CanadaI feel completely hopeless

I don't know what to do anymore. I just don't. Of course we postponed the interview b/c my fiance didn't want to saddle me with the burden of debt for his medical bills here in the U.S. (if they would have given him a visa in the first place) But I have been researching immigrating to Canada and I can't even believe how complicated and expensive it is!!!! I just don't know how we would be able to survive if I came there married and applied within. There's just no way :(

Not only that but the stupid doctors there are totally screwing with his life. He was diagnosed a month ago and it could be at LEAST one month before anything is done. They're going to kill him. :( Now I wish he would have done the medical and the visa interview to come here, IF I could have talked him into it. Money means nothing when it comes to someone's life. I just don't know what to do anymore. :crying:

OMG. im really confused. we filed a I-130..approved..then a I-129..approved. then i was sent a affidavit of support fee..sent that in. then my husband was sent a packet ...filled them out and then had his medical..after that i then recieved visa processing fee and then this I-863 to send back to the NVC??? what in the world have we done wrong? we were under the impression that his interview would be next and he taked his affiadvit of support with him?

You should take a look at the NVC flowchart, pinned by Captain Ewok at the top of the NVC forum, below. The flowchart will show you what happens during the I-130 process at the NVC.

It sounds like your husband has received his packet 3 for the K3 interview, and he's gathering the necessary items.

In the meantime your I-130 for CR-1 or IR-1 (depending on how long you've been married, CR-1 is for <2 years, IR-1 is for >2 years) is making its way through the NVC.

Depending on how long it takes (there are ways to speed it up, as noted in Aussie's thread which is also pinned at the top of the NVC forum), your husband might want to wait for the greencard interview at the Embassy, or he might want to return to the UK for that interview after initially entering on the K3 but not adjusting status.

I'm sure someone else will be along soon with more info. ;)

To file the I-129F for K3, you first had to file the I-130 for CR-1. The I-864 package (and other items from the NVC like the $380 fee) is connected to the CR-1, not the K3. You'll have to pay $100 or so for the K3 at the time of the interview.

I think your doctor may be right. My packet 3 states:

"Panel physicians who conduct examinations on behalf of immigrant visa applications are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirement or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive one or more of the listed vaccinations:"

"Only the panel physician can determine which of the listed vaccinations are medically appropriate for you, given your age, history and current medical condition."

They are the biggest and sure shot evidence that you both are married to eachother.

I thought the marriage certificate would be the best form of evidence.

It may vary by consulate, but they didn't list photos or any other extra evidence on the checklist of things to bring to the K-3 interview in packet 3, and I wasn't asked to show anything like that.

I'm from Vancouver and will be moving to TN. My brother suggested renting a UHaul from Blaine, WA, just across the border. I haven't looked into whether there'd be any benefit in doing that, but it might be worth it.

If you live near the border you might want to consider mailing your things through USPS. I took a couple of trips across the border to mail 8 or 10 boxes of books & papers using their Media Mail rate (it's a special rate for books & other media). Each box cost around $12, which was a real bargain! haha, I was there when they arrived and our postman wasn't too impressed! :lol: When they asked at the border what the purpose of my trip was I told them it was to go to the post office to mail some books & papers & other things and to go to the bank. I didn't have any problems either time.

:lol: Those dryer sheets & fabric softeners bother me too. I use "All" or "Bounce" fragrance-free ones. I wish my stepson's mom would stop using the perfumed ones. He has terrible allergies but the solution isn't minimizing the allergens, it's combatting the problem with drugs. :whistle:

I think a business should be able to choose whether or not they allow smoking though. And non-smokers could choose to not go to that establishment.

And workers? It's tough when you hear about non-smoking bar & restaurant staff dying from lung cancer.

I think it's a double standard to protect workers in industrial settings from exposure to carcinogens like asbestos but not to protect service industry workers from second-hand smoke.

Prohibits smoking on patios that have food and beverage service if they're either partially or completely covered by a roof. (A roof includes an awning, tarp, canvas sheeting or other permanent or temporary covering capable of excluding rain or impeding airflow, or both. A stand-alone umbrella covering a single table isn't considered a roof. But if umbrellas are used to serve as a roof, an inspector may view it as such and act accordingly.)


I'm happy about this. I used to like sitting outdoors at restaurants & cafes in BC in spring / summer / fall but can't anymore because it's where the smokers congregate (and I have asthma).

There's still LOTS of smoking in public places in TN, where I'm moving to. It's like they're 10 years behind the times. :mellow:

Yes, it was. They didn't ask me about it though. I got it before I went for a long visit. If you're thinking of doing something like that, it would be worth talking to someone at the bank.

As an aside, I've been on my husband's medical since we got married ('cause I visit quite often and he has extended health benefits) but I'm still on my BC medical too.

:thumbs: My southern family loved the buttertarts I made for Thanksgiving (BTs are quite similar to chess pie ;) ), and I can't live without a huge bottle of 222s (especially with all this immigration stress). :huh:

Another thing I brought for friends was Clamato, for gin Caesars, :dance: but you can buy it in some US grocery stores now. :thumbs:

I dunno about that. Bank of America offered me a 7K limit on my card and I didn't / don't live in the US... They've since upped it. It's an Alaska Airways visa card, not a student card.

I've had Bank of America chequing & savings accounts and a Bank of America Visa card for a couple of years now. (Hadn't and still haven't moved to the US yet, and I was a student when I applied.) I went across the border to Blaine, WA from Vancouver, asked to open an account, and they did it without any problems. They looked at my Royal Bank Visa card and offered something similar, though they said they can't give me a "Platinum" card until I get a SSN.

When I need more $$ in my BoA account, I go to BoA, write myself a $CAN cheque from my Royal Bank account, and that's it. Very straightforward & easy. :thumbs:
