CanadaWe got a kitty!!
Well we got a kitty!!! smile.gif WOO!

He's so adorable!!
We went to Petsmart because a local shelter does adoptions there Wednesdays and Fridays between 7 and 9pm. We went last night to actually look at another cat that I found online. Her name was Shelby but she was far too small. When we walked in (even before we saw Shelby) we saw our little guy and he was so affectionate to us! He kissed our hands, nudged us, wanted hugs and I literally fell in love with him at first sight.

The kind lady let Nick and I take him into a back room and play with him and we both knew he was for us.
The lady said that he had been with the shelter for over a month and no one really payed any attention to him!! Can you imagine?!?! He was in a foster home previous to that and he's about 8 months old.

We brought him home just about an hour ago and he's adjusting nicely. He's explored the whole apartment, slept on our bed a bit and been so sweet to both Nick and I. He hasn't hissed or made a fuss, not even on the ride home. What a doll luv.gif

Now we need your help!! A name!!! Any suggestions??? smile.gif

CanadaTravelled here together?
Nick and I drove down together.

Nick came up and helped my family and I pack the uhaul and then we drove the 7 and 1/2 hour trip together.
We had so much fun and I loved every second. I packed a lunch and lots of snacks, we had some great tunes and just enjoyed the ride.

smile.gif It was my torch through this whole thing, the thought of us driving together home got me through many a lonely day.

Laura, don't freak! You didn't make a mistake. Whatever could have been or wasn't or whatever... look, you and Nick are together now, you're married. If you decide to move back to Canada in the future, you will. Just later. Look at the fact that you completed the K visa successfully and are no longer apart! There's no use going over what could have beens. Just focus on now and on the future. smile.gif

Thank you hon, I needed that.
Had a good cry, missing my parents, my cats and my lovely street that I lived on but I'm okay now.
I'm with Nick, that's all that matters.

I'm in talks for my dream position in Vancouver kicking.gif The hubby's only been here for 9 months and is still really digging the southwest, but I can't wait to move back to my "real" home. It's not set in stone yet but unless something unexpected and drastic happens we should be moving by December. Did I mention that it's my dream job and it's in the coolest city biggrin.gif

I still have to figure out how to reimport/repatriate our stuff. (some of it has immigrated twice already blush.gif ) I'll probably be back seeking help when the move gets closer, but just wanted to share the news.

I wish I had gotten there a little earlier, but I was sluggish... ah well. I finished a book and started a new one while i was there. (finished it on the bus later this weekend as I was travelling between montreal, ottawa and hamilton) Lots of bus time logged this weekend.

will be moving dec 7. wedding will be feb 28

Wow, that's a long time to wait to move....I don't know if I would have been able to wait that long knowing I had a document in my hand that allowed me to be with the man I love.
Do what is best for you though!!

Yes, there are a a lot of different answers laughing.gif I just went down and said, I want an SSN card...and produced my information. I checked that I wasn't authorized. I don't even know if they said anything to me about that or if they changed the check mark. Maybe it depends on whether you get a hassle from them, or someone telling you, you can't have one. If you're authorized, and you show the documentation that you are...why does your SSN card say "not authorized to work without DHS approval", or something like that.

It's soooooooooo crazy. Just take the documentation down with your passport Laura, and see what they say. You have lots of time, matter of fact, you might not even be in the system yet.

Really?
It's been over 2 weeks.

CanadaSSN in New Jersey
I can't for the life of me find any websites on google showing me where I apply for a SSN near where I live. I live in Bergen County in New Jersey.

I want to know the requirements, I think I know most of them but one I'm unsure of is on one website. It talks about if you are not work authorized but you need a SSN in order to get some sort of federal or whatever benefits that you need to show a document stating that. I can't get onto Nick's medical benefits at work until I have a SSN, so do I need a stupid document from them stating that or will they give me a SSN without it?

ARG! Why can't this be easier, I've typed in every possible way of saying "Where do I apply for a SSN in New Jersey" and I get squat.

Help! lol

I met thewhites this AM at the consulate. We sat next to each other and chatted throughout the morning. I'll leave you all in suspense about their results and let her tell her story wink.gif

While waiting for the elevators (downstairs), I took the opportunity to ask the other two couples if they had used a immigration forum. . . . . . ahem any vjers I can out? And then - she said yes, visajourney, we were instant buddies from that point on.

So alas - we're approved - I'll write a more detailed review shortly. I've gotta find some vashon cakes for my mom and spruce beer for my brother before I head home. . . . . stay tuned. biggrin.gif

Hi Laura,

I just sent off my AOS package to the lockbox in Chicago. I found on the USCIS website that USCIS would accept my Canadian immunization records (from the civil surgeon exam) because the exam was done before a certain date. BUT, I don't trust these people (USCIS) to know their own rules and regulations. I used the guy in texas to transcribe my records too. They were very fast, I got it back in less than a week and they sent me a copy for myself and a sealed one for my AOS package. I agree, better to take the extra step, more because from what I've observed from other peoples experiences, people at USCIS don't know their own rules or have the ability to recognize the required documents so I decided to go the extra mile. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for no RFE's.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks Rupa!!
I'm still waiting on them to mail it back...I mailed it out on Thursday so... smile.gif Hopefully I get it soon!

Other than that document, I'm all ready!!

No don't risk it if there's been changes. Plus you can get it transfered for a very good price, I would just get it done then.

Better over prepared than getting an RFE, I have never received an RFE and I don't think you have either, keep the record clean! biggrin.gif
