CanadaCanadian Cheddar and a quick hello

This is my complaint about American cheese! I miss really good cheddar. I have bought Extra sharp extra old cheddar here - and it tastes like a mild or a medium cheddar back in Canada. They have NO IDEA what a good cheese is supposed to taste like. All of the cheese -old, sharp, medium, whatever - are all mild and new cheese - nothing that has a real bite to it at all.

I have found some real Canadian cheese in Whole Foods now and again but the closest Whole Foods is on the other side of Atlanta so we don't get there very often.

I had my Dad bring me some real cheese last Spring when he came down - old chedddar from Wilton's Cheese Factory. OMG - I was in heaven while it lasted! So, enjoy your good cheese. And good luck with the house!

Kathryn, Hello friend :)

Nick and I both work at WFM and to be honest, I've never really gone to specialty cheese and asked to see if they have Canadian imported cheddar...I'm sure they do, I'm just too busy when I work to notice. I'm going to ask today when I go in :)

lol I love how we all have our little gripes but honestly, the cheese here just doesn't have the same consistency and taste...it tastes too processed or something...I can't describe it. Nick loves the cheese in Canada way better too ;)

So nice to see some familiar faces on here still kickin around! :)

CanadaCanadian Cheddar and a quick hello
Hello my fellow Canadians...
I just wanted to share something with you that I found funny.

So yesterday, Nick and I stopped by our local market to pick up some things for supper. This market has a wide array of cheeses and I found a "Canadien Sharp" cheddar...lol I then dug deeper and found the correct spelling of Canadian on the label and bought one of those :P

Anyway,
Today for lunch I made myself a sandwich and sliced open the cheese, took a bite and low and behold............... :o ...............It's the same exact cheddar that I'm use to in Canada!!! .....it's totally laughable that down here they are calling it "sharp" because this is not sharp at all, it's the regular everyday cheese that I have eaten since I was 2.
I'm excited that I found it down here...I hate the cheese that is available.

Just wanted to share :jest:

Things are going pretty well for Nick and I. Our mortgage company went under right when we put an offer in on a house but we found another one and should be closing in about 2 weeks. We are thrilled.

Hope everyone is doing well and happy new year to all :)

Yesterday at work Sharon wasn't feeling well at all (tired to point of collapsing) after being there 2 hour, she waited for a replacement and then went to the hospital emergency to get checked out and was told it would take as much as 3 month to recover from her illness, this is not good as all it does is add more stress in her life and it is stress that she is trying to recover from. Right now she on her way to her doctor since she (doctor) was called by the hospital yesterday and told to see the doctor first thing this morning.

I know everyone well wish well and a speedy recovery, that is what I will tell her on your behalf. Thank you for tolerating my latest post as they are not the most pleasant reading material available.

I have a friend who lives in Manhattan and he pays $1400/mo. in an apartment subsidized by his employer. NYC and vacinity has probably the most expensive real estate in the US and it is incredibly difficult to get anything decent for the money. Don't feel bad though, Jerry Seinfeld paid $32 million dollars for Billy Joel's house on Long Island and spent another $10 million just to make it habitable.

P.S.- you do have amazingly beautiful teeth.

As far as the root canal goes- you can always hold off. If the tooth is extremely sensitive and really bothers you or starts to hurt then you may want to go for it.

I don't know if you have ever had one before- it really isn't that bad to go through.

Thanks hon!
Yeah, root canal always sounded soooo scary and painful to me...but many people say it's not that bad.
I'm not in pain at all and he's filled the teeth that are the ones doomed for the root canal which he says will delay in the need for one.
So we'll see.

Does Nick have dental insurance? Might be lots cheaper here actually. I have dental and don't pay much at all for dental care and my dentist is top notch. And root canals are covered. I realize not everyone in the US has dental, but if he does...

