I punched all of the papers at the top with an ACCO hole puncher (my dad had one, I didn't go out and buy one) and then separated all the secionts with paper clips in the order that the list on my cover letter stated.

CanadaDS-230 part II at Vancouver consulate
QUOTE (SonoranSongbird @ Jun 11 2008, 11:57 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Obviously we are holding onto it. We assume they wouldn't just forget. Will we need this when crossing the border for the move? Or adjusting status? Or do they just not use those last two pages at Vancouver? To some extent, this is out of curiosity---we will hold onto the document---but if we have to hand it over to CBP when he moves down, we will pack it someplace accessible.

Oh, yes, and we got the visa. I will post a review sometime soon.

CONGRATS!!!!!!! biggrin.gif
That's awesome news!!!

I held onto mine too, I'm taking it to the interview (which I know I don't need but whatever)

Make sure you hold onto that NOA2, it's probably one of the most important documents through all of this, other than the actual K1 visa!!!
You'll need to it adjust status for your green card.

Glad everything turned out well!!!!

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. Mail sucks sad.gif

They will ask for it at the interview....worst case scenario, if you don't get it in time for the interview, you will get an approval pending that document. You'll simply mail in the document when you have it and your visa will be approved and mailed to you.

Nothing is impossible.

Best of luck hon!

I actually feel pretty at peace with things now that it's been delivered. I actually LOVE my job here and don't intend to quit until a few months after i actualy get my visa, so I'm not in any rush or anything actually.

I feel myself getting excited after each NOA and then i'll simmer down.

I've been reading the boards and posting here and there since December, so I've braced myself. Now it's real though and it feels great!

I'm so glad you feel this way!!
It's been a long wait for you to even start and now you have and I couldn't be happier for you guys!!!

I'm the same way. I love my job here, I'm not really in a super rush either and I like it that way. When you work yourself up and get all anxious, it's toxic for your own sanity.

So now that I have my interview date (Yeah!) I need to look into booking a hotel in Montreal. If anyone can let me know what hotels are good and which are not, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Do you have any air miles to use up?
If you do, the Best Western Europa Downtown is very close to the embassy (1240 Drummond St. Montreal, QC H3G 1V7)

My mom and I are staying there for free cause I used up all of mine doing so...way to get rid of them!! smile.gif

Other people have stayed at Tour Centre Ville - Across the street from Consulate and the Holiday Inn.

Downtown Montreal can get very pricey. smile.gif

Well...
Nick and I decided against a house for the time being and have reluctantly but still excitedly rented an apartment.

Nick had already mailed me all of the paperwork (I-134) etc. before we were approved for the apartment and it has his old address on it. The apartment is ours now and Nick is moving in next week but I wanted to know when I should let the government know?

Should I let them know when I go for my interview on the 20th?

It's not a HUGE deal cause his old address is his parents house so we will have access to the mail but I'd still like it to be current.

What do you guys think? smile.gif

CanadaFingerprints
You guys are doing the right thing
Your fiance has a criminal record so he must go to the RCMP and do the fingerprinting route.
If no criminal record, then he could have gone to the local police station and just gotten a Canada wide police search.

That is not the case here and you are doing this the correct way.

I'm sorry it's taking so long.

Worse comes to worse, you go to the interview without the documentation and they simply wait for him to send it to them and then they issue the visa. Approval pending upon documentation.

I wish you much luck!!!

I can't even look at the rates to drive from my area to NJ at all...it shows the drop off locations in NJ but it won't allow me to select them.
So stupid!!!

That's b/c they don't allow one-way from Canada to the US. You have to pick a location in the US to make it work. I agree, it sucks and they should spell it out a bit more clearly.

Oh, I see!!!

Yeah so like 250 bucks to go from Niagara Falls, NY to New Jersey....
I just really don't want to chance them making me activate my K1, plus all the gas and pollution of driving...picking it up, coming all the way back home (2 hours) driving all the way back down....not worth it to me at all.

I did a similar thing when I moved to Toronto 4 years ago. We did a one way Budget truck, drove it from NYC to Toronto, unpacked, then the next day returned it to Niagara. It will DEFINITELY save you money, but it will also definitely cost you a lot more time. At least it did with us. But it depends on which is more important to you; spending time or money. Now that you've brought this up I kind of wish I had done this the other way around. We are getting a Uhaul on Saturday; the cost of the truck without gas is $725. I just looked up Budget from Niagara and it's only $268!

Also Uhaul is just a horrible company. They called us today to tell us the closest truck they can give us is 30km away. We don't have a car. Scott was like "what are we supposed to do?" to the guy on the phone, and now, miraculously, they are going to deliver it to us. But I am still tempted to switch over to Budget and deal with more hassle... I dunno.

Anyhoo, sorry, I digress. I have also read other threads about people crossing the border and not activating your visa and my guess is that you would be just fine. I would just specify to the border agent that you do not want to activate your visa at this time.

Bus from Montreal to Vermont : 20$ (about 2 hours)
Gas to come back with truck from Vermont to Montreal : 30$ max.
I would save about 500$....(1300$ if renting in Canada vs. 800$ if renting in the US)

As far as the k1 visa goes I had the interview 2 days ago so I should receive it in a few days hopefully.

Are you factoring the cost of gas needed for the truck?? They get crappy gas mileage. And is the extra mileage going from Vermont to Montreal and back factored into the price?

I think honestly it would be a waste of time and energy, not to mention the fact of not activating the K1..what if they make you?
I think with the cost of gas for the truck and the fact that they may make you activate the K1, I wouldn't do it.

Yep, Upack was a bit more expensive than Uhaul. Plus, we'd STILL have to drive my car from CO to CA, so we would not avoid the driving anyways...And I am the same as you Laura - we don't really have a huge amount of stuff.
Ugh. I actually still also have to move my own stuff down from Canada as well. So it's going to be TWO horrid U-Haul trips. Oh well! We have a rule that we have to eat breakfast at IHOP every morning on non-pleasure related road trips, which definitely helps.

Check out upack.com. . .depending on the size you need it seems to be reasonable AND you don't have to drive it yourself!

Others have used it here. . .I'm just in the reserving stages and it's cheaper for me than a U-haul.

upack was up there in price...over 1500.00 I believe and I don't have that far to go, an 8 hour drive, if that.
Pods was worse...over 2 grand! It was also a stupid option cause I don't have a whole house to move and I don't need a month to pack my stuff.
I also hate the thought of not being with my stuff when it's moved. I bet they riffle all through people's stuff.

The most expensive obviously was the private moving companies. I got quotes for 3 grand and upwards.
