Ukrainian? I'm half Russian and grew up on cabbage rolls and stuff like that. I, uh... I don't like that kind of food, actually...
But I do love cabbage and sausage and beets....
:)

in terms of missing foods food from Canada? I don't know yet, I won't know until I get there, to be honest... I won't know until I'm craving something adn realize that its unique to Canada....

Oh wait to your first US health insurance bill to come in, you'll miss Canadian healthcare. :crying:

I've been craving pyrogies and true Ukrainian cabbage rolls lately. Home in one month and I am going to pig out.

oh my god. I'm just watching 16:9, part of the news. It's about people abusing animals and I have to say, people who abuse children or animals are just freaking sick. Most awful I've seen in awhile -- made me really, really upset.

People should go to jail for a very long time if convicted of stuff like that. Those poor dogs and cats and roosters and stuff.

Geezus.

I am having scrambled eggs with pepper and ketchup with a large side order of raw broccoli for breakfast. I know, it sounds odd but I love both those things and well, gotta get the veg in there, right?

I am not usually a juice drinker either but I treated myself to a 6$ bottle of fresh squeezed orange juice. Delicious.

Yeah, just not a fan of excessive anything. I also think the 'demanding of' a ring or jewellery or whatever just makes a person look horribly petty. I like to just live and let live -- if you don't like what your spouse or whomever has to offer, you do not have to agree to stay or whatever.

Anyways... to each his/her own. OH and trailmix? Can I get that coffee to go if you don't mind? I gotta shove off to job #2 now...
have a good Saturday everyone and stay warm -- it's -15 here in Toronto today!

Hmmm... I personally think that the 'spend a month's wages on a ring' thing is totally out of date. Again though? It's unique to each person/couple. Whatever makes you happy, right?

I do think an heirloom is a really nice idea -- such sentimental value!

I LOVE Broken Social Scene and Feist! That's rocking.

My story is not at all 'down on the knees' kind of thing but I'm not that kind of girl. We were in the Bahamas and sitting on the beach just as the sun went down -- we were eating ice cream cones and we decided then that we should get married. Easy-peasy, sweet and nice. Just how I like it.
That trip was a blast. We rented a car and drove our butts all around Grand Bahama island exploring it. We found our own private beach and played in the sun and the sand and the water.

I don't wear a lot of jewellery and I did not want an engagement ring at all.
To me? It was all pretty darn perfect.
:)

Mine proposed to me before a broken social scene show in Toronto.

It wasn't super romantic, but then again neither am I. :P

This was back in the day when Emily Haines and Feist were a part of the band... that makes it cool in my books.

I didn't even want a ring because I don't wear jewelery, and I hate diamonds, so he got me an emerald instead... for many reasons - its my birth stone and anyone who knows me, knows I absolutely LOVE the wizard of oz.

Hey Huggles!~
That is really, really great news! You must be so super excited!!!
Woohooo!
:)
Congratulations!

I have some cool news! At least to me...

So, I think I mentioned in here before Bill and I have been looking at apartments to move into. We've been living at the in laws house since I moved down here in June, so its really time to move on. We are also relocating about an hour south of here so Bill and his parents can start a new business venture. They are opening a second branch to the family business that Bill is going to operate and manage.

But, we came up short in our apartment search. The only 1 we really liked seemed a little expensive for the space and location we were being offered. I won't mention that price, because those of you in bigger cities will be completely jealous and laugh at me

Long story short, we decided to look into purchasing something. I was skeptical since I have no income and a very short credit history, therefore I really couldn't be considered to have my name put on the mortgage and figured that with Bill's credit history and single income we wouldn't prequal for much of anything. Well, we hooked up with a Realtor and a lender that Bill's parents have worked with in the past and actually prequalified for a decent home loan. I'm really shocked actually. It makes me realize why there have been so many issues with foreclosure! In the real world if Bill was living on his own and had just a few more expenses there would be no way he could afford it on his own. We are going to look at places tomorrow! We are in the market for a townhome or condo, just based on the amount of our prequal and a couple other considerations. The housing market in Colorado Springs vs. Denver is like night and day! There is so much in the Springs right now that is really affordable, its pretty fantastic. Pretty exciting but scary at the same time! :)

We're staying away from foreclosures and short sales, no worries there. I don't want to wait months for a conclusion.

