i'm tellin' Habib when he gets home!

Middle East and North AfricaHow do you enjoy your hubby while you're stressing about everything else you're doing?
Wow... those are all good questions Babyeshell!
if it's any consolation, i was a complete monster when my hubbie first arrived. now it's been a few weeks and i am still stressing out, but we have kinda fallen into a routine... so i'm not as emotional as before. it is A LOT of changes in just a few short weeks... and a lot of emotion over the last year.

hang in there and just rest assured that you are doing your best and that's all you can do. also, like someone else wrote, take time for yourselves... that means no family, no cell phones, just you two, doing something fun/relaxing!

regarding pregnancy:
maybe just wait until your period is supposed to arrive. if you are a day or two late, take an over-the-counter test or see a doctor if you are really worried.

good luck!

Middle East and North AfricaWorried (like always)
Dear Babyeshell,

Sorry to hear about your woes, but i pray you will find a solution fast.
As for jobs, as the director of community outreach for your local mosque, you may be able to apply those talents in other nonprofits in your area. Maybe teaching English part-time? Do in-take some place? Counseling, tutoring...
Take a look on idealist.org... i'm not familiar with Colombus, Ohio, but maybe you will find some work in social services that will satisfy your interests and where you may feel more comfortable.

Also, don't forget to encourage hubbie to keep looking! Target, WallMart, UPS, local warehouses, or grocery stores... i hope you both find something soon, inchallah.

We started on Sept. 1 , but all sources seem to say that Eid is not till Oct. 1.

ISNA has confirmed 10/1. But in Ghana Eid is tomorrow (that was the only country I could find).

Oh no, MartiniOlive, i'm so sorry to hear this! This is terrible and i am feeling sick just reading about it. Please stay strong. Contact all your Representatives and your 2 state Senators. You may find some of them more receptive than others. Just keep calling and asking questions until someone agrees to help you.

Best of luck. You have my prayers! And keep in mind this is not your or your husband's fault, the Casa consulate seems to have a rule book of its own. You can never anticipate how they are going to treat a visa applicant. i'm so sorry...

Middle East and North AfricaTourist Visa?
Hmmmmmmm....
i don't mean to sound like a pessimist, but for a Moroccan to get a tourist visa he/she has to show ties to the country, meaning a strong intention to return. For example, they have to show they have substantial $$ in the bank, a wife/husband and children at home to return to, perhaps even own a home or a business...have a good job. They have to show that they just won't stay on in the US illegally.

The thing is, with your case, they already know he has applied for the CR visa...that he's already married to you. i don't want to sound like a pessimist, but applying for a tourist visa now might just complicate things...

Could you possibly take some time off from work and go visit him and stay with him for a while...? Maybe that might help some of the pain and stress you two are going through?

I went to the Moroccan Consulate in NYC with my civil marriage certificate and they said that in order to register the marriage I needed a Islamic Marriage Certificate from a Mosque. I called the Mosque on 96th street and 3rd avenue and they asked me for a new marriage permit to be able to perform the Islamic Marriage. In NYC, you can marriage the same person more than one time. So, I got a new marriage permit and went to the Mosque to get married. After the marriage, they gave me a Certificate that I took to the Consulate to register the marriage.

I hope that helps.

Yes, thank you, that helps.
But one question: When you say "marriage permit", do you mean, go down to city hall and apply for a whole new license?

(i think i'm going to cry... can't we just be married and that's it?)

QUOTE (MrsAmera @ Oct 12 2008, 01:35 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I think there are two issues going on here. 1) They are already leagally married, but their civil ceremony to satisfy US requirments for marriage will not be recognized by the Moroccan government. so 2) They need to have a ceremony in the mosque, sort of a "religious ceremony" so that the Mooccan government will recogize the marriage.

Yes, that's it...
We were married religiously in Morocco, but never received the proper documents because of issues with my Carte du Sejour and my husband's Carte National, and after a few months of back and forth, i eventually had to return to the US... we were left in limbo, and decided to go the K1 route.

But here's an update:
We went to a different mosque and performed the marriage here in Brooklyn. It was very nice and everyone was very friendly. They did not issue us any documents, however, because they said that we had the civil ceremony first, and that should be enough for the consulate (inchallah). The Imam said, that if we had the Islamic marriage first, then they issue a document...

So that's what i have so far... Will let you know if anything changes... i'm sending in what we have to the consulate... i really hope they approve it, or do what ever they are supposed to do with it...

QUOTE (tnh9479 @ Oct 12 2008, 04:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
As for registration, a lot of that has to do with what your plans are for the future. Mostly it has to do with wanting to live long term in Morocco and / or having inheritance / family law rights.

yes.gif Yes, we are keeping the open the option of living long term in Morocco... so for us, it is quite important the registration...
