K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWe got our interview date!

I'm so excited.... We hadn't heard from the Consulate after our papers left the NVC. I was talking on the phone from work to Sam and my cell phone rang. Hey, maybe its the consulate ha ha. And it was! Our interview is May 5. He arrives May 2 for a two week visit here in beautiful Vancouver then we'll fly back together. Hopefully! Its funny how the time seems short in retrospect....

Good luck to everyone waiting to be reunited with their loved ones.

CONGRATS !!

Hope you don't mind answering a few questions for me ... I am also going through Vancouver and have a NOA2 date close to yours ...

How did the consulate get your cell number ?? We are still waiting for our petition to leave the NVC ... When I checked on the NVC automated system tonight it still says we are still not in the system ....

Should I be booking my medical yet or do I have to wait for the number from NVC ??

The NVC automated system also said we were not in the system yet. Sam called and spoke to someone there at the NVC and they said our petition had just left - they also gave him our "VAC" number which is the case number you need for your medical.

You can book the medical anytime but you DEFINITELY need the VAC number on the day of the medical. I heard you had to wait two weeks for the medical so I booked it before we knew the VAC number, took a chance...and it worked out.

The consulate had my cell number because about a week after the NVC told us our petition was on the way to the consulate I sent the consulate an email saying 'our petition is on the way, it should be there by now actually, here is my address to confirm and some more contact numbers for me, I respectfully ask that you check on my petition, have you received it yet? etc.' They emailed me back saying we mailed it two days ago, but here is an email attachment with all your info. Super! I had everything ready so I faxed my DS230 back and my checklist. They called me two days later checking that I had all the police certs I needed (I had to get from 4 different countries) and gave me an interview date. We wanted it in two weeks but the earliest was 4 weeks later. Great service from the Vancouver consulate....

Feel free to ask any questions, everyone is so helpful and I'm happy to help too.

Good luck, keep checking at the NVC, I'm sure they don't update their automated system that often.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresquestion on g-325A where we fill out residence for 5 years
I had to add attachments to mine also, I wrote:

Please see attached "Supplement to G-325A Question #?" on the form and then titled the attachment "Supplement to G-325A Question #?" and rewrote the question then put the answers, setting it up exactly as on the form.

A bit fussy maybe but why not make it as clear and precise as possible. I also put ALL of the info on the supplement, so they could see the entire answer on one sheet rather than flipping back and forth.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPolice Certificate
You definitely don't need any police certificates from the USA, even if you spent more than 6 months there. They do the security checks on you as part of the process.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPolice Certificate (London)
It doesn't matter which consulate you are going through, everyone is required to submit police records from every country they have lived in for more than 6 months.

And be careful of what you read, in regards to which certificates are obtainable! I read on ***removed*** that police certificates were not available from Thailand. Wrong! They are and it only took about 3 weeks for me to receive mine, from the day I sent my request by mail from Canada.

However Japan took just over two months.

Go here - this is the Vancouver Thai Consulate but the requirements remain the same unless you are currently residing in Thailand.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-230 part1 & required documents

From your timeline it looks like you haven't even gotten your case number from the NVC yet? Much less received Packet 3? When you receive Packet 3 it will tell you what to do. The Vancouver consulate asks that you fax part 1 of the ds230 in right away and then gather the rest of the documents.

Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAny opinions on what we should do?

Based on our experience, it took 104 days to approve our K-1 petition. I am engaged to a Canadian too so in my opinion I would go ahead and file the K-1, and depending on where your petition is sent you might be able to have your July wedding. BUT...have a back up wedding date in mind if you do this. Also, if you get married as planned then you will have to file a K-3 which from what I understand takes far longer to process. Boiler's idea was a good one as an alternative. Either way, you are in for some wait time. Your fiancé can stay with you as long as s/he goes home for the interview. Best of luck with whatever you decide. :)

It is possible depending on the service center you are going through.

I agree with these posts. It is certainly possible if you are going through a fast service center (forget it if you're going through California) and if you are also able to go through the consulate in Vancouver, it is faster than Montreal. You could try, but have a back up in case the unforseen happens.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWe got approved!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had our interview yesterday and got approved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sam came up on the 2nd and we have plane tickets to go back together on the 16th - I can't believe it!

I get to go back home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review of interview to follow - there wasn't much to it, we left with pretty much the same huge stack of papers we hauled in.

Thanks for all the support and best wishes to everyone. Five months of waiting seems like less now that it is over! :) Its worth it - doing it the right way.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTaxes
Hello Everyone...
I need some info.. I just received my NOA2 and now Im trying to get myself ready for the next step and I was reading over some info and it was asking for my last 3 years of my tax returns. But the only problem is that I only worked 3mths in the year of 2009 and I didnt make enough money so I didnt file my taxes.

Do anyone know if my 1099 would work in the place of my taxes? I didnt receive a W2 because I was working on contract. Can someone please let me know if you have any information on this topic.
Thanks
