I don't care what anyone says, I love the Keg. Going there tonight for a Xmas dinner with my buddy. Going to have a steak the size of my head, a salad and a glass of wine.

yes I am. It's our xmas dinner outing and she's going home tomorrow for the holidays so it's now or never.

Steak. I love it.

Sprails, your dinner sounds fantastic.

Exactly!!! It's SO much cheaper! I mean, at least when I buy ice cream up here, it's like an investment. Or at least a dividend. It makes me feel like I'm buying stock in Ben & Jerry's.

But when I'm in the States? Nope, that's just pure, unadulterated snackage.

That's one of the scary things about the U.S. Every grocery store I've been in down there has at least TWICE the selection of the ones up here. Honestly, my wife and I have been known to stand there staring at all the flavors for at least five minutes, trying to decide.

They have more brand names too -- Haagen Daas, Ben & Jerry's and Breyers, yes, but also Edy's and others I can't remember.

I swear I'm going to be 300 pounds next year.

Ice cream has and always will be my downfall.

I'm serious. When I've been in full-on eat-healthily-and-work-out mode, I've managed to suppress my yearning for it. But when I'm NOT in that mode, it's all I ever really want. There was once, several years ago, that I ate ice cream for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. No joke! I had four individual pints throughout the day.

Mmm. Ice cream. Now I want some. sad.gif

Wow! You ARE a good wife! :) That sounds like a lot of fun. Good on you and it sounds like you're enjoying it.

I'm becoming such a good homemaker/housewife.

So far this summer I've frozen: yellow beans, turnips, corn, ground cherries, green beans, summer squash, zucchini, eggplant and watermelon. I've also made 2 different types of jam and sour cherry pie.

So far I've canned: homemade sauerkraut, pickled beets, salsa, pickled carrots and peaches. Today I'm canning pickles, marinated roasted red peppers and stewed tomatoes. :D

Do NOT get stuck in it, Nev. For the love of god.
:D
i gotta say, I have a couple of tops/dresses wtih side zips and when they're on, they look beautiful as it really gives a nice fit but they are a real PITA to get into and to zip up and get out of but... they really look lovely on almost all figures.

I know, I was trying to avoid the whole shopping experience, but I think I've learned my lesson, I'm going out this weekend to find a new one.

Ha! You got the refund!!!! GOOD job. God, I love t his story so much -- I laughed so hard when you told me last week. Same thing happended to me once right in the store and I just hung it back up and walked out I can imagine that they were wondering what the hell was going on in my change room with all the sounds of grunting and thrashing and such.

Coolness.
:D

So last week I decide to order this dress online - I have a wedding to go to at the end of the month and wanted something new. So I get it home, and its a zip up dress, and instead of waiting for my husband to perhaps come home and help me with it, I decide that I will try it on myself because I just can't wait! So I try it on, can't reach the zipper to do it up. So I decide take it off, zip it up and then try to put it back on, over my head. Well somehow the dress gets stuck at my shoulders, and my arms are completely stuck in this upright position. I couldn't move, I could just stand there and pathetically shimmy around a bit. My husband wasn't due home for another hour, so waiting for him wasn't going to work. Besides, I don't care how comfortable I am with him... I looked like a freaking moron trying to dive out of a dress that was only at my shoulders. Anyways, I keep trying to twist my out of it, I mean I was standing there in that position, for a good fifteen minutes and I believe my arms were starting to go numb... and I do remember my breaths getting shorter as well... but that could have been the anxiousness of being completely stuck in a dress and not quite knowing what to do. Finally I just twisted hard and I heard the worst possible sound I could have heard: "RIIIIP" yep... ripped that dress right from the zipper.

I was going to just fix it myself, and then I figured I could bring it to a seamstress, but I just said: "Ahh screw it!" and I threw it back into the bag, packaged it up, wrote a complaint: "Dress was ripped when it arrived! Fabric looks cheap!" and hoped that they would just give me a refund and not even suspect that an idiot tried to put it on the wrong way.

Today in my email... a letter from the store: "We're sorry the dress didn't work out for you" yea you can say that again! "Your credit card will be refunded... thank you for shopping with us"

Thats my story. Bye now.

Oh my god! I am doing this right now! well, i'm on a break from the sun at the moment. I mowed the lawn at like 9am and it almost killed me and now I'm weeding the ####### patch at the front of the house. It's hard work and it's like almost 95 here today -- I am wearing black cotton yoga pants and the sweat stains on the front look like I've peed my pants. I don't care. i am covered in grass, dirt and sweat but I'm going to make it look like we're not white trash today!

