Yay! After 2 years of marriage, I finally receive my interview in Montreal Canada for December 18th 2009. It was a bumpy road, and took a lot to get to this point, a lot of strength and patience, but myself and my husband are finally here. We are currently making arrangements to be at the interview together, gathering our evidence, and working on getting prepared for the medical and costs.

I even already have a job lined up in Florida!

This seems too good to be true, I can only hope and pray that I am accepted, and can finally live with my love in peace without worry.

A big thanks to VJ for answering my barrage of questions and getting me this far, I am only one step away now!

I will keep you all informed on how the interview goes!

Lgg - congrats on the interview! You need 2 passport pictures for the interview. Some people didn't have those passport pictures taken up, I on the other hand did. We also brought current pay stubs (which were asked for).

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMontreal Interview Documents to Bring
Hey guys, I'm interviewing in january too. For my list, everything is marked Accepted and Received. Basically? They have asked me to bring nothing save for my passport.
I am going to bring my interview binder that has an exact duplicate of every bit of paper we've even sent them plus all our proof of bonefide marriage.

I am also thinking of bringing an extra passport picture or two. and the Xpress envelope that they use to mail back my passport and stuff.

Yeah, they've asked me for nothing and so I'm thinking that I'm not going to bother bringing in yet another set of originals when fact, they should be giving us back our originals?
So...

Let's keep each other posted!
Thanks,
LGG

PS. I got two Police certs when I got mine done in July, it was only 6$ more so I'll also have an original of that too. I have a copy of the AOS and the DS230 and a copy of all the tax papers and paystubs and stuff that my husband sent in. Like I said, an exact duplicate of all that they received from us....

Anyone else do the medical yet? I have mine on MOnday and I'm actually really nervous about it.

Uh oh...
for my DS230, in the employment section, they ask for jobs had in the past 10 years. I have my main part time job, for 3 years but I have two jobs that I have had for about 6-8 years that I have at the same time. I work full time and then I have a parttime job and I freelance.

SO, for my job stuff, the ten years is covered but there are 3 'presents' listed. AS I do have three jobs going at the same time.

is this going to be a problem?

Certified by the courts and such, right?

Wow, PH... that's certainly odd... please keep us informed as to how you're doing and how it's progressing and also, explain it to us too so that those of us waiting can either prepare for the same sort of RFE and whatnot...

Im pretty new to this site, we're still getting our paperwork in order but I fully read the posts. All of them.

Can someone please explain why the women in the Philippine section are so rude, most of the time and not all and how come they're all pretty
much married to much older, obese men from the us?

I don't get it. Then I read later posts and find that they're hitting their spouses or cheating or claiming abuse.

Not to get me wrong, i don't think they're all like this and i believe that lots have real love and real marriage but there a lot that don't it seems.

Why do they clog the system? To get to the usa?

Please to explain...

I'm married to an older big guy... am I clogging the system for you?
Oh too bad!! BOO HOO!!! Everybody here waited in line patiently and respectfully minding their manners (of course there are always some trolls making trouble).
My question is why does it make you feel good to bash other nationality? I see anger management looming ahead of you.

As for older men, they are acutally more mature and less likely to post these kinds of complete stupidity. That's why I chose to marry an older guy. As for their "biggie" size bodies... I find them sexy and just right for me, I'm considered heavy by Asian standards... imagine if I pick a thin guy, we'd look like b-b-q... he's going to be the stick and I'm going to be the pork! But I don't have to tell you all that... I'm a scammer by your standards.

Now, to answer your question... they're angry because you singled them out, had you edited your language and did not write "Philippines" specifically...
the Filipinas won't bash you so quickly.

For a newbie, you are quite infuriating.... sure you added "Not to get me wrong, i don't think they're all like this and i believe that lots have real love and real marriage but there a lot that don't it seems." ... that doesn't mean anything after you completely bashed an entire nation's women. That's like saying "XX race is stupid.... with the exception of 1 person", that's just trying to cover your A$$. Get real!