What is with Tequila??? it's a mind killer for sure. .

PS

*CRINGE!*

As for tequila, I was partying in my early 20s in Mazatlan when I downed a pitcher of bad margarita and passed out. When I came to, I was in the arms of a cute blond buy who drove me home. I'll leave the rest of the story to your imagination, lol.

But I can say this...after that night of puking, I have never drank margarita again.

I had my first shot of tequila in about 5 years a few months ago at a party and was amazed at how much I liked it. It was a really premium bottle that my girlfriend had for special occasions. No lime or salt or anything.

Mind you? I hate salt on margaritas and such too -- too salty and burnie on my tongue.

Oh and I do have a tequila story and let's just say... it make me do very, very, VERY Stupid things.

Same here. I had a very easy POE at Pearson but as was said, make sure he gives himself TONS of extra time. My flight to the US was at 12.30pm and I got to the airport at 8a.m. I pretty much needed most of that time with security, Secondary and such. Worst case if he makes it through early he gets to sit and have a coffee and read for awhile and revel in the fact that he's on his way to you.

My friend gave me a pedometer yesterday -- today doing all my errands and such, I apparently took 11000 (i rounded up to that as it wasn't exactly that number, but very close to it like 10897) steps! Woohoo! I am a natural born walker and I love it! I have always been curious as to how many steps I take on a normal day of running around. Now I know...

Walking is a very underrated form of keeping one in at least some form of shape!

This is a good thread. I would like to lose about 10lbs of just fat. I plan to start running again once I'm in Maryland -- I used to run daily for about 10k or so and it was awesome but stopped for no good reason. I just want to keep myself more on the lean side and get a lot of cardio. And while not a bad eater, I like to ensure that I'm burning off the food I put in especially since I have a penchant for burgers and pizza and just good food.

I believe in exercise on a daily basis and though I don't run now, or not very often, I cycle and I walk at least an hour or so a day. Without fail. It's not enough for me though, I need more cardio...

Exactly! Why can't I love both? I mean, i can't say I love the USA yet, but I certainly do like it and respect it, you know?

I can love both countries and I will.

I like the whole, "If you love your home country so much, go back" argument too.
Its such a black and white statement
Cant I love both? Or even love my home country, and enjoy living in the USA, and more importantly, enjoy living in the USA with the one I love?

My husband got me a Canadian flag for my birthday -- the plan is to fly it on Canada Day and any other day I see fit. America is a country of immigrants and while it's cool to fit in and respect the way that is America and it's societal norms and memes, I do not see why one can't respect and tout the country from which one came.

Pretty much... see above comments. You NEVER post here anymore and such and then come back out of the blue with a harsh backlash like that -- it was totally shocking and well, douchy. The comment and such.... if you'd sort of kept up your normal rapport (and by normal, I don't mean constant as YES, you are busy but normal as in, these are people i went through a hard process with and befriended a few of them and thus, act with respect regardless of how little I post as well, you're busy and that part is cool.) here and otherwise, it would have been interpreted totally different . it just seemed like you saw this post and decided, here, I'll ####### on you guys.

It's just an interpretation but contextual.

Zoiks...

What part of my comment WASN'T clearly demonstrating my statement as a joke? Did I not add enough smilies?

I guess that's what happens when one gets busy and doesn't post as much. I figured people would remember how I would always make tongue-in-cheek comments like that, but alas. Meh. Oh well.

Why are you being such a complete asshat? Seriously. Wow. I came back and read this and almost choked. I am not usually rude on forums and stuff but you're a bit of a jerk.

As one who believes in complete assimilation into the country/culture you are moving to/choosing to live in, then yeah.

Disgusts me to see people flying Mexican, Canadian, UK, French, etc. flags outside of their homes at all times of the year.

This is the USA, not your home country. If you love your home country so much, go back to it and be a part of it. It's truly that simple.

If I was to make the effort to move to another country and wanted to be there, I'd assimilate the same way.

Now that's not to say you cannot be happy for another country in their founding/independence on certain holidays like Canada Day, but it should never be one of those things that makes you proud/excited/go out of your way to celebrate --- unless you of course do the same for the 4th of July here. ;) but that should be bigger though. :P
