Check out upack.com. . .depending on the size you need it seems to be reasonable AND you don't have to drive it yourself!

Others have used it here. . .I'm just in the reserving stages and it's cheaper for me than a U-haul.

upack was up there in price...over 1500.00 I believe and I don't have that far to go, an 8 hour drive, if that.
Pods was worse...over 2 grand! It was also a stupid option cause I don't have a whole house to move and I don't need a month to pack my stuff.
I also hate the thought of not being with my stuff when it's moved. I bet they riffle all through people's stuff.

The most expensive obviously was the private moving companies. I got quotes for 3 grand and upwards.

We are moving from Boulder to San Diego in August, and for the first time, all our stuff won't fit in a borrowed pickup! The least expensive option I have found is renting a 10' cube van from U-Haul and towing my little car. Cheaper than driving the car AND a van. None of the other companies I have found will allow you to tow a car with a 10' cube van. I think with gas and everything we are still looking around $800-$1000 though. Anyone seen anything less 'spensive???

I sure haven't and I've done a lot of research.

Uhaul seems to be the cheapest option going.

I recently had my medical done for K3 visa and have an upcoming interview at the Montreal consulate.

I wanted to know if the medical results are discussed in front of spouse if he/she is present during the interview, especially any questions regarding my previous medical history which i think is very private and personal matter. It would be quite embarrasing if I was asked some questions about this past issue in front of my spouse.

If anyone can provide any feedback, it would be appreciated.

This I don't know.
I'm sure someone can answer your question for you!!!

Your husband loves you! I'm sure he'll be supportive of your past.

I made photocopies of mine before I sent them in. I brought the photocopies with me to the interview. I don't even know if they asked for them, but I had them. My D156K which was filled in by hand. I remember one of them had to be signed at the consulate. Sorry, can't remember which. If I had to guess I would say it was the D156K.

It was such a flurry when I was handing over documents ... it was a good thing I was organized ... but it also means I can't remember exactly what happened with each document. I even handed over my appointment letter and my copy of it, so I don't have it to refer to to help answer your question.

My motto ... if in doubt, bring it!

Oh good!! I did it right then...electronic DS156....hand filled in DS156K..

I never got my package 4 sad.gif

Do I have to electronically fill out the DS156k?? They sent me a paper one in package 3 and I just filled it out by hand, neatly.

CanadaCongratulations Toastburglar - visa approved on Friday!
QUOTE (Toastburglar @ Jun 17 2008, 09:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hey all!
I've been avoiding posting my review because I really don't know what to say. I took the train to Montreal, and was pretty sick by the time I got there (because that always happens when I don't sleep). The train was delayed 7 hours, so I walked right to the hotel (La Tour Centre Ville) and went to sleep when I got to Montreal. I was 3rd in line at the consulate the next morning (I got there a little after 7, I think). I was behind Joni and her husband and Melissa, who are both on VJ somewhere too. They let us in, we went through security, I was letter C. I got called to the window, I gave my medical envelope, the xpresspost envelope, my adoption papers and my passport to a cranky lady.
In my file she had there were passport pictures of me in a little stapled plastic bag, I guess NVC must have put them in there that way. She acted annoyed at the staples and handed the bag to me, made me take out the staples and put them in a little ziplock bag. I was really confused because I had brought passport pictures with me, so I asked if she wanted them too, but she gave me an exasperated look and said "just give me the bag!" So I slid the pictures back in the ziplock bag. It was really weird, I never used the passport pictures I brought with me.
Anyways, I sat in the waiting room for a long time with the others, I probably talked waaaay too much out of nerves. I finally got fingerprinted and then waited again for about an hour. I got called into the interview room, the guy was really nice. We joked around about how I was left handed so I wouldn't be able to go to the US because they already had too many left-handed people, and I should learn how to pitch if I wanted to get in. He actually asked me quite a few questions about PEI, then about my husband's work. It was pretty conversational.
The only surprise was that he said I should have gotten a police certificate done under my married name. I explained that I have never used my husband's last name for anything, but he didn't seem to care. He said he would let it pass as long as I swore to him that I had never been arrested. It was really weird.
But anyways, he approved me.
I went back to the hotel and checked out, and walked to the train station and waited for my train back home.
I am still sick with some kind of lung infection thing.
The end smile.gif
Oh, and I got my visa in the mail yesterday. Interview Friday, visa on Monday. . . how's that for service?

smile.gif glad it went smooth.
Feel better soon!!!