Have a great life... I sincerely hope your wife/fiance won't ever get her head banged somewhere or she'd wake up and see the real insecure person inside you.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresmaiden name in passport
What does the bolded phrase mean, exactly? Who does the annotation, what country is it applicable for? Is it a interview/visa based step? How does it link to the passport?

Thanks a lot, Kaffy... I know, a lot of questions.
Best,
LGG

like I said, they can issue your visa in your married name with an annotation to your maiden name which links it to your passport

Edited to add: I've read a million times that the name for the visa/thus greencard HAS to match the name on the passport so, I'm led to believe that if my passport had my maiden name, all my other documents will as well. not sure if this is Canada specific or what.

Thanks again.

It's a pretty long journey this whole thing and at times, it really, really sucks but if you do all the research and reading you'll be fine. I found what worked for me was to read the Government jargon and such, and then research information here and then come to a conclusion based on all that for myself and what we were doing. it's a lot of stuff to read and it's a long process but really? it's not that difficult if you read everything and follow the instructions and well, have some patience.

I lack that myself but I'm learning and well, as long as you're dedicated to the outcome of this process, you'll be fine. Just research, read and be thorough. That said, we're still waiting, may even have an RFE waiting for us, who knows but... we are lucky that we live close enough that we can visit while this is going on.

Best of luck to you mrsemcee...

smile.gif yes u can. Definitely go for CR1, its an immigrant visa, and the wait time is not much longer than K3 nowadays, and costs less in the long run.

In my case, the day after I arrived we went to the SS office to check if my details is in the computer etc or not (more because my husband was on leave on that day too, and if we wait other time, he wont be) and since it was not we just register me there and then and i got my SS card in the mail about 10days-2 weeks from my arrival. The SS office we went to was not busy at all, so that may be a reason why they dont tell us to go home and wait. You of course can wait a bit (2 weeks) before doing this to give chance for the info to appear in their system.

Good luck on your journey!

thanks so much! that sounds like a good journey you had! biggrin.gif

Same boat with me, I'm the beneficiary, my husband the USC but I have all the details and the patience for the forms. wink.gif
YOu ask all the same questions I was baffled about too!

They know because you file an I-130 and the subsequent items with that... once approved it'll follow the course for the CR-1. In our cover letter for the USCIS, I also stated we were filing an I-130 in order to eventually obtain the CR-1 visa. I figured it wouldn't hurt to be absolutely clear as to what we were doing.

Ask away, this place is great for all questions great or small and all little fears and worries and joys regarding this process. IT's been amazing otherwise I'd have been lost on a few steps. Still not done yet, ourselves so... more questions coming for us too.

Good luck... .

Hey there...

Go for the CR-1, it's cheaper and once all is approved and your husband allowed to cross in, he'll be allowed to work right away as it's a landed immigrant visa. I think for the K3 you have to complete an AOS or something before he'll be eligible to work even. Also, both K3 and CR1 are taking about the same time to process so... save some money and give him the ability to work as soon as he lands.

Just so you know, since you've been married for less than 2 years upon applying, you'll only get a 2 year green card and apply for AOS before that one expires.
Check the guides too, they're very, very handy.

Best of luck...

K-3 can apply for EAD BEFORE they adjust status, and can use the resulting EAD card to work befor AOS. The EAD card can take 90 days or longer to get.

You need to study up a-bit. CR-1 gets a 2 year CONDITIONAL green card id married less than 2 years when the card is issued, if married more than 2 years when green-card is issued teh card will be a 10 year un-conditional card.

A person with a 2 year conditional card is NOT adjusting status when removing conditions, they are Removing conditions, they are LPR before and after removing conditions.

Question for you....

