good.gif okay i'll just answer myself since we finished the medical exam on March 29th
Traveling by car to Casablanca....if you survive driving a stick shift in this place you are LUCKY ohmy.gif
appointment was at 9, we were little late due to major traffic in the early morning AND not knowing exactly how to get there...street signs please...and asking anyone is like the blind leading the blind, none the less found the place and god knows I fully rely on my husband being it is his territory here...i just go where he tells me tongue.gif
the receptionist was a man and very friendly
laid back atmosphere, nice office
take all your info of course
passport, ID, passport pix, money
expect to be tied up with this appointment like 3 hours
first bloodwork payment for that which they dont tell you (upstairs in same office)
xrays..traveling to another location, nearby (payment required 40 Dirham)
bring back Xray results
vaccinations....travel again around the corner to retrieve and purchase your own vaccinations
when you return you are seen by the doctor finally
lucky for us we were like the 2nd persons there...no line, no major waiting at all, if more busy it would have been an all day affair
we definitely ate beforehand
after all was said and done, cost us near 1000 Dirham including travel expenses
we got the vaccination history on the spot
some vaccinations he could not even receive due to his age and it not being the proper season for it (like flu)
so the form says his record is incomplete
BUT it is incomplete for legitimate reasons as documented by the Dr...her name, oh god! the one that starts with the letter K..lol
get back to you on it
another step closer yes.gif
oh as far as her demeanor...tarik said she was just fine

Hi Sandrila,
Thank you for your post. My fiance has an appointment with this same doctor next month.
Just a quick question: Did your husband pay around 1,000 dirham total, including doctor visit? Or is the doctor visit a separate charge? i just want to give him a rough idea about how much to bring with him.

Thank you so much,
hz

Dear Squeaky,

As far as K1 is concerned, just make sure you divorce is final, and then start the visa application. From USCIS standpoint, the baby won't be considered either way in the issuance of the visa. More troubling is how to prepare for the visa interview considering your possible red flags, but we all have issues we have to prepare for and negotiate when it comes time for the interview w/ the consulate in Morocco.

But for now, one step at a time...

Good luck!

Hi evrybody.
I am under AOS right now but i wanted o post here since ther are many peaple from of North africa who may have had similar problem. i Got an RFE, it asks to send them my birth certificate. i`ve an old original BC valid for 3 months as Moroccans Know. can i just translate it and sent it , or the date will be a problem? i can not get th original one caus my parents liv in the east while i was born in the very north( Tanger). does the the personal bulletin of civil status works instead of the birth certificate? hope some can shed some light. thanks.

i would send it what you have. Birth certificates don't expire here like they do in Morocco, so you should be fine. But make sure to have it translated by a legitimate translator. Also, be sure to keep multiple copies of everything you are sending in.

good luck! good.gif

Middle East and North AfricaSerious question for MENA ladies
i agree with some others posted above. in some situations there is a cultural stigma. even here in the US, if a 45-year-old lady is dating a 27-year-old guy, some people raise their eyebrows.

also, as another mentioned, there is a lot of marriage fraud out there, and unfortunately, if there is a big age difference the CO may consider it a red flag. i don't know if this is endemic to only MENA, or if there are the same red flags in other regions as well...

i don't think it is necessarily a religious issue...

QUOTE (chemaatah @ Apr 27 2009, 10:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
what are women able to do in other places that women cannot do here, in regards to being good muslims? i've felt limited by myself before, but never considered my location to be a factor. living in the us has never interfered with praying, fasting, or fulfilling any other of my religious duties. this is one of the stranger things i've read here in awhile. how exactly is one hindered because of their address?

Yes, sorry... Let me clarify. Certainly an address doesn't dictate one's ability to be pious or not...
i think i was referring more to my own limitations. And that when my husband goes home, i worry he will make comparisons of the more traditional aspects of what is truly Moroccan--things that no matter how hard you try, you just can't replicate exactly--and somehow things here won't measure up...

Yes, i'm interested in reading more about this, too.
My husband came last July. He misses home immensely, but still doesn't have the Morocco-is-better thing. i am encouraging him to take a trip home this summer, but he is reluctant to go back. i won't be able to go with him this time, but i worry that if he doesn't take the opportunity this summer, it will be a long time without seeing his family.

i'm worried though... i'm worried he'll come back and realize that i kinda stink at being a good wife--i mean, i can't do half the stuff the women at home do, in terms of being a good Muslim and cook really yummy food and all that good stuff.

That's exactly what it is - one of the BC/BS - you can buy it in 30 day increments. They do not cover pre-existing conditions however mine is minor and has been under control for years [plus the doc I see to treat it doesn't take insurance anyway].

For a single person, even with a low deductible, it's only $60-ish per month. The coverage is comparable to the insurance I have thru work and will cover emergency situations - which is EXACTLY what I was looking for.

Awesome! Sounds perfect for what you are looking for... good.gif

when living in Morocco, i didn't have health insurance, but that was b/c in Morocco, i could afford to go to the doctor.

i had a lot of health issues when i returned and had to pay out of pocket. it was a tough pill to swallow, but all in all, it was actually cheaper than purchasing private insurance. it is very risky... it stinks that insurance has to be so complicated and expensive here.

good luck!

Yes, i think we are just going to hold on to all the documents we have now, get them translated, and do everything when we travel to Morocco and just bypass the consulate altogether. If anyone has King Mohamed VI's address, please pass it this way so i write a long letter about how the Consulate in NYC is... well... less than efficient. dry.gif

Kamal and I met on a site called Webdate. After several months of talking and talking about getting married I went to Morocco. And while he was out shopping and I was getting henna done, he picked up a gift for my son. He came home walking into the house with a sword in one hand and a little box in the other. He says shaking the sword at me, "Marry me or else". it was probably the most romantic thing that has ever been done for me by any man. And the rest, well thats history.

After three months of long visits to him at his shop in the souk, and basically going on long walks all around Rabat because he kinda didn't know how to date (country boy luv.gif ), he took me to a cafe and said:

"Look, I think we should get married."

i said, "Hmmmm... i don't know..."

and he interrupted (because he was bad at interrupting back then): "Okay, well you take your time. But i know i want to marry you. You just let me know when you are ready. Give me one month advance so i can save money and get everything prepared. But i know that i want to marry you."

and that was all she wrote...

Agreed.
Sometimes, mail can be sketchy in Morocco. If his family lives in a remote village (i.e., the kind of place where there are no street names or numbers on the houses), it may be best to have the package sent c/o a business owned by family or friends. Just an idea...

Just curious, how do deal with your in-laws..especially the siblings? They are the non-confrontational types who talk behind your back and smile in your face. I have tried to address some cultural misunderstandings but they don't seem to get it. They will not talk to me about any of their issues but rather run and tell their husbands and their husband's tell my fiance. It makes no sense to me...especially when ur trying to have a honest conversation about your feelings.

It can be tough sometimes.
