excitement of it all on that day. Everyone take care and keep the good news coming.
