Hang in there. InshaAllah it will over soon.

Inshallah!

I know how these procedural delays and the wait kills you. Insha-Allah it will be fine and the long wait you two have endured patiently will bring it many good news. (Insha-Allah).

I am watching the timeline all those who are going through this because I will be going through these once my wife's K3 gets started.

Thanks Tareq

Hi

I heard that the normal time for renewal/fresh US passport in USA is 120 days now-a-days.

Is this true or false? Your comments?

-Dude

True, But I got mine done in 2 hours as I had a confirmed Itinerary.

Thank you guyz for your support, The reason why I am so angry about this AP is because I went through a year of security clearance myself for a lenthy year when I had my citizenship application filed. I guess there is nothing I can do about it so why feel sorry for myself. Thanks again guys for your kind words

Thank you for all your input on my questions. I know we have a long road ahead us as too how we will be together. We havent decided on how yet. After we get married i guess will we decide then. I first need to go and visit and see if it may be possible for me to live there for awhile. I am not really afraid of getting sick there from food ( I will be careful). I know about all the precautions to take for my health , as you would for any country you visited, including USA. I am just concerned about traveling alone as a woman going to a muslim country. Tariq says everything will be ok so I guess I will just have to trust him.
Thank you again

Don't worry about the trip as you will be fine.

I made reservations to meet my husband to be, at peshawar airport in October. This will be my first time in Pakistan. I am wondering if anybody has been in this airport and if there were any problems that occured? I am alittle nervouse about it becouse this is only my second time that Ive been out of the country. He says I have nothing to worry about.

I advise you first get vacinated against illness in pakistan contact the CDC reguarding what shots you can get. I recommend this because, pakistan is NASTY, the water is not good either. you are bound to get some kind if stomic illness. I will also advise you never to drink the water there. dont even brush your teeth with that water, never use ice. drink only bottled water and bottle drinks. also have your husband to be to taste your food before taking. bring shower gell instead of bar soap because, if the water problem- showe gel gets a better foam vs bar soap, bring wet wipes, and extra lady products. bring something for diareaa, upset tummy.

Ok first of all I wouldn't Call Pakistan "Nasty" as they try to do the best with the resources they have. I lived there as my life and I am I think I am in better health then a lot of people who have drank "Clean" water all their life. That being said I would suggest as a precaution because your immune system is not used to the bacteria that exists in that part of the world please get your vaccinations and when something doesn't LOOK clean then it probably isn't so try to avoid that kind of stuff and don't worry you'll be fine and try to enjoy your trip with your hubby as the Northern parts of Pakistan are one of the most Beautiful landscapes in the world.

Khurram/Oasriz & Anyone else,

I may sound like a broken record, but I am going nuts trying to figure out if I should go or not. Tickets are very expensive (1,650) + other expenses while I am there. Everyone is advising to save my money and vacation time to enjoy with my wife here when she comes to the US. The confusion is that i've seen many women going on AP now. Some had said that it doesn't make a difference if i'm there. I somehow think that me being there will help. AM I allowed in the interview, maybe my case will be stronger????? Not to mention, I really miss my wife too.

At the end of the day it is your choice. I am planning on being there for my wifes interview, as they have sent my wifes K3 to the embassy and I also think my being there will make a difference. I will be in the same boat with expensive tickets, expenses, few vacation days, etc. The way I see it, one way or the other at least I'll have some time to spend with my wife. The way I see it is if you can go, then you should go. Remember its only money, you can always earn more or make adjustments, but everyday without her is a day you will never get back. Like you said... I really miss my wife too.

I understand that everyday spent away from your wife you will never get back and that the reason why I didn't go for the interview will go Inshallah once she has the visa as then we can plan everything together the shopping for the new life you will be starting and prep for everything else plus This will be the her first trip to US and I would rather be at the POE with her and the lonnnng flight. In the end it's your choice but I don't think you being there or not makes any difference to AP/AR

...
In my basic opinion, I think it's already predetermined if your wife will go on AP/AR just from her name ..

Sorry for my ignorance. What is AP/AR? I couldn't figure out this acronym.

Thanks!

AP: Administrative Processing
AR: Administrative Review

I'm filing K3 for my wife and also in the process of getting these forms ready to be sent out to my wife in Karachi. Does anyone know if I should fill out I-864 or I-134 for Affidavit of Support. A friend of of mine whose brother-in-law got interviewed in Islamabad send me a copy of the letter they sent him that letter asks for an I-134 only. I have read that for K3, only I-134 is required but I have read conflicting information from different sources.

