QUOTE (MoroccanInTexas @ Sep 28 2009, 05:11 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I did not have to register anything with the consulate or in Morocco. Once there, they tried to play that registration thing with me. I point blank told them, that the new modawana "Law" recognizes marriages performed by a Muslim cleric.
They then tried to make me go to court, to get my marriage certificate validated, and my daughter added to the family book. By the end I got sick of the whole deal and give a power of attorney to my uncle, who only needed the translated Arabic copy of my marriage certificate, plus our birth certificates...
It can be done, but prepare your self for an up hill battle with a bunch of bureaucrats. My sister mother in law has through hopes to get it done.
By the way I did not bother register the marriage, since in the family book it says that my wife is first middle and last name. and also on the page of my little princess...

Good luck everyone

Can I ask where in Maroc you got the family book done? (like what court/department) and did were you both present? So essentially the automatically recognized your marriage just by you showing the certificate here? They just gave you the book, and not really a paper saying "we recognize your marriage" tongue.gif Obviously, if you got the family book, they recognize it. Interesting!!

The problem in my case is that we won't be married yet when he comes. How does the moroccan citizen get his family book, and add his new wife, and get it from morocco....when he's actually in the US...lol. This is my dilemma. happy.gif

The consulate will only accept an islamic marriage, which is fine. But they aren't clear on what to do after that.

If I'm reading correctly, they were married here too and they accepted the certificate from a Mosque in Texas.

Just a word to the wise: the Moroccan consulate changed its rules in February 2009... So if you got your state/islamic marriage certificates in before that, i think they acknowledged your marriage easily. Now, apparently you have to send you documents back to Morocco (or bring them yourself) to have the marriage registered there. MIT, did you have to do this, or did you get it registered before they changed the rules? Or, did you just get lucky? star_smile.gif

Totally agree 100% that it is necessary to register you marriage with the Kingdom of Morocco...not only to avoid further complications when/if you decide to have children, but also so you will can share land/property/business rights with your spouse should you either decide to live in Morocco or if your spouse has assets there.

And money, in a money order (forget how much). We FedExed the stuff there, then they USPS Expressed it back to us after a couple weeks on our dime. QUOTE (Meriem_setif @ Feb 12 2007, 03:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I found this recipe for moroccan bread and I cooked it yesterday. It was pretty good and Hachemi liked it. You can use the dough cycle of your bread machine, which makes it much easier to make.

7/8 cup of warm water (7ounces)
2 1/4 cups of bread flour
3/4 cup of semolina flour
1 tsp of anise seed
1 1/2 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp of sugar
2 tsp of active dry yeast

Place these ingredients into you bread maching in the order that is recommended by the instuctions on your machine.
Select DOUGH cycle and press start.

When the dough cycle is done, take the bread from the machine and punch it down. Divide dough into 2 halves, and shape into balls. Flatten the balls to a 3/4 inch thickness. Place them on a floured baking sheet. Cover with towels and let them rise until double in size. (about 30 mins)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Brush the top of each loaf with olive oil, and sprinkle with sesame seeds (optional)
####### the tops of the loaves all over using a fork.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the loaves are golden and sound hollow when tapped. Best when served warm.

QUOTE (yassmine2878 @ Feb 8 2008, 03:27 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
IME, Maroc doesnt give a rat's patootie about the affidavit of support. However, I overloaded them with evidence of my ability to sponsor my husband and meet/beat the 125% of the poverty line. IMO, if you currently meet/beat the 125% of the poverty line (inlcuding assets like savings), then go at it alone. If you're borderline, go ahead and get a co-sponsor just for a little CYA. Maroc is really good about changing their pickiness without telling people. When Ahmed had his interview, I was only beating the poverty line for the current year. Every year before that I was at or below, but we had no problem. The consulate didnt even look at all my lovely evidence.

Hi,
Thanks everyone for the advice...I'm still undecided, but will probably get the co-sponsor just in case. With savings I'm above poverty-level. But unfortunately because of the nature of my work as a freelancer... there's no way for me to show that I have us covered for 3 years, as per the I-134. I'm confident we will be fine...even better than fine, inchallah. But I don't know how it will look to the DOS officer. whistling.gif

Yasmine, thank you for the Maghrebi insight. Yes, I'm very nervous about the whole Casa thing because it seems there's no real logic to any of it, according to the experiences I've read and heard about.
Maybe I'll get offered another job contract before his interview, and all this will be worrying for no reason??

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTo Sponsor or Co-Sponsor?
Hi all,
Just trying to think of my assets for the Affadavit of Support.
Most of the time I am a freelancer and earn above the poverty limit. Only this past year I've been working and traveling abroad so in 2007 I haven't really made too many $$. Now I have a temporary contract in the US that pays quite well, but ends in the spring and is just shy of 17,500. I'm confident that something else will turn up, and that we'll be fine. But I might not look to wealthy on paper in 2007. I have savings, and such, but for a 3 year commitment (as per the I 134) we might be cutting it close.

Should I start arranging for a co-sponsor even though I will provide evidence of gainful employment for the last few years? It's that this contract is ending in the spring... I'm afraid that will mess me up...?

Thanks for any advice,
hz

For any official documents you might have from your stay or visit in Mexico: job contracts, apartment leases, etc...

Also, for your consulate interview, the officers should speak and read Spanish (I would hope so!!!), so they should understand your e-mails in either case.

Hi Lynn,

Hmmmm... yeah, I think I've always seen it round-trip, just so it looks like the person will not stay or overstay the visa, should the plans change (from the perspective of the immigration officers).

Don't know how it is for Egypt, but often the price of a one-way and round-trip are the same or only a minimal difference. So it might not be too costly to spring for the round-trip, just to be on the safe side for POE purposes?

The visa is valid for six months.

The approved petition is valid for four months.

Either you or your lawyer has confused the two. Your I-129F is a petition, not a visa. Consular officers can and routinely do extend the validity of petitions but the six month validity of the actual visa is firm.
Don't you just love confused lawyers?

Yes, USCIS approves the petition and makes NOA2 letter valid for 4 months, consulate can and usually will extend that.

After visa interview at the consulate, the VISA itself is valid for 6 months after the counselor officer interviews and approves the visa.

Hi All,

i know there was another post about getting married without an SSN in Pennsylvania. i just wanted to see if anyone had any information on getting a marriage license in New York. Would it be okay to do so without an SSN... if we didn't want to wait?

The Identification Requirements are as follows:

QUOTE
We accept eight forms of identification for most of the services we provide. Expired identification is not accepted.

Driver License with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
Non-Driver Identification Card with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
Learner Permit with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
Active United States Military Identification Card
Passport
United States Certificate of Naturalization (good for 10 years after date of issue)
United States Alien Registration Card
United States Employment Authorization Card

When they say passport, is my SO's Moroccan passport okay?
And is the Employment Authorization stamp they issue at the airport okay as well?

Thanks for your insight!!

Thanks for the info and the luck, Sandrila! rose.gif rose.gif We definitely need it!

Medical is coming up.... i'm very nervous........ unsure.gif

Don't waste time being nervous about the medical. that was small potatoes. As long as he is honest about his medical history and doesn't have any of the medical conditions making him ineligible for the visa, easy peezey. Save up your worry for the interview. You'll need all you can get. tongue.gif Espeically if he gets the blonde

Thanks Maggie! good.gif
Yes, you are right, i have moved on from stressing about the medical to stressing about the interview.
Goodness, Lord, please don't let him get the Blonde! unsure.gif
