It would be interesting to see, through pictures, how life turned out for those of us who have moved here in the US. Please post bits and pieces of your slice of the American pie. I'll start.

my sweet parents-in-law, couldn't ask for better in-laws.

our beloved white shepherd, Spirit, went to dog heaven on March 3, 2009. he was supposed to turn 14 yrs. old tomorrow, April 13. Spirit is sorely missed.

my son is attending Washington State University and is moving out of the house in the fall. not sure if I should be happy or sad unsure.gif

my workplace, the kitchen. please ignore the dirty dishes blush.gif

Life in the US has been good so far.

aaawwww.......i wish I have something to share....soon Ate!

Condolences for your dog too.....

and i soooo LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the kitchen!!!

While waiting for your flight here, spend as much time as you can with your family and friends in Pinas co'z you are really going to miss them. My first 2 weeks was exciting coz I was busy with hubby and going places and do stuff together but later I realized...wait a min, I am not here for a vacation...this is my new home now...my new life...and then later hubby find me crying secretly at night when I miss my family LOL Just be prepared to deal with homesickness. When you get here, you might want to apply for SSN if you are planning to work right away. With the immigration matter, you don't have much things to do yet until you applied for removal of conditions...and that would be 90 days before your conditional GC expires.

Have a fun and safe trip! wink.gif

Hi There,

I understand, the stamp which would be given to me at the POE is my temporary GC, right?

With my temporary GC, can I already apply for a job provided I have the SSN?

Where can I apply for an SSN?

I plan to work January or February when winter is over as for sure I will be doing a lot of adjustments. But I want to help my Hubby by having my own job, hopefully early next year.

By the way I will going there on a CR1 visa. I just need some clarifications if I got it well.

* I would get my GC within 30 days, ryt?

* Then 3 months before the expiration of my two-year GC, I need to file for AOS?

Thank you ellmvl.

Have a safe flight sis! enjoy your time with your family......

* Well, some recieved their GC within 30 days and some less than 30days, but for me...i still don't have my GC and it will be 2months now....

* 3 months before your conditional visa expires you should lift your condition, that would be the 10-year GC...

* for the SSN, some received it and some don't. but i suggest you to go apply for SSN, it will just take 2weeks or less.....so you can start finding a job.

Goodluck!

the part about having been a prostitute or not is a yes or no, not a maybe only if arrested.

Yes sir, in my opinion....if i have been engaged in a prostitution, and wasn't arrested..then I wouldn't have proofs in NBI or any police records...then I can escape that question easily....(just correct me if imwrong please...hehe)

you'd be wrong to answer it no if you had. and misrepresentation earns a lifetime ban.

Yes, i know that sir....but how would they know or what proof?

Sorry for this, coz i don't know where I read it (not in VJ)..but the girl that has been engaged in prostitution denied it because of no proof and been granted visa.

here goes,

My Fiancee fessed up to me on the phone just earlier, she comes from a poor family for Hilongos Leyte, she left and went to Manila to find a job, when I met her she was working at a waterstation. Now here is the kicker, she said its been on her mind for a very long time and wanted to tell me this so she can clear her conscience. During our conversation out of the blue she told me that she needed to tell me something, she said she used to work at a BEER HOUSE and would have sex with men for money, she claims she only went out 3 times till she no longer can take it as she was starting to lose respect for herself. Should I be affected by this ? should I lose sleep over this ? right now I am in a world of confusion and so much thoughts are racing thru my mind.

WHAT DO I DO ?

WHAT would you guys do ?

ADVISE ME PLEASE ?

I am so sorry sad.gif I hear you buddy!

In our society today, common prostitution is just in the corner. We cannot pinpoint if the caused of this act, by poverty or something that urged them to do just for fun of it. Or we may call it for pleasure or better than that it thrills them to do it... Mostly, youngster of today was not left by society in guidance: If what is good or bad. We are intittled to our own choice in life.

