K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSeptember 2013 Filers

Hi.

Question: Have any of your significant others lived in the US previously under a work visa etc for at least 12 months? Mine did many years ago. I am curious if anyone had to also get a US Police Clearance?

not sure about your embassy/consulate but here is a cut and paste from our p4 letter.  Hope it helps.

OBTAIN THE ORIGINAL POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE

Each visa applicant aged 16 years or older must submit a police certificate from every
country where he/she resided for at least 6 months after the age of 16.

Some countries require a specific Police Certificate Request form to properly request and
obtain Police Certificate(s). The Reciprocity by Country page indicates those countries.

Police certificates from certain countries are unavailable.

Present and former residents of the United States do NOT need to obtain any U.S. police
certificates.

For more specific information please visit HTTP://TRAVEL.STATE.GOV/VISA/FEES/FEES_3272.HTML

So probably your best bet is to get a hold of you embassy/consulate and ask them what you need in case they a particular for what they are looking for.

Do they ask u about ur NOA2, because everytime that i called them they asked me for that but i havent received it, dont know if it get lost, or somebody took it and never returned it, so i dont know my notice date, what should i do??

Thew only time they asked me about my NOA2 was on Friday, and that was just to tell me it could take the NVC to get it 4-8 weeks.  All other times they justed wanted to know our USCIS receit number.  Expect this last time I had to give them names and birthdates, that when they told me they had it, but hadnt shipped out and gave me the case number.

Today marks 4 week since my NOA2 approval from CSC, so I decided to call the DOS and check in.  I was shocked to get the CASE NUMBER from the DOS.  I then called the NVC and also received my Invoice ID Number and Beneficiary ID number.  The NVC was a bit more helpful at this stage with information.  I was also told that my application had shipped to London today.

The CEAC tracking says "In transit".  Can anyone tell me how I will know the embassy has the case, and when can we submit the DS 160?

I was just wondering the same thing, when you can file the DS-160.  Our packet still at the NVC but I am hoping things get moving quick.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat are the essential items when going through port of entry on a K-1?

I think that's is all you need, but the time frame maybe tight, I had about that much time for connecting flight coming back from a visit with my fiancee and I sailed right thru immigration since I am a us citizen, and had about 30 minutes to spare to boarding time.  Keep in mind that immigration was not very busy at the time i went thru, and that it was also going thru in Toronto.  With the k1 you got extra stuff you gotta go thru, and if they are busy when you go it might be a problem,

To my knowledge this is a a fee k1 visa does not have to pay, I belive its for regular immigrate visas.  Other with more expiernce here can confimr or deny this.  And, I also belive once you go to AOS and go to get your green card is when you would have to pay thins fee.

Kinda got me worried too. They got my packet on 9-5-2013, got the NOA1 of 9-9-2013.  I put in a clear plasitic ziplock bag attached to blank paper 6 5x7 printed from digtal photos we took on my trip to see my finacee. I just kinda hoping this was fluke. If you resummbitt might be helpful to try a couple of the different formats people have been talking about here, that way they can pick and choose which they want then let us know what they take.  Hopefully it will make more sense with some time and more correspondence.

CanadaMontreal Interview Dates

January / February dates just opened up for K1/K2 in Montreal! dancin5hr.gif

MissSarahFemaleCanada2014-01-13 14:28:00
CanadaK-1 Visa Approval

Don't be nervous! I had my interview this morning, I'll post my review below. I was more nervous at home before heading out for the interview - I woke up at 2:30 a.m. and couldn't get back to sleep! Once I arrived at the Consulate I wasn't nervous anymore. :)

---------------------------------------------------------

Since I live in Montreal it didn't take too long for me to arrive at the Consulate. I arrived at 7:20 a.m.; I was the only one there. About 10 minutes later a couple more people showed up, and once they opened the doors more people were waiting in line to get in. We were called in one by one to enter the building where a woman asked for my passport and Appointment Confirmation. I then went through security - no issues except the guy sitting behind the monitor mentioned that there was a CD in my tote bag, I told the guard where it was and he saw it was part of the medical exam and that it was in a sealed envelope, so he let me through. (They did let some people through with phones, there were little cubby-holes behind the screening area where you could leave them, but it's much quicker to leave your phone at home so you don't have to deal with that.)

