Canadato become an american citizen or not
Really? Just out of curiosity, why???
I'm sorry, I have a hard time even thinking about hating Canada..
Not being rude, Galateia, just curious.

No. I hate it here and cannot wait to leave.

Hey T.M...

Can you explain that? Do you mean the US or the CDN dollar?
A little economic info would be nice...
Thanks..

Canada2010 Tax thread - For Canada and the U.S.
Hi zyggy!!!!
*waves*
You were SO helpful to me last year, how're you doing?
Hope all is well...
Best,
LGG

THat is absolutely correct. I forgot about that provision of the tax code. and it looks like ufile finally got immigrants and emigrants now. Another good development. But there are still some weaknesses as shown above.

That is ROCKING, Reven, congrats! Glad to hear it and what's funny? I seriously thought about you yesterday and wondered, 'when's Reven getting her interview date..." this is cool...
congrats, lady.
:D

I finally got through...after 40 minutes on hold! Got our interview date: April 27 @ 8:00am!

Woo hoo! Time to make travel plans!

Oh non taken at all, my friend... but yeah, I have two jobs that needed sufficient notice and lots of friends and buddies that I needed/want to spend some time with. Like I said, it's not a bad thing, it's just so odd the clashing of feelings going on right now -- may have been better to have just 'bandaged' it. And by that, I mean a swift, clean ripping off and such to avoid prolonging the pain.

Yeah. No offense AT ALL, my dear Froggie, but I always wondered why you opted to stay an extra few weeks too! Granted, I'm largely friendless and workless here right now, meaning I can make a clean break ASAP...but yeah. I can't wait until the day I get my passport back, because that means I'll be out the door by 6:00 AM the next morning!

Yeah, word on that. Why'd I think that sticking around for almost a whole month would be a good idea? The extra cash'll be nice, I guess. But I am HATING the horrible mass amounts of good-byes and such that are occuring and the complete invasion of my time and space. You all might think otherwise but I'm a pretty insular person -- I need a lot of time to myself and my dance card, so to speak, is stuffed full and I'm feeling slightly panicked.
Just a random complaint. Don't get me wrong. I love my people here and I will miss them but the clashing of emotions of hellos and goodbyes is a little hard on a person's brain.

Yeah...it's pretty tough. I had to wait exactly ten weeks...and was in the same boat as you, given that there was a bunch of people scheduled with NVC completion dates up to a mere ten days before mine! You missed the mass scheduling by about ten days too.

It really looks like they're humming along now though. I doubt you'll have to endure the horrible FIFTEEN weeks that Lgg did.

By the way, not to be a downer at all, but I had really thought the waiting AFTER the interview date was scheduled would be FAR easier than the wait to be scheduled in the first place... But it's not, really. Not for me at least. Waiting is still waiting!

Aha!! That's the hardest part of this process, the not knowing WHEN you can do all the stuff you need to. As soon as we got our interview date I was totally able to start plugging ahead and do things -- I was also motivated to do so.

You will get your date, Lonie and then you'll zip ahead and it'll go by super fast.

Good luck,k? I'm wishing you TONS of good luck and a little more speed in the process...
All the best, lonie...

Congrats to Kuds!!! That's great!!!

And thanks to K&I for the info, I tried calling last week for info and was also told that they'd schedule more next week, but it seemed to be a standard answer to me at the time, so I don't know...starting to get a little nervous..my lease is up this summer and I need to agree or release April 1rst....this is terrible on the nerves, trying to juggle so many things in my life towards moving while doing nothing at the same time!!!

I think I can imagine a little of what lgg was going through!!!!

I am using a letter I recieved from my employer after I told them my husbands interview was monday
they wrote me a letter stating they are aware that I am returning to the U.S. and will be giving me 2 letters of reference instead of the standard one.
The information I recieved from the SC dept of health for my childrens immunizations
Our rental agreement on the home we are going to rent
The ABF quote I got in August and the ABF quote I did yesturday
U-Haul quote (I don't know which one to use yet, we aren't sure)
Proof of u.s. bank account in area near where we are moving
experience letter from our insurance company
I PRAY THAT IS ENOUGH, I dont know what else to use...lol

Oh thanks for that Pauley...
I just remember, my husband (USC) filed married filing jointly and I sent him all my income information -- copies of my T4s and what have you.
I believe I forgot to mention that in the earlier thread. We did get an ITIN number for and he got a significant deduction thus, tax refund for filing this way...
Just an FYI for you all...