If anyone can confirm whether I should fill out I-1864 or I-134, I'd appreciate it.

You will need to fill out I-134 for K3

I received this today ...

------------------------
The visa petition you mentioned in your inquiry has recently been
forwarded to the US Embassy/Consulate General. Please allow 10-15
business days for the Embassy/Consulate General to receive the petition.
------------------------

... looks like my wife's IR-1 case is heading to Islamabad. A couple of related questions ...

What is the next step? Will the embassy call or send a postal mail? Is it sent via a courier service? What documents are needed for IR-1 cases?

She will get Packet 3 in the mail from AMEX Courier Services.

This is what packet 3.5 (CR-1) from the embassy asks for:
1- Ds-230 part 1 and part 2 (remember you sign part 1 but do not sign part 2, you sign it infront of the CO).
2- Orignal copy of Marriage certificate and translated copy (if marriage certificate was in Urdu).
3-Police Certificate.
4-Medical report (no X-rays reports).
5-Death or divorce certificate of previous marriage (this options only apply to Beneficiary).
6- If I-864 is not submitted at NVC, must turn it in with Packet 3.5
7- If I-864 submitted at NVC, then the beneficiary must write a 1 page letter stating that the petitioner has submitted the I-864 at the NVC.
8- 2 pictures.
9- orignal copy of Birth Certificate and translated copy (if orignal was in Urdu).

I emailed the British High Commision in Islamabad and they said she will not need a transit visa, you can also email them at Cons.Islamabad@fco.gov.uk

Their Website also says:
You asked if a national of Pakistan needs a visa to pass through the UK in transit.

Yes, you need a Direct Airside Transit (DAT) visa, unless you hold one of the following:
# a valid visa for entry to Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America and a valid airline ticket for travel via the United Kingdom as part of a journey from another country or territory to the country in respect of which the visa is held;
# a valid visa for entry to Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America and a valid airline ticket for travel via the United Kingdom as part of a journey from the country in respect of which the visa is held to another country or territory;
# a valid airline ticket for travel via the United Kingdom as part of a journey from Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America to another country or territory, provided that the transit passenger does not seek to transit the United Kingdom on a date more than six months from the date on which he last entered Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America with a valid visa for entry to that country;
# a valid USA I-551 Permanent Resident Card issued on or after 21st April 1998;
# a valid Canadian Permanent Resident Card issued on or after 28th June 2002;
# a valid common format Category D visa for entry to an EEA State;
# a valid common format residence permit issued by an EEA State pursuant to Council Regulation (EC) No. 1030/2002;

A valid U.S. immigrant visa packet (form 155A/155B) is a 'valid visa' for DATV exemption purposes.

K3 packet is also called 155A

I know this has been answered before, but I must ask again. My wife's travel agent continues to insist that she'll need a transit visa for the UK.. when her PIA flight will travel from islamabad to chicago and stopover briefly in manchester.

Every website I've checked states if you have a US entrance visa, you don't need a UK transit visa. I've asked her to talk to PIA directly and/or a different travel agent.

Unless, rules have recently changed, could someone confirm that they did not need one traveling through the UK to the US on a K3 visa?

Thank you very much and good luck everyone.

I know you don't need one and Ali's wife just came on K3 without a transit visa.

The only forms needed for CR1 at the embassy that I know of is Completed and signed DS-230 Part 1 and 2 forms and I-864 Affidavit of Support Form along with past 3 year U.S tax returns (or transcripts) and any other financial documents required.

Khurram

Opinion regarding nikah and I-130 needed ....

A lot of people do nikahs in Pakistan and than come back and file for I-130 and at a later date go back and rukhsati happens.

My question is .... technically ... can you file I-130 if the marriage wasn't consummated (which is rukhsati, right)?