I went downstairs and sat in the first seat by the elevator, then people started to come down one by one. At 8:00 a.m. the guard came down, removed the barricade from in front of the elevator and told us to press 19 when we got in and it would take us up. I walked in, stood at the back facing the back, one other lady did this but everyone else just kind of shuffled in. Once we arrived on the 19th floor, people pushed me out of the way (thanks people!) so they could be the first to the counter. In spite of this I was given number A2. Most of the people there were for non-immigrant Visas it seemed, so it didn't affect me too much that these people were rude.

I waited about 10 minutes or so and the lady (Valerie - super nice and friendly!) called me to hand over the required documents. She asked for my address and phone number, Russ' address and phone number, then started to tell me which documents she needed. Then fingerprints were taken and I was told to sit down. Just as I sat down, she called me back up to the window - she had forgotten to give me a paper to read about domestic abuse. I walked back to the waiting area and she called me back again. When I got to the window she was laughing, and she said, "I swear I had my coffee this morning!" I laughed and said, "It's okay, it's Wednesday, Wednesdays are always like this!" She forgot to take the I-134 and supporting documentation from me. After I passed it to her she said, "I promise the next time someone calls you it'll be for the interview!"

I waited about 25 minutes or so, then my number was called. The guy seemed really nice. We went through the formalities, then the interview got a little more intense. He asked me how Russ and I had met, I told him it was online in a video game, he said, "WoW?" I said, "No, Final Fantasy." He said, "14?" I said, "No, 11." He said, "Really? Do people actually still play that game?" I laughed, nodded and smiled and he laughed along with me. He then asked me what Russ does for a living - I told him the company he works for, and his title at the company. He wasn't satisfied with my answer - he explained that it's a huge conglomerate and asked me to explain a little more - which office he worked at, and the exact role he performs at his job. Then we went through our timeline of how we met, initial contact, the visit Russ made up here to Montreal to visit with me, but the guy wasn't too happy that we had only met once. I had to explain to him that we couldn't get the time off work to be able to visit each other after that. He asked me why I wasn't able to take the time to visit, I explained that I had taken one week off in June to visit my family in Ontario, and then the other week I had off work was when Russ came to visit me. He asked me what I did for a living, I told him I was unemployed (I was laid-off due to shortage of work in December 2013) - then he asked me when Russ proposed to me, it was in August when he came to visit me. After that he explained that I needed to convince him that this was a real relationship, not just something that was arranged, so I talked about how we talk on Skype every day, and the days we don't talk, we send each other messages on Facebook. I told him I had the call logs from Skype with messages and duration of the calls, he looked through the glass and saw my whole binder of evidence. I asked him if he wanted to see it, but he said that it wasn't necessary. Then he asked me what kind of wedding we were going to have - I told him it would be at the courthouse, that I didn't fancy a big wedding. He asked me who would be attending - I told him that Russ' daughter would be there. He asked me about my family, I told him that they wouldn't be in attendance, then he asked me why. I told him that most of my family don't have passports, some of my family don't have the financial means to travel, and the one person who would even be able to consider coming would be one of my brothers but he has a young family and just started a new job two weeks ago so he wouldn't be able to get the time off work.

After all of that, he told me that he was going to approve my Visa, gave me the welcome letter, explained that at the PoE I should expect it to take 2-3 hours for the worst case scenario, and that my passport and Visa should be ready within two weeks. He wished me the best of luck with my new life and that was the end of the interview.

In spite of the guy being a bit skeptical, he wasn't a jerk about it - he was very polite and explained to me why I needed to explain everything to him. People are right when they say the interview is the easiest part, even when they grill you a little bit about your situation. It was a great experience!

On January 9th, 2014 when I scheduled my interview, I had a date of April 22nd. Less than a week later I checked to see if there were any earlier dates - a couple opened up at the end of January, and a lot opened up for February. I suggest to check every day if you can to see if any more dates have opened up.

CanadaShould I Purchase Travel Insurance?

Hello everyone!