It's not only the poor people who commits prostitution, being rich or having a good paying job is free from prostitution. You will be shocked to know that rich stupid people do it too...just for fun!

your fiancee earned my respect here...not all people has the guts telling this to the person who they really love. I know deep inside her, she knows what would be her consequence after telling you of her past....but did it crossed your mind too, that she surely do love you this much that she risked by telling her deep dark secret?

If she was not arrested of prostitution, she is free of not answering the question if she has been engaged in prostitution.

Yes, it would be easy to find someone after dumping her...and you'll start from scratch again...and I know this situation will affect you finding someone in the future..and that wouldn't help you, it will make you more confused.

If you can forgive and forget, then go. IF NOT, then you can let her go..it's really hard to earn trust and respect again.. and its hard living with the past..there will come a time that this thing will be opened again and that will be a yuckie argument......But then again, its still your decision....smile.gif

just my 2 cents....

NEW HOPE FOR PEOPLE WHO “ADMITTED” DRUG USE TO DOCTORS AT ST. LUKE’S

By Michael J. Gurfinkel

In two recent decisions, the Administrative Appeals Office (AAO) held that when an alien was not given an adequate definition of a drug crime, including all essential elements, any admission or confession by that alien of the crime could not be used against him for immigration purposes. This is great news for people who were refused their visas due to admitting drug use during their medical exam at St. Luke’s, Manila. If they did not receive an adequate definition of the crime, or warning about the consequences of admitting drug use (which is a lifetime ban), there may still be hope!

By way of background, in 2002, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, in Pazcoguin vs. Radcliffe, held that an alien could be banned for life for admitting, to the doctors at St. Luke’s, that the alien had “used” drugs in the past. The ban applied even if the alien was never charged or convicted of any drug crime, and even if his drug test turned out to be “negative.” The lifetime ban results from the alien’s mere admission to the doctor or psychiatrist, of the use of marijuana or some other prohibited drugs in the past, even if the use occurred many years ago. Thus, people petitioned by US citizen spouses, other relatives, employers, etc., and had waited years for their petition to be current, found themselves banned for life, when the doctors asked if they ever tried marijuana or other drugs at any time in their life, and they said “yes.”

The AAO disagreed with the Ninth Circuit’s reasoning in Pazcoguin. First, the AAO held that because the alien’s residence was in the Philippines, and not the Ninth Circuit (which encompasses the western states), the Pazcoguin case was not controlling authority, and the AAO was not bound by the 9th Circuit’s ruling outside of the Ninth Circuit’s jurisdiction.

Second, the AAO stated that AAO “conducts the final administrative review and enters the ultimate decision for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on all immigration matters that fall within its jurisdiction.” Therefore, it would be the AAO, not the Ninth Circuit, that would have the “final say” in cases arising outside the jurisdiction of the Ninth Circuit.

Third, in a decision by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), Matter of K, the BIA held that the “validity” of an admission (or confession) for purposes of inadmissibility, required that the alien “be given an adequate definition of the crime, including all essential elements, and that it be explained in understandable terms.” The reason for this rule is to ensure that, “the alien would receive fair play and to preclude any possible later claim by him that he had been unwittingly entrapped into admitting the commission of a crime involving moral turpitude.” Also, it must be explained in plain English.

In these recent AAO cases, (one involving a petition by a US citizen spouse, and the other a petition by a parent), the applicants admitted to drug use only during a medical/psychiatric examination at St. Luke’s, in connection with immigrant visa processing. There was no evidence showing that the applicants were provided with an adequate definition of any crime. Further, the applicants were never charged with, or convicted of, any illicit drug crime.

The AAO further noted that the St. Luke’s doctors and psychiatrists who obtained the admission or confession about drug use, “did not provide the petitioner with a definition of a crime to which he was admitting the essential elements.” Thus, no adequate warning was given to the applicants. Accordingly, under Matter of K, that admission or confession of drug use could not be used against the applicant.