I have a cousin that did that and was fine so I think yes you would be fine

Its been more than 10 days since I sent letter to NVC to upgrade my wife's case and I haven't heard anything back. Do they usually take this long? I am starting to get worried now. Does anyone have experience with NVC upgrading a petition? please share your thoughts. Thanks

I thought they took approx 30 days to upgrade a petition but don't know for sure

I had a question for you: I wanted to know if you can tell me what the procedure is for getting in to the islamabad embassy. Because my husband has to be there in august for his interview and he lives in Abu Dhabi so we both have no idea what time he should start arriving at the embassy. Also if you can tell me when the line starts and is there a different line for ppl with interview letter etc? If you can help I would greatly appreciate it. Oh also do u know if your wife took all of her wedding albums or is it ok if we provide them with pictures?

thanks

Copied from a post by Junglee: islamabad has an area called the diplomatic enclave - it is located on the eastern side of the city. basically, its a street that houses all the embassies ...french, american, chinese, uk, etc. the american embassy, by my estimates is the largest, and is also the last one on the street. in the aftermath of 9/11 and the security concerns generated soon afterwards, the entire street has been shut down to public. there used to be a time when you could simply drive up to the embassy of your choice, park in their designated parking area, and walk in. now, times have changed, and the street is barraccaded by police, huge road blocks, fences, gates, gaurds - the works. the ony people allowed in or out are diplomats, and other government officials. visa seekers have to go through hell to get in.

all cr1 visas are scheduled for 8 am. everyone gets the same time. the embassy does interviews for immigrant and non immigrant visas between the hours of 8 am and 1230 pm. they proceed to return passports and immigration packets after 2pm, up until 430 pm.

the beneficiary shows up at the convention center parking lot - located right outside the entrance of the diplomatic enclave. you can reach this area by telling any cab driver that you are headed towards the diplomatic enclave - if you plan on parking or driving into this parking lot - there is a 15 rupee fee.

then you proceed to walk into a dirt area, fenced up, with various lines and booths. the only way to figure out where to go is to ask around like a moron, or watch - or read this post :-)

first and foremost - no bags are allowed in - women can take in purses, but no backpacks, or handbags are allowed - and inadvertantly everyone decides to take a bag with them to house all their documentation. don't - place all your documents in a plastic bag - as that is allowed. if you do take a bag, you u gwill have to leave it there, and pay 15 rupees for them to keep it for the day.

secondly, no cell phones are allowed in either. there is a booth that will hold your cell phone, for a charge of 5 rupees - i left my phone there on three occasions, it is pretty safe.

once you get rid of your bags, and cell phone - and make sure you do this first or you will be turned back later to do so, you move on to get a ticket. going to the us embassy costs 30 rupees per person, roundtrip. you buy a ticket, and typically will have to stand in a line for this. the first bus, as of current, that goes to the us embassy leaves at 730 am. the line starts forming at 6 am.

once you buy the ticekt, you go through a check point where they will search you and your belongings (plastic bag of documents) - beyond this check point are four seperate lines. line 4 is the line for the shuttle going to the us and french embassies. the first three lines go elsewhere.

you wait in this line until the shuttle comes. there is one shuttle that goes to the us embassy -it is a smally coaster, not even a bus. it picks up passengers, goes to the french embassy, then the us, then returns, picks up more. in the morning hours, before lunch, it runs frequently.

once you get on the bus, you arrive across the street from us embassy visa section entrance. here, you form another line - a security gaurd lines you up across the street and lets you cross in small groups. once you cross the street, you go through security again, a quick check of you and your belongings. women should be warned to keep minimal items in their purse - lots of things are confiscated - anything with metal - and will be returned when you are done. also, you have to leave behind any lighters, cigarettes, matches, etc. once you pass this check point, you get into another line waiting to enter the embassy.

they let you in a few at a time, and finally, you get to walk into the embassy - where you are confronted by yet another security check - but here there is a metal detector. its like the metal detectors found at most airports - take off belts, shoes, etc. for desi women especially - try not to wear bengals, and earings, and #######. it's just a nuisance. as you are passing through this last checkpoint, they will collect your appointment letters.

you come through this area and arrive kinda in a outdoorsy, yet covered area, with a few chairs/benches, and a little coffe/tea shop that sells small snacks and drinks.

you walk past that area, open the door, and are inside the waiting room, with 12 windows (window 1 being a room).

please keep in mind that in order to get to this place at 8 am, you should be at the convention centet parking lot around 6-630 am. also, you cannot take food in, so you are forced to snacking on whatever ####### they have in that little store. it will take til atleast 2 pm, if not later before you can leave. there are no phones inside

My wife did take with her our wedding album buth the CO actually said that you only needed to bring 10 pictures not the whole album but smiled so I think as long as you have enough pictures you should be fine

All,

My wife's K3 interview was today and I just wanted to let you know the brief things I found out already.

She was told by the lady she is approved and should get her visa in "a few weeks". The embassy kept all her documents that were on the checklist, including her passport, all the certificates, and all my tax information.

My wife was handed a white paper with some american express locations written on them, plus a pink square sheet of paper that did not state any information clearly.

My wife told me the lady who interviewed her didn't seem to be a good mood from the beginning and asked tons of questions and smiled barely once. Compared to what i've read here, it appears my wife had many more questions to answer. They asked alot about me and how we met in detail. Her interview time was at 8 in the morning and she was already back home by 10:30, so it went much quicker than I thought.

I'm going to talk to her in detail later today and post more information then. I'm glad the interview went well and hopefully this wait/AR will be over soon. The fact that they embassy kept all her info and passport I believe is a good thing.

Thank you all for your help.... and just another hundred more steps or so until the entire visajourney is over.

Sorry Got Side tracked, Congratulations on the Interview buddy!!
Hopefully she will be with you soon, I they guess they treat everyone different as My wife was asked for only a few items off the checklist. I actually was bummed by it as i spent a great deal of time making sure everything was there and was well organized

Great document Khurram. What are you having your wife do during the wait? I believe you started inquiring about additional vacctinations for later. My wife's travel agent again insists she needs a transit visa to go through the UK. I want her to speak directly to a PIA spokesperson as well, as we have all found information to the contrary.

I should get the scan of the documents they gave my wife along with the questions they asked her. Of course, I'll post them here as soon as I get them.

She received two documents. One was a white sheet of paper with the local AMEX information. The other was a small pink square sheet that has 4 digits written on it., no words I'm hoping this is just the token.

Good luck to everyone.

Yup thats the Token, Told my wife to Put in the LOCKER!!! :lol:

You guyz can track your case going to Islamabad by:

Tracking the diplomatic pouches you can see what day you think it left and track but all are just listed by country and does not specifiy the names or types of visas.

http://track.dhl-usa...?nav=TrackByRef

Track by reference number of I-730 and the date you think it mailed. Also, contact NVC and inquire on the status 603-334-0700 and they can tell you if and when the pouch was sent.

Congrats Oasriz, I think you're more than half way there. Your wife's visa is obviously approved, and I think that she will be getting it in a few weeks like many others. From what I saw, It has been 2 weeks from the time of interview. What I don't understand is the "pink slip" comment. If they took everything and said that she will get her visa in a few weeks and gave her
Amex info, that probably means that she is good to go. But then again, i'm not sure if Khurram's wife got the white and pink sheet. I think he said something about 30 to 60 days or even sooner. I guess i'm up next. All these pink slips make me want to go and attend with her.

the guy is From pakistan got interviewed last year and is on AP after that.

I actually want to know that is this situation can be dangerous like it happend to SHON and JAVED.

is there any time limit to meet Spouse? "

There is no time limit as long as there is on going communications between the spouses. I applied for my wife after my 3rd year anniversary as well

My wife wasn't asked for the two passport size photos at the interview, she did have photos pasted on her DS-156. Does anyone know if that's why they needed it or will she be called for them later?

Hello Everyone,

My wife's interview is in June. I will appreciate if anyone can post the whole process of going to the embassy. I heard that the person needs to go to the convention center where buses are boarded, that bus drops at the embassy etc etc. For example, if the interview is at 8:30, what is a safe time to be at the convention center and how big lines are at the embassy, how long does it take to clear all the security and be ready to go the window. Any other related information will be helpful also.

Also, is there any wait (days,months) after the interview in case of CR-1 visa. Because everyone here is going for K-3 except me.

Thanks

Chicago

I will let you know in detail tomorrow as I will talk to my wife tonight as she just came back home

Congrats on the approval Khurram. I'm sorry to hear about the AP. Man, you really deserve to be with her ASAP!!! You've come a long way, and inshallah this will be a record low AP period. Take care, and we'll keep in touch.

Thanks Zeyad

Just talked to my wife and she has been given a pink slip saying "congratulations the CO is satisfied but requires addition admin processing" She said the CO told her congratulations I am very Satisfied and you are approved! Your visa will take 30 to 60 days or even less.
I am very happy but will really celebrate when she has her visa in hand!

Congratulations !!!!!!!!

Hope AP will be over soon.

Thanks

I for one am bummed. I really thought your wife was going to get her visa. I guess whatever is written will come to pass. All I can say is hang in there buddy. Talk to her and keep her spirit up. :crying:

She is so excited that she is out shopping I guess the CO gave her a lot of hope as she is way more excited then me. I guess This is way better then them giving us any objections. Thanks For the support buddy!

Congratulations for a succesful interview. AP for women is usually short and sweet so Goodluck with that!
