Try to keep yourself as busy as possible so that you wont have much time to think about all of this. Do something nice for yourself...........go get a pedicure or a massage!!! Things will easier and easier day by day even if it doesnt seem possible right now. One day you will look back on this and feel so relieved that you didnt continue in a relationship with him. Keeping you in my prayers!!

I have been getting my info from Egyptian Media mostly. Can you please explain to me what this video is? or at least what you have been told it is. Because I know you wouldn't know on your own. Can you please give me your source?

Yes, I've heard of that. Of course it's a sad thing not to be justified, but what do you think caused that?
[/quote]

So now you think that what the Algerians did was not jusitified even though earlier you were saying that Egyptians were the cause of these problems. Disrespectful and immoral fans are the cause of all this. Have you heard of any Algerians hiding out in peoples houses in Egypt like what the Egyptians are having to do in Algeria right now? Have you heard of any Algerian companies being demolished due to these games? It just bothers me that you were so fast to accuse the Egyptians but as soon as I answered and sent a video you decided to say that what happened was not justified. I dont want to have an argument, but I really think you should check all your sources before you try to point fingers.

He's talking about the tons of news reports, special talk shows and videos showing in the Middle East about Algeria and Egypt.

News reports of Algeria faking the attack on the bus: No broken glass inside the bus but windows busted outside and proving that they were trying to have the match played outside the country by setting up a hoax attack. Videos showing this has been all over the news there. There was also an article about a Israeli news reporter (who is Palestian if I remember correctly) that tried to instigate fights in Cairo during the first match and Egypt had him detained and deported back to Israel. Je caused a lot of problems posing as a crazed Algerian fan in the streets.

News reports of Algeria preparing to release or releasing prisoners to attack Egyptian fans, etc if they were to win the match in Sudan.

News reports of Algeria's attacks (1 death I heard about, not sure about the rape tho) on innocent Egyptian fans, business owners, etc right after the match that has continued. They have even posted numbers to Egytian citizens in Sudan to get them free plane rides home quickly to avoid any more violence.

The videos and articles are on famous talk shows and news there as well as reported on Al Jazerra.

There are reports of Egytians going to protest and retaliate at the Algerian embassy in Cairo however, I'm not sure what has transpired in the past 12 hours...so who knows.

It is all very sad that any innocent fan would be injured or killed whether Egyptian or Algerian.

You're talking about the same talk shows who created all these problems? I read a lot of articles about this issue from neutral news sources, and I think Egyptians need to learn to respect their opponents, fair play, and accept defeat as part of the game.

You think Egypt is the one that needs to learn respect and accepting defeat?? Where have you been getting your information on what has happened at the games and afterwards? But I will just share a link to a short video since actions speak louder than words...........http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaiM9B6g42M

Middle East and North AfricaAnd the AP Continues!
Im not sure if the actual case file gets sent to the US for AP. I was under the impression that the embassy just sends info that they require to Washington via the internet and wait for the results. I could be wrong about that though. Does anyone know whether AP is done electronically or with actual case files?

Middle East and North AfricaVisa interviews in Egypt

My husband is from Egypt, but works in Qatar.........we interviewed on Dec 13th, i was with him, the CO said everything looked good, just needed routine AP. They didn't keep his passport.......

then 2 weeks ago the embassy called his boss to confirm his employment, then immediately the embassy called my husband and asked interview questions again, then they called me right after him at midnight calif time and also asked me interview questions again.

They called my husband again last week to ask him his salary, how many brothers/sisters we each have and about our parents. So we're really hoping they are done with all the questions and any other AP and ISA this will be our week/month also with all of you, we just want to be together and start our life, is that too much to ask??? :star:

Good luck to everyone :star:

No it is definitely not too much to ask. Isa it sounds like the AP is almost over and your husband will be asked to send in his passport very soon. I am praying that we also have the visa in hand soon so that we can begin our life together.

Middle East and North AfricaVisa interviews in Egypt

Thank you all much. I did call DOS and they just told me he was in AP for name check but really nothing more than that. I have emailed the embassy alot and get the the usual message from them "your case is pending madatory administrative processing" I dont know why the CO would tell my husband he was approved and not to worry and they would send for his passport in 1 week, when she didnt keep his passport so she really already knew it would be a lengthy AP. I hope and pray we are all out of AP soon and our SO receive their visas and we are reunited with them very soon.

Unfortunately there is no rhyme or reason to what the embassy does. As far as them saying one week....it was untrue. I think that they tell people just about anything to just comfort them and get them out of the office IMO. The Cairo Embassy is notorious for telling people timeframes that are inaccurate. But dont get your spirits down. Hopefully they will give all of us the visa this month so we can all begin our lives together.

Middle East and North AfricaVisa interviews in Egypt
The passport is usually kept if the visa is expected to be given quickly, but if the case requires a lengthy AP then the passport is not taken and when the AP is finished they send an email or call requesting that the passport be sent in to them. My husband's passport was kept at the interview on Nov 9th and as of today he has still not received his visa. Have you tried calling DOS or the embassy to find out the status of your case? Also there is a lot of useful info in the Cairo Final Review Club topic that you might want to read. Praying that we all get the visa in hand soon.

Middle East and North Africadevistated...now what?

Like most of you we have been through this visa journey, all the ups and downs and all the waiting. I myself made 4 trips to kuwait. We worked hard to stay together. Alas we got our visa, it was delivered and we were so happy. Every time we were together or talking on the phone and when we lived together we were happy and I felt loved and happy and content. Then it started. I NEVER saw it coming. Now I am not a stupid person..I am highly educated and I met my husband before agreeing to marry. We talked on the net 2 years before I finally agreed to meet him...(he pressured me this entire time) When I did meet him we felt it was right and we proceeded with the very difficult process of getting married, having our marriage authenticated in the usa and then beginning the visa process 19 months ago.The visa was issued early nov...my husband said I need to give notice,,,,well of course I was fine with that...so he did..30 days. Then he had to wait to get his "rights"...ok Its not that much money but I am sure it meant alot to him. Then he had to go to Jordan to visit his family. He spent 4 months of the summer there and 2 weeks at EID..well I am not going to stand between him and his family...ok. So last wed..was the last day I really spoke to him...thursday I heard nothing, the phone was turned off. I thought ok well Ill try the jordanian phone ..sure enough.I could only talk 5 min because I was at work and had 10 people talking to me..I said Ill call you back in 5 min. I call back in 5 min, the phone is turned off. I could not reach him and still havent talked to him. I thought he was dead...I searched newspapers anything that would give me any hospital notes or obituaries. Finally at 4 am on Monday I receive an email...basically stating his parents were devistated that he had married me. I had not met them because we were never in the same country at the same time. But he had told me he told them, they werent happy but had accepted. (they wanted him to marry his cousin originally) Now this is not a child, this a grown man. The email was so bizzarre I have never seen anything like it. Basically it siad there was a huge drama and his passport and visa were destroyed and that I should leave him alone and go away forever. Of course I dont believe any of that #######. Naturally I shot some nasty emails back regarding him and his family out of anger. So the next day I got an email stating that we are divorced. In Islam you can divorce by saying it to your partner..but it was never "said" to me...it was emailed to me...so I do not believe that even in Islam we are divorced. However in any case we are married legally here in the United States. Now I have been speculating all this time between tears about what really happened and I guess it really doesnt matter, except that I would like some closure and i want to hurt him.
I suspect of course that he is in the states and that is why he isnt calling me because I can track him easier. The next scenerio is that he is at home with another wife or just a very upset family. Who knows.
I called ICE and I called USCIS. They told me I am finacially responsible for him if he is here, No matter what. ICE will investigate. I also emailed the US embassies in Kuwait and Jordan and also the Jordanian embassy here. I have contacted an attorney and I have had the police run all his passport info....as of 2 days ago he had not entered the usa
I just want closure. And repayment of all the money I spent on trips , apartments, visa expenses and maybe an "im sorry" which never happened.
You know we griped and complained about the process taking so long but it still didnt protect me...and maybe because I didnt take the steps to protect myself. He was to be here this week I have some of his clothes here, all his records and all our possessions we purchased while I was there for our home. I dont want to believe it was fraud and I dont want to believe he just stopped loving me...I am just so confused and so upset..I cant eat or sleep....All i do is cry. Can anyone tell me if there is more to do or any advice on how to handle this better?