For our I 130, we had to submit the petitioner's divorce decree. I, the beneficiary, haven't been divorced. So, in the filing for the NVC stuff, does he have to send it with the I 864 stuff? It doesn't say anything about it. But for my package as the beneficiary, it says to submit any documents for a divorce which I have had. So... in this stage of the game, do they need HIS divorce decree?

Thanks so much.
LGG

I don't think it's necessary, but I'm not sure since that didn't apply to us. The NVC stage is primarily confirming who you are and your husband's financials. It was needed at the USCIS stage to make sure that your marriage was valid, so that's already been proven. Make sure you have a copy to bring to the interview just in case though.

Again, not positive though so maybe someone else will be able to chime in.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCR-1 process from those who have done it, or are almost there!

PS.

For choice of agent, I would be putting down my husband (the petitioner) as my agent, is this correct?
Thanks a lot...

Just going over all my information to see what I am confused about and what I'm not.

Thanks all...

So, tngirl...
I just got approved and they sent our file from USCIS to NVC yesterday... for all this calling and stuff, can the beneficiary do it? OR will it be petitioner specific like the USCIS was?
And for the forms we need, will the send them hard copy to us or via email? This is the part now where I just started researching again (had awhile back but assumed the USCIS part would take longer) and am now feeling like a fresh noobie all over again.
Thanks man...
and your NVC part went by fast, eh? That's awesome.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresEvidence of a Bonifide Marriage
Hey there...
We sent in airline boarding passes from about 4 or 5 trips.
Photos of our wedding and such maybe about 8, I think...
Bank info showing me as the co-person on his US account
Wedding Certificate of course

And I believe that's about it. I was actually worried for a bit but then I kept reading that having seen each other in the past 2 years, along with a marriage cert. is the best way to go.
Pictures of course too.

Good luck...

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVacinnation Records!
Just a story I thought I'd share with all you in the process. I, for some reason, tweaked onto this today and if I hadn't, may have been screwed come time for our interview.

Vaccination REcords. Make sure that you have them. I didn't.

So I called my old highschool in British Columbia, Canada -- they only keep vaccination records for so long and it's a person's obligation to keep their own records so.... I was S.O.L on that one. So I went for a hike today and after I dropped by a couple of walk-in clinics to see if I could get them to write me a recommendation to get my blood taken for a Titer test. Holy freaking Moly, did I EVER get the run around. I walked to about 8 clinics and finally, I found one that A. Took me and B. Actually did the blood work.

Just a HUGE FYI out there for anyone, I hadn't even thought about my immunization records and for some reason today something tweaked but you all, get off your butt and make sure you can get them or get this blood work done. TITER Test as it also takes 3 weeks for the blood work and the results to come back. We're nowhere close to an interview yet but if we'd been assigned and I hadn't had this, I'd be freaking out.

Just so you all know.
Thanks to all who responded to me and such. You saved my Canadian Bacon.

And for those that don't know, as I previously didn't, a Titer test is a test that's performed on your blood to see what you have been immunized against naturally by having a disease or by being vaccinated against it. This is for people who do not have their immunization records -- which you need for your NVC medical exam.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC forms needed

Hi Trailmix...
IT's what I thought. We're going to bring a copy of the entire package and they'll have all the originals that they requested. If they hadn't requested an original to be sent, I'll bring the original (plus its copy) with me along with a copy of the entire package. I'm going to board the train looking like a law clerk or something. smile.gif

I hope this is correct. And thanks, TM... you're input is always the key for me.
Hope you're well...

LGG.

Hi lgg!

On the letter that NVC sends, with your interview letter, it does say you need to bring another copy of the originals - but, for Montreal, really it's not required - because, as I read it, what they are really saying is that if you sent a 'copy' (as in photocopy) to NVC, the CO will want to see an original.

In fact, you should receive your marriage certificate and your birth certificate back, at the interview (or sometimes they mail it in the expresspost envelope) - the only original they keep is the police certificate.