QUOTE (ndave @ Jun 9 2008, 10:28 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Bad news from DoS - Montreal never got the packet! I absolutely can't believe we have been waiting all this time only to find out they don't have it for whatever reason. Additionally, I was reminded that the 4 months runs out at the end of this month and so we have to get a new packet and refile before then or else (according to the nice lady at DoS). She did NOT mention anything about an extension, by the way so I'm not sure what will happen now if for some reason we can't refile within the next 2 weeks. I emailed the folks at the embassy (they don't take phone calls) and now I guess we just wait and see what happens.
This is truly depressing.

Wow, how did you mail back package 3? Did you get delivery confirmation and just send it regular mail?
I took the chance and sent mine regular mail cause I'm so tired of forking out more money.

I sent mine on April first but they didn't "enter" it into their system until April 14th.

It should be in the system by now....
Hmm....I'm so sorry!

CanadaInterview Wait Times in Montreal?
Hi Dave smile.gif
It varies.
A wonderful member of ours has created a spreadsheet of all the people who have gotten an interview and who are still currently waiting

I know in our case, we got our NOA2 on March 3rd. On May 14th I found out about my June 20th interview by calling DoS.

My case wasn't received at Montreal until April 14th (I sent it off on April 1st) so they are booking about 2 months in advance (or so it seems)
You should have yours pretty soon I'd imagine.

Best of luck! star_smile.gif

That's the boat I'm in Laura. I last saw him on March 4th and I'll pick him up in Vancouver on July 16th. That's 4 1/2 months? That is the longest apart. We've managed to see each other every 3-4 months the last 2 and a half years. We've been, I think, extremely blessed because we've had schedules that allow long vacations (I teach and he works for a university while getting his MS) and we've had lots of savings (now seriously depleted) and airline miles.

The time apart was tough. There were a few times that I honestly didn't know how we were going to make it. But the realization has been slowly sinking in that THIS IS IT. No more goodbyes after this.

I had a bridal shower today and my feeling was "wait....this is really happening!"

Best of luck at your interview, Laura. And to everyone else still waiting....big hugs and blessings.

You need to re-schedule if the letter doesn't come in time". Deb is going and hoping to get in so we'll see what happens.
Again the folks here have been life-savers and a true help while we've been floundering around. I've gotten more information here than from my attorney.
Hopefully we will all laugh about this soon but right now I'm. I apologize if I offended anyone by omission (or co-mission).

I know that I took no real umbrage from your post, I was just teasing and I'm sure it is the case for Laura and everyone else too. good.gif We Canadians have a great sense of humour, who else would choose to live in the land of permafrost. laughing.gif The day I took my parents to Montreal there were two or three people there without the letter and the security checked the list and let them in. Attorneys frequently get short shrift from the USCIS and DoS, not really sure why that is. Attorneys do zealously guard their own financial interests rather than their clients despite the rules of the American Bar Association. I guess if the client knows how easy most immigration matters are, the attorney will lose business. crying.gif VJ is a fantastic resource, no doubt about it. good.gif

So far our multiple emails have gone unanswered so all we have is the verbal confirmation from DoS. The folks at DoS, by the way, have been pleasant but firm in saying that they can't do anything.
The Embassy was closed today for the holiday so we couldn't even try to call - that's on the list for tomorrow.
I'm not sure what will happen if she shows up with just the Package 3 cover letter but that might be all we have so we might find out.
Say a prayer for us and maybe the letter will come this week yet.

Lache pas la patate! good.gif There's still time for your letter and you have at least some documentation. Montreal always answered the e-mails I sent to them in 48 hours or less, so let's go over the e-mail just to make sure the format of your e-mail is correct. I'm sure it is, but to recap (for IR5s but it is probably the same for everyone) e-mail address is Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov, subject is case number (i.e. MTL200XXXXXXX). The top two lines of your e-mail (I bolded mine) should be the name of the beneficiary and the date of birth and the next two lines should be name of the petitioner and the petitioner's date of birth. For example here the format I used,

Joseph Aloysius Blow (beneficiary)
April 1, 1980

Mary Innocent (petitioner)
December 25, 1981

The Department of State has said that our appointment is July 3 and that the letter was mailed on June 13. Keep emailing Montreal.
I just had my interview on Friday and I never got my appointment letter.

I took my package 3 cover letter and an email that I got from Montreal stating when my interview date was and that when I arrive in Montreal, if I still didn't have my appointment letter that the Guards would call up to the day of my interview (they never did, just took the email)

Make sure when you email Montreal you put your case number in the subject and also in the body of the letter.