For those who were asking about foreign spouse's SSN on income taxes (as I dealt with this last year and ended up with a months-delayed refund because of it), neither an SSN nor an ITIN is needed for your foreign spouse if:

- you file Married Filing Separately AND
- you don't claim them as a dependent.

If they have their own income in Canada, they're not really your dependent anyway. Separate-filers claiming the spouse as a dependent need an ITIN for their foreign spouse, as do those filing jointly (at which point, the IRS would need to know about your spouse's Canadian income).

Hope that helps...

Question for you all...

In my "welcome to the USA" letter, it says that after 5 years I will be eligible to apply for citizenship -- I had thought that as a Spouse of a USC, I would be able to do that after 3 years?

What say you guys?

Love cheval blanc but I want so much to remember the name of this place, it's not Barouf... well, i guess I'll have to search.
I lived on laval from 1994 to 1999, so I guess we weren't neighbors!
:(

Cheval Blanc is Greg's favourite Montreal beer! I lived on Laval too, next to the Carré St-Louis, hmmm, in 1987. Dieu du Ciel, on Laurier close to St-Laurent is my favourite microbrasserie now (but, I don't drink that much beer, so, beer forums may be a better resource than me)

Barouf burnt down, but that is on St-Denis, they did reopen.

The best was when I lived on laval, right off the Carre St. Louis... they got rid of all the drug dealers and it was the perfect location...
My favourite era in the Montreal years!

And the Plateau for the win! And yeah, don't say your address, I don't live there anymore so I'm okay...

There was a micro brasserie I used to go to all the time, it burnt down, corner of Mont Royal and St. Laurent? They had honey beer in the summer, LOVED that place...

not le cheval blanc but.... do you know it?

it's so true...
But oh my dieu! Italian poutine! You know where I used to LOVE to go after the bars... The Green Spot and Fameux Viande fume on St. Denis, I think? There was another one on Mont Royal too!

The Green Spot is in NDG, I think but awesome food!
:D

I used to live on Colonial, and Hotel de Ville and Henri Julien -- all over the Plateau except for a year or two in NDG...

That's how you got your green skin!!!!

Oh! Did not know that!
Such a guy thing, eh?

He'll get it done and you guys'll be good to go!
:)

Called the doctor's office anyway - they won't do the shots without a titer test done. I'm making him go to BC Biomed to get it done tomorrow then he has to go to the doctor's office to get the Adacel done. It really frustrates me that I've been telling him to get this stupid test done for months now and he's just put it off. :|

Edit: The doctor's office won't do an MMR update without a titer test being done anyway.

To save time, I would just have go and have all the shots -- it took me about 3 almost 4 weeks to get my titre results back -- not sure if it's typical. It won't hurt him to have all his shots boostered.

Hope this helps.
Congratulations!
Hope it all goes well.
:D

Regarding the vaccinations:

My hubby has no proof of his. The public health unit would require him to go there, fill out a form, then they'd send it off to see if they have it offsite. Well, we're kinda pressed for time. He only requires MMR, TDap, and Chicken pox (which he had, just need the year for that one). Should I just have him go to the doctor and get the MMR/TDap? He's going to have to have the TDap anyway.

It's gotta be right this time for sure. I would, because i'm a bit of a spaz, call and insist that they send me an email and such.
GOod thing you got your medical done already, right?
At least that's out of the way.

Keep us posted, Americana...
:)

Ok guys I called DOS again this morning and spoke to another lady. She also stated we have our interview Feb 1 and that the letter was indeed mailed January 7th so I am guessing this one is accurate. I will still wait until I have something in hand to actually get real excited ( mind you that is a little hard to do). I did'nt get an email on Friday though, maybe tonight we will see.

I don't know why they let us have our medical before appointment. When we got the letter from the packet with the checklist I called Dr. Seidens office in Toronto asked the person who answered about the medical exam, and she stated as long as we had the letter with the hand written case number on it we were fine. I went ahead and scheduled the medical and she gave us an appointed for 3 weeks later.

I am really glad that we had the medical done though because it would be a little tight to get that before the interview.

I'll keep ya posted.
