Great idea Krikit!

Haven't been around in awhile but looks like Derek will be going for his US citizenship so I guess I am back. Resistance to VJ is futile too, lol.

Wyatt, since your arrow is in my horse's butt, I guess that means we are going to be neighbors. jest.gif

All-time favourites: I cannot pick one. Here is a short-list:

Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
Who didn't read this in high-school? Holden Caulfield remains as one of my favourite literary protagonists.
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
Compelling story woven through the history of a family to uncover the cause of narrator's hermaphroditic affliction.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Classic tale of love between mortal and devil.
The Stranger by Albert Camus
Existential philosophy in prose-form - A funeral, a murder, and death row.
Battle Royale by Koushun Takami
What happens when a class of 42 ninth-graders are forced to kill each other or be killed by a totalitarian government program? This is.
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami
Sweeping work involving a seemingly mundane man, who in the process of looking for his lost cat comes across a myriad of curious characters including a sixteen year-old neighbour girl, a war veteran, an insane politician, and a psychic prostitute.

i LOVE all the books you've put here, too!!! i second every single one of these!

CanadaROC Approved
Hello fellow Canucks!
Hey everyone! Just to let you know, I got my approval letter today. Sent in the RFE 3 weeks ago. What's odd? I was starting to get nervous as the due date for the RFE was coming due. I called them 3 times to see if they could tell me they'd received the RFE package. The could not tell me anything. The last update was from November 2011 when I first sent the ROC. Package. I was freaking as I'd lost my postal notice. I came home abd my husband handed me the letter. I was thrilled when I opened it. Nice timing, eh? I was worried.
So... That's that. Good luck everyone! The RFE wasn't so bad

Good gravy, Wyatt! That is awesome! Can honestly say that I am a wee bit envious of that!
On another note... as of 5pm yesterday, I am officially unemployed! First time since i was 15 years old. I took a couple of leaves of absence to travel a few times, but I always had my job waiting for me. Cannot believe it -- it hasn't even really sunk in yet! Also, if all goes as planned, I will be flying into the US next Friday. Pretty cool.

So now, i guess i'll hang out on the couch, scratch my butt and I dunno... J/K I actually have tons of stuff to do but i do plan on taking it easy today as this is the first saturday in years where I don't have to work nor am i doing something busy in lieu of work.

Hope everyone's well and happy and that your journey's are going well and if you're in the US already, that everything is cranking right along...
best,
LGG

Hi lgg!

Congrats on the house and the new pupper!

Use the Hud. Its what the bank uses to make your mortgage statement anyway and its what gets sent in to the county for taxes etc. Everything is based on it.
I'd send the assessment and statement as well. But you know me, ever since the k1 i've gone overboard with info! lol.

Hello lovely Canucks!

Just popping by to say that we moved, we bought a house and of course, got an RFE regarding my removal of conditions. Not too surprising, really as they need to know that we're still living together/together. Just wondering, which part of our mortgage docs should I send? I was going to copy the big HUD part, it seems to say all we need to say. Plus I was going to send a copy of the new tax assessment for that property as well as a copy of the mortgage statement that we get each month.

What say you oh wise VJers?

Hope everyone is doing well and is happy and such. We also got a dog! Her name is Maddie and she's a mutt, half black lab and half black shepherd -- I love her.

Hi everyone...

It, so far, is so freaking easy! Seriously -- not issue at all. Had my biometrics done on Monday and it took about 10 minutes. No waiting. Seriously -- if you did the CR or fiancee process, this part is a snap.
So far.
Good luck. it's easy.
:D

I have to file to remove conditions in May and am not looking forward to it

Hey all!
Hope you had a good and well holiday and new year! I'm going in for my biometrics next well. All in all? So far? A pretty uneventful process, that's for sure. Hope I didn't just jinx myself saying that.

Had a great holiday -- had some time off work but not it's back to the grind -- I was really enjoying lazing about and reading and hanging out.

Hope you all are well.

Woohoo! Got my biometrics appointment. Thank god it's for the new year as it'd be way too busy these days to go. It's nice that it's moving along buts it's kinda anticlimactic after the whole cr1 thing.
Merry Xmas everyone! And Wyatt, I'm glad your package got delivered, probably just got caught up in holiday mail. :)

Hi huggles!!!
How are you? Nice to see so many familiar faces back here ! Wow! How are things for you? I kind of dropped off here for awhile -- got a job and just got super busy all the time which is not a bad thing.
How long did it take you to get your biometrics appointment letter? I got my NOA1 almost a couple of weeks ago and have not got my appointment yet. Just curious.

