Just wanted to add that there is also the cost of ongoing relationship to factor in! for us that was monthly increased cell phone bills, vonage subscription, shipping of gifts and things back and forth and the probably 12K we spent flying and visiting back and forth over the last year while filing. of course not everyone visits monthly like we did, but if you are really budgeting the cost of the process, I would include travel expenses as well. oh and in London the medical was 200GBP which is about $400.00 dollars, and we have a courier fee at the embassy to get your visa sent to you once it is approved which was about $50.00 on top of the $131.00 visa fee. whatever you do.....over budget!!!!

I agree with this. Looking back on all the travel costs Nick and I have spent to see one another....thousands of dollars.

It's worth every single penny and I'd do it a million times over if I could.

Jerome...I took a moment to think about this after the initial annoyance I felt by your post.
All I can say to you is take some time for you.
I don't know why the first relationship ended and honestly, it's none of my business but I really feel you should take a breather. For yourself, and this new woman. If it does end up moving into a more serious stage, you'll be thankful you took the time.

I don't know why or how you would even be ready for a new relationship at this stage, I would be beyond devastated.
There is no way you can be remotely ready for a new relationship. I would hope that this new woman would have the common sense to know this as well and not jump into anything.

I know people here are judging you, I did at first too. My first reaction was anger but then I realized that I don't know you. None of us know you. Live your life the way you want but mostly, make sure you are happy and treat others as you would be treated. This is a hard journey and not one to be taken lightly.

Best of luck to you.

I've also read of people getting RFE's for not including the beneficiaries birth certificate.
We put mine in our petition just to be safe smile.gif

I would include it too but the reason for the RFE's tend to be related to tracking a woman's name changes, particularly relative to listed children with different surnames, etc. In our case, we included copies of birth certificates for my wife and her daughter, who had different surnames.

Interesting! Thanks for the info! smile.gif

Get past the two month period then call in and have them do a service request for you petition (you will have to back date when your petition was sent for them to do this). It took them 45 days to get back to me on my service request. If its lost you will get a letter detailing how to resubmit, they will ask for proof of your previous submission so include a mail receipt or other such item.

I cannot guarantee your 12/6/07 date will be honored as I have still to get my NOA1 for my second petition.

I'm so sorry that you have gone through this. I know you are hurting, I know this is horrible and I wish you all the happiness in the world.
Not every man is like your ex fiance. Sometimes things in this world don't work out the way we want them too. You will be stronger after this. You will heal and grow and you will have a happy life.
The only reason people are warning against you posting personal information in such a public forum is to protect YOURSELF.
It is not your full birth name you are giving. It's his. If he were to find out, there could be repercussions not in your favor.
Take care hon rose.gif
Take some time for you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPREFERRED ATTORNEY SUGGESTIONS?
Sure, I can recommend someone great....YOU!

You do not need a lawyer.

If you have a straight forward case, open and shut, file yourselves and save yourself thousands of dollars.
I believe that lawyers are just glorified proof readers. You have to gather all the information for them anyway, you are really doing the work yourself at a way higher price.

All my time on VJ I haven't read one positive thing about a lawyer. In fact, I've read dozens of people whose lawyers have messed up drastically by sending their petition to the wrong center, losing information and papers, etc. etc.
Now, if you have a major road block in your case such as an overstay in the States or have a serious criminal background then I would suggest using an immigration lawyer.

Save yourself the money for the petition fee ($455) and the AOS process ($1010)

Read the Guides here at VJ with your Fiance. Take a break, come back and re-read everything again. Stay organized and have fun!!!

Best of luck to you!

Hey Guys -

My fiance and I were wondering when the K-1 Visa actually activates (when does the 90 day clock start running)? Is it when she gets the VISA from the consulate or is it when she enters a POE in the US??

Once you get the visa from the consulate, you have up to 6 months to use it to enter the states.

The 90 days begins once you enter the states through POE.

You fill out your G-325A form with YOUR information, all of it, including the applicant box at the bottom.

He fills his out with his information because it's HIS form, including the same applicant box at the bottom.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiling in the I-129F (Pease Respond)
Your question has got me thinking.
I just sent off my papers to my sweetie for him to send off.

I agree with the one about putting "not in the military" That's exactly what I wrote.
I also agree not to leave anything blank. Answer None or N/A where it doesn't apply to you.

But question number 10 on the I-129F about citizenship for the USC, you answered it by checking "Born in the U.S."
The rest of the question about information about naturalization or citizenship through parents is part of the same question and so, since you already answered the question by putting"X Born in the US", you don't need to put anything in those other areas.

I guess you could put N/A in the part about where it states to write if you are not the person preparing the form.
So leaving it blank would mean, no, there is no one else.

Best of luck smile.gif
