K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVSC NOA2
If you have not contacted your congressman yet, do it! At this point they can help you get the ball rolling. They got me my NOA2 approval, basically. Even if you didn't vote or anything, contact them! This is what our tax money pays them to do for us. Tell them your case number, how long its been, and what the current processing time is. they will call and get an answer for you. Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan't believe we did this...
So in our incredible excitment about finding out that our case was received by the embassy... we emailed forms DS2100 and DS 230 IMMEDIATELY...without double checking them. :bonk: We left out his parents birthdays and I spelled his dad's middle name Franciso instead of Francisco.

Is this a big deal? Should I do anything? It says not to send mutliple copies or it could delay processing but it also says forms missing information will delay processing...

Anyone else made a silly mistake like this? Advice, anyone?? :help:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresINTERVIEW QUESTIONS!?!?

Sorry to hi-jack your thread :D so you sent packet 3 without receiving it?

"Arrives at BOG consulate: 4-27-11
Package 3 forms sent: 4-27-11"

Yeah!! Why wait? As soon as you find out they have your case, send the forms! You can download them here http://bogota.usemba...pt-package.html (Instruction Packet) We got the actual packet 3 in the mail a week later.

The sooner the better...you want to get it in before the 15th of the month if possible to get a sooner interview date.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresINTERVIEW QUESTIONS!?!?

Daniel and Laura -

I've read all the reviews and it seems to be: Family (who are her family members, who are yours); How many times have you been, what are the dates, what did you do; What is your job, job title, Company; How did you meet.

Those seem to be the heavy hitters so I'd concentrate on those. After that, just make sure you know: favorite books, movies, TV shows, future plans, kids, religion, favorite color, those sort of basics.

And at the end of the day, if they ask a question you don't know, just be honest and say it. I've read that it's far better than lying, getting it wrong, and looking worse off.

May I ask what the wait period was for your interview? I'm wondering if it's a couple weeks or months, I've sadly heard both...

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR INTERVIEW!!! I'm sure you'll do great and it'll go smoothly!! Please let me know what questions they asked you when you're done. Ours should be at the end of July if all goes to plan :innocent:

Well we sent in our Package 3 forms 4/27 and were assigned the interview for 6/16. But I have a friend on here who sent their forms the exact same day and got an interview for 6/10. So it would appear the interview is assigned a little over a month from when they receive your case.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresINTERVIEW QUESTIONS!?!?
Hello all!
Our interview is coming up June 16th :D so we have been reading the reviews to get an idea about the questions they ask, but mostly everyone only talks about "the experience". I've heard normal things and crazy things like...'what color is her toothbrush?' :wow: seriously!?!? Anyone who has been through interview already have some actual examples of questions they were asked? Are the questions really ones a normal couple would know...cuz, I really don't know my man's toothbrush color. Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresits almost INTERVIEW time!!!
Ok so we just about have all of our paperwork in order but I have 3 questions...

1.) Past refusal of entry to united states... does this include denied tourist visas? if so, how do we get documentation for that?

2.) Military service record... my guy has a military ID card but never really served because he paid to go to university instead, so is that card sufficient?

3.) Record of leaving and coming back from the country... my guy has never been outside of the country. I heard we still need to provide documentation for not having left the country?

If you know the answers to these questions, please, lay them on me!
Gracias

The form DS-156 that we filled out on the embassy website has an expiration date of 5-31-2011. Can we still use it? Is there a new one we are supposed to use? If so, how do we get that?? Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInfopass appointment
oh my goodness I'm really sorry! I remember crying so many times. I started calling and contacting my congressman at 5 months and was told I had to wait until a month outside processing times. At 6 months we finally got the approval. I'm pretty sure that the congress person is what pushed things through for us. the vermont center was completely incompetent...the day I found out about the approval, the first tier customer service at the vermont center told me I'd have to wait an additional 30 days for a response, even though the congress person said I had already been approved. They transferred me to a "second tier" customer service person who said "oh yeah, you were approved 2 days ago, you should get the NOA2 in the mail really soon." I was like, seriously?!?!? I don't know what is wrong with these people. I noticed you said your congress person was useless...it might be that your case was given to a useless congressional aide. try the again... this is their job to help us, especially if they want to get reelected! Good luck with everything!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresi29f finace visa its been 3 months!! help!!
Once you are "one month past processing time" THEN you can actually do something. The service centers won't lift a finger until then. If it lists processing time for K-1 as 5 months, you'll have to wait till its been 6 months, then you contact congressmen and try to get the ball rolling.

The wait sucks and I cried every time I talked to the USCIS people. When I first started, I was thinking the process would take 5 months OVERALL and was stressing out at 3 months too. Then I found this site and realized how long the wait would actually be. Just be patient and use your time to research your next steps instead of stressing.