PS I thought I would do all this in lieu of my run today but I swear I am sweating way more doing this.

Friends you say? What's that about? I kid, I kid... I've made 1 friend since I"ve been here and the lovely her doesn't even live near close to me. But yeah, Rob and Mel, that sounds cool and it's kinda neat that you guys have that sort of flexibility. As the canadian, I'm actually really pleased with where we live -- sleepy little rural bedroom community. I don't know if I could hack living in LA or any other big city -- I was starting to get pretty fed up with Toronto and the big city life there but kudos to you guys for having the cajones to do it -- hope it goes well and the time apart isn't too bad. We're all used to it though, eh?
:)

Ashen, how's the day off to yourself? Are you loving it? must be really super nice to know that the money sitch is getting a little better and that you've got cash about to come in. Must make for a nice relaxing spell.

I got turned down for a job yesterday doing production work for an antique bookstore but it was all the in Baltimore city and I just started to drive and have really (almost) decided that working in Baltimore or D.C. is not really an option for me.

Sam and Ben... good luck on the job search -- I'm going to be getting more on that once my driving stuff is 100% done but so far? My driving is more than it's ever been in my life -- I go out and drive a couple of hours every day and am doing all my own errands and shopping and stuff so, that's a step up for me.
:)

That's probably why I don't like it. The food? Sure, that's nice, but we can't afford to eat out much anyways, and there was variety back home. And I'm sick of Mexican food, and that still seems pretty abundant here. The beach? Sure that's ok, but meh? I'm not a beach-bum. I like it for walking on and being by the ocean and what not, but I'm not the type to lounge on the beach for hours on end. I don't like being in a bathing suit, and I don't surf. We also don't have $ to go out and enjoy many of the things to do around here. We do what we can, but those things are all things that can be done on yearly visits to my husband's parents anyway. Not for sustaining day-to-day living. The EXPENSE of being here is just ridiculous and unjustified. Everyone here has this air of entitlement and are all raising spoiled kids. Yes, that's a generalization, but I don't like it. There aren't really tons of people in the city I live in, but we still get horrible traffic jams due to only two (kinda three, but one is slightly out of town) main arteries for crossing a very rectangularly-shaped town. I like their policy of no high-rise buildings, so it's a different atmosphere than the L.A. metropolis, but still. And don't get me started on the employment thing (or lack thereof). Meh, I say. MEH.

I'll stop complaining now. I might change my mind once paychecks are rolling in. Or if I like.. get some friends.

This typo really gave me my laugh for the day.

My husband has been thinking about a new BBQ (I guess they call them grills here :) ) for Father's Day. So today I get this text from his 21 year old son:

Oh Krikit... that's horrible for your SIL... sorry to have read that.

Oh and Huggles... me too, I was wondering how that was going as I too am getting TONS of calls from insurance places wanting to give me a job. I'm a little scared to do something like that. I'd prefer to stick with production work and Graphic design... but I'd be interested as to how it's going for you.

Welcome back, Minnew!

Huggles! How goes the new job? I put my resume out on careerbuilder and I've been getting emails from insurance companies to come work for them. Any insight or suggestions to offer? I'm thinking it's not something I would do but I'd love to hear from someone who's actually doing it.

Since you're so close to the Grand Canyon (relatively), have you thought about doing that?

On a sad note..... my SIL was leaving a doctor's appt yesterday where he confirmed her first pregnancy when she was broadsided by a nurse coming off the night shift. She lost the baby. :(

Right price and it seems to have the stuff that I'm looking for.
Thanks a lot for your input, very helpful!
:D

I like my Garmin nüvi 1350T, which was about $199 on Amazon when I got it. If you find a nüvi with a T at the end of the model number, it has a built-in, free-for-life traffic receiver built into the power cord, which can help route you around jams and accidents. Other models without the T may be able to get traffic information, but as a monthly subscription service.

Canadacandian police certificate
Hi Trailmix...
Do I need fingerprints? I found a place for RCMP police records that aren't finger print based... you go in, give them your information and they do a canada-wide search and you get a read-out of that. I have no criminal past so, do I need a finger print based police record?

I won't get it done yet, but I'm just wondering in advance.
Thanks a lot guys...

How far in advance can you get the police record? We are still waiting for our NOA2, but I'm wondering if he could go ahead and get this done now, since it doesn't seem to be quick process?

The police certificate is good for a year - the name check version is pretty quick - it's the fingerprint version that takes time. If he has no criminal record and he lives in Canada, the Canada wide name check will suffice.