I'll be beginning my journey to the US on my recently approved K-1 Visa during the first week of March.

Has anyone else purchased some sort of travel insurance to get them through until they are married and added to the USCs insurance?

Thanks in advance!

CanadaMedisys Montreal medical review

I had my medical exam this morning at Medisys Montreal. My appointment was for 8:00 a.m.; I arrived there 5 minutes early. I handed the receptionist my passport, three photos, and a copy of my P4 letter. I was given two forms to fill out, fairly straight forward. After handing in the forms I waited about five minutes, then a nurse called my name. I went into a room where she took my height, weight, checked my vision with and without glasses, took my blood pressure and took one vial of blood for the syphilis test. We went over my vaccination record from childhood and the only extra shot I needed to get was the flu shot. After that I went back out into the waiting room, waited about five minutes, then the doctor called me in. He looked over the forms i had filled out, asked me about one of the medications that I take (he asked me what it was for and how it worked, he was probably testing me to see if I understood my condition and the medication). I changed into a robe (waist-up strip only, bra left on) and he checked my blood pressure, eyes, ears, throat, heartbeat and breathing. Then I had to lay on the bed and he felt around my stomach, that was it. I got dressed and went back out into the waiting room. Another five minutes went by and another nurse called my name for the x-ray. I changed into a robe again, had one x-ray taken from the back, and another one from the side. I got dressed, was asked to give a slip of paper to the receptionist, then waited a couple of minutes before they called me up for payment. Total cost was $315.32 (the flu shot was an extra $25.00). I was in and out of there in about an hour - very fast! The staff were quite pleasant, even the first nurse apologized a couple of times because her English wasn't very good, she asked me to speak slowly so she could understand what I was saying. Very professional, not as bad an experience as I thought it was going to be.

Awesome! We'll have to check it out. There's a Tim Horton's about 40 minutes from here, it's just a little too far to go for just a cup of coffee. We have gone twice though, and it's excellent!

CanadaNeed Money Order in CAD!

Believe it or not, I don't have a credit card. No TD banks in this area either. I called Passport Canada and they will only accept payment in CAD. My SO should be getting a credit card in the mail this week, so we'll be able to take care of the passport fees.

I've got the lost passport form filled out and ready to go as well, I hope the cc comes in this week to avoid having to pay an extra fee! I had a bit of a hard time finding a place where they would do Canadian passport photos, it took a lot of phone calls and running around, but a photographer in Cincinnati was able to do it for me at a very reasonable price.

Thanks to everyone for the help! I think in 10 years when it comes time to renew my passport I'll get my mom to send me a money order from Canada!

CanadaNeed Money Order in CAD!

Hello everyone!

I managed to lose my passport shortly after entering the US (somewhere between the border and my destination). I reported it lost etc., but now I have to apply for a new passport, and here is the problem: I can't seem to find a bank that will do a draft or money order in Canadian funds. Passport Canada will not accept any money order (postal or bank) or bank draft in US funds.

Has any Canadian in the US faced this issue? Can anyone advise where I can get a money order in Canadian funds?

Thanks in advance!

CanadaPassport Renewal Question

If you decide to do it from the US, you might have a difficult time finding a place that will do Canadian passport photos. I lost my passport only two days after entering on my K-1 Visa, so I had to apply for a new passport from the US - it does cost more ($100), and I spent 3 days trying to find a place that would do Canadian photos. Walmart and Walgreens were no help, even AAA couldn't tell me where to get them done in my area. Also payment for the passport fee was a headache, also had to call around to find a place that would do a money order or bank draft in Canadian funds (found out later that you can order them online, but we were in a bit of a time crunch and couldn't wait for something like that to come in the mail). It's probably best to renew during a visit if possible, less headaches. :)

CanadaPhotographs for Canadian documents while in the USA

Here in Northern KY, Walgreens and Walmart were useless for Canadian-style passport photos. We called around and found a photographer who did them for us. She charged us the same as US passport photos, so it didn't cost a lot and I was in & out of there in less than 10 minutes. I think most small, independent photographers will do them for you. Just make sure to have the spec sheet with you just in case!
