CanadaThe Loving on Laura Thread.
Nick and I are feeling better this evening.
We went to his parents house for cake and Nick drank a few beers.
As we walked home (We live 2 blocks away) Nick stopped and thanked me for standing by him.
I told him he never has to thank me...that we are SO strong because of what we've been through and that we will get through this.
I know in my heart we will be okay and perhaps this is a huge turning point for Nick and getting the career that he deserves.

I cannot believe the support that I have gotten since I first posted this morning, it's unreal.
I am so very thankful, I'm overwhelmed.

Thank you all so so much....even though that doesn't feel like enough for how you have all made me feel.

I like her helpfulness, her sense of humour and even her cheesiness.

I miss you and hope all is well smile.gif

Last night we had a party to celebrate Nick's birthday...he got VERY drunk and is sleeping. I made him some toast and brought him some coffee.
I'm getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.
Nick is feeling better and we are just going to focus on working together to figure out what he wants to do, what I want to do, etc.

smile.gif
Thanks again all.

Len, you kick butt.
Maeve, thanks for the smiles.

Laura - my heart goes out to you both. It's a sad situation. You have every right to panic and be concerned about the process. As others have said, I'm sure Nick will find himself a new job and you are going to be right there to support him

You are both strong people and will see this rough patch through together. That's what counts - together.

(((((((((( hugs )))))))))) I'll keep you both in my prayers.

Thank you honey.

Thank you again, everyone.
Your words mean the world to me.

Nick came home, I made him a big breakfast and we just cuddled on the couch and talked about our future.
We will be okay.
I'm relieved about the AOS situation and hopefully we'll get by without an interview.

I ordered Nick a big basket of chocolate covered fruit for his birthday (had to call and get them to deliver to the house instead of at his job) and it came about 1/2 an hour ago. That cheered him up a bit.

I'm very lucky to have him and I'm so so proud of his strength right now.

Thank you again guys...we'll make it.

Thank you.

Chill out? Okay...I'll get right on that. Sorry, like 20 people viewed this and said nothing...I'm upset...can you blame me???

Anyway...

Do I contact the USCIS? We do have people to co-sponsor, that's not a problem and Nick will be looking for work.
We started the AOS because we needed to...I wasn't going to pay extra for EAD and AP and I need to start working and I need to visit home.

We have a lot of money saved up so we aren't too worried about rent and bills right now, also Nick will be getting unemployment until he gets a job...I just don't know how to go about the USCIS AOS aspect of sponsorship.....

I just got my NOA's for AOS, AP and EAD and today....on Nick's 30th Birthday....he got laid off work.

He works in the auto industry, parts department.......

I'm freaking out....what do we do?

Sponsorship...do I have to contact the USCIS and let them know he isn't working....I'm scared.....

I know the EI thread can be a little long to read... so in short, she is eligible for EI based on the fact that the K1 is considered work authorized by the EI people in Canada.

Technically we know that's not true, but everyone here seems to get approved!

I'm collecting smile.gif
It ends when my I-94 is up and then I just call them when I get my EAD and I can start collecting again.

Hi Everyone (especially fellow Canucks),

For me, when I say that I'm "Canadian", they don't usually believe me. Maybe it's because I don't look like a "typical" Canadian and I am a Canadian Citizen through naturalization. But yes, I do run into funny situations about being Canadian or lack of being a Canadian.

For example, I remember the following situations:

Situation 1:
American: "Where are you from?"
Me: "Canada"
American: Give a look on their face...like this... blink.gif .
American: "Where are your parents from?"
Me: "Canada"
American: Again, another look... blink.gif and walks away....

Situation 2:
American: "Where are you from? Where were you born?"
Me: "Canada. That's my country of citizenship. Then I mention another birth country."
American: "So what do I type in here then?" (they were filling out some information on the computer)
Me: "Canada, I guess. Or you can type in both. Whatever you want."
American: (Types on the computer ) and says "It looks like you've travelled around quite a bit"
American: And a look of... blink.gif ...

Situation 3:
Canadian (Border guard, crossing the border): "Country of Citizenship?"
Me: "Canada"
Canadian: Looks at my Green Card and my Canadian Passport, looks at me. And has a blink.gif face...
Canadian: "Where did you first meet your husband?"
Me: "Canada"
Canadian: "How long have you been out of the country? (thinking that I overstayed in the USA)"
Me: "I live in the USA as a permanent resident. But I'm visiting Canada"

Situation 4:
American: "Aren't you a US Citizen now, since you got married here?"
Me: "Not yet. There's something called 'immigration' that I have to go through"
American: "I thought people who became married here were automatically US Citizens. My relative became a US Citizen when they got married."
Me: "Maybe 40-50 years ago or so. Times have changed...."

Situation 5:
American: "Tell me a bit about your culture, as I'd like to learn more about it"
Me: I tell them a bit of information about Canada and where I grew in there
American: Has a blink.gif look on their face...
American: "I meant your other culture"
Me: That is my former culture. That where I grew up in, lived in, and have citizenship of.
American: "Oh. And another blink.gif . And then asks me questions about my birth country culture."
Me: I have a look of blink.gif on my face, not knowing any more information. And then say, "Umm...I think you should talk to my grandparents about this. I have no idea what you're talking about"

Situation 6:
Me (filling out forms): "Country of Birth"
Me: Writes: "Former Citizenship: Canada, Country of Birth: (Lists Birth Country Here)"
American: "Can I have a copy of your American birth certificate"
Me: Gives them the following information: "My Canadian Passport, Canadian Citizenship Card, Birth Certificate, US Green Card"
American: Has a blink.gif look on their face. "I might as well photocopy all of this, as I don't know what else to do"
American: Photocopies all the information I gave them for their records...

Lol....I'm sure I can think of many other blink.gif situations here....
But yeah, it's hard to be Canadian (or preceived lack of) at times and not be stereotyped because of it...

Ant (Canadian, caught in a blink.gif American world...)

I have Canadian flags all over my purse...I've had many people compliment.

Also, it's funny...Nick and I always see Canadian stuff here....driving, we see Ontario license plates...we were in a restaurant and the guy sitting across from us had a "Canada" shirt on. The woman that married us, on her main page had a couple getting married and the groom was dressed as a Mounty. Little things like that always make us smile.