Moreover, the AAO noted that doctors and psychiatrists at St. Luke’s perform “examinations for the benefit of the U.S. government to determine if grounds exist that render aliens inadmissible to the U.S.” Therefore, there is no reason why the St. Luke’s psychiatrists or doctors should be exempt from providing adequate warnings or definitions of crimes, especially when the admission they obtained would later be used by the Embassy to ban the visa applicant for life for admitting drug use.

The AAO concluded that, “the evidence in the record is insufficient to support a finding that the applicant is inadmissible.” Therefore, the applicant’s waiver application “is unnecessary.”

If you or your relative were banned for life for admitting drug use, these AAO decisions are great news. I strongly suggest that you seek the advice of a reputable attorney, who can evaluate your situation, and hopefully help lift the lifetime ban (for admitting drug use) because the admission or confession of drug use was not properly obtained.

PhilippinesA Good Provider Is One Who Leaves
SAD but true. Our father left us when I was 2 and my younger sister 1. Afraid that he might not support us financially, he sacrificed and went to Saudi Arabia as a Communication Engineer, which is 5 times bigger than his salary when he was working in the Philippines.
Imagine leaving your 2 and 1 year old daughters and not seeing them grow, not be able to hug them when they cry because of an imaginary ghost on their closet, a call from them during christmas and new year just to say thank you for the balikbayan box you send, or a call from them that they recieved an award or a star in school but you weren't there to share that happiness with them.
I'm an 80's baby, and we dont have email, webcams or yahoo messenger,or skype before. We just call my father once a week or send him mix tape with us singing and saying how much we love him.
I remembered the time that all me and my siblings do is ask something from him (spoiled little brats as we call it) we know that he won't say "no", that is when I realized how selfish we were to him.
And now that I'm already here in US, I feel what my father felt when he was away from us. He must be thinking of going home a gazillion times, but never did because all he thinks about is giving us a good future.

So, for those people who have parents or loved ones sacrificed being away from them to give them a better future , I salute them! And my prayers are with them....

They are the true HEROES! and im glad we have our own hero at home :)

PhilippinesYou're lucky to have him

I met hundred of Filipinos in United States specifically California, Nevada, and Filipinas on internet I chatted with. Sometimes, I'm wondering how my other fellow Filipinos think or feel or handle about people who say you're lucky to have him once they found out about your status. I personally didn't dream of marrying an American, but a Briton man. Yes, I did date someone from London for four years. I broke up with him due to his perfectionist problem. For example: he told me how to sit, how to hold glass, spoon, teaspoon, don't burp like a cow, and so on! Of course, I appreciated he taught me how to be formal included how should I live my life. However, I get pretty little suspicious with women telling me HOW LUCKY I AM TO HAVE MY HUSBAND BECUASE HE BROUGHT ME IN UNITED STATES. Honestly, I become skeptical about women from my own country that some of them may not looking for genuine relationship, but take advantage of foreigner men looking for good Filipinas-we are known as good mother and wife.

Here is my questions:
1.) Do you believed in choosing partner that you have to be wise or just go with I may be lucky with him?
or
2.) What do you think of Filipina women that just looking for men on internet hoping to get lucky?

3.)Do you ever think it will affect our next generations if we get more bad Filipinos in US? If yes, are you willing to help the immigration someday to prevent this case?

Is that line really bothering you too much that you are willing to help immigration with fraud issues?

We have 2 main reasons why we are here...its either we are using our heart (LOVE), because we want to be with the person we love and being practical, which they always say as fraud or just using USC to seek greener pasture.

Whichever, who cares?! that's their life....

And how will you define "BAD FILIPINOS"? are those the one who kill, rob banks? or because they commit fraud that they are BAD? then I would say Filipinos are not the only people who are bad here in US, some countries do that too. So are you also gonna report them to immigration too?

