guides6ly.gif

K3's are taking about 8 to 10 months to be approved.
Everything you need to know is in the Guides. You are already married, so yes, a spousal visa would be your best option.

You came to the States to get married or were you already married prior to entry?

~Laura and Nick~FemaleCanada2008-07-31 14:37:00
CanadaI watched my friend get grilled at the border
Why do some people think that rules and regulations don't apply to them and that they can get away with ####### that other people can't?

Your friend needs to come to VJ, read up on the immigration process and how long it takes. Our visa journey was 7 months (We feel this was lucky) there are others that have waited much longer and our still waiting from before Nick and I filed!!!

I agree with the others. Lying is something that shouldn't even be in your mind to do, especially to a POE officer. Was she not thinking? She has a boyfriend who she wants to marry and is thinking about moving to his country to be with him, lying and making up fake documents to try and weasel her way around the rules is so dangerous. I would never ever risk that especially when my relationship was on the line!! She does know that lying to a POE officer could put her on a 10 year ban right? Sigh.

If she does get back in to visit (Which is unlikely unless she has much more documentation now of returning back to Canada after the visit) They can file for a K1 while she is there, that's not a problem but she must return to Canada to get her police certificate, medical and then eventually the interview at either Vancouver or Montreal based on where she lives. She cannot overstay though, that's huge so she needs to watch how much time she's staying in the States. She also can't start moving her possessions down to the States before she lives there, so don't think she can just mosey on down there and move in before she has proper documentation.

She needs to know that there are rules in place for a reason and one slip up like she has done could cost her huge, and for what? 3 months with him...that's nothing compared to the rest of their lives and she has put that at risk.

Send her to VJ, she needs a hard dose of reality.

Shortly after the ceremony we got a call from a friend who told us to seek shelter...a huge storm had just passed through Jersey and was heading for us, boy was she right!!!

The clouds were rolling in, right behind the Ghost Busters buildings too!!! We just made it to our cars when the downpour came...lol.

Holy shite! Wasn't that quite the storm? My husband and I were driving back from Atlantic City as it started to come down. Every one had to pull over because no one could see for about 5 minutes. Everything flooded around my area, like usual...but it was massive.

It was crazy!!! LOL I have a really funny picture of Shelby and I walking back to the car with the strong wind and the look on my face is priceless!!!
LOL We kept singing the Ghost Busters theme song and saying quotes from the movie cause the sky looked like in the movie and it was just so funny.

I've heard it's good luck to have rain after the ceremony so, we should have lots of it!!!

Thanks guys!!

Yesterday was great!!! smile.gif

We got married in Central Park at the ladies pavilion at 11am. It was wonderful!!! My best friend Shelby drove down from Canada to stand up with me, I was so happy to have her be there.

There were children and people walking by and this old man came into the gazebo and watched and cheered for us when we kissed.
We took many pictures before and after (I'll upload soon, we are off to the renaissance fair today!!!) Shortly after the ceremony we got a call from a friend who told us to seek shelter...a huge storm had just passed through Jersey and was heading for us, boy was she right!!!

The clouds were rolling in, right behind the Ghost Busters buildings too!!! We just made it to our cars when the downpour came...lol.

We were a little upset because we wanted to go around the park and take more pictures but with the rain, obviously we couldn't.
We'll go back one day and take more smile.gif

Then last night a bunch of our friends threw us an amazing party and we had a great time. It was perfect.

Thank so much for all the well wishes!!!! smile.gif I can't believe I'm married!!! YAY

***Congrats to BH, I thought of you!!!!***

CanadaCommitment Decisions...
Well...
Nick and I knew from very very early on in our relationship that we had found our significant others.
When I first saw him I felt in my heart he was going to be my husband.

We knew we wanted to be together and so we researched how to do just that. We found that it was quickest to be together through the K1 visa and through marriage. So we dated for over a year long distance before we even filed. We didn't want to rush anything.

We filed in December and in my mind I never thought I'd get a official proposal because we had already agreed to marry but Nick proposed to me in the snow on Christmas Eve and it was very very magical.

I'm glad we got married but I know that I would have loved to have spent that first year and a bit actually with Nick but that wasn't possible, there isn't a boyfriend visa like someone else suggested on another thread.

I'm a firm believer of "when you know, you know" and with Nick and I, we both just knew.

Hey Laura,
or should I say, MRS. Laura!!!!
Congrats. hope the wedding went well.

I had 2 cats, and if you might remember.. Anil is allergic.. so our agreement was..
I kept Toby.. ( i have had him for 12 years)
and found a new home for Miss Graycee.

She went to a home, where she loved the people and she is not a cuddly cat.. but did with these people..
2 days later.. she was back with me.. howling all night.. crying..

next day.. she went off with another guy.. fell in love and has been fine.. so somehow cats do find their owners.. no matter what they need to do..

your new cat may not be coming to you yet.. hold her, mark some piece of blanket or pillow for her only.. put her on it, and give her her own scent on the pillow.. it usually takes a couple of weeks for cats to get used to their new home..
good luck and keep me posted!!

Love Cin and Anil!!

Thanks Cin!!! smile.gif Thanks everyone!!!!

Would you be interested in a 7 month Lab named Cooper?

We've only been up for a few hours and he has chewed up a magazine, destroyed my new toothbrush, destroyed some of my make up sponges, made a poo on the rug in the living room, pulled some plants out of the pond in the backyard, and I have had to get one of Mel's shoes out of his mouth about about 5 times.

He is so naughty in the mornings!!

OMG! LOL Sorry this made me laugh so much!!!

Oh Laura,...I know how you feel about the connection,....The kitty we got in June had been abadoned in a military house, and had been in a cage at the vets clinic onm base here since February. he had been locked up and left behind in the house, and was found by the cleaners. I had looked at a few shelters, and petsmarts, and places like that,..but none of the kittys "felt' right to me.
Now, MR. Smokey Bones, on the other hand,...was so playful,..and meowed, and came to the front of the cage so quick looking for some love. I looked at his face, and was immediately hit with a feeling. It was kinda funny,..I took him outta the cage, and went to put him on the ground so I could pat him, and play a lil,..and all he wanted was cuddles. The clinic gives you a trial period of a week,...to see if he adjusts and stuff,..oh and let me tell you,..he adjusted fine,..he loves the fact he has a big house, and not a cage to explore, and it always at your feet at the table,..or sitting next to you on the couch, or laying perched up in his cat tree watching everyone. he has to be where he can see everybody. At night,..he sleeps at the top of the stairs, at the intersection basically of all three rooms,..so he can see if anyone moves etc. He sits at his bowl, and meows once or twice when he wants food, and after you put food in the bowl,..he actually nuzzles you befopre eatting,..He is THE sweetest thing....and he was a year old,..not a kitten, but not fully mature either I guess.

oh I loves my Mr. smokey Bones!!

Cherish your Mr. Smokey Bones!! He sounds like a complete doll!!!

Nick and I both want to adopt an older cat, doesn't have to be a kitten because we know that so many older cats need homes.

We are going to go to the shelter tonight. Our landlord is writing us an approval letter today so we can show the shelter so, yay.

Well thanks guys smile.gif

After much debate and talking about the things you all wrote, Nick and I have decided that that kitty is not the one for us.
I just emailed the woman who has him and thanked her very much.

You are right, we didn't feel a connection with him and every cat that I've had before (I've had cats all my life) I've felt an instant connection with. We'll keep looking and hopefully find a sweet cat that is just right for us!

Thanks for all your help!!!

CanadaKitty Woes
So Nick and I have been meaning to get a kitty for awhile now. The problem is that our apartment agreement states "No Animals". We talked to our land lord and he doesn't mind cats at all. In fact, many tenants here have cats (You can see them in the window). He said it's fine as long as it's not a big huge dog.

We wanted to adopt a very handsome kitty but the shelter needed to see the rental agreement to make sure pets are allowed. We wouldn't have been approved to get this kitty (which broke my heart)...so...by Mephys suggestion I checked out craigslist and found this adorable kitty.

Nick and I drove the 1/2 hour to go see him yesterday and we were sort of disappointed.

He didn't come right to us. He seemed to want to go outside very very badly. He did allow us to pet him and he was purring and nudging up against our hands when we pet him but the entire time he seemed to be focused on getting outside and was meowing quite a bit. He was a stray and found his way to this nice woman's home. She is such a nice lady, calm, a yoga instructor and was even playing meditative music for him and us! LOL In the past 3 weeks she has gotten him fixed and gotten all his shots and he's ready for a home. She isn't asking anything for him.

Nick and I just feel like, what if he didn't warm up to us? What if he constantly wanted outside? (which he can't) Nick was just hoping he'd actually come to us when we were calling for him but he never did. I thought it was awesome that after just a few moments he was being so affectionate with us (I think that's a good sign after all he's been through) but at the same time, he wasn't really interested either.

We are confused as to what to do and I haven't been able to sleep. I don't want to settle for the first cat that comes along. He is adorable and everything but in my gut I really don't know if he's the right fit for us. We have been to places where the cats just come right up to us and are instantly affectionate, etc. I understand this kitty has been through a lot but it was still sort of disappointing.