Sounds like you have your mind made up already though...hope it doesn't get too expensive!! That really stinks. The money would be better spent on your honeymoon. At least if he does have dental, you can go in for your regular checkups and avoid yucky work like this in the future. And for those visits (preventative) you don't pay a dime usually. Perhaps a sterilization fee of $5, but that's it.

Yes, Nick has full dental coverage.

I have a confession, I'm a rabid anti-Dentite. laughing.gif I feel for you but a root canal can last a good long time and what most people don't realize is that the act of brushing your teeth actually damages the enamel as can grinding your teeth, various acidic foods and carbonic acid (pop) and even trying to gnaw through your own leg ( don't ask, growing up with Len as your sister was nothing if not interesting and more than a bit painful.) laughing.gif It is possible to have a perfectly healthy-looking tooth without even a cavity yet have enough microfissures in the enamel that there has been an insult to the pulp. I'm taking a wild guess, but by any chance were the caries in the molars? Depending on how many roots the tooth has, will affect the cost, since each root canal has to be obdurated with gutta percha (same stuff they use in golf balls.) Most people drink pop heavily and it is reflected in the increasing number of caries that are seen today.

BTW, there's an old mechanic's trick to unstick an engine that is seized with rust, pour a little pop in the cylinders and let it sit overnight. It works pretty well, and an engine is an alloy of iron and nickel. Can you imagine what the stuff will do to your teeth? crying.gif Always drink some water or gargle after drinking pop.

laughing.gif IR....smile.gif
Yeah, it's all molars....I only need one root canal, or so he said so...sigh. I'll work it out.

Well I'm fcuking screwed.

I hadn't been to the dentist in 4 years. Finally, I got a good job where I actually have coverage and so, I went.

Just came back from my 4th appointment...
The first three were cleanings...today was 2 fillings.
I find out that I have a total of 9 cavities.
I have to go back twice more to get the rest done.

The two they filled today are deep and I will more than likely need a root canal with a crown.

I'm only covered for so much and I've already used over half of it. So all the money I've saved up since starting this new job will be over half gone.

I'm in tears and completely heartbroken. I was so proud of all the money I've saved and now....this sucks so bad. crying.gif

Nick says it's only paper and we will work through it together. I just can't believe I let it get this bad. I have beautiful teeth, white and straight but I guess looks are deceiving.

I need to vent about my Drivers license exam yesterday. I thought I could just try to "let it go" but I can't. The written part went fine- I was more nervous about the written than the actual driving.

The driving test- the girl was extremely unfriendly- she didn't speak very loudly or clearly so I had to ask her a few times to repeat herself. I thought everything was going along great- I was calm and in my opinion, driving very well. I have been driving for over 15 years- I wasn't cocky but I was confident in my driving abilities. I have always felt that I am a safe, courteous driver.

Anyway- we get back to the DMV and she tells to sit down and walks away. A little while later she comes back and tells me I almost failed the driving exam. She said I drive too fast. I said "Excuse me? I was never over the speed limit." She says "You don't have to be over the speed limit to be driving too fast." I was stunned- she told me she was passing me and went on about my driving exam. She told me the things I was good at too but I didn't hear much of what she said.

I know it shouldn't matter but I am still fuming over this. Being a speeder or overly fast driver is not me at all. I keep replaying the driving exam in my head and really feel I was I was driving at a safe and comfortable speed with the flow of the traffic.

I am happy I finally got it and don't have to deal with the DMV for another 4 years.

That's flipping ridiculous. mad.gif
I think sometimes they just give people a hard time out of boredom.
Let it slide off your back, you have your license, you KNOW you are a good driver, that's all that matters.

It would seem that it had been sitting in Montreal for the past few months as VSC states it received the application on April 7th. It doesn't say much or anything of interest but it does give us a new receipt number which should allow us to follow our progress over the coming months. I think this notice is a confirmation that they have been paid as the only notation is: Notice Type: Receipt Notice - Fee Previously Collected. This doesn't mention the ???212()()() so my guess is that my test results came back clean leaving them not a leg to stand on.