Maybe friends tell you that you are lucky that your husband brought you here because they know that your husband love you so much that he wants you to be with him, that's why he put forth effort to bring you here. IT's not that easy to bring someone here, you have to have a lots and lots and lots and lots of patience for that.

And if you are worried that maybe in the future your kids would meet those BAD FILIPINOS, then tell them to stay away from them. It's still how you raise your kids, how you teach them moral values in life.

And sweetie, don't think about other people's life too much......it will kill you.

And they are gazillion of Filipinos ive met na mayayabang nakatungtong lang sa states, but excuse me, i wont waste my time thinking of them or thinking why they are here or whatever reasons they have.....i have my life and they have theirs.....ika nga ni claudine ""MAHAL MO BA KO DAHIL KAILANGAN MO KO? O KAILANGAN MO KO KASI MAHAL MO KO"?--from movie MILAN....so whatever reason they have, its their choice....at ika nga ni John Lloyd kay Bea "...AND YOU CHOSE TO BREAK MY HEART" (and that's for the BAD FILIPINOS who chose to break someone's heart just to be here)

just my 2 cents everyone.....just my 2 cents! inuulit ko po....just my 2 cents!

QUOTE (luckymom @ Jul 31 2009, 12:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Many reasons why I'm saying I'm happy to have him in my life:

Brings me flowers even without occasion
Doesn't forget to say "I love you"
Love and care for my kids (though he has no experience having one)
Very responsible in all aspects
Prioritize our relationship
Clean living
Watching movies and TV shows with me (not all the time of course)
Loves his mom (the first thing that strikes me of him)
Very honest
Still a kid at heart sometimes
Sense of humor
Hardworker
Very smart
Handyman

So many that those are the obvious qualities that he has. Our relationship isn't perfect but it qualifies as close to ideal.

Wow! "BIG CATCH" Mommy! good.gif

There will never be a perfect relationship.....sometimes if its too perfect, its getting boring.....

I love HIM because he make me smile, he teach me how to LOVE GOD more than anything else.
I love him because even if he dsnt how to cook he cooks breakfast for me, overcooked pancakes hotdogs, salty eggs will still taste good for me.
I love him because his very annoying singing voice is music to my ears. I love him because I just love HIM!

how about you Ate? shaving legs? well, i advise waxing legs than shaving...coz when you shave within 2-3 days it grows....and thicker....wax last like 3weeks to a month plus softer to touch....

I wax my armpits too....i really dont like hairs in my body... devil.gif (i dont mean that i have lots of hairs on my armpit...i have like very thin and very small one....so i wax.......tee hee

I dont shave ,i dont need to star_smile.gif i rather shave something else.. blush.gif

and what would that SOMETHING ESLE be?!! laughing.gif laughing.gif laughing.gif

PhilippinesDoes your wife think the US is too cold ?

I used to try to get a rise out of Merlaine by telling her what the temp was here off and on. I'd tell her "baby, it's 15 degrees here today" and I never got a reaction from her at all. Then I finally asked her what the temp was there and she had no idea. It dawned on me that she has no idea at all what 15 would feel like. She's never felt 60 much less a -20 windchill like we're having now! LOL I'm taking her straight to the mall to clothes shop when she gets here ;) lol

Hahaha...i have the same answer when they ask me about the temperature in the Philippines. All we know is we have summer, rainy days and typhoon! we just have HOT and COLD weather..PERIOD! we don't care what temperature it is.

Hey,it's not really fun adjusting to the temp here...Pinays are flipflops, shorts, sleeveless chick...

Sometimes I don't feel like going out, coz I feel so overdress sometimes. People here in TN says its just chilly, Chilly?!! i couldn't even walk outside without my knees shaking and talk without my jaw shaking too....men, its freaking freezing!

Philippinesanyone got visa? interview on feb 3,2010
You can call the embassy to find out if the visa has been sent already or you can call DOS to find out the status. You can also call the delivery company it is being sent through and find out if it is on the way to your house.
