CanadaDivorce and mariage certificate
I didn't read the Vancouver K-3 cheklist carefully, and didn't bring my husband's previous marriage certificate (though we had the divorce agreement). It wasn't a problem for us, but you never know.

I think YuAndDan made his own point where he said "any with immigration intent". As we all know, K1 and K3 do not have immigrant intent, they are nonimmigrant :)

Personally, I think YuandDan posts some very confusing information.

Part II applies to all, the timing is different, some consulates require it returned along with part I, others like Canada want it brought to the interview with other paperwork, they make no distinction as to which visa type, any with immigration intent requires it.

Why put "Part II applies to all... "...and "they make no distinction as to which visa type..." if the only visa you're refering to is IR-1 / CR1, in a thread initiated by someone doing a K-3 through Vancouver?

Just curious where you found that information. I needed Part II for the CR-1 but it definitely wasn't required for K-3.

CanadaWho's going home to Canada for Christmas this year?
We'll be going from Dec 26 to Jan 2. It's so pricey for the three of us to fly from TN to Vancouver, then rent a car and take the ferry to Vancouver Island. I keep thinking I could have a diamond tennis bracelet (the most frivolous expensive item I can think of!) in no time if we didn't have to travel back & forth so much! But it's worth it, for family. :luv:

Canada6 months on B2 staus.
I got pulled into secondary inspection in Toronto and the officer made me figure out all of the dates of my recent visits, then added them up and told me I was only allowed to be in the US for a total of six months in one year.

You should check to make sure you don't need a waiver or something, and if you do, then see if you can get it prepared in advance.

CanadaPOE Dorval-Trudeau airport
I activated my CR-1 at Trudeau. It was painless, but it took a bit longer than the K-3 at Vancouver. (Around 1/2 hr.) We didn't have any problems but my husband and I were appalled by two of the officers' behaviour: they were debating which one of them would inform a woman that her child wouldn't be allowed in, apparently because they thought the child was a crackhead because she was shaking so much. They were mimicking the woman crying. It was really sick.

Thanks, Carla! (F) I've been feeling very isolated at times (though my husband and I are very much in tune on these things), so it's nice to know I'm not alone.

I'm also surprised to hear that the west is conservative too. I've never thought of the political climate in BC as being particularly conservative. At the very least, there's usually room for intelligent discussion.
girl 37FemaleCanada2006-12-14 13:16:00
CanadaPolitics in the US

Frankly, I'd rather be in a place where people are engaged and involved, instead of disinterested or cynical. Democracy works better that way.

Maybe it depends on where you live. In Vancouver, my friends & family and I were always discussing and debating political issues. Here in Tennessee I've found myself in a lot of hot water for discussing lack of gay rights, environmental issues, sharing my opinion of the war, lamenting the lack of maternity / paternity leave, commenting on the incredibly sugary and fatty meals served in my step-child's elementary school cafeteria, etc. I've learned to keep my mouth shut (for now).

There are some interesting differences in many other ways. Religion seems so very intertwined with politics in the US. Something you don't see a whole lot of in Canada.

TOTALLY agree. It's sad and frightening.

Canadaweird topic but: bringing christmas gifts to canada
I wrapped all of our gifts before flying to Vancouver last year and didn't have any problems in Nashville or Vancouver.

The answer is yes. If your husband has a copy of his denial (the sheet with his photo, fingerprint, and the reason for denial), he should take it with him to his interview. (The consular offficer in Vancouver thanked me for bringing it and said it makes their job much easier.)

The Dr in Vancouver told me not to take the x-ray to the K3 interview, just the CR-1 interview. (I used the same results for both.) They didn't ask for it at either. At the interview in Montreal, the lady who checks the documents told me to give it to my new family Dr.

CanadaPossible Policy Change in Montreal

My daughter is a freshman at a Christian college and rather than pursue a path in early childhood education she thinks she's going to go into mission work. Needless to say I responded with a resounding HELL NO YOU'RE NOT. My reasoning is that the world is not a kind place ,it lacks honor and right or wrong I'd rather be wrong with a live child than right with a dead one. I went on to discuss with her the dangers of 3rd world countries etc etc . She responded to my lecture with the following logic.......... " Mom there are a lot of unsafe areas in the US , are you suggesting I don't go anywhere in the US either?" Needless to say I recommended she go back and do her homework if she thought she could even CONSIDER comparing the US to the rest of the world. We couldn't begin to imagine what it's like to exist in some parts of the world. we are definitely lucky to live where we live .....and yeah even Canada ;)

I'm really glad my parents encouraged me to do lots of traveling when I was young. Traveling solo throughout Europe, Egypt, North Africa, East Africa, etc. was extremely educational. You just can't get those kinds of educational experiences from reading books or watching documentaries or listening to lectures.

CanadaPossible Policy Change in Montreal
I'd say don't waste your time or money by having the USC at the interview if you're short on cash or time. I went to my interview in Vancouver alone, and when the consular officer asked if my husband was there (duh... Where would all 6' 5" of him be? Hiding beneath someone's legs??) I told him he was at home in TN... He'd used most of his vacation time visiting me. It wasn't a problem. At Montreal, he was with me but the officer didn't even ask him his name. He sat in a chair by the door while we chatted.

Jersey, can't your husband just review the documents and ask you to clarify the answers if something's unclear?
