K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa: Can I file it by my self or is agent/laywer highly recommended?
Oh yes! good.gif
You can TOTALLY do it yourself!!!
If you have a pretty straight forward case, by all means, save yourself the money!

If you have some hard obstacles like a serious criminal past, a previous overstay, etc etc. I would suggest getting a good immigration lawyer.

Before we found VJ, Nick and I had contacted a lawyer who wanted to charge us $1800 bucks! Seeing all the amazing information on this site in the Guides and all the amazing people on the message boards, we knew we could do it.

Best of luck on your journey!!!

Once we get the NOA2 how long until we are finally together here in the U.S.?

Check out the K1 Flowchart
It gives you info on each step of the journey.

Once the NOA2, the case is forwarded to National Visa Center and then on to the U.S. Embassy in the beneficiaries country. Getting an interview can take many months depending on the Embassy. CLICK HERE to look up your fiance's embassy to get some information about it.

Best of luck to you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiance Visa or Spouse Visa - Which is quicker?
Hey Paul!
Welcome to VJ!
Congrats to you and your fiance smile.gif

So what you want to do is check out the Guides here at VJ, look on the left and choose either the K1, K3 or CR-1 options and then you can have a look at the requirements, etc.
Then there are also our VJ Timelines that will help give you a rough estimate on what to expect time wise.

The K1 is slightly faster than the K3 or CR-1 but not by much at all. The whole process takes anywhere from 6 to 10 months processing time, so a move in early 2008 (which isn't far off) is quite unlikely.

I'd do some research, read it all over, take a break, come back and read it all again. It's a lot of information to absorb but once you do, it's pretty simple.

Best of luck to you!!! smile.gif

??

You have sufficient evidence to prove both that you have met and you maintain an ongoing relationship. Just make sure to keep the originals of all documents for your visa interview and to make one or two copies of the entire packet you send them for reference.

Good luck!

Yes! Copies...very important! Do not attach originals, keep them and just send them copies.

I just put all my boarding passes on one page neatly and photocopied them. I have 2 pages because I have 5 boarding passes.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPaying for your Visa application fees

Good job smile.gif
That's good info.
The only thing that would discourage people from using a money order is not being able to get the tracking number that you get with using a personal check.

When the check is cashed, it is scanned and you can ask your bank for a copy of it right away (some even show an electronic scan online) then from the back of the scan you can get your case number which you use at USCIS.com once you have made an account. That way you can track your case.

With a money order you have to wait until you receive a hard copy of your NOA1.

Best of luck to you Wayne!!

My darling Sasha and I hope to be together by spring 2008. We want to get married soon after her arrival in an attempt to adjust her status sooner than later. We have also decided to celebrate the occasion with a very small, private wedding away from our home in Virginia. Rather than spending loads of money for a large formal wedding that will only satisfy relatives and friends, we've opted to spend very little on the actual wedding and enjoy a nice long romantic honeymoon. If we spend thousands and thousands on a wedding, we will not be able to take a nice honeymoon together. We would like to take off for somewhere tropical, marry there, vacation for a week, then come home. I'm not sure if she will be able to travel to the Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Barbados, or other Carribean Islands. Is it possible?? Or perhaps we will be limited to somewhere within the U.S. We would settle for Florida or Hawaii, but would prefer to go to the Carribean. I'm sure if I researched enough online I would find the answers, but I'm medicated right now for a severe migraine and I'm feeling quite lazy. So, thanks for anyone who can answer this for me definitively.

Also, does it matter if we get married in any place other than our home state? Thanks again...

Hi smile.gif
Welcome to VJ.

The answer is no. Once your fiance enters the U.S. with the one time entry K-1 Visa, you must be married within 90 days.

Once you get married you apply for your AOS and at that same time you apply for advanced parole. Without the advanced parole, she can leave the country but will be denied re-entry and will have to start all over again with a spousal visa.

I would get married in the U.S., you can have a small ceremony, you don't need to spend a lot of money. Apply for her AOS, get her AP (which takes a few months to be issued) then take the honeymoon of your dreams..you could even renew your vows down there if you like.

Best of luck smile.gif

My i-129f got approved smile.gif Nov 29. I am wondering if I have to provide the proof of support at the interview in Peru or when my, soon to be, wife is in the U.S.
Also, can anyone direct me in the questions they may ask my fiancee. I am getting more nervous than she is. I know she should not have a problem. But, I get nervous of anything. Also, how hard is the interview. Is there any trick questions?
Thank you

Hey everyone!

My fiance and I are trying to decide whith route to take. We were set on doing the K-1, however with the AOS taking so long, we are starting to look at the K-3. What does everyone suggest? What are the pros and cons of both? Thanks in advance!

Click here for comparison of the two, as well as info on the CR-1.

We chose the K-1 because we wanted to be together for the first year or so of our married life. It was a personal preference. I don't mind not working for awhile either when I get there wink.gif Kinda looking forward to that.

But besides that, there's no reason to pay them for something you can do yourself. Follow the guides and you'll be fine.

I'm with Mox on this one. I hate that website. The message boards are totally useless, so many rude people on there.
You can totally do it yourself, read the information provided, ask as many questions as need be, take your time and you can do it together with your fiance. Save yourself the money!!!

Hi! Just wondering my fiance is from the UK and I am from the US. Just wondering when you need the foreign applicants birth certificate? I know it doesn't say that you need it in the first packact, but I thought I read that you COULD put it in if you want. Just wondering if we need it towards the end, just at the interview or what??
Thanks for any help?!

Hi smile.gif
Although it doesn't ask for it in the initial package, many include it anyway. There have been some instances on here where people have received an RFE (Request Further Evidence) because the beneficiaries birth certificate was NOT included. Stupid I know, but hey, they can do what they want.
We put mine in ours.

You will need it for the interview too.

Best of luck to you!

I thought, we can do either send the same time with package I-129F OR submit later at U.S Embassy when we have an interview. Am I right? I read somewhere else on this VJ.

Both Petitioner and foreign fiance(e) are to write a letter of intent for the original I-129F K1 Visa petition. Once the interview comes they are requested to write a new one stating continued intent to marry since the original petition was sent.