This is a very difficult situation and no matter what anyone says they cannot truly understand unless they have gone through this themselves. Right now all you need to do is to ensure that the visa gets cancelled and that he isnt able to enter the US. I know that you are hurt right now but this is a blessing in disguise. Imagine if he had come over here and you had gotten pregnant and then he left. I know its hard to believe it right now but better now than later. If you ever want to talk just send me a PM anytime. You are in my prayers and thoughts!!

Middle East and North AfricaEgypt crush Algeria 4-0

Egypt won the match cause we deserve to win .we are the best .all the world knows how Algeria won that Match in Sudan .If we will play again against Algeria million times we will win that's for sure .

Algeria even did not deserve to go that far in African cup of Nations :

First round :-

Algeria VS Malawi ......... Algeria LOST 0/3

Algeria VS Mali ..............Algeria won 1/0

Algeria VS Angola............Draw 0/0

So Algeria went to the second round cause they just have 1 Goal LOOOOOOOL which mean Algeria went to the second round by LUCK !!!

Let's see Egypt in the first round :-

Egypt VS Nigeria......................Egypt WON 3/1

Egypt VS Mozambique...............Egypt WON 2/0

Egypt VS Benin.........................Egypt WON 2/0

Egypt beat Nigeria '' They going to world cup '' Egypt beat Cameroon '' they are going to world cup '' Egypt beat Algeria '' they are going to world Cup '' Egypt VS Ghana in the final tomorrow '' they are going to world cup '' and Insha'Allah we are going to beat them .

Egypt won all of it matches and we beat all the teams even the teams which will go to world Cup .

So don't tell me that Algeria deserve to go to world cup .Egypt deserve to go to world cup .

Even in the African cup of Nations Algeria went to the second round by LUCK '' just one Goal LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL''

Just want to add som  ething to you Egypt won the African Cup of Nations 6 times .
Algeria won that cup just one time LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Egypt is the champion 2006 and 2008 and if we will win this cup insha'Allah tomorrow we will be the champion 2010 which mean we will be the champions 3 times in a row .it will be the first time in the History any team won the cup 3 times in a row .

Middle East and North AfricaOk I read to much here!!!OK

I don’t think it would but according to Nancy - only positive vibes on VJ.

Nothing wrong with the vibes but why cherry coat obvious red flags. Yes this women is happy and loves her hubby but the CO doesn’t care about that.

If what I wrote is going to affect Nancy’s day (which I doubt it would I’m sure she has other things to worry about) then that’s a whole ‘nother story.

What you said definitely did not affect my day whatsoever, but I am sure it affected that person's day. I also dont see anything wrong with only positive vibes.........is that such an awful thing? I understand that some advice is not always going to be positive, but we are all adults here and are old enough to make our own decisions. If people want to get married or engaged quickly or slowly that is their own prerogative and they should not be bashed for it.

