On your Canadian income tax, there is a spot on the front page that asks when you ceased to be a Cdn resident, and thats all I did. There is a place on the Canadian gov't webpage that you can register and place your new american address. To do that, one requires some information from your past Cdn income tax papers (asks for an $$ amount from a certain line #) Very easy process. http://www.canada.gc.../intro-eng.html Epass is the name

hehe yeah I seem to be the poster child for this form tongue.gif

It's NR-73 and this is what the form says on the front page:
QUOTE
DETERMINATION OF RESIDENCY STATUS (LEAVING CANADA)

NR73 E (07) (Ce formulaire est disponible en français.)
Complete all areas of this form if you plan to leave or have left Canada, either permanently or temporarily. Give all the facts about your residency status
while living inside and outside Canada.
Mail only one completed copy of this form for the tax years in question (an additional form is not necessary for each tax year unless your situation changes,
or directed otherwise) to the International Tax Services Office, 2204 Walkley Road, Ottawa ON K1A 1A8. If you prefer, you can send the form by fax to
(613) 941-2505.
You can find most of our forms and publications, as well as information on taxes, programs and credits, on our Web site at www.cra.gc.ca.

I don't know why I seem to have been the only one required to fill this form out, but I did.
Laura, you may need to inform your province's health system about your intent to leave as well.

Cool...I'll take Kathryn's advice in another post to inform my MP to contact everyone needing to be contacted of my move.
smile.gif Thanks guys.

Wouldn't that just end when I quit my job?

nope... maybe tax credits isn't the right word...

I mean like GST etc... they will continue to send it to you unless you cancel it...

when I filed my taxes I just didn't apply for the GST because I knew I would be moving soon...

Does it matter what kind of folder we get? I seem to recall reading somewhere on VJ that we can only use transparent folders but I'm not sure if that was at Montreal or somewhere else. I want to get an accordian too, I think that's the best for organizing but I usually only see those brown ones at the store.

I've researched this and many people have been fine with non-transparent folders.

They have really updated these folders CBR. When I was younger, I always remembered those huge bulky folders with a handle on the top, almost like a box! Today they are so compact....they have some really cool ones.

I found one I really like, it's see through on the top so you can see all the different sections but the lower half is like a canvas material, I think it should be fine.

If they don't like it, I'll just take everything out of it and hold it all in my hand...man, if they are that ####### I'll laugh my butt off.

What to send to your fiance(e) once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2):
1. A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).
2. Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy.
3. Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).
4. I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is notarized (by a US Notary Public), with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.
5. You will likely need at a minimum (for the above form) two to three of your most recent pay stubs and a signed letter from your employer listing you job title, start date, your salary, and the status (full-time) of your position. Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. You will also probably want to include other evidence such as your banking information and other assets as required by the I-134. Specifically you will need at least 2 of the 4 options mentioned in Section II-Supporting Evidence of the I-134. See this FAQ for more tips and ueful information on the Affidavit of Support Form.
6. A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail.
7. Proof of your ongoing relationship. This needs to be taken to the interview! Include photos, travel documents, emails, etc from between the time you filed and present (NOA1 date-now).

Examples: Copies of phone bills, cell phone bills, emails (you can edit personal info with a marker), letters (edit personal info also), stamps on the letters (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof. Provide a reasonable amount; two to four of each type. Pick a range of dates up to and including the present. You can also include a copy of engagement ring receipt (this is something that is a big optional - do not worry if you do not have a ring yet!)

Hey guys smile.gif
It's been a lazy Saturday. I went to Staples and bought a 13 slot accordion type folder for all my paperwork to take to the interview.

Now, I know that people on here have posted over and over and over again what they are bringing to the interview and I've used the search feature and haven't come up with one...we need a new search engine on this site!!! Anyway... blush.gif
I also thought I book marked a few of the pages but apparently, I did not. sleep.gif

So I'm breaking up the sections of the folder and I want to just type it all out here and see how I've done.

Any input or suggestions on anything I'm missing would be greatly appreciated.

Hope you are all having a great weekend star_smile.gif

1) Birth Certificate (My original, plus a copy of it and a copy of Nick's)

2) My passport, a copy of Nick's and my two passport pictures needed for the interview

3) Files Needed: DS230 part 2, DS156K, Copies of the ones I sent in with package 3, DS230part1 and DS156

4) My original marriage and divorce certificates, plus copies of each

5) Police Certificate plus a copy

6) Medical exam folder

7) Affidavit of Support I-134 (notarized) plus supporting documents, 3 years of Nick's tax returns, Nick's pay stubs from a few months, a letter from his employer and bank statements. I'm going to throw in a few of my pay stubs too.

8) Copies of NOA1 and NOA2 and Appointment letter

9) New letter of intent from both Nick and I

10) Proof of Ongoing Relationship: photos, emails, letters and phone bills

11) Travel Documents since filing original petition: boarding passes, receipts and bank statements from restaurants and stores purchased in Canada and the States

12) Other stuff: Copy of receipt for engagement ring and our wedding bands, any other stuff I want to throw in.

That's it....how does it look?

CanadaSeparation is official..divorce to come..what next?
I don't know you who you are and I don't need to know...I would never judge you.
I wanted to extend my sincere apologies to you. Reading your thread made me cry.
It reminded me of my first marriage, feeling lost and not knowing at all what to do.
Living with a man resistant of getting help, knowing it was all ending...the only thing different is, I was not in a different country, far from friends and family like you are and for that, I'm so sorry.

I'm proud of you for having a job that you love and making friends in a strange place. There is absolutely NOTHING to be ashamed of.

Life isn't always laid out for us, we can't always be right. Things shift and change, sometimes in a way that we can't understand. We get heart broken and confused but with time comes healing and things move forward.

You will stand on your own two feet again. Who cares what the people back home say, it's your life and you have to be happy. You can't live for other people, you have to live for you.

Don't be afraid to seek counseling, counseling is not just for people who did wrong. You are hurt, you need to talk about what hurt you and how you can move forward from this. It may help you heal, it helped me.

When you give and give and give and get nothing back, when you look into the future and can't see him there, when you know that enough is enough and you've tried everything you possibly can to save it with no hope in sight, it's best to pick yourself up, take the pieces with you and live for you...and that is what you are at the beginning of doing, no matter how painful and unsure this road is, you will be okay.

Sending you hugs
~Laura

CanadaActivating a K-1 on a Greyhound?
You need to completely settle down...I worry about the stress you put on yourself.

I agree with Kathryn....give yourself more time.
There are other shuttles like Airbus and different services available that run constantly to the airport. I don't know how long Greyhound will wait either. Maybe you could get off first? Talk to the driver and let them know you are activating the K1 so that way they can process you while other people are being processed? Call Greyhound and see what others have done in this situation.
I really don't understand why your best friend and mom are having a hard time understanding stuff...it's simple, you get in the car, drive you over the border, drop you at the airport and go home. sigh. People suck sometimes.

I hope everything works out for you, I'm sure it will.