What do you guys think? I have to call the lady back today (Friday, it's like 6am right now, I woke up and can't get back to sleep)

sad.gif I miss having a little companion so, this is a hard decision.

CanadaMy Montreal Review
Well hello there people!!!

I just arrived home from Montreal and it was a long train ride but I made it!! kicking.gif

My mom and I left on Thursday morning, bright and early. The train ride wasn't that bad, we got great seats and I got some great shots along the way. Mostly I just wanted to get there and get it over with!!!

We arrived at Union station Montreal and walked the few blocks to our awesome hotel...Hotel Europe (Best Western) It was great. Lovely lobby, the people were very nice, rooms were spacious and clean. We were very happy. Plus, it's right off of Catherine so HELLO! SHOPPING!!!

So...
I woke up bright and early (5:45am) on Interview day and made the 4 or so block walk to the Embassy. There weren't many people on the streets, it was cool and a nice enjoyable walk. I couldn't believe how calm I was...not one bit of nervousness.

The embassy is on 1155 Rue St. Alexandre which is on the corner of Rue St. Alexander and Rue LeBlanc O, it's a tall gray building.
Here is a picture of the embassy entrance.

If you are coming off of Rue. St Catherine street like I was (The huge shopping street) There is a pharmacy on the corner, turn right there and the embassy is on your left on Rue St. Alexandre.

When I got there Leona (Lonaona) was there (BIG HUGS GIRL!! It was amazing meeting you!!! I'm sorry I never got to say bye!!!)
We talked for a bit, she was nervous and I tried to calm her...what a doll. luv.gif

Then some other people showed up and and just before 7:30am, Anil and Cindy showed up (YOU GUYS ROCK!! Anil, thanks for all the worldly knowledge and for making me laugh...How did it go btw?? Can't wait to hear!!)

They let me in with no appointment letter, just asked if I had a cellphone and I handed over my email from Montreal confirming my date and my passport. Then we walked up a few steps to a glass wall with two doors, they let you in one at a time. The man asked me to put all my stuff in the container to be scanned (Just like an airport) and then to walk through the metal detector. They never made me empty my file folder (Thank GOD!) Nothing went off (yay me) and then they made me spread em so I could be scanned with the wand thingy. Now came the most serious part of the whole experience. I was standing there waiting for Leona (In my mind I totally forgot where I was cause it was just so great to have people there I knew!!) She was detained because she had forgotten a small pocket knife in her purse and I stood there waiting for her and the officer turned to me and said in a very stern voice "MA'AM" dry.gif OOPS!! LOL I said a quick "sorry!!" and made my way through the door on the right (Which is on your left when you come in but is on your right when you are through the detectors) Then you go down a set of stairs and go into another waiting room.

So there we were, Letter A, Leona, Letter B, Me and Letter C, Anil and Cindy. We chatted casually, it really made it fun!!! A very nice but quiet man came down the elevator about 5 minutes later and escorted us up to floor 19, he made sure that we were the ones with the letters, anyone else in the waiting room who didn't have a letter was not allowed on.

We got up to the 19th floor....WOW!! What a view!!! Wish I could have brought my camera!!! They called me first to window 14 (Which is down a hall and into another little room) and the very kind lady asked for:
My email from the consulate (in replace of my appointment letter)
My birth certificate and a copy
My medical
My passport and 2 pictures
My divorce paper and a copy
DS156K
The I-134 and the letter from Nicks employer (They didn't even want his tax, pay stubs or bank stuff)
Nick's letter of intent (not mine! what a waste of paper!)
My express post envelope.

Then she gave me a slip of paper and asked me to go and pay at the cashiers. (You go out and turn left and walk to the end on the left and pay) I did and went back and sat down.

At that point, Keith and Melinda (keithnlindy) came in (You guys were so nice!!!! Best of luck to you both in Georgia!!!) It was funny cause they were like "Are you Laura?!" Cin&Anil and Leona had done the same thing... laughing.gif I felt like a celebrity a bit!!! LOL Anyway...
Shortly, she called me back and did the fingerprints (Stand back and put your arms straight out when you do the thumb part, it's easier) and she also took the copy of the receipt, showing I had paid.

Then I sat back down and waited to be called for my interview.
Literally 10 minutes later a man called me to window number 8.