On another note, Kim I think your interview will go wonderfully and I cant for you to post visa approved in a few days.
NancylovesAhmadFemaleEgypt2010-02-04 19:10:00
Middle East and North AfricaOk I read to much here!!!OK

I wish I could offer the recipe for calm but I am going through the exact same thing. I am beside myself trying to figure out what to do here. We have a real marriage based on a long-developed relationship, but I fear the embassy will not see it that way. We can't help the fact that we met online and we can't change the fact that we got married on my first visit. Nor would I change it...I LOVE how our relationship has progressed and I LOVE being married to my husband. I just am so afraid of a denial and another unknown amount of time away from my husband. It's been 6 months since I've seen him and I can barely take it. I cry often and miss him terribly. I constantly have to talk myself out of just quitting my job and hopping on a plane...telling myself that we will have a better life here and just to calm down and work through it, but I absolutely fear the interview. We're missing being together for our first year of marriage and it hurts and I cannot even fathom how it would feel to get a denial. I don't know what to do or think either and we have months to go. I am right there with the OP and would love some advice and a bright side to this, if it's out there.

Vanessa do not worry yourself with other peoples comments. If you are happy and love your husband that is all that matters. I am here if you ever need to talk. And last I checked VJ was supposed to be a place to get positive and helpful advice about the immigration journey. I truly with you the best!!!

Middle East and North AfricaOk I read to much here!!!OK

Wowzers! Getting married on the first trip and only spending 2 weeks with him.  No way in hell I could do that. What’s the rush?! If he really loves you he’s gonna wait for you he’s not going anywhere. If I were single and had met a guy online here in the states there is no f**ckin way I would marry him on our first meeting – I don’t know of many people that would do that (as a matter of fact I can’t think of any). I took several trips we wanted to make sure we were both doing the right thing – not just marry because we loved each other and because the hospitality was fantastic. There is a lot more than vacationing and getting to know someone in person in 2 weeks. Wanted my parents to meet him unfortunately they didn’t make it but my brother did make a quick 6 day trip. He wanted to meet this great guy I was crazy about, he wanted to meet his family, where he came from, the culture and wanted to see for himself the situation in Palestine. Yes, I understand that these are different circumstances when someone lives overseas but we tried to take all the steps we could as if he was already here prior to marriage.

H*ll what do I know. Maybe I’m wrong here and it’s normal to get married the first 2 weeks of meeting each other.

I didnt see anyone mention this in their posts. Who is this in reference to?

You can apply to get a tax identification number which is form W-7 if im not mistaken and that will be the number you input for his social. I am also in the process of filing my taxes and will be going next week to get a tax id number for my husband so that we can also file married filing jointly.

Hopefully there is someone else in this forum that can give us more information on the process. I just know the tax id info from another forum that I read it on. So glad you started this topic.

Middle East and North AfricaA few cultural questions

I would just like to remind everyone that sometimes something meant humorously isn't always seen that way. Gentle teasing and good natured fun is fine but try to make it clear that it is such so it doesn't get seen as mockery. If it was meant as mockery, then please don't go there again. :) Thanks!

I completely agree.  It is very obvious that there are some people that enjoy being sarcastic more than they like to be helpful.

Tamara it seems like you guys are doing all of great things to get him prepared for the move here. My husband will be flying in tomorrow and as much as we have discussed everything I still know there will be culture shock and that it will only get better with time.
NancylovesAhmadFemaleEgypt2010-02-10 21:08:00
Middle East and North AfricaA few cultural questions

I don't know if this has been said before, but one of the first things we had to take care of once my husband was here was figuring out a way to rig up a "butt sprayer" in the bathroom. Most of the toilets in MENA have built-in bidets, which ours don't have here, and it quickly becomes a hassle to try to use a bottle of water or a watering can. We ended up buying a product that's actually intended for cloth diaperers, to spray waste off of diapers. It's this one: http://www.amazon.co...r/dp/B000ZKHVMU , it was really easy to install. There are lots of other ones on the market if you look for something like"handheld bidet" or something along those lines. Anyway, just a heads-up in case it's not something you'd thought of. :)

Thanks for sharing this Amy. That the one thing that my husband has already said he will have a hard time adjusting to.......the lack of the "booty cleaner".......lol. I actually would like to have one installed as well because after I go to Egypt for awhile and come back here I realize how much more hygenic it is than just toilet paper and water and so much less hassle.