You can do it!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 administrative processing delay at six months
Have you been in communication with your specific congressman and both senators? Get as many people involved as you can. You story is scaring me a little because we hit the 6 month mark tomorrow and were told by our congress people that we would have a decision by April 13th... so we find out tomorrow. I know I will cry my eyes out too if I get the response you did. I can tell you right now though, if that happens, I will be on the phone with so many people trying to get a real reason or an approval out of VSC. If you can get your parents and/or family to call and write letters to congressmen as well, that might help. Hang in there, do as much research and calling as you possibly can and remember that in the end, it will be worth the struggle and you can appreciate your relationship all the more. Good luck.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresRemove Conditional Residence or Apply for Citizenship
Hello Frieds,

I am a US citizen and got married in June 2007 in India and my wife came to US on CR-1 visa in June 2008. Its now time to apply for removing her conditional residence on her green card and somebody told us that we could apply for her naturalization instead. I have checked the eleigibility requirements for naturalization of spouce of a US citizen and all rules say that my wife needs to have continuous residence in US for 3 years preceding application for naturalization. Since my wife has only been in the US for two years yet, i beleive we are not eleigible for applying for her naturalization. But I wanted to check with everyone here to see if I am not missing anything. We would rather apply for her naturalization if we are eligible now so we get done with everything in one go and don't end up paying more fee for her naturalization later. Please advice if there is a loop hole somewhere which makes my wife eleigible for citizenship at this point.

Thanks and Regards,

Avneesh Bajaj

The reason I was asking is because my passport expires next year, so I wanted to make sure that it would be sufficient to send in as a required document.

So did you provide copies of a U.S. passport instead of a birth certificate as one of the required documents?
craze4travelMaleColombia2007-05-07 10:41:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiling Package with copy of passport
That is actually not totally true either... It means when the passport was originally issued it must be valid for a minimum of 5 years. (ie... US passports are valid for 10 years from issuance (if you were over 16 when issued))

If you have a child that is only two years old but has a passport... would that mean they could not be issued a visa? No, as long as the passport has a minimum validity period of 5 years then all is OK. My SO's son just was issued his passport 2 months ago... It is valid for 5 years. No problem.
[/quote]

Well, I see your point and yes I agree with you that U.S. passports are valid for 10 years. The USCIS representative explained to me that if you are providing a copy of your U.S. passport instead of your birth certificate as one of the required documents then they want you to have had the passport for at least 5 years because they look back at the last 5 years. It has nothing to do with how much time is left on your passport. I'm not trying to argue the point, but I will definitely believe what a USCIS representative tells me versus trusting what somebody posted in a forum. If you disagree then give them a call and see for yourself!

It means that your passport should still be valid for the next 5 years.

I also want to recommend you check out the Colombian Club threads we have going here on VJ once you file. They are filled with great info you might need throughout your process. ;)

Actually, I just got off the phone with the USCIS, and they told me that it means you need to have had your passport for at least 5 years or longer. It has nothing to do with how long is left before it expires. Thanks a lot for your response and your advice.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiling Package with copy of passport
When filing the package it states that you can send a complete copy of your passport if it has a validity of 5 years. Regarding the term "validity", does this mean that you need to have had your passport for 5 years, or does this mean you need 5 more years left on your passport before it expires?

craze4travel,

I'm saying what I think (what I did). Others have told you what they think. When you're done reading do whatever you think.

You might want to include the USCIS' own General Tips on Assembling Applications for Mailing in your reading material.

craze4travel,

Hole-punched yes, placed in a folder no. USCIS has their own folders that they like to use.

Yodrak

Yodrak,

So, you're saying to hole punch the papers but not to put them in a folder. That sort of defeats the purpose of hole punching them, right? Why not just send the papers in as is and let the USCIS guys do it.... :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport-style photo with I-129F
Regarding the passport-style photo which is to be sent with the I-129F, the instructions specify the following:

"The dimension of the full frontal facial image of you and your fiancé(e) in separate photos should be about one inch from your chin to the top of your hair in 3/4 frontal view."

What exactly do they mean by a 3/4 frontal view? The instructions specify a passport-style photo. To me, the "3/4 front view" sounds different than a normal passport-style photo.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of support info
Hi,

I have been living in Romania with my fiance for the last 11 months and therefore I do not have a job in the US anymore (at least not until I return). I need information regarding what to do to satisfy the Affidavit of Support section of this process. He has been approved and a few days ago we have received the paperwork from the American Embassy from Bucharest. Next step is gathering all the required paperwork and not sure what to so about the I-134. Put zero for my income? Find a co-sponsor?
Thanks for all your help.

what is she just leaves that part blank and after she prints it, write "present" on it with a pen. would that be ok? or would just leaving it blank be ok? since they will see the matching address she previously wrote for her present address.

I would say writing present with a pen would work, perhaps someone else has a suggestion to this, but deffinitely don't leave anything blank. They will consider it incomplete. For other forms as well put none or n/a, but don't leave anything blank.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLagos Consulate Has no Record of Approved Petition
I had a sort of similar case. My case was forwarded to the embassy in Yaounde on January 26. My fiance was actually called and went to pick up his packet. When he got everything together (mid-March, because he had been out of the country), he was given an interview date of April 13. When he got there, he was told there was "no record" of him in the system. To make a long story short, I was told to call the NVC too, but they also told me that they embassy needed to notify them. The official story that I got was that there was a problem with the satellites and transmission of information. Whatever. The real trick is to get in contact with your senator or representative's office. My congressman's office was super helpful, plus I think my fiance then got a note in the file that they were following his case--couldn't have hurt this morning when his visa was approved :) Keep records of EVERYTHING--every phone call, email, anything. And keep on it. Call and email everyday if you have to, because the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Just make sure to be gracious; I found that people at the embassy were much more likely to be helpful when I complemented them on how nice they were. I don't think they would have been as apt to help if I had been a raving lunatic. Feel free to send me a message if you any more questions. Good luck!!
