CanadaSo many questions, so many confusing websites!
I would definitely go with the CR-1. It's just a better visa compared to the k3.

Check out the Guides and read the CR-1 Guides. It tells you step by step what to do.

You may also want to check out the link beside BEGIN HERE. It gives you a comparison of the different types of visas. You can talk it over with your fiance and make the right choice for you both.

Best of luck and welcome to VJ! smile.gif

CanadaCan my love stay with me...?
You posted the other topic on May 30th and in the Philippines regional forum, that's probably why you didn't get any answers! laughing.gif

This is an extremely frequently asked question.

The answer is yes, your fiance may visit you while the visa process is going on. He must show strong ties to Canada though, showing that he will be returning there after the visit.

He will need things like, A letter from his employer stating how long he's on vacation and when he will be back to work, bank statements, visa statements, mortgage or rent agreements, etc. etc.
When he goes across the border he should be perfectly honest.

I stated I was visiting my fiance, they asked a few questions about when we were getting married, how far along in the K1 process we were, etc. etc. and I never had to show one bit of evidence I brought. It's best to have it with him though, cause if they ask and he doesn't have it, well, you can figure it out.

Best of luck to you! smile.gif

CanadaWhat do I need for interview?
It says on the embassy page:
"You will need to take a 314mm x 394mm Xpresspost, pre-paid, signature required envelope with you to the interview. Address it to yourself."

I have been looking online for this size and have still to find anything about it..lol
I'll just go to the post office and tell the lady what I need smile.gif

I have not tried it Marilyn but people have said it's pretty darn close..it won an award in some challenge in Toronto last year or something.

This one lady I found on a forum said this:

"I tried the posted swiss chalet recipe and didn't like it so my mission was to perfect it and I think I did.
3 cups good chicken stock (Campbell's)
1/4 cup tomato juice
1/8 cup Worcestershire
1 tsp paprika
1.5 tsp thyme
1.5 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
1 tsp parsley
1 tsp sugar
4 drops Tabasco
simmer for 5 - 10 minutes
add 1/2 tsp lemon juice
mix 1 tsp of cornstarch with a little water ,add the thicken
1 bay leaf

tell me if you like it"

So...I guess all we can do is try it out and see how it is...

CanadaSudden swiss chalet craving!
Nick *adores* Swiss Chalet.
It's tradition to get it at the airport before he leaves from his visits.
It's one thing I'm really going to miss too!!!

I found online a recipe for the sauce...maybe roast a nice chicken and make some sauce? smile.gif Enjoy!!!

3 C. water
1/4 C. tomato juice
1 chicken bouillon cube
1 1/2 t. paprika
1 t. sugar, granulated
3/4 t. salt
1/4 t. basil, dried
1/4 t. parsley
1/4 t. poultry seasoning
1/4 t. thyme
1/4 t. ginger, ground
1/4 t. dry mustard
1/4 t. onion powder
1 bay leaf
3/4 t. Worcestershire sauce
6 drops Tabasco sauce
2 t. lemon juice
1 T. cornstarch
1 T. water
1 T. vegetable oil

Anne's note: Swiss Chalet is a chain of Canadian chicken restaurants. This sauce is brushed on the chicken before cooking and served at the table in small containers to dip the chicken pieces in.

Pour cups of water and tomato juice into 1 1/2 qt saucepan. Add bouillon cube, paprika, sugar, salt, basil, parsley, poultry seasoning, thyme, ginger, mustard, onion powder, bay leaf, Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco. Stir well or whisk to mix. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes. Remove bay leaf. Stir in lemon juice.

Mix cornstarch and 1 Tbsp water to smooth paste. Add to mixture and cook, stirring constantly, about 2 minutes until sauce thickens. Whisk in oil.

Makes about 3 cups

Oh!
I didn't think that's what Warlord meant.
What I meant was, in my opinion, I would skip the spousal visa and go for the fiance as it's a shorter waiting time.

CanadaGetting married to us citizen. i am in canada
I agree with Warlord.

The spousal visa's take quite a bit longer than the K1's do.
I would simply apply for a K1 visa, and then get married in the U.S. once you have visa in hand. You have 6 months to enter the country once you have the K1 visa in your passport and you must be married in the U.S. within 90 days once you arrive.

Click on the Guides and start at the part where it says "BEGIN HERE" in red letters. That shows a comparison of the different visas.

If you do decide to go for a spousal (K3, CR/1, etc.) you may enter the U.S. to visit as long as you show proof that you will be returning back to Canada. Letter from your employer stating you are coming back to work, bank statements, visa statements, mortgage or rent agreements, etc. etc.
As Canadians we do not require a visitors visa to enter the U.S. so that's not a problem, you just have to show strong ties showing you will be returning.

Read over the guides with your fiance and discuss what will be the best course of action for you both.

Nick and I went with the K1 simply because we did not want to be living in different countries while married. We want our first year of married life to be together, not apart waiting for it to begin.

Best of luck to you both!!! smile.gif

If I don't get it tomorrow, I'm going to call DoS again.

Has anyone ever heard of someone not getting their appointment letter?

My interview is in 17 days. They mailed it out on the 14th of May...seriously, it shouldn't take THIS long to mail something from Montreal to Brantford.
I was thinking that if worse comes to worse I have the package 3 cover letter and an email from Montreal stating that my interview is June 20th.

Just wondering if anyone has heard of someone not getting an appointment letter. Hopefully DoS can do something for me when I call.
I'm worried.

No padding, it's the cardboard one, like one you would see Fedex or Purolator use.

Yes, I gave those dimensions to my Husband for the P.O. and of course when he got there - no such thing. Can't remember which one he did buy. It's probably the large size measuring 30.5cm x 39.4cm (National).

Our Montreal embassy page here on VJ says the envelope you must bring to the interview is 314mm x 394mm big...no one sells envelopes in mm...they sell them in cm so I'm going to change the page once I find out cause that's just stupid.

ALSO! It says "prepaid".... pre-paid for how much? We don't know what the weight is going to be inside the package.

For those of you who have had your interview...how big was the envelope in cm's and how much in postage did you buy???

Chris and I were going to get married this summer - he wanted the big wedding. We finally decided on a couple weeks notice last year that we'd just get away and do it. Since we were already going to Vegas for his birthday - we decided to get married instead. Since he figured his fam would be butt hurt if we didn't invite them - we invited our immediate relatives. Surprisingly they all came - so instead of 2 of us there were 15 or so.

We got married just outside of Vegas at a place called the Valley of Fire. It was beautiful and slightly different from the off the strip Chapel wedding - which is what I wanted. My personal choice would have been at the Chapel of Love.

http://www.vegaswedd...alleyoffire.htm

I'd do it all over again - but still wish it has just been Chris and I.

Thanks hon smile.gif

Hello my lovely friends star_smile.gif

So Nick and I have been discussing over the past little while ways to get married.
As some of you know, this is my second and most of me (I'd say 90%) wants our ceremony to be just Nick and I alone in some romantic location verses having my parents and brother drive down for a wedding and then dinner afterwards.

Nick could go either way. He hasn't really expressed a stronger preference for either side of the coin: alone or with our immediate families.

Talking tonight we have decided that we want to get married just the two of us and then plan a sort of party or reception if you will with my parents, brother and his parents and siblings in the near future.

Does anyone have any unique, romantic, cool ideas of how and where Nick and I should get married with just the two of us?

We will be in New Jersey but are willing to travel (not super far though) to a location to tie the knot.

We are both thinking romantic and intimate with a little bit of spark.

Thanks guys smile.gif You always come up with great ideas!!!
