K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat EXACTLY does USCIS check on????
QUOTE (SqdnGuns @ Mar 2 2008, 01:30 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Yes, they do a background check on the petitioner, sometimes that slows up petitions if you have a very common name and there are some criminals with the same name.

Craptacular!!! My last name is Smith sad.gif

QUOTE (Amanda+Stephen @ Mar 1 2008, 08:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I maximized the Skype window and then did a print screen, then scrolled to the next round, did a print screen again - each time after print screen, saving it as a .jpeg file. Then I put them all into Word and printed them out. I know, pain in the you know what, but there didn't seem to be an easy solution!!!

I did the same except I used a program called paint shop pro and I made .gif files from the screenshots...I showed lengths of calls and chats.
I keep doing it every month or so, just to get a sample.
I don't think there is a way to print off the chat logs of free computer to computer calls, just the calls you pay for.
Best of luck! smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresvisa expiration?
QUOTE (pushbrk @ Mar 2 2008, 10:26 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
That is generally correct, but I suggest the OP have the fiance inspect her visa and find the "expiration date". It is by that date, she must enter the USA. I've seen rare instances where the visa was valid less than six months.

I'm presuming your fianceé has the K1 visa? She has up to 90 days in which to enter the US upon receiving the visa and then a further 90 days to get married. Hope this answers your question.

Incorrect.
6 months to enter the U.S. once visa is issued, married within 90 days of entering the U.S.

Have you shown her this website at all?
Direct her this way.
Everything you need is right here.
If you feel like your case is really complicated because of complications like a serious criminal background or an overstay, then sure, go ahead with the lawyer but in my opinion, for a straight forward case you might as well just take your money and throw it away.
You have to get all the paperwork ready for the lawyer, you are doing all the work anyway, he's just a glorified proof reader (if he even does that)

Have her visit us here at VJ, show her the Guides, read everything together. It will be fun!!!

Best of luck to you! smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTouched?
Hi Rich...
This is a FAQ smile.gif
Touched means that when you log onto the USCIS.gov website, there is a "Last Updated" date.
If that date changes, whatever date it's showing that means your petition was touched.
Meaning, someone moved it, looked at it, etc. etc.
Mostly, it means nothing.

There always a chance you could be refused entry. Whether this will occur will depend upon how significant the ties you have in your homeland are at the time you enter. Granted, you have a K-1 in process, but the more personal business you have remaining in your home country that would need your personal attention to wrap up, the better

What do you mean the more personal business in England that would need my personal attention to wrap up? Please expand.

And

Padmini Dasrat-............................Signature of bride affirming name after marriage crying.gif

In that part I suppose to sign PADMINI DASRAT but I sign PADMINI RAMNAUTH instead in the dotted line crying.gif

It doesn't matter that you put your maiden name on your marriage certificate. You are STILL MARRIED.
You can take your husbands name at any time. It's called "Assuming" his name. 98% of married people simply assume their spouse's name instead of legally changing it.
File in your married name, it's OKAY! Relax!!! smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat Made You Choose The K-1 Visa Instead Of the Spouse Visa?
Nick and I decided on the K1 because my divorce papers recently went through and we both wanted to take some more time before we got married. We want to get married late 2008. So we would have had to wait for that and then start a spousal visa. Far too long of a wait.
Also, we want to live together for the first year or so of our married life instead of me waiting in Canada for the spousal visa to be approved.
It was a personal choice and with the time line of the K1 visa, it works out perfectly.

Other than that, we would have gone for the CR-1.

Is there anyway you can have your husband type out how you guys met and mail it to him and you just type in the spot his words?
Or you could just write it as if you were him.

....yeah, thinking about this, i may just let him write how we met n then use some of his words, the way he says it...god it will take forever to get one letter out of him though.... unsure.gif

not even by email or on MSN? It doesn't have to be a letter.
Just have him state how you met and then the first time you met in person. He could also talk briefly about other visits after that.
It doesn't have to be a huge long letter.

Yeah, but now they have the Infopass system in Mexico (Cuidad Juarez) where you get your interview appointment about 4-5 days after your fiance interview. After I find out our appointment date for the I-129f, then I call the number in Mexico and schedule the waiver appointment. If I have good enough hardship letter, he will be approved that day and pick up visa the next day.

That's when your petition could be approved. Then it's forwarded to NVC then to the Embassy where the interview is given.

Would anyone happen to know how long it would take after June to get our interview in Mexico???
We were hoping to go in July, but looks like that is not at all possible???? sad.gif

When should we plan on going for our interview??? He has to have a waiver for illegal presence so I need to gather all my documentation and don't want it to be too outdated.

Thanks!

We filed on December 5th.
I'm hoping to be down there in August.
The process takes anywhere from 6 to 9 months.
Click Here for other time lines of people from VJ whose service center is also Vermont and their fiance from Mexico.
You can get a look at how much time you are looking at.
You'd be very lucky to make it there by July.

You spend as much time "together" as possible. We use skype, email, and the webcam is a lifesaver!!! We plan our wedding even though we have no idea when it will be. When its really rough we cry, scream and curse (well at least i do!) You just have to realize that its not forever and at least we have each other , at least we know we will see each other again. I went through the physical pain last time David left. I went weeks without sleeping, could not eat, felt like I could die. But for me I had to get my a*# in gear as I have a small child. Yet I made it through that and we will see each other Friday for a few weeks or months depending on the POE. Yet we all have to go through this if we want to be together. Just think of it as a test of the strength of yourself and your relationship, you will make it through because the only other choice is to give up and I know for myself I am not giving up the only man that has made me believe in love..
So be strong! think of all the good times you have had and all the many more you will have in your lifetime together!!!!!!! heart.gif

Don't think there's a recipe to make things easier permamently. There are always those days when you feel extremely low. I'm trying to look at it this way. We are over 1 month into the process, so we are 1 month closer to being together. Every day that passes is one day less wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRing and Wedding Date????
Anyone can buy a ring. It doesn't prove that there is a bona fide relationship. It's not mandatory or expected. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

As to your wedding date question, it's tricky!
Most people don't really plan anything huge, they usually want to adjust status ASAP after entering the states so they have something small and intimate (That's what Nick and I are doing)
Some just go to the court house (Sometimes the same day as entry!!)
You could have a date in mind but I wouldn't book anything till you have your interview date.
Even then, you have 6 months to enter the states after getting the visa so you could plan something a little bigger at that point if wanted.

Congrats on receiving your NOA1 and best of luck!! smile.gif