When I walked in I was instantly greeted with a huge smile by honestly the kindest man I have EVER met. His name was Gregory. He welcomed me and we talked casually about how Nick and I met, what the video game we met on was all about (he seemed pretty interested in that) and he asked me a bit about New Jersey. Then he said "Oops! I forgot to turn on my computer and log in!!!" He said he was retired and only did this part time and it was his first day there!! LOL He seemed kind of embarrassed but I just said "That's okay!!!" and we laughed and talked casually about how dependent we are on computers these days. We talked a bit about my work at Lowe's and what I may be doing when I move down. It didn't feel at ALL like an interview. We talked a bit about how long my process took, he asked when we got approved and I told him rather quick, like 3 months. He said he didn't understand why it took some people so much longer since they were the ones making the final decision!!! LOL It was weird. Then he asked me to put my finger on the little scanner to make sure it was me. He asked for my middle finger wink.gif and said "Yep, that's definately you!!!" I said "Oh thank Goodness!!!" and we laughed laughing.gif He asked me to raise my right hand and swear everything I had stated was the truth and that I intended to Marry Nick. I did. He asked me when we were getting married. I said August 16th and he said "very good."

He slid the DS156K back under the glass and had me sign the bottom. Then double checked through my file to make sure I had signed everything so he didn't have to have me come all the way back to Montreal (he was joking and we laughed) smile.gif

He then casually said "So, no kids for you guys yet?" I said "not yet, we want to be together just us for a bit first" He said "Good plan" wink.gif
He then said "Well Laura....I am very pleased to say you are approved! I'm very impressed with your application, very organized! I wish you both much luck, Congratulations!!!"

kicking.gif

I told him I wanted to give him a big hug and thanked him very very much.

He gave me back my divorce certificate and my birth certificate back and told me they would be mailing my visa off either that day or Monday. He told me about how the visa would look in my passport and talked about how the POE would be, etc. He talked to me about not leaving the States without authorization. I said "Advanced Parole?" He said "wow, you've done your homework!" LOL I said "I sure have!!"

That was it...and it was only 8:55am. star_smile.gif

I went back out, gave Anil and Cindy a hug and said bye to Keith and Melinda, Leona was in her interview so I didn't get to say bye to her. I made my way down the elevator and back to the street. When I got back to the hotel I called Nick and we both cried with happiness.

Montreal was lovely. My mom and I had a terrific bus tour and ate at some great places. I found the people there very nice and everyone spoke English. All you have to do is speak English to them first. I want to go back with Nick for like a week and really get to spend some time there. I adored it.

So..that's it! The train ride home was great...we got to ride on this old sleeper car and it was super comfortable. smile.gif

Good luck to everyone who has interviews coming up and thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way. I love this site and I'm so so thankful for all the help I have gotten from each and every one of you!!! star_smile.gif

CanadaMarriage Certificate
Our officiant mailed us a copy of the marriage license that she mailed in after we got married.
She said it's up to a 4 to 6 week wait for the Marriage Certificate to be mailed back to us from the State.
Do I have to wait for that or can I use the copy of what she mailed us for the AOS process?

Thanks smile.gif

If there isn't room on the form, I'd just attach a one paragraph explanation that you'd want to be able to travel on AP back to Canada before obtaining your GC to visit family and friends. Don't put down any specific dates or anything.

Why no explanation of dates? what if you need a specific date? I'm not there yet, but I will need to file it for my high school reunion next summer. Or is it a re-usable document? and do you have to file for both after you are already married, or can you do it as soon as you enter the US?
thanks

If you have specific dates and you know them, yes put that down.
Most people don't have specific dates so it's good to know you can put either down and be approved.

no, we are not allowed pets here..

although two of our neighbors have dogs mad.gif and I am 98 percent sure that they don't have permission to have them no0pb.gif

We technically aren't allowed either. In our lease it says no animals allowed. Our landlord on the other hand, didn't really mind. He said a cat is fine, just as long as we don't get some huge dog.

He's quiet and doesn't make much noise, he's so perfect for an apartment.

Thanks guys! smile.gif

Yep, he's been neutered and had all his shots up to date and he's an indoor cat. He's very lovey and goes in the litter box. He's currently playing with Nick in the guest bedroom with Mojo's favourite toy. It's a round toy with a ball that lights up and spins around and in the middle is a scratching center. He loves it and I can hear Nick giggling! He's like a kid!!! LOL
This is his first cat so I'm loving watching him with MoJo.

I think we'll be very happy for years to come luv.gif

CanadaWe got a kitty!!
We just took like an hour and 1/2 nap (We were up late last night out with friends) and MoJo slept underneath our bed like a good little boy the whole time. Nick is still sleeping, I'm up and MoJo followed me in here and is sleeping at my feet.
What a doll. We love him and he seems to be feeling quite at home.

Thanks for all the well wishes.
