Just go to your local police station and ask for a name check and specify that it needs to be Canada wide.

You should get it in a few business days. They only charged me $25.00 for mine.

Best of luck!

CanadaWell...
Here's here and we had a great day. The uhaul was packed by 1pm, we relaxed in the afternoon wink.gif and then had a nice dinner with my family and then some friends drop by.

Gonna go upstairs in a bit and make some food for the ride home tomorrow. We leave at 6am.

Love you all!! Talk soon star_smile.gif

Thanks for all the support. I'm here in Oakville waiting patiently at my brothers place. Nick's very very delayed flight just took off and he should be landing around 12:20am in Toronto.

He's coming...finally.

Thanks for the support all.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((Laura)))))))))))))))))))))))))),

If it helps any, I remember going to pick Joe up at Detroit and hearing the same news - that by the time his plane was scheduled to land it still hadn't left Atlanta! His flight was 3 hours late but he made it. Weather patterns cool off in the evening so I'll keep my fingers crossed that whatever is affecting Ohio calms down and he can leave any time now.

Ok - just took a look - the weather pattern causing the delay is in Ontario but it looks like it should be over soon and there isn't anything serious coming in afterwards so it should be just a short delay. Here is a link for you: http://thunderstorm....m/explorer.html

You should get the news soon that he is on his way. What airport is he flying out of and what one is he landing in?

Thank you Kathryn...I am sitting here in tears...I'm so so upset.
I pray you are right.

I'm sure your AA flight will be fine..it appears Nick and I are cursed when it comes to them.
They are so unreliable...I will never ever fly them again.

Because American Airlines sucks. We have never had a smooth flight with them...EVER.
Something has always gone wrong, been delayed or cancelled, lose luggaged, etc. It's just they are the cheapest and this is probably why.

They say weather, the plane is coming from Ohio and it's raining or something there and hasn't left, I don't know...

I'm completely and utterly heartbroken. sad.gif

Thank you for your prayers.

Now to see you made it home (which funny enough I grew up in Bergen County NJ and love it there) makes me feel as if it is all really going to end some day soon for us as well. Hopefully, we will be driving to NJ after our Aug 22 interview. My parents still live there and they are taking care of our dog. Glad you got home safely and without a border incident! Enjoy NJ!

Aww hon, that's very sweet.

The process isn't that complicated when you think about it, especially with the help of VJ...man, where would we be without VJ.

I like it here too. Nick asked me yesterday if I wanted to drive when we went out for the afternoon....I told him no, I'm not ready. I'm pretty intimidated by the traffic here. I'm a new driver as it is so I was just getting use to driving at home....
Hopefully soon I'll bite the bullet and get in and drive.

Welcome to VJ! smile.gif
We decided because I only worked part time, didn't have my own car and lived with my parents. Nick wouldn't have been able to work for a considerable amount of time if he came to Canada (we could have lived apart during the process but who wants that?!?!) So..we looked at our options and realized it would be best if I moved here. We have many friends here, he has a great job and it just seemed like the logical thing to do.

I miss Canada every second....I'm trying not to think about it, I'm honestly just waiting for it to hit me that I won't be seeing my beautiful country for awhile. sad.gif

The whole thing took 8 hours? It took me 8 hours just to get to the border. From there it was Bellingham WA to Houston TX driving by myself. 2.5 days worth of driving.

Now that you're in the US, take a moment to really soak everything in. All the waiting for NOA2's and filling out never ending paperwork. It's all put on hold for now....At least for a little while.

From the sounds of things your summer should be spectacular. Enjoy every minute of it.

CanadaWe made it home!!
Well hello dear friends luv.gif

Nick and I made it safe and sound to Bergen County!!!

We left later than we wanted to yesterday morning (7a.m. instead of 6) and said "so long" to my parents (crying and watching them standing in their driveway waving) as we drove away in the uhaul.

We made it to the Lewiston Bridge at around 9. We didn't even intend on going to the POE but we just followed the GPS...we meant to go the Peace Bridge but whatever laughing.gif

It was VERY busy...duh, it was Saturday. Even the officer said "So, why did you guys decide to do this on a Saturday?!?!" Beats the heck out of me...I never even thought of how busy it would be, but all in all, it went smooth.

He asked us what was in the uhaul, Nick looked at me and then looked back at him and said ..."All her....stuff". LOL Yes, I took a lot of ####### with me!! wink.gif

He asked us to pull over to the side, park and go inside. There were many people inside and it seemed disorganized. I forgot that they called my name so at first we were both confused as to what to do, so many people were filling out different things, busy families and it was quite packed. Then I remembered and was like "We just wait till my name is called".

About 20 minutes later a very nice lady called me to the counter (She didn't even care about Nick, said nothing to him really). She asked me when we were getting married. I told her right now the plan is August 2nd, but that may change. I also told her I knew about the 90 day window to marry. She said "Good".

She then told us to take a seat and she would call us back.

We sat and waited. Nick and I are total people watchers so we watched and kissed a bit wink.gif and Nick entertained me by making me laugh...He always does.

Another 20 minutes went by and I was called back. She gave me my passport and told me we had to get married by October 19th. I asked her about the EAD stamp and she really had no idea as to what I was talking about. She went and talked with another officer and came back and told me I should apply at my local EAD office... blink.gif ... LOL whatever that is!!! LOL wink.gif

All in all it took about 50 minutes and they never even looked in my uhaul.

The whole trip took about 8 hours, we stopped twice, once in Upstate NY for a bathroom break, Nick had some Timmy's and Timbits. We also stopped in Pennsylvania for gas and Nick bought me a rose luv.gif I packed us a nice lunch so we ate in the truck, listened to music, sang and I slept a bit.

We only had to fill up twice and it cost us quite a bit under what we guesstimated. 200.00 bucks in gas so the total trip cost us just under 1000.00. The truck ran great, no problems at all.

We arrived in Bergen County around 5pm. Nick brought me inside our apartment and presented me with a present he bought me....
A 24 inch MAC!!!!!! OMG!!!!! WOO I'm typing on it now..it's killer and I'm in love luv.gif

We woke up early, unpacked and got everything inside around noon. We dropped the truck off and spent the afternoon with some friends. Now we are just chilling, unpacking slowly and getting things organized. I have some work to do to make this place "our place", but we'll get there.

I'm going to apply for EI tomorrow morning or maybe tonight.

I love the apartment and am just having such a great time with Nick. It doesn't seem real yet, I keep thinking I'll be going home after my visit...I don't think it'####### me yet that I am home.

smile.gif

I hope everyone is doing well and had a great weekend!!! biggrin.gif

LOVE YOU ALL!

Maybe the two of you need to find a new city for the both of you to call a new home. I lived in Toronto a few years ago. I really didn't like it. I moved back to NYC, but then my SO and I were apart as I waited for him to move down. And waited and waited... b/c he hates NYC. He's finally here, but our plan is to both move to BC next year, a new place for us both. Perhaps rather than weighing where you're from with where you are, you could both talk about the kinds of things you want to have where you live, and then do some research on what cities offer the kind of lifestyle you want.

This is exactly what I was going to say....
I think talking over the qualities in a place you are both looking for, then researching and finding a spot that you both could live with would be a great solution.

You have to be happy...I hope you find a place that fits you both! smile.gif

We plan on using custom house in the future.

I just got my bank to make out a money order from my account to Nick's and the nice woman at my bank waived the fee. lol She was young and was very happy for Nick and I smile.gif I've been banking there since I started banking and we were sort of friends.

I lucked out in that aspect. Hopefully once I start getting EI from Canada and the money is put into my account, we'll transfer it using custom house.