Nice to you see and happy holidays!
:)

We sent off our packet in September. Check cashed, NOA received, and biometrics completed. I haven't heard anything since then!

I've been trying to keep it out of my mind. Not much we can do now- it's out of our hands. I didn't include any affidavits, mostly because I didn't want to inconvenience friends and family. If we end up with an RFE, it will be on the list of additional things to send in.

Wyatt- about the address thing, the same thing happened to me. We moved over a year ago, and I did the online address change and the mail in for the I-864, and they sent the notification to the old address. I've heard of that happening before ROC forum. Hopefully everything was recorded correctly.

Nice to see everyone is back! :)

I'm still waiting for my biometrics appointment. I'd really like to just get it over with. They also sent me 2 NOA1's. Not sure what is up with the duplicates as they also sent me a reminder notice twice as well.

I think I'm going to start a new thread but being back here once in awhile and reading what you all are up to makes me curious. How's everyone doing? how'd the adjustment go? What are you doing here in the US that's totally different from what you were doing in Canada? What's the same?
Did you all find work? How did you find that? How do you find the culture here or where you're living?

So many questions. I think I"ll start another thread with Xmas coming up and work and such, it's such a busy time of year.

In regard to all the other comments, I'm totally going to become a US citizen next year ONLY because I can keep my Canadian citizenship as well -- if I had to give that up, there'd be no way I'd do it but having both citizenships is a good thing and opens many doors so... that's my take on it. I'll be honest, I kinda hate the politics and stuff here in the US but I live here and contribute to society so... why shouldn't I be able to take that last step. That being said, my caveat is and always will be, I can be both and I'd never give up my Canadian citizenship -- I am that first and foremost.

:)

Super! It's always a little amusing to see how long the process itself takes, yet how quickly they manage to cash those checks!

I've got pretty much everything together now, including the cover sheet. I can't seem to find the lease from our last apartment, but I've got the affidavits done (one signed, the other getting signed this weekend), tax forms and all the other pertinent stuff. I didn't have much in the way of pictures, and I feel a little sorry for the immigration agent who has to see the picture of my fat, sunburned belly at the Outer Banks this summer. ;)

I've read that the affidavits are lw down on the list of important things. A yeah, Wyatt, joint tax returns I think are key. It just seems so easy compared to the CR1 process. Seriously. 3 pages! A pile of photocopying but still.

Oh. And just to clarify, I CAN be an American and a Canadian citizen, right? Im sure yes but just wanted to ask. :)

And yeah. Great point Beans. If they want more stuff they can have it. We are here already and it's all legit. So easy. I hope. But remember how laborious the CR1 was??

Sorry if I sound all stunted and weird. I'm typing on my phone. :)
lggNot TellingCanada2011-11-20 22:40:00
CanadaFellow Canadian VJers removing Conditions..
Thanks Kathryn! Thanks for saying that as I'm including invoices where I've paid to have work done on the house, like carpet being installed.
I'm feeling kind of okay about it. I included flight itineraries from 3 trips we took. Also, a copy of my recently deceased fathers obituary that lists my husband and I. It's obvious to me that our lives are connected. I hope they think so.

Also... Is it my imagination or is this a cake walk compared to the CR1 stuff??? :)
I am not on the deed for the house nor the mortgage either as we would have to refinance and we have a great rate and it wasn't an issue when I removed conditions. I wrote the reasons why I wasn't in the cover letter but included the bank statement from our joint account from where the mortgage was paid and highlighted that, as well as including copies of work orders and invoices that I signed or paid for concerning work done on the house. Showing how you are also involved in maintaining the property is useful evidence as well that you are both living in the same house and sharing responsibilities for its well-being and maintenance.
Thanks for responding you all and hello, Wyatt! I finished our package today but I'm still about a week early for mailing. I'm not doing any affidavits, I may if we get an RFE. But I have a ton of stuff. I am worried about the fact that we don't own the house together but the vehicles are in both our names. We also keep our finances in separate banks but we live together financially. I'm just glad this'll be done soon. Hope you guys are all well.