Ah.
So then you're saying I don't have to bring in the originals of the same stuff I sent then?

If so, that's helpful. And thank you.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC forms needed
do I also need to ensure that I have the same original documents at the interview?

Let's say, for example, they ask me to send my original long form birth certificate and I do, am I then required to bring ANOTHER original to the interview with me? Or is it okay if I just bring photocopies of the items I've already sent and then bring the originals that they've asked me to bring along to the interview with me but not to mail?

While having all the original documents already, I don't have double original copies of a couple of things as frankly? It costs a lot of money to get originals and I thought we'd only need one original copy of each. We do have some double as in our marriage cert and stuff but not all of them. I just got my police clearance and paid the extra money for a double just to be on the safe side but I realize now, that I only have one original long form birth certificate...

Your insight is helpful...

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIV Packet Checklist
AOS? the I-184? Also, is it a MUST to submit the 4 photos of the benficiary? I thought it was just 2 and the other 2 were for the medical exam stuff?
Also do you have to submit copies of the petitioner's passport and birth certificate? is this a requirement or something you just did?
Thanks for the info, let us know, okay?
Best,
LGG

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC Number....
We were approved on June 25th and as of this a.m. NVC says (the recorded message, that is) that they have not received our file yet from USCIS... funny enough? Got an email from the NVC
saying that they'd received this petition and are in the process of entering the information into the system and assigning an NVC number to it.

Some timelines say it took a day for the NVC number and some say 3 weeks...

Just wondering if this is normal and if I just hold on to my raring to go horses?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNational visa center.
Regarding the barcoded cover sheet, my husband and I are sending our package separately (keeping a copy of each to amalgamate for the interview, of course) so I was wondering, is it possible for say me to print off the bar coded sheet that i'll need one he's paid? Can you print off more than one copy or is it a one time deal?

Thanks. I do realize my questions are probably inane and such, but I figure too, if I ask them, others will be asking them too.

I was wanting to request some guidance on what should I be getting put together for the next step? I just received my IV bill to pay the 400 dollars and the 70 dollars to the national visa center. I have done that already. Should I be getting certain forms signed now and ready? Visa journey advise would be greatful. My wife is due in November, i'm trying to be prepared for the next step as fast as I can.

Thank you everyone.

shane

Have a look at this guide: www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/LingChe_NVC_ShortCut

If you paid online you will be able to print off the bar-coded cover sheet once the fees have been noted as "PAID". The you can mail in your completed DS-230 and I-864 packages.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-3032 generated...
Hi Imaisha...

Yeah, when I heard the AVR message yesterday stating our new NVC number, I transferred to an operator and gave her both our email addresses. Hoping that works as well.
You guys are great, btw... it's nice to have people who've gone through all the steps and are willing to help the noobs out.
best,
LGG

Have you given them your e-mail addresses yet? The AVR does take at least a day to update so if they've got your e-mail address you'll probably find out first when it pops up in your inbox.

Hi there, OBX...
Thanks a lot -- with the AVR in place, I'm often reluctant to call a real operator figuring that they'll get sick of hearing from me ! But it seems that this NVC system is set up for us to call and I like that...
I have to tell you, it makes life SO much easier to be able to keep track of the progress of one's case. And so far... I have had no problem getting through to the NVC which is nice.
Thanks a lot...
Good luck in your journey too...

Yes, the AVR will tell you although it is often delayed by a day or so. An operator can tell you for sure. Good luck good.gif

Well hey...
just saw this on the list of automated responses...

DS3032/ AOS Fee Bill Generated:
"...NVC will mail...the beneficiary..." OR "DS3032 and AOS Fee Bill has been generated on________"

So, uh yeah, I assume that that's right? I guess it just seems way too easy that I think, "wait a second, where's the trap??? "

If anyone else wants to input or whatever, let me know. Also, do they send actual hard copies to us?
Thanks all, hope you're all doing really, really well.
Best,
